While in Portland recently, I decided to see a movie and went to Regal at Lloyd Center. The theater Is fairly modern, clean, and comfortable. The staff were super nice and they even have beer! That's a plus.

it's old & ran down. they're always running on a skeleton crew so it takes forever to get your concessions. Oddly enough, there's always a ton of staff in the movie theater area. Checking to see if people are going to the correct theater. Overall, I still love Cinemark over Regal... especially this old historic location they might as well turn it into part of the McManaman series

I was just here to see Dune in IMAX (theatre 2). I think this is one of the better Regals I've been in. The seats were very comfortable, the view was great, popcorn was good, and it's clean if a little quirky. The projection quality was acceptable. However, I have to nitpick it a bit. They use a dual projector system in the IMAX theatre. I'm pretty sure one of the projectors needed to be refocused. After it turned on during the credits, some of the trailers got very blurry. (The Batman trailer was especially blurry). I also noticed this throughout the movie in dark scenes. It wasn't that bad, but you could tell it wasn't quite perfectly clear. Additionally, I believe it uses the dual 2K xenon IMAX projectors at 1.90:1 (though this info is hard to find.) While much better than a typical theatre, I really wish they offered the 4k laser projection system at the 1.43:1 aspect ratio. There were many times I could notice the pixel density just wasn't quite high enough, especially with text on the screen. Their silver screen is about 65 feet diagonally, so 2K is really being stretched quite far. However, it's hard to complain because the 1.43:1 laser systems are extremely rare. This is definitely much better than a normal showing. The sound was okay. Unfortunately, like most theaters, they think turning it up very loud is the same as making it sound good. While it was much better than Tenet, the sound was still over 95 decibels in a handful of scenes. That's UNACCEPTABLY loud. It causes hearing damage, and no A/V systems should be permitted to be that loud for public showings. This is an awful trend in the A/V industry, and I've noticed it with many theaters and DJs recently. Like, okay, you have a great sound system with excellent positioning, crystal clear audio, and base you can feel in your bones. But when it's 95 decibels, that is thrown out the window! The music is too loud to distinguish sounds, the dialogue is inaudible, and everything else is just shrill and hurts in your ears. It really strongly sucks you OUT of the emotional experience of the scene. The director cannot intend for me to be sucked out of a big scene (unless you're an audio masochist like Christopher Nolan), so the most immersive solution would be to turn the audio down so that I can hear each sound perfectly! I just know the experience could be SO much better with a little bit of attention (and money) put on the projection and audio system. That said, I am nitpicking. This is probably the best you'll get in Portland, so. ‍ Every theatre is gonna be extremely loud, but at least you get mostly nicer projection and seats here. Anyways, Dune was awesome, but they could implement IMAX a bit better.

I loved the MetOpera Live in HD performance today, but my experience was marred by the loud thumping coming from the theater next to us.

The imax is so ridiculously loud. Absolutely damaged my ears. It detracts from the movie when the sound is that loud.

The lady was taking our order when her friends showed up and she decided to greet and talk to them in the middle of me ordering. That's right, she literally stopped listening to me and started talking to them. She did a little, "oh I'm sorry" but definitely felt the ick. Weird vibes from that place and the restaurant. The Boiler Room was the best place cause it stayed open late and the vibes were chill. Ordered a few drinks that were delivered to us since the bar is downstairs & our table was at the top. The now Star Theater in Old Town/Chinatown, owned by the Dante empire, was a decrepit abandoned burlesque built in 1912 before it was bought by a local film director who built a penthouse condo on the corner above the 1890 abandoned grocery at the corner of 5th and Couch. Dekum Street Theater opened hosting the Portland Dance Film Festival. The building has a small ticket booth at the street. Inside is an architecturally designed lobby. There are modern bathrooms. The theater has raked padded theater seating holding about 90. For the first event an additional about 40 sat in folding chairs on the floor. All in, occupancy is about 170. Sight lines are good. It has been a five year labor of love. The theater space has the 1911 raw concrete walls and the ceiling framing is raw exposed wood. Think industrial rustic baroque. The sound system was clear, the space would work for movies or musical events. All the proper seismic, sprinklers, and emergency exit work has been done. The special thing is an about 20 foot by 20 foot sprung wood floor with or without linoleum. Those floors are used by dancers performing or rehearsing from modern to ballet. It is safer for our body joints. There are probably under two handfuls of them in Portland. We hope to see dance performances there. It is in a neighborhood with an organic mix of food and drink, and they will add their own in the front space. It is wheelchair accessible. There is street parking. This little theater has been lovingly brought back to life, it has a unique vintage vibe, keep an eye out on their socials for events and activities!

This was a show that I'd been looking forward to for 4.5 months, since I'd bought the tickets then, and spent over $100 on them. The assaulter/woman, was seated at least two feet behind me said clearly "this woman's hair is all over in my space". Then I heard a rip and sharp pain, and my hair had been torn out. A big huge part of it, to where I was bleeding and bald in a patch. I told her she ripped out my hair, and she said "your hair was in my space; it was an accident". My husband heard this too. The staff at Alberta Rose knowing I was bleeding and hurt, gave me an ice pack and moved my husband and I outside the theater area to stools in the bar, which is outside the theater area. That's all they were willing to do. The woman who assaulted me was free to watch the show in peace. I called the police, but the staff of Alberta Rose kept reinforcing to them that the woman who assaulted me and her friends had a different story. The friends and my assaulter said my hair got caught in my seat; there was no assault. Hearing this, as well as there are no cameras in the theater, the police didn't even bother to speak with the women, or her friends. If the Alberta Rose Theater staff had brought out the assaulter, as the police had initially asked, before the staff was so dismissive, everyone would've clearly seen that the area of my hair that was pulled out, is a layered area, and it's only about a foot-long. It is impossible for it to have gotten caught in my seat. I was too upset to realize and point this out at the time. The police did get a picture of my bloody head, and were taking this situation and assault seriously prior to the staff being so dismissive. Besides the shock and pain, another reason I was so upset is that the woman who attacked me was still in the theater, behind my family, who I was no longer able to sit or be with. Even worse the staff wouldn't even let me back in to see my family after the show was done. I didn't even see the show, and the artist I hold so dearly in my heart, at all after the assault. She's literally of my favorite artists. This was my fourth show at The Alberta Rose, in so many months. I'm still in a lot of pain nearly 2 hours later. And my assaulter was just allowed to walk away. Alberta rose has been one of my favorite places in Portland. Now I'm sitting in my driveway at home in tears over what happened to me, without their keeping me safe, or defending me in any kind of way.
