The problem that I have with Regency Inn, they didn't return my deposit. My stay was less than 24 hours, no damage was done to the property and they still chose to keep my deposit. I called the property manager, who was reluctant to give his name. He asked me my name, never ask the room number. He told me over the phone that my deposit was returned, I checked out on 12/26 but the deposit charge was posted for 12/25. I have proof that my deposit was never returned. Is the economy that bad where businesses had to commit fraud? Ridiculous, it's not about the money but the principle. People work too hard to be cheated and lied too. read more

AVOID THIS PLACE - Classic bait-and-switch scam. We booked and paid in full through primastay, Confirmation email, money taken immediately. Walked in with luggage rude, unfriendly receptionist smirks and says "old management, your booking is not valid anymore". They demanded we pay AGAIN in cash or leave. Meanwhile their website is STILL happily accepting new bookings and payments from other people right now (we checked on the spot). Extra insults: Laundry = $20 USD for one tiny load (pure robbery) Receptionist was openly hostile and laughing about it Had to find another hotel last-minute in the middle of the night. Clean, with a charming retro quirkiness, I wanted to love this place. But while they've clearly put a lot of effort into updating this 70-year old (?) building, they aren't quite there. Lots of broken things (light switches, towel racks, the shower curtain) which were balanced out by the really nice kitchenette and great TVs. I had to laugh at the comments about low water pressure, as I felt like I was being hit with a warm fire hose (and there's no way to modulate the pressure). My only gripe was that the bare, uncarpeted floors, mean that EVERY footstep of the rooms above you booms like a bass drum. It literally woke me up when an upstairs family was packing up early. The 4 star rating is relative to our expectation. First the good. It had a vacancy for under $100/night during Spring Break. No bed bugs. Clean sheets and floor. The cleaning lady was excellent and wanted to make sure we had everything we needed. Free wifi. Good working A/C, fridge, coffee maker and microwave. You can tell they are making improvements along the way. Now the bad, which is really minor. Loose door knob, couple holes in wall that have been patched but not painted yet. Bathroom is a bit old. Window is in bad shape, no exhaust fan, tub is old. It's in Sarasota which is a bit run down. I would return if I needed another budget friendly hotel. read more

Torn between a 1 and 2 star. I read some reviews and jumped at price, mistake. Guy at reception was not friendly. Big bang as we walked into room. Scary. It was a wooden board that fell from covering hole in the wall that showed framework and plumbing. Glad there were no snakes or rats. Unfortunately I had to call front since water barely sprinkled out shower head. He came to check it and agreed it was broken (duh). Offered another room or for us to just shower next door. Changed rooms , this one full of smoke . Gave up and just hoped no one got sick with their asthma. Found out at check out that hotel just went thru plumbimg updates etc. Will not return. read more

After confirming their address and phone # as correct, we were sure that this was the place place we had a reservation. The owner was belligerent in his insistence that this must be our mistake. Well maintained "classic" Florida hotel. Firstly, understand this review is written for the level of hotel I expected. I knew this was an older, "classic" style Florida hotel, originally built in the 50's or 60's. This is not a Hilton or Marriott, but rather a local place that has plenty of years behind it. That being said, the staff and owners obviously care about the property and giving clientele the best experience they can for this level of lodging. Rooms have been updated as the years have passed. Considering the price per night was around $100 including any city fees, the Regency Inn was clean, AC worked great, and all staff encountered were friendly and helpful. As other reviewers have noted, it appears there may be some longer term tenants among the regular travelers, but they were not a problem in any way. I suppose if you have issues with being around people who are different than yourself, and judge them simply because they may be of a lower economic position than you are, then this might not be the place for you. But, if you want management that values your business and attempts to give you a clean, conveniently located motel at a great price for the quality you get, including pool, free WiFi(okay but not great speed), kitchen area with fridge and microwave, and in our 2 room suite, 2 TVs, then this may be the best bargain you will find. This place has been totally remolded, we stayed in the king size bed suite and it was really lovely. I loved the mid century touches through out the space. I really loved It for the price but will note a few minor issues. - The bathroom doesn't have a vent so the steam for the shower made the place a little humid at times. - because of the new remodel, it smelt like fresh paint. - the ac was a little confusing to control But I wouldn't let that stop you from staying there, it was hella clean and I love how they updated it, but kept that vintage feel. DO NOT STAY HERE!!! While the pictures make this place look like it's been renovated, it's a total "S" hole of a motel! Checked into room 110 a king suite. Ha. First when entering it was extremely hot, when I turned down the air in the unit, an hour later there was a lot of water on the floor. Was kind to inform John the front desk clerk, he then moved me to a smaller double bed room, didn't credit me for the adjustment. Upon entering this unit it was hot too. John said it will take 45 minutes to cool down. At 3:30am the a/c unit was ratting hard and making loud noise. I couldn't sleep. When to the front desk pick up the outside phone and complained. They couldn't do anything. I returned to the room shut off ac so that it was quiet and of course the room got hot. Out to door at 6:45am and no one available at front desk. Not sure the hours of this place but extremely disappointed! At 7:15am Mike finally came to the office which I explained the problem. He was resisting at first to give me a refund. Had to get Expedia involved to close out the issue. Would have been better off sleeping in my car at a Walmart parking lot! read more

Diamond in the rough! I checked in on a Monday evening and it was one of the easiest check in's I ever had to do. Approaching the hotel and pulling into the driveway I shook my head saying to myself, "What am I getting myself into?" The hotel is located on an old stretch of Tamiami Trail, but once you realize that most of the hotels and buildings in that area were built during the 60's and 70's, you can actually begin to appreciate the upgrades and modernization that this Motel has undergone. The new paint and color scheme, the security cameras outdoors, the free Wifi for Motel guests so you can stay connected, the updated bathrooms, and the overall cleanliness of the room. I checked into a king bed suite, the AC was ice cold in the room, the bed was a little hard, but surprisingly did not mess up my sleep. There was two TV's in the room, but mine did not feature the LCD TV's. The refrigerator was full sized, as well as the microwave. But the 4 burner stove was a little small. I just stored soda, water and fruit in the fridge, and ate at several of the local restaurants within walking distance. The Chinese restaurant across the street has a great General Tso's chicken. There is also a convenience store next door, and a Walgreens and CVS a couple blocks away. There were no bugs in the room, and housekeeping cleaned and took out the trash daily. The Management and family was great to deal with and talk to, but the hired help was not as willing to assist with any issues. I will chose this Motel my next trip back to Sarasota, it was comfortable, and quiet, plus family friendly. Also it was priced right. There are other lower priced Motels in the area, but my experience with them are that they are roach hotels. I was so relieved that this one wasn't and was very clean. I'm a bike rider and the manager suggested several safe places to ride, and take pictures. My only real negative was the Wifi needed to be reset a couple of times, and the week I was there, the parking lot was being re-sealed (it had a strong Tar odor). read more

This little inn is absolutely the best small inn I've ever stayed in. I travel a lot for work and normally stay in Hiltons. I decided to try this alternative last week and I was very pleased. The inn is quiet, you have windows on the back side too so lots of light. The AC worked great. The windows open, the bathtub is huge, and ... there a really nice park at the end of the road, and a nice view of the water about 15 minute walk down the road. On top of all that, the family who owns this inn is super nice, friendly, and caring. I personally felt safe and I felt good about leaving my car in the parking lot. I would definitely stay here again ... in fact ... it's very likely I'll be back soon due to my work schedule in the area. Pool area was close to the busy road although the high walls helped to block noise. I was very satisfied with the Regency Inn & Suites. We stayed during an event for Ringling College in April is 2022. The Regency is less than 10 minutes from SRQ airport and less than 3 minutes from Ringling campus. The Regency was clean, the front desk folks were friendly and helpful and the parking was easy. The Regency is near to Publix grocery store and restaurants and shopping on Siesta Key and St. Armand's circle. The rates were more than reasonable and it was nice being able to come and go easy and without crowds. Our room had two beds. A small desk, tv, 3/4 size fridge with freezer, hair dryer, microwave. The water pressure in the shower was not great, but I find that to be the case a lot in FL. You could hear people in the above room walk around sometimes, and you can hear traffic from the main road, both of which we canceled out by using our white noise machine. The AC unit was strong and kept the room cool even in the hot FL afternoons. We have already planned a return stay for another event at Ringling in the fall. read more

While this isn't really a five star hotel, (come on, I only paid $60/night)It is clean and the staff is A plus!The decor was very sparse (I think it is the only place I have ever stayed with NOTHING on the walls, no curtains on windows -there were blinds) and plain. Old stove and Frig but again, clean. No bugs. Location is not great but I certainly did not feel unsafe. Everyone on the staff there that I dealt with was super friendly and helpful. Stayed three nights in Feb 2020. Clean, newly remodeled, everything worked and no signs of bugs!! Staff was very nice and helpful. Not bad. It's the season, so a room (suite- sitting area and kitchen with extra tv ) is $129 which would be high otherwise. It looks a little rough on the outside but our room has been recently refurbished and was neat and very clean, freshly painted and with new appliances and fixtures. Beds are comfortable but small for 2 people. Though on US 41, it was quiet (bedroom is behind the sitting room so is extra quiet). read more

A clean, comfortable and affordable place to stay in Sarasota. The hotel is near the Ringling Art Museum and the Sarasota Airport. It is 10 minutes from Lido Beach (which I recommend). It is less busy than Siesta Key, unless you're staying there, and there is a bar, showers, and a sitting area right by the main parking lot. Back to the hotel- I chose it because it has a full kitchen and I need to cook my breakfast. The hotel doesn't offer breakfast. The room had a nice refrigerator, stove, pots and pans, plates and silverware. You can buy groceries at a Walmart supermarket that's 2 blocks away on the same side of the street. You also have a CVS and Walgreens 2 to 3 blocks away. There is a laundry downstairs (bring quarters) and a pool (although I didn't go into it). Bring beach towels. They won't lend you use the pool towels to go to the beach. There is always parking. A couple of drawbacks to the hotel. The reception area closes at night and you can only leave a message. We didn't have to, but I thought I'd mention it. The maids are nice and the place is very clean, but make sure you're very clear with them if you're staying there several days. They'll come to ask you what you need and won't go into your room unless you ask them to do specific things. read more

There were some very shady people walking around especially at the convenience store next door. Overall still worked fine but way overpriced for what this place is. The area is a little ghetto , the bathroom does need remodeling but good over all. The floors seemed clean but after walking around on it and letting my son crawl on it my feet and his knees were black from all the dirt, that kind of sucked. read more

Wow. What an experience. Felt like I was staying in a pristine European gallery. The white walls and blank television screamed "Freedome". The furniture was easily manipulated into a variety of appealing personal installations, to which the beds provided perfect "contemplation areas" to view our creations. The inspiration was thick while surrounded by such a blank canvas. (Idea: create crayon-friendly walls and ceilings). After a long night of furiously and freely creating lyrical expressions, we awoke to news that a late checkout and a complementary stay were included as long as we kept one of our installations for the viewing pleasure of future patrons. I should also mention the framework of the building itself could survive a tsunami. We were sheltered safely--like two small koalas in a cocoon of a larger koala--from tornados that were ravaging siesta key and tearing families apart. Whilst that was ensuing downstream, we were in blissful creative repose. We would like to offer our most resounding, full wildebeest gratitude to the regency. You made our hands find new and endless loops of repetitions, unfolding mysteries unknown even to ourselves. read more
