I biked past here Saturday afternoon and could hear music. We decided to come back the next afternoon to check it out. This is an upgraded park district snack shop. They have normal concessions (grilled cheese, hot dogs, grilled chicken sandwiches, burgers, veggie burgers, fries, etc.), plus drinks. You can order from the concession stand and sit on the lovely patio, or sit down and the waitress will take your order. The drinks were on average about $7. The burgers with fries were on average about $10. I thought these were reasonable considering the location and the size. I had a chicken wrap, my husband had a grilled chicken sandwich. They were $10 each. Both were tasty, a decent size, and came with a decent amount of fries. (The fries were very good. Thick cut, well seasoned, and fresh). I got a rum punch for $7. It wasn't as sweet as I would have liked, but it was fine and a decent pour of alcohol. My brother got a couple of margaritas. They were $5 each, and the cheapest drink. I think they were a good deal. My brother's girlfriend got a double jack Daniels and it was $14. It was a terrible deal, but she learned a lesson. On the Southside you do not need to order a double to get a decent pour. It was lovely to be out here Sunday afternoon. The deck is pretty, and has a nice view of the beach and the park. The band was good and fun to hear. There were too many bees, but that is an issue being outside. There was a mix of everyone. Families, groups of friends, couples on dates, all races. The wide array of festivals and neighborhood events are what I love about summer in Chicago; it is truly like no other and Pier 31 chooses Wednesday evenings to cater to those that are fans of House music. The pier turns into a platform to congregate and sip drinks and you dance and mingle. Be warned though, it gets PACKED! The crowds usually end up in all areas that surround - the pier itself, the boat docking area, etc and there are plenty that bring their own chairs in order to have a place to sit. The event lasts from 5-9 and it does take some time for the crowd to disperse. If I'm not mistaken, the summer house music series will continue through to October, but don't quote me on that. Before our weather gets crappy, again, I would totally recommend paying a visit. read more

Almost ruined our beach day by blasting music so loud toward the beach goers that you couldn't have a conversation. The music was good though. The drinks were reasonably priced. Just turn down the tunes. It may have been a private party. Not everyone wants to hear music blasted at them when trying to relax on a nice day. read more

We really enjoyed this place by the beach! My husband ordered a Chicago dog and said it was amazing, much better than Kim and Carlos. I ordered a burger and was also not disappointed. Kids had chicken tenders, they were crispy on the outside and juicy inside needed a little more seasoning though. Memorial Day weekend they were not prepared for the crowd. The young ppl working there bad BAD attitudes and at one point two of the young men yelled at me when I was asking where the food we had ordered over 45 mins ago was. We watched 10 ppl get the same exact order we placed. When I asked to speak to a manager they gave me the run around and yelled spoke nasty and was just plain rude. Came here last summer to hang out and listen to some live music. This place was so cute! The atmosphere was amazing and the fried chicken wings were so yummy! You can not bring outside food nor alcohol on the deck but that's ok. Nice summertime fun. Last year I ran into a few friends and guys. So funny, I was on a date and another guy I dated spotted me. What a fantastic location on Lake Michigan to enjoy live music off South Lake Shore drive. I truly enjoyed this part of the beach. There are docks for boat owners and food vendors fora quick bite to eat. My classmates reserved the pier so we had it to ourselves. My experience was AWFUL on Sunday 7/16/2017 when we reserved PRIVATE TABLES for our 35th Class Reunion. If I could give negative 5 (-5) I would. I had heard of Pier 31 and recommended to my fellow committee members this would be a good place to have a beach party for a group of black professionals such as us. I will never do that again. The food was mediocre at best and the service was rude as the Owners daughter called herself getting me straight when I questioned my classmates about the facilities, accommodations and menus. She felt the need to interject in our PRIVATE conversation to verbalize her non solicited and irrelevant comments. After I told her several times I was not talking to her. I set up my tent with other classmates and we ordered Pizza which was delivered to us right there on the beach. Then some went to the store and bought drinks rather then give them one more dime to treat us as if we OWE them our patronage.......NOT!! I WILL NEVER EVER GO THERE AGAIN and will be happy to tell anyone I know not to go either. I will not pay for you to treat me badly , my money is hard earned and valued maybe not by Pier 31 but certainly by me. Good Riddance read more

Great location and I love the live band on Sunday. Service is very poor. Don't rely on waiter to bring your food or get it right. Waited almost 45 minutes for a coke. Managerial staff was not very accommodating and had an attitude the minute I walked in the door. I was bringing 20 people with me and she still wouldn't let us hold more than two tables. I don't want to have to be Beyonce to get good service. Would come back to the beach to hear the band but I definitely wouldn't patronize this business again. read more

I would definitely go back. i went late at night enjoyed the djay spin records along with some "adult beverages." the skyline was beautiful and loved the fact that i could see the fireworks from this location. ONe set back, i think investing in tiki torches or centrella candles for insects would be a great idea. the bugs are pesky and the candles would help with hoarding them off. read more

This seems to be a new snack stand at 31st Street Harbor; I saw someone assembling tables for the deck nearby, and there were chairs stacked along the deck fence. The prices are high; they have a geographic monopoly and figure if you have a boat docked here or paid to park in the garage, you can afford it. The food is okay; should be better for the price. We waited for about 10 minutes for our order. I had a veggie burger ($9.50) and it was rather undercooked; I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich for my child ($4.50) and it was also underdone. Sandwiches come with a handful of french fries. I'll give this place another try once they get completely set up. read more

I am a Fan of Pier 31. My first time there I was attending a Birthday Party on the deck and it was so much fun. I came back a week later by myself and had a cocktail and read some pages from my book. I must say I Love this place and have become a regular. I made sure to introduce myself to the owner so that she can get to know me as well because I live right up the street and plan to spend a lot of time there. The only thing that needs to be corrected or fixed is the bugs(spiders) that hangs from the deck. I was told they were taking care of it. read more

I was at Pier 31 for a "private" party on Saturday (7/15/17) but my experience became unpleasant. I was taking in the atmosphere and really enjoying the experience until this happened. The food that was catered was ok but I had a problem with guacamole which laid on the table uncovered the entire party in the heat (it was on ice but uncovered was a issue). The jerk catfish was good but the jerk chicken was super hot/salty and cut up in tiny pieces (which was weird). The red beans and rice seemed to be at room temperature. There were water carafe's on the table that needed refilling. When asked about getting more water that request was ignored. Then the "manager Cassie" finally brought them back out and dumped the water on some other parties table. The water tasted much different then what we had before, one of the party goers said it taste like "tap water". There was a section at the back which was the length of the deck that was reserved for the party guest that wasn't marked. I spent a majority of the time trying to hold down tables for my friends party guest . One of the staff members "Chris" knew the tables were reserved and instead of asking the customers to move to a nearby table he took their orders anyway. Then I overheard the "manager Cassie" tell one of the customers, "well the party started at 4pm but as you see there is only one person here so don't worry about the seating". Then I asked the "manager Cassie" about the designated tables and why were there 5 tables which accommodates a total of 20 people when 50 are attending. She says, "well we figure there will be a lot of people standing up". I said, "so you assume 30 people will be standing". I received a "dumb founded look" as if I asked a hard question. Her response was, "well you know that's normally what people do at parties". Then I asked, if the seats were "reserved" why are there no signs because I've been spending my entire time here telling people the seats are taken". She says, "we had a previous party and couldn't find the signs". Then hours later (3 or 4) the signs appeared and were put on the table. By that time I had directed guest where to sit. I felt like I worked there. The shortage of staff should have been address especially when you have a full deck of customers waiting. This is not a good look for someone who was there for the first time or any time. The manager seemed annoyed for some reason, if that's the case stay home. Then I noticed the owner looked as if he was hovering over the guest attending the party. Then he changed his clothes and sat at a table to chat as if he was one of the customers. All of this was well before the place was to close. I thought this was really weird for a owner to do. Most people would expect an owner to work the room asking customers how things are and if they needed anything. That didn't happen. Last but not least an hour before the party is over, the music is shut down and police show up stating we have to leave because the party is being shut down. Why? Not sure. No one there was out of order or anyone disturbing the area. It was nice crowd even the regular customers were enjoying the music. It was a very weird night which should have been great fun. I'm all for patronizing businesses and I was really excited about this place but when the customer service sucks, customers will not come back. Would I visit again? No Would I recommend the place? They had a pitcher of classic margaritas that was so delicious. What a fantastic place to relax, watch the waves and listen to jazz! The deck is amazing. It's large, with plenty of seating and the food is fresh, made to order. It's worth the wait for a truly delicious burger just like your mom used to make! The margaritas have just the right amount of kick! I was there this past weekend and there was a live band performing and I had so much fun with the crowd dancing and singing along to the music. This spot seems to attract a diverse crowd. This is a wonderful spot to relax with friends and family on the weekend as well as hanging out after work for a quick drink or two before heading home. The view from the deck is awesome. I feel like I have been transported to a seaside resort. The food is great. The fries are delicious--plentiful and hot. All the dishes are fresh and made to order. A true Gem on the beach ! Proof that you don't have to go to the North Side beaches for good food and a good time on the Lake. The Food was great. All made to order. The fries are the best I've ever had ! The cheese burger was fresh and delicious and the Chicken Wrap was divine. They have fabulous hot dogs and grilled cheese for the kids. Hands down my favorite dish to have is the chicken quesadillas ! It is the perfect spot. The kids can have lunch and then play at the beach ( which is absolutely beautiful ) while I have a Margarita and enjoy the deck. They also have live music on Sundays.
