On my first visit, I only had the guacamole, which I also enjoyed. The decor is beautiful and intimate, creating a great atmosphere, and the music is always on point. The staff has been friendly and welcoming every time I have gone. This place is definitely staying in my regular rotation.

Then came the door staff. The attitude was completely unnecessary. If you're going to charge a cover, at least be professional about it. I was initially told the wrong cover amount, and when I asked about an ATM since they only take cash, I was basically told to go find one down the street. In 2026, we're still cash-only for cover charges? Be serious. After finally getting inside, I quickly realized I had paid $10 for the privilege of standing shoulder-to-shoulder with strangers because there was literally nowhere to sit. The place was packed, which is great for business, but not so great for customers who are expected to pay a cover and then spend the entire night standing around. I stayed about 30 minutes because my friends were there, but the vibe had already been ruined at the door. Nothing kills a night out faster than rude customer service before you've even made it inside. By the way when I was leaving, the rude door person had the nerve to tell me that if I came back right away she wouldn't charge me, but if I didn't come back right away she would charge me again the $10. I told her don't worry I would never be back. I love supporting Black-owned businesses and was excited to check this place out. Unfortunately, good customer service should come with the experience, and that was completely missing. Between the prison-yard first impression, cash-only cover charge, misinformation, overcrowding, and rude door staff, this was a one-and-done experience for me. I won't be back.

He told us our server would be with us shortly in a pretty dismissive way. My sister then asked the host if someone was going to come and take our order, by this time we had been sitting for over 20 minutes, in bright light with Afro Beats blasting too loudly over the speaker (yall can't make a mix of different genres?). The host ended up taking our order and then our server came over, taking our order again until we told her we had already put in everything. The food came out pretty quickly but that was it. The servers kind of were also runners. Once the food was on the table that was it, nothing else. No one asked us about anything, you were on your own. My mom did ask for a dessert that sold out and after we told the server it was her birthday, she went to the kitchen and they did us a solid. And she said the bread pudding was good. We watched folks nearby sit just as long for food leave after an appetizer. Honestly it's no surprise because after getting the bill I realized this is Virtue pricing without hardly any of what makes that restaurant successful. I would come back, but maybe on a slower evening. Hopefully things will work out and get better, at least dim those lights and turn the music down a bit.
