Old. Beautiful. Charming. Timeless. Love their revival movies. Seen Top Gun, Jurassic Park, Goonies, and Annie Hall here. A Portland pillar.

I go to the movies almost every week and I will say I don't usually come here because I am accustomed to the reclining seats. However I saw Mufasa the other night was was surprised at just how much I loved it. This was the best popcorn I have ever had (even tho it was a little crumby). The prices are super reasonable and the vibes were super cozy and quirky.

Great neighborhood Movie Theater. Their prices are incredible and have quite a few showings a day! They offer Pizza, Snacks and even Sushi! (All from local restaurants) They had quite a few alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages as well!

I had a good experience at the academy theater. Tickets were cheap and the vibe was nice. We went to see poor things. The theater was a bit small but for the vibe of the location. The food and beer were all pretty cheap too! I wish it was a bit bigger, but I understand it adds to the charm. I had a good experience here.

Apparently my wife and I are on a kick of patronizing local neighborhood movie theaters of late, having popped in to both the Roseway, and now the Academy, within the past month, and I've gotta say, I'm digging it. Excellent ticket and concession prices, with an awesome selection of beverage and food options, many of which are provided by restaurants local to the neighborhood, including pizza, sushi (at a movie theater? wut?) and locally brewed ciders and IPAs. The Regals and the AMCs of the world have lost that movie magic for me, so it's either Studio One (when we're feeling fancy), or a local outfit like this one. Sure, they're not as shiny and polished as a brand new cinema, but there's something cozy about "vintage" theaters like this one; it feels worn in and welcoming, like a comfy recliner.

Absolutely love this theater! Love the neon sign out front, love the prices, love the older theater feel, love the customer service and love the newer, and quite comfortable seats! I've been coming to this location for years and am not sure why I've never written a review :-/ I brought my mom here to see the Academy Award nominated A Star Is Born! I was so happy that I was still able to see this very moving movie on the big screen. I believe the seating has been upgraded since my last visit, which was a very nice surprise. I actually don't remember them having the BOGO ticketing on Tuesdays either! What a deal...two admissions for $4...we were pleasantly surprised! My mom ordered popcorn with butter and a soda. She thought the popcorn was good. I ordered a piece of the cheese pizza from Flying Pie. It was really good. It hit the spot since I wasn't feeling the popcorn today. The theater was very clean and the service was great! The only downfall is parking. It's street parking only, they have no parking lot. That being said, depending on the time of day, and especially weekends, parking can be challenging. Overall, I highly recommend this theater!

Classy and classic! This place is a wonderful blend of old and new. Neon lights, local art, Flying Pie pizza, beer on tap, theatre chairs that rock, and top it off with extremely low prices for a completely enjoyable movie experience. The whole building is very clean, so much old charm. $4 for adults, 12 and under are $3. Wonderful for dates or family time.

The Academy Theater is small, historic, and cheap representing the best of Portlandia, but it's a terrible experience to watch a movie because louder movies next door drown out the sound and the screens are small. Still, it's cheap, so, you definitely get what you pay for ... which also seems to be totally random per ticket. We paid $4 a ticket. The lady in front of us was let in for free. The guy behind paid $2. The movies are flicks in their 2nd run, so, Academy Theater is a choice for catching a good movie that just wasn't good enough for a normal theater's ticket price. The hippest aspect of the Academy Theater is that it also shows at least one older film at a time to catch up on classics you want to see on a larger-than-your-tv screen ... and by older, I mean movies from 2009. The concession stand has beer. Beer makes any movie better. It makes some movies way way better. Tip: Get Flying Pie Pizza, a couple Beers, and some Caramel Popcorn for dessert. The Academy Theater was originally built in 1948, but was closed for nearly 30 years until being renovated and re-opened in 2006. So, many parts of the theater are just 10 years old. If you live, work, or play nearby, the Academy Theater is a hip 'n historic chance to watch a movie ... as long as you don't care too much about the actual movie-watching experience.

The theaters are cozy and smaller. Seating is good with tables every third seat or so. Flying Pie Pizza is in the lobby, cant beat that.

The cashier was really sweet. She was rebooking a lot people for the next day or two later. But, she was able to get us in for the 10:20 showing while we went to grab a bite to eat. Got a small bag of popcorn and raisin nets for $12.00. Things have definitely changed he wasn't too happy but, he knows I gotta have it (lol). Seats were spacious and very comfortable reclining chairs (w/ foot rest). It had a few compartments for your snacks and drinks on either side. I like the fact that it's several rolls of seats but, not too many of you get my drift. We were directly in middle but, to the right. I felt we were to close until the previews stared and it was just right. A lot of people did have to move because they were seating in other people seats and, it was completely sold out. It has plenty of parking with very clean restrooms on both sides. I would highly recommend this Cinemark we are planning to go again we want to see Scream 7.

This last visit had one person doing concessions and checking people out yet she was doing it better than I have experienced at theaters with a lot of people working. Also, having someone actually layer the butter and be mindful. It is nice. Their seats are great and have useable cup holders and stretch out plus the way the screens are angled so you are not dislocating you neck trying to see the screen. I highly recommend getting their monthly deal because it pays for itself immediately. You get one movie credit for the $11.99 and a movie is over $13 plus you save % on all concessions. I get a $3 off concessions coupons by earning points all the time and you can reserve seats without paying extra! And if you do not use you free movie credit for that month it rolls over so it is such a great deal! There are quite a few movies I have noticed that they show later in the evening also and I am much more likely to go to later movies.

First of all, know going in that the tickets are more expensive than regular theatres. OK, fine,…read morebut you get more, right? Well, only sort of. You do get a waiter and you order from a menu. If you get there early it's a little less awkward since food is brought to your seat. In a darkened theatre with ottomans and little tables filling up the aisle, it's quite disruptive to order or receive food during the film, so see something that you don't really care about missing lines of dialogue. You'd think someone would have thought of this when designing this place. Maybe have an aisle for wait staff behind the seats so the waiter can get in and out more easily with less disruption to other patrons? Secondly, food is average and overpriced. I ordered a 3-item snack tray ($19) which included an artisan cheese plate, 3 deviled eggs and flatbread. The cheese was not "artisan" in any way, shape or form, the flatbread was limp, and the deviled eggs were ok. My husband and I also split a large popcorn ($15). A 10-oz glass of wine was also $15. Regarding the seats and movie experience itself, the seats are different depending upon what seat numbers you choose, but you can't really know that until you enter the theatre and see them. It would be helpful if seating styles were better explained on the website at the time of ordering. Lastly, the house lights and some bright screens on the side wall were lit up before the credits rolled, making the credits impossible to read. As movie lovers, we always stay for and read the credits, and they are a part of the film. Leave the lights and screens OFF until the movie is done! Needless to say, we won't be back again, and we didn't find this movie going experience to be 'special' at all; more like awkward and uncomfortable. If that's what you're into, you'll love it!
