There was a large parking lot, plenty of street parking, and parking across the street at the park. The building is very clean, quiet, cozy, has a warm ambiance. Marco gave me the tour. He is a wealth of information and very personable. Anything I asked him, he answered with confidence, and if he didn't know the answer, he did thorough research to find out and get the information to me in a timely manner. From what I've seen so far, it seems like the retirement communities in this general area are either on one end of the spectrum, targeting a lower-income population and providing less amenities, or on the other end, targeting very wealthy families who can afford to pay 10K+/month for luxury and hotel style care and amenities. This community seems to be the only one in the middle, with very competitive rates, but a nicer, cleaner, calmer building than the others with similar rates. Also, their pricing is all-inclusive, not a la carte like many of the other places I've toured, so that's a huge perk for my aunt. Overall, I got a very nice impression of this place. Marco is always available to answer my followup questions, and I think my aunt would be very comfortable here.

There is where I met Martha Reyes. Martha reached out to introduce herself and let me know that she would be personally looking after Nancy. I visit The Kensington each day at breakfast, lunch and dinner to help feed Nancy and get a better understanding of what days are like there. To say the least, I continue to be impressed at the amazing level of care that Nancy and all the residents' experience. Of all the care-givers, Martha stands out not only with her level of dedication to all the resident but especially how she nurtures and comforts Nancy through these new tough times. Not all that glitters is gold…read more I interviewed here and watched staff perform a three-person manual lift for a restroom transfer--something that should be done with a rolling commode, not three people straining with backs bent to keep a resident from falling. This is not a safe lift technique for staff or residents. Especially those who may be fall risks or wheelchair bound - as this resident was. Turns out transfers are routinely done in this unsafe manner because the 25-resident memory unit has only one rolling commode for the whole unit. One. Thats shameful. When this was brought to Director-level management, there was apparently no interest in the resident's care plan or in finding out why the unit wasn't properly equipped. The Director was only interested in finding out who disclosed the information. For a facility charging up to $40,000 a month, this level of basic equipment shortage is unacceptable. And the witch-hunting behavior of management towards nursing staff who bring valid concerns over safety is ridiculous. I am not impressed and I would not recommend.

Golden Road is bit above our relative's budget but I really appreciated Mauricio's professionalism, candidness, and especially the time he took to share his knowledge with us -- even after knowing that we would be seeking something less expensive than Golden Road. Their knowledge base is very detailed and they communicate thoroughly and well which gives you the utmost confidence in their services. I then went to go check the place out and got to meet some of the helping hand & their presence and knowledge was definitely reassuring. Lots of love, compassion, & professionalism here. The place has an extremely quiet setting which is great for rest and peace; with a great surrounding neighborhood, you can totally feel how safe and secure the place is; very clean and organized. It will offer people who are moving into their next phase of life an opportunity to live in a comfortable family atmosphere. We have known the Kiss family for many years. Adriana took care of my mother-in-law for 10 years. We are deeply indebted to Adriana for her loving, kind and gentle care for my mother-in-law. She watched over her carefully for her health and safety. She cared for my mother-in-law in a way that a family member could not. Adriana genuinely likes people and cares deeply for the elderly. Home Away My grandma…read morehas been living at Home Away Assisted Living for 2 years. Which means she was there before the pandemic hit. When it was allowed, I would regularly visit my grandma. The atmosphere is very warm and Adriana and her family are wonderful. There was a point where my grandma was in a larger facility which was awful because it wasn't clean, and you never knew which nurse you'd get (if you could find one). At Home Away it's just the opposite; My grandma's room, bathroom, and the entire home is kept spotless; and the communication is always with the same nurse, Adriana. It feels less like a 'facility' and more like a home. They've even got a little dog. My grandma loves having an animal companion! Adriana treats my grandma as if she was family. I feel like Adriana and her family are now a little extension of our own family. Adriana is dedicated to being patient, kind and caring to my grandma. She's proud of her business and wants her residents to have the best experience possible. Now that in person visits aren't allowed, Adriana is great with communication and has been helpful with getting my grandma on video calls. I feel secure knowing my gram is safe there during the COVID-19 pandemic. I would highly recommend Home Away Assisted Living to anyone looking for great care for their elderly loved ones.
