The yelp says that there's no sit-down area but there is. They have a nice outdoor space set up for those who are tasting wine. Theyre located in the same lot as the bbq rig which is one of the only places in the area that opens as early as 11am. They have a good selection of whites and reds. Their whites are very crisp and tart. Im more a fan of buttery and oaky. The reds are good. We bought a few bottles but none of the whites. read more

This place has the best pig roast I have ever had. The staff memebers are so nice and they are very helpful. The food that they served was delicious. I really enjoyed the pork because it was chopped and seasoned very well. I also had a wiggles tooth but it was still safe to eat it and my whole plate was gone! Cute tasting room, they have their own parking but we parked on the road. We got their with plenty of time before it closed but that particular day the two people working had some family event so they kinda rushed everyone. The service by the older gentleman was great he was very informative and friendly we sat down outside and notice the girl taking off the seat covers from outside with almost 40 minutes before closing time. We went inside I didn't want to be left outside lol. When we went to her for a pour she talked to us about 100 mph very rushed and kinda killed the experience. We were then told they had something very important and that's why they were closing early. We finished our wine and took home a bottle. The tasting room is nice and they have a restroom inside. My family did a wine tasting here and had a great experience. Our kind servers took the time to answer our (many, many) questions with enthusiasm and great knowledge. We sat on their back patio and it was a lovely atmosphere, tucked away from the main road with comfortable seating and beautiful trees. Wines on the tasting list were delicious and varied. I parked in front of the wine tasting room and ordered from the BBQ truck that shares the same parking lot. I walked into the wine tasting room and asked to use the restroom to wash up after a long drive. The gentleman stated that if I was not going to purchase wine I would not be allowed to use the bathroom. This has become my favorite tasting room in Los Olivos, and we've made it a tradition to kick off all girls' wine tasting trips here so that we can fully appreciate the great wine before getting too "excited." The wine here is some of the best I've tasted in the town. The Escondrijo Blend is my most recent fave, and my best friend is in love with the Barbareno. They have really great whites and roses too; I've brought different friends with different tastes here, who have always left happy. On one visit, they offered us some housemade wine-filled chocolates! The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. I love the large tasting room with the upscale rustic, classy ambiance and good lighting. They are one of the few spots in Los Olivos to have a restroom! The large, shaded patio is very nice and comfortable too; I love the deep patio chairs with built-in wine glass holders. I've spent many a long afternoon here just relaxing. So three weeks after coming up to Los Olivos and visiting the Refugio Ranch tasting room, I made it a point to come back up again. Was it just the delicious wine that brought me back up? My husband and I stopped in Los Olivos for lunch on our way home from Paso Robles. We went for a walk after eating and were drawn in by the charm of Refugio Ranch. I'm no wine expert but similar to art, you know when something is truly great. First and foremost, Refugio Ranch makes damn good wine. Secondly, their taste (pun intended) is spot on. I'm a fan of consistency and Refugio effortlessly delivers. Their packaging captures the aesthetic and philosophy of staying true to the Ranch's roots while embellishing the natural beauty of the vineyard location and love of their family. It's stylishly classic and might be the reason I paid attention in the first place. Wine in hand, I was lucky enough to get a tour of the vineyard on their little off-roader. The view of St. Ynez valley blew me away. The winemaker Ryan passionately explained the unique temperature qualities of that specific pocket of the valley and how it affected the grapes and decisions he made harvesting them. I found the whole experience truly moving. Personally, I think, for the non-wine experts, it's easy to get caught up in the romance of wine tours and everything blends together, but ultimately when the wine you taste is so undeniably good, on top of everything else, I guess you end up writing gushy reviews like this on yelp, not to mention I talk about this wine to everyone everywhere now. Beautiful tasting room, wonderful staff and owners, and bed of all- the wine is the sincerely my favorite wine in all the world!!! I tend to only drink reds, so their 2010 Barbareno is my happy place wine. However, their white wines are delicious too- my finance's favorite is the Inseno. Came here for Wine Tasting while staying in Solvang and let me tell you this place and the staff was wonderful! We spoke with a girl named Bailey, she was so helpful and attentive. This was our first time in Los Olivos and Solvang, and she truly guided us in the proper direction. The wines were excellent as well, I'm not much of a white wine person, however, she sold me on the Sauvignon Blanc!! We will definitely be back anytime we do decide to go back out this way. There were so many wineries on one strip in Los Olivos, it would be impossible to visit all in just a couple of days, but we are very happy to have come to this one!! I'm torn how to rate this place as I've had two very different experiences but I'll go with my most recent. The first time I went here it quickly began our favorite place in Los Olivos, but last week really left a bad taste in my mouth. We were served by a younger blonde with a nose ring, maybe it was because I look like I'm 18 (blessed/cursed Asian thing) but she didn't seem to take me and my BF seriously. She asked us if we were here for wine tasting, pulled out two glasses, named us the wine we were drinking, and walked away. It wasn't until the second pour that we had to ask her to explain the wines to us. The older gentlemen working with her was quite the opposite to the other guests...very engaging and knowledgeable. At one point we wanted to ask him to take over because we were so disappointed that we were getting such a different experience. He also asked his customers if they were going to have their own pours or split a tasting while our server just handed us two glasses. Had this been our first experience ever going wine tasting...I feel like we would have been pretty underwhelmed. It really goes to show how much a difference good service can make. read more

What a great find! First off I would like to give a shout out to Lisa, who was one the most knowledgeable, entertaining and kind persons I have met in a very long time. Her hospitality and generosity are unsurpassed. I already miss her and I will look forward to going to visit this place again very soon. It truly made my trip out there worth it on that alone! During our conversation, I realized that not only did Refugio Ranch's wines stand out on their own as absolutely wonderful, but I could actually understand who the people at this winery are and what they believe in. There is no doubt that their blood, sweat and tears went into making this wine, and that is what really made them exceptional and unforgettable. This place embodies the message of a quote by Simon Sinek, who said: "If you hire people just because they can do a job, they'll work for your money. But if you hire people who believe what you believe, they'll work for you with blood and sweat and tears. [...] People don't buy what you do; people buy why you do it." Finally, on a more technical note, every wine they offered was very good, if not great! I was very particular to the Barbareño, which is a 65% Syrah and 35% Petite Sirah blend. YUM! Be ahead of the wino curve by visiting this new tasting room right near the highway 154 turn off. Chances are it's still a hidden gem, the crowds will be cramming into Carhartt next door but don't you let that bother you - and as a general rule of thumb in winetasting territories, I walk the opposite direction from wherever the wine jeeps are dumping people off anyhow! Refugio Ranch is only pouring 4 wines at the moment (2 whites, a red, and a dessert wine) as their vineyards are still relatively new - but next year they hope to expand their offerings. You will get to try multiple years of each wine, so you can compare and contrast an 09 with the 10 or an 08 with an 09. Our helpful and super friendly tasting room guy Oliver said he loves watching couples argue about which one they like more, and we indeed engaged in this very behavior! The Inesena is definitely a must-sipper, a flavor-packed Roussane/Viognier! I look forward to returning to try more offerings as this winery continues to grow. read more
