Going to the movies these days is a lot different. First, you order your tickets in advance and pick where you sit. This is great because you can strategically make sure there's nobody sitting right in front of you. The seating here hasn't been upgraded to the new recliner seats but they were fine. Be prepared for a full half hour of "pre-entertainment". It's not even previews but trivia, little news stories. Completely unneccessary and it's not increasing their snack sales or anything. Luckily we had just had a huge breakfast so we didn't feel the need to get any snacks. They did have a ton of snacks though - rows of impulse items leading up to the snack bar.

I took a day trip to Orange County and wanted to stop by this Regal Edwards in Costa Mesa. So far, this is the 6th Regal location I've visited this year, and compared to the others, it's just average. This Regal in Costa Mesa is located at Metro Pointe just across from South Coast Plaza. If it weren't so super close to the 405 freeway, I wouldn't have known they were on the west side of Metro Pointe. In terms of parking, there was plenty of parking available, including a couple of parking structures west of the movie theater. Most of the open stalls in the main lot were on the southern end, closer to the freeway. I parked in that part of the lot, but it wasn't totally clear where the movie theater was at first. After heading west and going up the stairs, I was fortunate enough to find the entrance after making a left turn. Upon arrival, there was a sign at the ticket booth that directed me to the snack bar to purchase a movie ticket. I had a Premiere Movie Ticket in my hand and showed it to the hostess (Beatriz?), who then directed me to the concessions stand right in front. I had arrived a few minutes after the scheduled showtime of the movie I was planning to watch: I Know What You Did Last Summer. Luckily, there weren't any patrons at the concessions stand, but it took about a minute for an employee, Jonathan, to ring me up. I did have to pay a $1.50 surcharge to watch the movie. I also had to select my seat, which should have been straightforward, except I'm not sure how Jonathan confused the number 12 with a 4? Unfortunately, I had forgotten to scan my QR code at the snack bar, but when the movie previews were running, I made sure to enter my claim code to get the points I deserved for my visit. That same day, I received the credits for my movie ticket purchase, and the following day, I received the extra credits for watching that particular movie during its opening weekend. There were plenty of seats in the auditorium, 15 rows to be exact! However, there was only one other patron who was watching the same movie at the same time. The seats themselves aren't that comfortable, unfortunately, so a remodel of the likes of the location in Long Beach may be imminent. I sat in the very back of the theater, which is generally my personal preference, especially when the seating is stadium seating. However, the very last row wasn't that much higher elevated compared to the second to last row, so I simply sat in that row for a completely unobstructed view of the movie screen. I hate how when you're asked to choose your seat, you don't have any idea of how good or bad of a view you will have just by looking at the 2D seating chart. It would be super helpful if they could add a third dimension so I could have a better idea of what my view would be like before entering the auditorium. Picture and sound were pretty good. Not totally crisp to the point where I actually felt like I was in the movie, but crisp enough for me to stay engaged throughout the movie. However, like I said, the not so comfortable seats were quite a damper to my experience. After the movie ended*, I exited the auditorium, but was surprised to see no Regal employee by the doorway to start cleaning up for the next showing. I suppose since it was only me and one other patron who watched the movie, there was no need to clean the auditorium? I explored the theater a little bit after the movie, and while they did have some movie backdrops for movies that are now playing or upcoming, they didn't nearly have that many. I also noticed there was a rear side to the snack bar, so if there were more employees working that day, they could service more customers in a timely manner. I didn't eat anything during the movie since I had just eaten lunch, but I did notice they offered caramel glazed popcorn! This is one of the smaller Regal Edwards theaters as indicated by the lower number of auditoriums, employees, and even patrons. The restrooms are not on the ground level; rather, they are upstairs by a mini game room. The floors were unfortunately kind of sticky. There are stairwells on either side of the theater as well as an escalator, but I didn't remember seeing any elevators, however. Therefore, I highly recommend patrons with mobility issues to use the restroom *before* going to this theater. Overall, not too bad of a theater, but there are definitely better choices out there. I do like how it was pretty close to South Coast Plaza, another shopping center I had been meaning to visit, so I definitely made the most out of my afternoon getaway to Orange County! * In "I Know What You Did Last Summer", don't leave the auditorium when you see the initial credits rolling during a drone shot of the coastline. There's another scene after that before the final credits roll.

Went to watch a movie with the family. We saw the movie Sinners. The movie sucked lol The seating is very old school. No reclining chairs here. They have the traditional chairs, and they are terribly uncomfortable. Very small too. I barely fit my butt in the seat lol That's how small it was. Not comfortable sitting through a movie like that. They need to update this theater. It's old and outdated. Add some reclining chairs, so guests have some space. I felt crammed between two people.

Small popcorn is still small, but the small soda is surprisingly big! Well, girthy anyway.

The Context: Many years ago this was a popular cinema to go to because it had what was then cutting edge stadium seating and surround sound, all located in the popular South Coast Plaza neighborhood. I used to go here all the time because it was safe, close to shops and restaurants, and always had the latest movies. Today, it's features are no longer cutting edge, so it was interesting to revisit so many years later. The Good: It still shows most of the new releases, is clean and organized, and provides a safe cinematic experience in a popular area. Plus, the employees are friendly enough. Oh, and I was shocked to see how large the small cup was! It's not tall, but man is it girthy! A pleasant surprise, as I was expecting a tiny cup at a steep price. The Bad: What once was herald as ingenious is now rather inconvenient: stadium seating. Back in the day, this was great because it elevated each row so everyone had a clean view of the screen (unlike theaters before the late 1990s that only provided a slight slope upward and resulted in shorter people sometimes having to watch a movie over the back of someone's head). But when compared to the theater designs of today, which is more like rows of boxed seating with lots of space and fully reclining seats, stadium seating offers stiff chairs and little leg room. I'm a dude of average height and my legs felt cramped. And when people slid into their seats behind me, they often bumped the back of my seat or even my head. The Ugly: The bathrooms. Why? 1) there's only 1 men's and 1 women's restrooms, and both are on a second floor while all the screens are on the first floor. That means having to take an escalator or set of stairs to use the bathroom. Super inconvenient. Plus, in the men's restroom there are no dividers between the rather close urinals. What is this, a 1980s dive bar? The Conclusion: I used to love coming to this theater for years, but with time and recent innovations, my preferences have changed. Given how expensive tickets, popcorn, food, and drinks are these day -- and how convenient it is to stream movies at home -- I'm not sure how often I'll return here. Simply put Metro Pointe is outdated and being left in the dust.

I came here to watch Wolverine and Deadpool, which was AMAZING! Definitely recommend watching that movie if you're in any of those characters. I came to the theater on a Saturday and it wasn't too busy. We had a showing at 4:30 and it wasn't too busy. I hadn't been to the theater in years, so a few things were new. There was no one at the theater booth, but we had our tickets on a QR code on our phone. The person scanned our QR code, and we walked in. We went in line and got some snacks. I got a large popcorn, a large drink, and pretzel bites. It came out to about $30. Pretzel bites took a little while to get to us, so we waited about 10-15 minutes for it. While waiting, we need to use the restroom, which is upstairs. They also have an elevator to get there, but if not, you'd have to take the stairs. Once ready, we went in the theater, and I noticed they didn't have reclining seats. I was really hoping for reclining seats, but I guess it costs extra. I feel like that is a necessity for me now. Anyway, the movie was great and the theater was good too. I miss the reclining seats, though.. I wish that was standard.

I came to this Regal on a value day so the tickets were $6 each. The popcorn was yummy!! I watched Bad Boys and it was good!! I really liked it and highly recommend. The theater was clean and I enjoyed my experience here 5 STARSSS!!!

Definitely not my favorite place to go for a movie however it does the job. Came here for a movie preview and I'm doing the review since I came. Definitely has that dated feel. When I went to the concession stand, they were quite busy however they were fully staffed. There were several things on the menu that I requested, however was turned down because they did not Have it in stock or prepared such as a hotdog. When I asked for a hotdog they said I would have to wait another 15 to 20 minutes for it and wanted to charge me for it and then have me come back and grab it which I thought was a little weird so I declined that option. I ended up getting two popcorns and two sodas and when I asked where I could get a straw they told me I had to go behind the concession stand, which was very inconvenient in distance. They also didn't have any boxes or carriers which I found a little bit odd Since other theaters tend to have those types of things. Once I was in the theater, I noticed that the stadium seating was a little bit more condensed than the newer ones. Although the seats did not recline, They did do a little bit of rocking which was better than nothing. I also did find it weird that only the last rows at the top of the stadium seating had the nice space between the aisles where everybody else was pretty much Having to deal with minimal space between Rows. Overall, if you're just there to see a movie and don't care about spacing and comfort this is the place to be, but if you're more concerned about comfort and distance from people, you probably wanna go to a newer movie theater such as an AMC that has the reclining chairs.

    1. The popcorn and soda are good, but it's the same as other locations! There is not much special food options at this spot! 2. The spot has old retro vibes! 3. The staff were friendly and quick with my order! It took less than 5 mins! 4. Parking may get crowded on the weekends, but there is a free parking structure! 5. They did not have recliner seats in my theater room! Note: Bathrooms are located on the second floor! Photo: Small Popcorn and Small Soda

Ceiling lit walk way from the roof parking lot to the theater

This Regal Edwards is at the far end on an elevated level at the Metro Point right next to the free parking structure. If you park in there, you can drive all the way up past the 3 levels to the top roof parking and walk straight to the box office under a blanket of lights strung above the walk way leading to it. Oh and the restrooms are on the second level once inside. Oddly enough, there are no listed showtimes displayed anywhere for the movies playing, there is only a list of movies out front. I guess they assume that you will already know the time for the movie that you want to see before arriving. I just hope that they don't ever withdraw or change their times that might be posted on 3rd party sites, like Fandango, the way that the Regal theater in Foothill Ranch did 2 weeks ago.

Old school movie theater, meaning the seats do not recline. They have special low pricing on Tuesdays so that is worth it. Just not a comfortable seat if you are going for a 2+ hour movie.

Pretty clean, comfy seats. They don't open all the way out like cinemark but still comfy.
