A beautiful winery on a cute rustic property with plenty of parking. Employees were very sweet and greyed us upon arrival. Entrance is through the store, and leads directly to the patio area with other picnic tables spread across the outdoors. It has a cute farm truck for photos, you can walk around the grapevines, which is quite stunning. Very tranquil and relaxing place. Our sommelier was very sweet. There wasn't a wine I didn't like. Northern reds/ whites just hit differently so I purchased two bottles as Christmas gifts. Reasonably priced and if you spend $125 they wave a tasting which was $30. Although we were for some small bites she did have a good selection of cheeses, crackers and meat. Food trucks do come on the weekends, however we were here mid week. Buttonwood has a cute outdoor area with views of the vineyards. And horseback rides on the weekends. It's not only 5 minutes outside of the main road in Solvang, I highly recommend and will definitely be back especially for their Merlot! read more

The winery sits right in the street, not set back nor peaceful. Our hostess Ryan was very nice and great at describing the wines. She offered a charcuterie and we accepted. Unfortunately we were nearly done with our tasting before it came out. She said they were prepping burgers so it would be a while. Wish we knew that prior since we were trying to pair with our wine. We cancelled the order and then right after she said it was ready. At that point they should have just given it to us. The wines were all mid. We had a great time at Buttonwood. The location is very accessible if you are close to Solvang. There is a nice, laid back atmosphere where the tasting is and you can see part of the vineyard. Cate was extremely friendly and helped guide us through our tasting. She went above and beyond and let us try one of our favorite varietals- cabernet franc. I used to come to Buttonwood years ago when they were just the small tasting room. We recently went and not only have they have they expanded but it's even more beautiful than before. There's a huge patio with both covered seating and picnic tables under umbrellas. It sits on an orchard and in the distance, I saw games and a great event area. Nikki helped us and was so sweet and knowledgeable about all of their wines, which were tasty and decently priced. They have a cute little gift shop with fun items. I work for a local wine tour company and my guests always love when we make a stop at Buttonwood winery. The setting is charming and inviting, the wine is delicious and Kate in the tasting room makes the experience a 10 out of 10. Kate is knowledgeable (she is a Someliar) without be pretentious and stuffy! The guests always walk away from Buttonwood praising their experience and how enjoyable their tasting was. We did some wine tasting as part of a bachelorette trip. The winery was very cute, unfortunately we had a bit of a wind storm so we couldn't enjoy the outside as much as we hoped. They were very kind and provided blankets and a heat lamp to make our seats outside more comfortable. We enjoyed the red wine flights but didn't find any wines that we fell in love with. However, the homemade cookies were incredible and a nice treat. I would recommend this winery to others but I will probably visit some others in the area on my next trip out before returning at a future date. read more

Loved my experience at buttonwood and truly one of the best Pinot Noirs in the valley that I've tried. Also a really good Rosé. I enjoyed the garden wine tasting experience with friendly service. It is so peaceful there with lots of trees for speckled light. I'd say bring a sweater just incase you happen to be in the shade during your time. We also enjoyed the Chamburgers which are to die for. So so so good. Very rarely so I want to go back to a winery in SYV (I'm the curious type who wants to try them all!) but I will definitely be coming back here next time. read more

She was the most knowledgeable person on wines that we have ever encountered and we've been to many of the major vineyards throughout the world. She was personable and gracious. Super cute winery just a short drive from downtown Solvang. We were greeted by the chickens roaming in the front when we arrived. Ample seating outside where we tasted, seating was picnic tables and benches with tables. They brought the glass and then came out with each wine as we were ready. We were in a slight hurry to get back to town before the shops closed so they helped us speed through the tasting. Chad our tasting room associate was awesome! Super knowledgable about the wines and a fun sense of humor. The wines weren't my favorite, but I ended up getting a bottle of sauv blanc to try to grow my collection of white wines. read more

WOW WOW WOW! What a terrific wine tasting experience. My husband, brother in law and sister in law were treated to a very personal experience by Kate, who made our wine tasting just the best. We tried 6 very enjoyable wines and Kate really gave us a very detailed understanding of how each wine was cultivated. The winery also provides a beautiful enlarged patio area for enjoying picnics with comfortable seating and rustic decor. The gift shop was sweet. I was happy to take home several bottles of the different wines we sampled along with a beautiful scented candle to remind me of this wonderful place. A very dog-friendly winery, our dog Duke was well behaved and enjoyed the garden area. This winery is a winner! Our experience at Buttonwood was one of a kind. We truly felt embraced by an incredibly hospitable, kind, and knowledgable Cate. She modified our tasting to better align with what kinds of wines we know we like and were able to branch out and try some new stuff! The Wine: The wine itself is incredible. We are both service industry workers with a slight knowledge of wine. Cate helped fill in the gaps of our knowledge without overloading us with too much info. She explained tannic vs acidity by showing us wines that differ rather than just telling us the difference, which was a specific part of her service we appreciated! You can really tell the nuances between each bottle we tried; purple reds vs red reds, light body vs full bodied, etc. The Atmosphere: PLUMB adorable. I got some cute videos to make a Tik Tok or post on Instagram or something just because it was so darling. We didn't explore the whole back garden, but I just fell in love with it. Lush trees that provide shade, comfortable seating, pumpkins EVERYWHERE!! It was gorgeous and made the tasting all the more relaxing and memorable. We will ABSOLUTELY be back. This was our anniversary trip and I am SO HAPPY I found this winery to go to. We love learning about spirits, beer, and wine and the way that Cate was so incredibly knowledgable made it so fun. **Reserve a spot online before or you might be turned away. This was a great spot to grab some wine in a cooler area that was covered by trees. You walk up and tell the employee your reservation, and then you walk around the back and grab a table wherever you want. Once you grab a table, someone comes over to serve wine and water. Ask for the Hop On wine (which is hops infused wine), so good! Directly across the street is fresh fruit - mango, cherries, raspberries, strawberries and next to the winery is peaches you can buy. You can also see the peach trees around you while sitting at your table. The 'cheese board' which is just some small cheese in a plastic to go container was $26 which was insane for what you were given. I wouldn't recommend based on how small it was- didn't get a picture though. They do some events as well, check the website for what they offer! There is absolutely NO service out here and the provided wifi is spotty. If you're doing a few spots and need an Uber/Lyft maybe schedule it ahead because it was rough ordering one. read more

Paid $75 a ticket for a music event and was with a group of 5 people. The place is beautiful and the band was great. However the older woman inside serving was so shockingly rude to us and everyone else she encountered that it ruined our visit. I see there are several other reviews referencing this woman so ishe was clearly not just having a bad day. This woman should not be working in customer service especially at a winery. What a shame to encounter this on an otherwise lovely afternoon. . The rest of the staff was lovely. read more
