During the cleaning, they found a couple things that needed additional work, including a filling, and took the time to explain everything clearly. Dr. Lockwood made a crown for me. He is very professional and patient. I had a lot of questions, and he listened to all of my concerns without rushing me. He explained the differences between crown materials and discussed the options based on my specific dental situation. He even showed me the advanced machine used to make the crown, which was very interesting. I really enjoyed our conversation. During the visit, I felt confident that he is a doctor who can solve difficult problems while trying to preserve your natural teeth as much as possible. I had a few (Too many) issues to take care of including a front tooth crown, that was originally going to spread over a couple of visits but they managed to get it all done in one sitting after I told them I was up for it. In addition to expert numbing needle work, Dr Eskeland used their state of the art in house CNC machining capability to craft a crown on the spot that is so good that even under magnification I can't tell the new left side eye tooth from the original one on the right. The color is a perfect match as well and the inside tongue feel is fantastic. The 3D optical model generation was spot on and in addition to being super accurate, there were no plaster molds and such to choke on. The XRays said it was going to be close but he was able to skillfully avoid the need for a root canal (Yeah!) and the overall "Back to normal" recovery time was just a couple of days. I should also mention that his assistants working with the doctor made for a skilled and efficient team... a real pleasure to watch them work from behind my protective glasses. On top of all that, the front desk took care of the insurance so that I feel like I got very good value for my dentistry dollar, especially considering all the man-hours they put in. read more

I've been a Regents Dental Group patient for 15 years, but this place has changed for the worst over the last years. Most recent visit was a disaster. Came in for painful tooth. The dentist had very little time to see me, even though I had a scheduled appointment. I explained where the sweeping and bleeding were and how my tooth was exposed. I was told I needed a cleaning and some antibiotic, and he would be right back. After 20-30 minutes the assistant came back and said they didn't have time for me today after all, and I could schedule a cleaning some time in future, which ended up being 4 weeks out. My gums were swollen to double size, painful and bleeding, but I was sent home with no further explanation. This is the second time this happened. Finding a new dentist for the family. read more

Staff are always smiling even at 7AM in the morning. Hygienist taught me how to floss correctly and gave me many tips for my oral health. My fillers feel great now after a month! I would definitely keep going to them. read more

Definitely zero star if there is an option. Be very careful when they suggest to do anything other than teeth cleaning. They will suggest the treatments not covered by the insurance company but claiming they would be covered and totally free. Then a month later your insurance would reject the claims and send some partial bills back to the dental. The dental will send the bill direclty to you. They are basically frauding both you and insurance company to get paid. The bill they send to insurance is way much higher then the price it should be. Insurance could reject and pay paritial bills. But you need to pay in full. Otherwise it will go to collections and ruin your credit. Totally fraudulent dental! Stay away from it if possible. read more

I've been going to Regents Dental for nearly 20 years and have only experienced great service from everyone who works there. Like all dentists, Regents is in the business of poking, scraping, and drilling in the mouth, which for most regular people is quite the unpleasant experience, but the manner of Regents' personnel, from reception, to hygienists, to dentists makes the experience a lot more tolerable, so much more tolerable. I find the knowledge and technical expertise of hygienists and dentists who work at Regents to be top notch. I have had a decent experience here for all 3 of my visits. Parking can be difficult as the lot has limited spaces, but they do validate. I feel like I was overcharged for my night guard, but maybe just because my insurance didn't cover it. On my most recent visit, the hygienist did not seem to be enjoying her day or the job and was rushing during my cleaning, but the dentists are always super nice. Be aware, they do use a dental dam for cavities, something that was unpleasant for me and I've never experienced it before. read more

We are fortunate enough to have insurance- AND they cover three visits so not only are we long time patients but we go 3 times a year. I have never had a bad experience with anyone at the office. From the front office staff, to the hygienists, to Dr. Eskeland, we have had 5 star experiences every time. I had a wisdom tooth pulled- and we had a fun time apparently while I was being wheeled out after being sedated. They joked about it at my follow up visit and it just is such a great office. Before Regents, I hadn't seen a dentist in an unspeakably long time. Everyone at this office was pleasant, from the front desk staff to the hygienist and the busy dentist himself. I never once felt shamed for not having a dental check up in years and was only given kind, supportive words and encouragement to come in more often. Dentists in the USA can unfortunately be very hit-or-miss, with some offices existing only to upsell and scam patients. This is not one of those offices - all prices were clearly stated and nothing was offered that was unreasonably priced or unnecessary. I had been very satisfied with all of the work I had at Regents Dental until I had a bone graft and an implant put in. The implant tooth is the wrong color and the bone graft was not done well enough and now my upper gum line is ugly. When the doctor put in the final tooth he held it up so that I could only see the bottom part of the tooth, which looked like the correct color. Once the tooth was in, the doctor quickly ran out of the cube I was in, instead of holding up a mirror to show me the new tooth like every other dentist has done since I was 15 years old. I can only guess that there was some sort of coating on the tooth because at first the color only looked a little off, but as a few weeks passed I realized that the tooth did not match my other teeth at all. When I asked about fixing the tooth the office said I could get a new one for $2300 or $2800. The implant doctor said the bone graft could not have been done better. I must differ because I had another implant with a bone graft that looks normal. The implant was the worst experience I've ever had in a dentist's office and I am still very unhappy with the tooth and my messed up gum line. I used to have dentists that made sure the color was correct before they put it in and that my smile was as good as it was before the procedure. Regents Dental is good for most everything. Do not get implants and bone grafts at Regents Dental. read more

I've never had them do anything other than routine 6 month check ups, so I can't comment on any major dental work, but I do recommend them! I am the type of person who puts off getting their wisdom teeth taken out until the very last second. I am 22 years old, and it came time for me to put on my big girl pants and get them removed. I called multiple dentists around the La Jolla area and Regents Dental Group seemed to outshine all of the others! I made an appointment and was able to schedule to get them out in a few weeks. My insurance covered the entire procedure besides the $285 oral sedation pill I undoubtedly needed due to my anxiety. The procedure was very quick and painless. As a brand new patient with no history of previous gum disease I was told I need a deep cleaning procedure called scaling and root planing. I said that I needed more time to research this procedure before making a decision if I wanted a deep cleaning or not. I asked to still receive regular 6 month cleanings and was denied. It should be the patients right to choose what procedures they will have. When I declined the aggressive scaling and root planing procedure they refused to schedule me for any future 6 month checks ups and regular cleanings. So I was basically dropped as a patient for wanting to hold off on a deep cleaning. read more

I'd been seeing Dr. Eskeland for years when, 10 days after a cleaning appointment and checkup, one of my teeth started hurting. An endodontist did nothing more than poke it with a needle to see how far it went in to decide that my tooth needed to be extracted (a test I wish someone had done years earlier). Dr. Eskeland's office says they'd been 'watching' this tooth for years. A lot of good that did. I had an extraction, had an implant that went well (done by somebody else), and then Dr. Eskeland had my crown made and put in. Dr. Eskeland had me choose the shade of white I wanted and even asked if I planned to have my teeth whitened to make sure I picked the right shade. After he put the crown in, he showed me the side of my new tooth in the mirror and had me sign a document that I was happy with the color. When I got home, I saw that the new tooth actually looked dark. I tried to brush it off, called the office and was told by the person who picked up that that shouldn't happen and that it was probably the paper that they use to check the bite. I was promised I would be called back and was not. I asked to schedule an appointment where Dr Eskeland convinced me that the tooth was fine the way it was even though the metal was exposed and it was trapping huge quantities of food. He said nobody could see it in the back of my mouth anyway and that trapping food was normal for implants. He made it sound like redoing the work would be difficult and require another long healing process. A while later, I went to a different dentist, and attached is what he showed me. There's space between the crown and my gum where large quantities of food are getting trapped; the tooth is so far out that the metal part could not be covered; and part of the crown has been ground away to fix my bite. The new dentist recommended I get a new crown on top of the implant and said that would be pretty easy to do. I called Dr Eskeland's office to ask for a refund for the crown since it was clearly not what I expected when I paid thousands of dollars for a realistic-looking, functional implant. The office nicely took my message twice, two weeks apart, gave me an email address to send pictures, promised to give me a call by Monday (10 days ago), and I never heard back. Would give negative stars if I could. I visited here as a new patient because my filling came off. I scheduled an appointment to fill in the filling. I went there and got checked. The doctor was extremely busy as he was swinging by multiple patients during the same time period. He asked me to point to him the missing filling, instead of working on it, he poked around and said I have lots of other cavities. Then he left for another patient while asking me to wait for 40 minute. Then the nurse came and said they may not be able to treat me that day, or I can continue to wait. I was worried my problem get worse so I chose to wait. After a long wait and got treat, I got up and paid the fee, I walked out feeling more and more pain in my cheek. I looked into my mirror, my mouth was full of blood and somehow the filling is now extremely big (he did drill for a while). I spent the rest of that day and the next in pain but it was bearable. But now about 6 months later, the filling I got here chipped a bit and I feel pain when I drink room temperature water. I will never return to this place and will tell everyone I know to not go there. read more
