I am beyond furious with the Regency Grand at West Covina…read more My mother-in-law lived there for 15 years. Fifteen years. She and my father-in-law spent six of those years together in the same assisted living apartment. The staff and management knew them well. We believed she was part of a community. We trusted that she was cared for. After my father-in-law passed in 2017, everything changed. With new ownership and management came a noticeable decline -- fewer gatherings, fewer thoughtful touches, and a clear shift away from the residents who had built that community. The warmth disappeared. The effort disappeared. The food declined significantly. We dined with her often and eventually began taking her out because meals there were so poor. Over the past year, she lost 35-40 pounds. She was not able to tell us about the food because she had a stroke many years before and could not speak. We later learned she wasn't eating -- and no one alerted us. No one noticed. Or if they did, they failed to act. That is inexcusable. After 15 years in the same apartment, her unit was never properly updated. The carpet was filthy. The bathroom cabinetry was falling apart. The space looked worn down and neglected. For two years, we were repeatedly told renovations were coming. They never happened. Then, after Christmas, she became ill and passed away 20 days later. She spent her final three days on hospice in the very place she had called home for a decade and a half. In those last days, only three staff or management members came to see her. Three. After 15 years. We did hear one staff member comment that she was sad she would no longer get clothes from my MIL (who was always very generous). After her passing, there was no card from the Regency management. No condolences. No acknowledgment to my husband, who had just lost his mother. They once posted notices honoring residents who passed. This time -- nothing. We did everything we could to give her a life filled with dignity and love. We trusted Regency to do the same within their walls. They did not. This is more than disappointment. It is heartbreak -- and a profound sense of betrayal.

Ok, I've waited a few days to post this review, but after reading the 3 reviews before this, they…read moreare suspect at best. All made around the same time, and very little real info. We moved my mom into the Terraces, almost a year ago. When we first moved her in there, it seemed really nice, loving and dignified. The management and caregivers, really cared, and showed my Mother, so much love, and care. The place was clean, upbeat, and fun for the residence in their care. It stayed that way for about 8 months, and then suddenly, the executive director was fired, and shortly after that, the nurse on staff. I don't know why and can't speak to that, but both of them were very loving, and really cared about the residents. About 2 months later, Agemark brought in a new executive director, and that director brought in their own staff nurse. Suddenly, caregivers and staff members, were getting let go, or quitting in droves. All these fun, loving, and really caring people, were being replaced by people, that were just there to earn a paycheck. All the care, and love, that the residents were used to, was replaced with glorified baby sitters. I literally took a picture of 2 caregivers, sitting at a table, staring at their phones, while the residents were left on their own. Another time, a resident, who was in a wheel chair, had got up, and walked into the activity room, and fell and fractured her arm. All 3 caregivers on the floor, were in the elevator room, laughing about something. I literally had to scream for them, to come and help her. Some of the residents are left dirty and sitting in their own filth. There is also one resident that is hyper-aggressive and had literally attacked a few of the residents, and even 2 of the residents family members. This of course was reported to the executive director, who just said he has dementia, and there was nothing that could be done. He, should not be in this facility, and should be somewhere that he and others can be safe. The place has become very dirty and the cleaning has not been kept up. There are missing moldings, the curtains around the windows in the hallway were all taken down, and not replaced. The carpets all have spots, and the floor in the dining area, is sticky to walk on. I decided to call Agemark corporate, and let them know about the issues. They had no knowledge of any problems in the facility. Apparently, they were never reported. I also talked to the state, and found out that there are 2 open cases being investigated. We pay to have our relatives, cared for, with dignity and love, and under this new administration that has been replaced, and now it's all about the money. Luckily for us, we found a great new place, and moved my mom out of the Terraces. If you want your relative to be taken care of with care and dignity, then perhaps you will want to look elsewhere. I'm not saying that everything at the Terraces was horrible. There are some highlights: O.V. the chef, is amazing. He cooks with love, and makes sure that the residents, eat well. Some of the caregivers are there for the right reasons, and do care for the residents, and show them love. They are just overwhelmed, most of the time, and are treated badly, by the new management. This is a memory care facility, and most of the residents, need to be cared for with extra patience and love. They don't understand why they are there, and when I see caregivers getting annoyed or mad at residents, it just makes me sad for them and their families.

A single room became available and our family decided to move our aunt. Clearwater was told on a Friday at noon we would move our aunt on Tuesday. When we arrived Tuesday morning to move our aunt, there were no rooms keys for her room. Staff said they would work on getting keys made. Despite checking several times throughout the day for keys, no keys were available. This meant my aunt had to find leave her room unlocked when leaving her room and go find staff to lock her room. I contacted Clearwater the next day, Wednesday, and still no keys had been made. One excuse is that the person who makes/has access to keys was on vacation. (No one person should be in control of all room keys in a senior assisted living and memory care facility.) I went out of town for a couple of days. When I went by Saturday morning, 4 days after my aunt moved to her new room, no keys had been made. When I spoke with staff, I reiterated it was unacceptable. I also told them I would be writing a review and contacting their corporate office. Within an hour, keys were made and the problem was rectified. Clearwater was given four days notice my aunt was moving to a room that had been unoccupied for several days or more. Even after moving, it took four days and my stating I was going to contact their corporate offices to get keys made for her room. Unacceptable.

This place kept my mom alive for the last 4 years with dementia, up until we had to put her on hospice care which she past away in the home. Don't get me wrong it takes a team effort to keep a person alive and strong in the senior care industry and most people think that they pay for care and are hands off after that, as it should run on its own. You have to be involved in every aspect of your loved ones senior care right until the end and Family Home gave me peace of mind that my mom was taken care of.

We used online and hands on Doctors care( Kasier gives you face to face online appointments as well sending pictures to your doctor for any reasons to get evaluated.) We document Daily, weekly and monthly habits of my Mother-in-law which was required by Med-cal. But because Dementia is a disease of the brain and the behavior and moods gets worse becomes harder to care for someone with this disease, it's becomes the hardest at night. My mother-in-law didn't sleep, always waking up 3 to 6 times a night and would not sleep. When we moved her to this loving place that gave 24 hours care and it had a graveyard shift that recorded everything. It worked with Kasier Doctors, working with her needs with her own Doctor from Kasier and the Kasier palliative Doctor also, that would visit her with a nurse. While at dinner she expressed the experience she had had the two nights she was there. As my folks am I returned her to the house after dinner the owners daughter Summer raised her voice at us calling my grandmother all sorts of ungodly words such as 'evil' the daughter proceeded to raise her voice at us telling us that my grandmother was "unwanted" and that "she was not welcome here". All said in-front of her mother Lisa, who owns the business. Lisas response was just short of a shrug saying, "we're and family business". The owner was apologetic for her daughter Summers lack of professionalism. We were beyond baffled and dumbfounded by the interaction. I packed my grandmothers belongings as quickly as I could and we moved her out of the house immediately. If Summer spoke to use like that I am sickened to my stomach thinking of how she must have treated my sick grandmother while no one was around. Do not pay for the "room with attached bathroom". My family paid for the bedroom with the private bathroom. Come to find out the bathroom had two doors, one that led to the hallway and one to her room. The restroom was locked from the hallway side so she couldn't access it from her room. Besides the private bathroom being any but private it wasn't ADA compliant and she could not get her walker through the doorway. Since my grandmother did not have access to the attached restroom we were paying for, the owners thought putting a bedside commode would suffice. This house is every families worst nightmare when it comes to their elderly loved one.
