They are lucky to even get one star!!! I first frequented Harmony dental back in the summer of 2011. I said to myself, "Ricky, its finally time to fix the mangled teeth you call a smile so you can meet a nice lady and make some baby Jezniks" So upon review of invisalign and Harmony Dental, I decided to give it a try. I was promised the world upfront during my consultation and was told, "Ricky, when we are done with you, plan on having the greatest smile in all of California." I was feeling great about fixing my smile, they really had me convinced. So needless to say, Harmony Dental gets 5 stars for their bogus upselling! I was told throughout the process that my lateral incisors were looking great and that I was "half way there." What a load of crap! I was just living on a prayer. The assistant refused to agree with me that my aligners weren't fitting correctly. I expected some discomfort going through the invisalign process; however it became brutally painful and unbearable. Long story short, I ended up back where I started...with crooked mangled teeth that resembled a jack-o-lantern created by a toddler. As a result, I am out several thousand dollars and neither Harmony Dental nor invisalign reps will acknowledge the poor service they provided me. I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau and reporting the matter if they don't acknowledge the poor work they did. I came here in March and was told that I need 6 periodontal surgeries (about $1900-$2100 each). I went to get a second opinion where the other dentist said only one of the surgeries is necessary at this point. But I liked Dr. Farid and decided still have the one urgent surgery here with the periodontist she recommended. So I had an appt on April 9, asked a day off from work, had 10-day antibiotic she required before the surgery for preparation and came in on that day. Then I was told my surgery has been delayed regarding to periodontist's family emergency, and I had no idea about the cancelation until I came in. They told me they called me tho I never got any call, oppositely I got both sms message and email 2 days before asking me to confirm the visiting. This even wasn't the worst part. They told me they would let me know when the periodontist is available and make my new appt in 2 weeks. After 1.5 weeks heard nothing from them. I called them and was told that I had been put on an appt on May 11. No body every told me about this appt and I even won't be in town on May 11. I asked for another date and they said the next available date would be in June. My surgery was due on April 9 and my issue was pretty bad at that time. If they could let me know earlier anytime, I could make appt with other places instead of having my issue getting worse and worse during waiting. I felt I'm losing my implant and gum because they wasted so much time and didn't treat me in time. Btw, my gum around implant has never had this bad infection before, it started after a deep clean appt here. Never left a bad review, and I couldn't be more upset about this experience, it is so frustrated. I hope my gum and implant is still fixable. read more

I have had dental anxiety, I guess you could call it, since I was a kid. Accidentally tore the arm off a dental chair once. As a result of this fear and loathing (not to mention expensive & dysfunctional dental coverage), my teeth weren't in such good shape. Repairing the damage was not easy, it took several sessions. Dr. Martinez not only did an amazing job, his demeanor and technique were such that I didn't need the sedation I have in past visits to dentists. With many thanks to this man, I have my smile back! I went here to get my front tooth fix that had a chip, I have been to many other Dentist for the same issue and all the other doctors did a band aid and without any throuoh explanation as to why the filling keeps coming out. Dr. farid explained and did a mock up of what she was going to do and the mock up was beautiful lol there communication system is amazing, their staff is amazing, I left today just so utterly happy with overall every aspect of my visit today. ***WARNING*** Dr. Farid is a crook!. I went in to see Dr Farid with a slight tootchache. By the time I left she had a list of issues a mile long that needed to be fixed. She told me I had 10 cavities.... 10!!!!..... and that I needed to get two root canals. Totallying around $1500 in repairs (out of pocket). So, I went to the root canal specialist that she referred me too. The Dr. told me that he had no idea what Dr. Farid was talking about and that I did NOT need a root canal. At this point I knew she was a fraud. So I went to a new dentist (which I researched 1st)... The new dentist said he was impressed with the cleanliness of my teeth and that I had no new cavities. NONE!!! If I could give zero stars I would!. read more

My mom worked in the dental field so growing up oral hygiene was very important. She always made sure my brother and I cleaned our teeth well, and it paid off! We've never had cavities...that is until I visited Harmony Dental last winter. I went in for a cleaning appointment like I always do every 6 months. My dental insurance changed so I thought I would give them a try. After taking X-rays and cleaning my teeth, Dr. Farid came by to tell me that I had not one, but THREE cavities and that they needed to be filled immediately! They then took me into a separate room alone and told me that this was very serious, and they needed to be filled right away. I knew in my stomach that this wasn't right. I felt pressured and unsure, and told them that I would schedule an appointment later. Fast forward a month, I went to get a 2nd opinion at a dentist that I know and trust (but unfortunately doesn't take my dental insurance). I told them that Harmony Dental said I had three cavities that needed to be filled immediately, and after my dentist took more X-rays and examined my teeth he concluded that not only did I not have ANY cavities, but that my teeth were extremely healthy. There was nothing I needed to worry about. Harmony Dental may have a nice looking office and convenient appointment times, but when it comes down to it, they made me feel pressured to get work done that didn't need to be done, and they falsely told me that I had cavities when I didn't. This office in untrustworthy and fraudulent. I would rather pay out of pocket at a dentist I trust than go back to them again. Always get a 2nd opinion on your dental work - you never know who is out to make some money off of your ignorance! read more

Extremely great experience at Harmony Dental, specifically Dr. Khan who worked on me. Harmony dental gave me my own room to sit in, were very attentive to my comfort, always asking and/or preempting my discomfort. They had a very strong sense of when I was about to be uncomfortable and adjusted accordingly. They take CIGNA HMO, so you don't need the more expensive Delta Dental. They gave me some good numbing for a resin filling, $40. In addition to that, during my filling, they noticed some tarter build up and gave me a pro-bono cleaning right there on the spot! Very nice!! Dr. Khan truly does care about my teeth. I need to get to Dr. Sherman's review page and tell of the pretty god-awful experience i had there. They wanted to open up my gums and do some periodontal disease work, ugh. No way! Sherman also pointed out three extremely shallow spots in my teeth and claimed they all needed to be filled (at twice the price of Harmony if I recall). All I need to do was floss more, which I did. I got my second opinion at Harmony 6 months later, armed with CIGNA, and they spotted only one cavity---and they proved it too by picking out some stuff from it. They didn't just throw a blanket "You have cavity" statement at me. Harmony actually showed me. The other spots that Sherman claimed were cavities never came up. It was just natural teeth grooves. With that said, very positive experience at Harmony dental. I highly recommend. Sorry to Kristen L. I went to this dentist for 2 years. I will never go again. You will be fooled initially by the lush carpeting, fancy x ray machine, and cheerful secretary. However, you will be disappointed because 1) the dentist never bothers to learn your name, 2) will mix up your case with other clients, 3) will say you have cavities (that aren't actually there), and 4) will try to sell you on the lucrative teeth whitening service. All I wanted was a 6 month teeth cleaning done properly. These people did not do as thorough a job as my old dentist (who isn't in San Diego). When I got a second opinion about these cavities Harmony Dental claimed I had~ my old dentist said that there *were* no cavities. I got to say this is the nicest and most polite dental office I have been to so far. From the phone calls to walking into their office, the worker were very friendly and were easily approachable. I hate going to the dentist due to many bad past experiences, which made me very nervous.I would definitely come back here again. I made an appointment to get my filling fixed two weeks before I came in, the person over the phone was very helpful and friendly. She asked for all my info. over the phone and looked up my insurance to make sure I was covered. I came in for my appointment greeted by a friendly smile, they took me to a room to fill out some paper work on a computer before heading back. They took some X-ray and had Dr. Farid explained to me what needed to be fixed and such. Dr. Farid was the one that fixed my filling, she was very nice and understanding about my anxiety with dentists, so she took her time with me. She told me whenever I needed a break just raise my hand and we can take a break. She made my dental experience so much more better then all of my past dental visits. I have had LOTS of scammy, chop shop dental experiences, but I Love love love this dentist! The Dr. and the Dental Assistant/Office Guru Danielle are super nice and always on top of things! The dentist seems to really care about her patients and has a very warm, kind spirit. I would give them 4.5 stars if I could. Sometimes you have to wait a little longer than you'd like, which causes the loss of a star. BUT - You are not going to see a parade of different dentists who don't know what is going on with you... just Dr Farid... and you might have to wait because she is busy taking good care of someone else so.... 4.5 stars. In glancing at the reviews popping up as I write this, I see one that says "Warning Dr. Farid is a crook." This is not true!!! Believe me, I have been to several scammy dentists before (and since... see my other reviews...) and she is not one of them!!! She has high tech equipment and will show you your cavities right on the screen in front of your face!!! In fact, I recently went in for a toothache and she told me to wait and see if it gets better or worse before we do anything.... Turns out it is feeling much better. Update, TLDR: Serious dental malpractice. took advantage of me as a young person and pressured me into getting unnecessary work. I filed a grievance with my insurance company and they agreed her fillings are unsatisfactory. She also didn't keep accurate records of my treatment, which became apparent when she sent her responses to my grievance. Front desk staff was unprofessional and incompetent. I had to pay thousands of dollars to repair work that I spent less than $400 on with her. Original review: I made this yelp account just so that I could tell and warn other people about my negative experience here. I came here at the end of 2017, thinking that, since it's been over two years since I last went to the dentist, I might as well get checked out with my new insurance. This was one place nearby with positive reviews, so I decided it would be good enough to get the job done. Horrible decision on my part. On my first appointment here, I got x-rays, and Dr. Farid told me I had 5 cavities that needed to be filled, and that I also needed a root canal. Bear in mind that I was not experiencing any pain AT ALL during this time. I thought about getting a second opinion, but didn't want to go through the trouble of finding someone else, taking more time off work, etc., so I decided to just listen to Dr. Farid. She convinced me to get the root canal, and to my surprise, that has thus far been the least problematic of my treatments here. Dr. Farid has the specialist come to her office, and then 1-2 weeks later, she puts a crown on herself. The crown gave me some uncomfortable days at first, but now it usually feels pretty good. On the downside, her receptionist tried to bill me twice for the crown, and got a little frustrated when I questioned her upon her second attempt. Thankfully, Dr. Farid stepped up to the desk to straighten this out. I then proceeded to come back to this office to get the fillings that Dr. Farid said I needed. This was over the course of about 2-3 visits, I believe. What she didn't explain to me was that she was taking out my old, perfectly functional and painless fillings, and replacing them with a new, "better" material. I am only 24. My fillings are not more than a decade old, and I was not experiencing any problems with them. I thought I was getting new fillings on new cavities, but over the course of these visits, she replaced 3 "old" fillings and installed two "new" ones. She explained the need for the swap out the material after the fact. At this point, you may be asking why I kept coming back. For one thing, everyone seemed pretty annoyed when I asked questions, including Dr. Farid, which made me doubt my own intuitions. Two, after the root canal, I didn't think there could be any HARM in getting fillings re-done, even if it was unnecessary. This was another decision that I came to regret. Fast forward just four months since getting the fillings replaced. I am experiencing sharp pain in one of the replaced-filling teeth. I go to see a new, top-rated dentist in the area. He isn't sure if I need a root canal or not (i.e., doesn't try to convince me to get one if I don't necessarily need one, which is what a GOOD dentist does), refers me to a specialist. The specialist tells me that the tooth is infected with bone loss. I am now in the process of waiting for a permanent crown from the new dentist. But wait, there's more. I am now having more pain on a replaced-filling tooth. It feels similar to other tooth that just needed a root canal. It's strange to me that these teeth were completely fine for 10 years with the old fillings, and now all of sudden right after getting those fillings replaced by Dr. Farid, they become painful and need further treatment that is 10x more expensive than just getting a filling. I wish I never went to Dr. Farid. I'd probably be a lot richer and in a lot less pain. There are a lot of great dentist in the area, so do yourself a go to someone else. read more

So happy I found Dr. Farid. I moved out here from the East Coast and had to continue my Invisalign. I almost gave up on it thinking switching to a new dentist was going to be a huge hassle and more money out of my pocket. Luckily I was able to find this Dr. Farid. She and the staff made my transfer incredibly easy. My last dentist in Florida didn't seem to be very educated with the processes of Invisalign. I absolutely love coming to Dr. Farid and I don't understand the negative ratings. She is kind and attentive to detail. My fillings are beautiful and were done painlessly (even without anesthesia). She saw me multiple times to adjust my mouth guard until it was absolutely perfect. I've always been seen promptly and with a smile. signing up with delta dental, i was apprehensive as the yelp reviews of covered offices near my house were just plain awful. shanna v. had not posted yet so i figured no news was good news and right i was! there are 3 great dentists here but i LOVE dr farnaz farid. when i'm naughty and forget to floss, she stays nice and shows me the proper way to floss and how to use my sonic care. she is also super patient as i have a tendency to drool like a bulldog and gag like a cat with a hairball when any shiny dental instruments come close to me - maybe it's from some deep seeded childhood trauma. plus what dentist has a comfy blankie to keep you warm? wunderbar danielle does double duty to accomodate you up front and to take care of your shiny smile such as x-rays, polishing, and making molar molds. if it wasn't for the drilling and filling of teeth, you'd feel and be treated like a regular sitting at the neighborhood bar. read more

I was encouraged by the other reviews posted, but I had a horrible experience. My husband had seen Dr. Farid and had a positive visit and recommended her. I specifically requested Dr. Farid, as he said the other young and very new dentist sounded really inexperienced when he heard her talking with another patient. So I expected to see Dr. Farid. To my dismay, I go there to find that my appointment was actually with "this other inexperienced dentist." So then I sat in the waiting room, nervously waiting for this appointment that seemed to have started off all wrong. I was warned not to see this dentist and now I'm stuck... and then I waited...45 minutes! Finally, I was seen by the dental assistant for a full x-ray panel. I figured that was no big deal, usually x-rays are pretty painless right? Wrong. Even the x-ray procedure was really painful. The bit wing things were huge and would not fit properly. She kept trying to reposition and get me to close my mouth, which was impossible with the placement and caused me to gag multiple times, with 5 attempts for one set, none of which turned out. Meanwhile, I was getting all the blame for not "trying harder...." So then comes the cleaning, this part wasn't horrible. I don't remember it much, but the worst was when the dentist finally saw me. She said she had just finished school, but she looked and acted like I was the very first dental patient she had seen. She instantly starting poking around with some sharp instrument all over my gums and painfully tugging away. Then she asked "so, do your gums normally bleed this much?" To which I responded "no, because I don't NORMALLY poke and tug at them with a sharp instrument." I promise I am normally a polite and pleasant patient, and I like to give the provider the benefit of the doubt, but I felt like my care was totally compromised. Even when I asked for advice on how I could take better care of my teeth, and wondering how I could have so many problems in just one year, she responded "um, I don't know, maybe floss more?" This new young dentist at Harmony Dental seriously lacks confidence and competence. At the end, I walked out the door with a treatment plan in my hand totaling $18,000!! Might as well pay for veneers if I need that kind of work. Of course I got a second opinion from another highly recommended dentist for which I paid out of pocket and found that only about $500-800 of work was necessary. Definitely not going back to Harmony, sorry Dr. Farid - maybe if I had seen you, my outcome would have been different, but I left very disappointed in your colleagues. read more

Dr Farid is friendly enough, but she misdiagnosed a cavity (which my previous dentist didn't pick up on and my current dentist agrees doesn't exist) and gave a ridiculous quote for new fillings ($1000+ out of pocket). I asked to just get a regular cleaning and they would not let me. The reason I am sure- because they do not make money off of a regular cleaning from the insurance company but make money off of you for a deep cleaning. The tooth hurt as she was finishing when she poked the instrument up in the bottom of the one tooth and it gave me a sharp pain so she put more resin and poked again didn't feel pain that time. Now the teeth hurt with pressure and hurts just to floss! To bad to because I thought everybody in the office was really nice. I need to go to a dentist that I can trust to do a good job the first time not to someone that says after she drills and fills to say" I don't understand why it hurt". What a mess. From the first call to make the appointment threw the visit and the dental work very pleased. 8/2/11 This is a very disorganized dental office. Last time I was there their computers were down and I discovered they had made me an appointment with the wrong dentist. This time they were clearly very understaffed and I had to wait a half hour for my appointment. I almost walked out. The dental care appears to be of adequate to good quality. In comparison with other dentists there is less than average promotion of inessential care. That's nice, I hate it when the dentist's office feels like buying a car. Their dental hygienists do a nice job but I've had more gentle care elsewhere. They had to repeat a few x-rays because they didn't place the film / camera properly. The dentist had a caring demeanor and honed in with advice on improving oral health and what needed immediate improvement or professional treatment. 8/12/11 Update: Rather than addressing my concerns or improving things they've asked me to seek care elsewhere. read more

I'm sorry for the other reviewers that had bad experiences; finding a good dentist is hard, especially if you're trying to find one that your insurance covers! I've had good experiences with Harmony Dental, though. Dr. Farid does a good job of explaining procedures. The front desk staff, Danielle, is super friendly and helpful. I mean, she is a gem among dental/medical staff!!! Also, I just had a very bad experience with my four year old daughter's dentist. Immediately after our appointment with the awful pediatric dentist, I took my daughter to Harmony to have Dr. Farid double check the pedi dentist's work. She got my daughter in right away, even without an appointment, and took her time checking her teeth. I am so thankful for that. I had a few of my own cavities filled yesterday.
