I am on hold waiting to speak with someone at the local Reno SS office. Even though my husband was already getting social security I cannot get survivor benefits until I am 60 which is this August 11th! HORRIBLE COUNTRY WE LIVE IN! Oh yeah, fun fact: my husband was also a VETERAN! Update---I finally got in touch with a live person. They rescheduled me for May 5th. I'm sure there will be an excuse then too when I probably don't get that phone call. Too bad your cushy government jobs aren't an incentive for you to actually show up at your jobs!!! I just can't wait to set up the appt for when I turn 60 this August and file for actual survivor benefits. I'll be lucky to get those next year sometime. Yeah I forgot, even though my veteran husband was already getting social security because I'm 59 I don't matter. Reno social security and social security overall needs to DO BETTER.

The good news is that the DMV has improved significantly. This Social Security office and department has much to learn. It has been over 15+ years since I have had access to my SS information and benefits. So before making an appointment to come to this office, I amazingly was able to get online access last week, so I suggested for my wife to do the same. And now they locked her out?!?! So after a very long wait and a few tries on the phone to clear her account, it failed. They had us go to the local post office for an in person verification, but it was a different system and can NOT communicate currently with the SS system. What a waste of time. So on the phone again... Made an in person appointment to our local office. Well we thought we did, the lady (that lied) said she did. But when we got there, NO appointment was found. So they gave us a walk in #. After an hour of waiting, we asked the security guard if this was normal. He said no and gave us a few suggestions. While my wife worked on his suggestions, I started asking ALL the people around me how long they have been waiting, up to 4 hours... WHAT!!!! The good news is that we are still very young and will not apply for the benefits any time soon. I hope my wife gets online access years from now.... Atmosphere - Small parking lot, but more than enough spaces for everyone. Small lobby, not enough room for everyone. Clean restrooms. Service - The two security guards were friendly and nice. And also helpful. The rest of the employees were stressed out! Understaffed, overworked, and probably underpaid. Price - Decades of payroll contributions!!!!!!! And only get to hear from the media that benefits keep getting pushed out later with less $$. Owner Comment - What a broken system. Please get with the times.

At one or the other I've met the elected Sheriff, several sworn Deputies, several volunteer Reserve Deputies, and several administrative staff. Their Press Releases on their website are well-written (FAR better than Reno PD or Sparks PD press releases). I have no complaints. Make us to choose the harder right instead of the easier wrong, and never to be content with a half truth when the whole can be won. WCSO has stepped up to help out Veterans. WCSO is now on the front lines of fighting to reduce the staggering and horrifying number of Veterans who daily succumb to suicide at the rate of more than twice that of non-Veterans. In 2000, WCSO recognized the special burdens of alienation and terrible toll Veterans carry from their military Service and created Veterans Barracks to house up to 60 male Veterans. Program includes the addition of Veterans' familiar resources from the US Department of Veterans Affairs and Veterans organizations. WCSO staff works to help Veterans in jail get out of jail and stay out by acknowledging their military Service and building programs centered on Veterans' shared experiences. "The ultimate goal is to reduce recidivism amongst our Veteran population in Washoe County," said Sgt. Andrew Venn, who is part of the Inmate Management Unit at WCSO. "We bring in very specific targeted programming just for those Veterans, so the classes they'll have available, for example, anger management, domestic abuse, substance abuse, and parenting are four major ones." Deputy Shannon Aller, who has a degree in psychology, said "The reason that we're doing that -- not only for us as an agency to track recidivism and see what's working, but to make sure that what we are putting in this unit is what they need." Venn said once he introduced himself as a Veteran to the inmates who are Veterans, "the change was instantaneous. They went from being standoffish and protective of their personal space to unifying under their shared identity as Veterans. The idea of peer support came up almost immediately and that is not something you hear walking around a jail," said Venn. An inmate told Venn, 'We're Veterans first.' WCSO partners with Truckee Meadows Community College to offer education for inmates along with representatives from Reno Job Connect, who visit biweekly to prepare inmates for a job search once released. Since 2020, WCSO have partnered with Northern Nevada State Veterans Home with their 'Operation Gift A Vet'. Some 86 female and male Veterans living at this Veterans Home are asked to write down three things they want for Christmas-- and their wishes are hung on the tree for the WCSO employees to collect and grant. Requests have been for slippers to blankets to compression socks to robes. According to Yelp ratings' definitions, 3 Stars is "Ok". That to me is an acceptable rating of a business that does day in and day out what they are in business to do. WCSO gets another star for their work with Veterans. On Christmas Day in history: 1776, General George Washington and the Continental Army famously crossed the Delaware River. Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of overcoming it. Christmas Day 1862, a grateful nation showed its appreciation for sacrifices of the US Army and Navy with dinners for some 35,0000 sick and wounded soldiers and sailors in hospitals in and near the nation's capital. President Lincoln and the First Lady attended the event--one of the more extraordinary of its kind during the American Civil War. "Nowhere else in the world than in America," a New York newspaper wrote, "could have been the sight which has made this holiday in Washington remarkable and memorable - spread by the hands of individual benevolence." Elizabeth Smith, wife of Lincoln's Secretary of the Interior, was a driving force behind this Christmas Day event. Financial contributions for the event poured in from individuals, businesses and states. (Indiana contributed $700, and $2,500 was collected in Philadelphia.) Food came from throughout the Union. Pennsylvania and Maryland shipped an "immense amount" of poultry. "Ever-generous" Albany, NY provided 300 turkeys, "cooked and ready to eat." Four carloads of poultry arrived from Chicago. Volunteers served the dinners in military hospital wards that volunteers had lavishly decorated. Christmas Day1896: Lieutenant Commander John Philip Sousa, US Marine Corps and US Navy Veteran, a "rock star" of his era wrote "Stars and Stripes Forever". The iconic song officially became America's National March in 1987.

I had been struggling for weeks to get a previous year's tax transcript which I needed for certain grad school testing bureaus. Online- nada, zip. Phone calls? You've got to be kidding me. A top-notch accountant came through big time and helped me out. All I had to do was mail the form to Fresno (IRS regional office) and in 10 days it was supposed to arrive. Nada, zip...and my deadline was looming. I finally decided that face-to-face was needed and stopped by the Reno office late last week...big crowd but the guard/crowd control officer, who runs a tight ship, saved me a ton of time and energy when she asked what I needed. She told me that the transcript request system was down, all the way to Vegas. So, I returned bright and early Monday morning. Yes, there was a wait, but after an hour or so it was my turn. I was helped by a cordial IRS staffer and had my documents in hand within 5 minutes. Victory! Pro Tips: They open at 8:30 AM but if you want to be first in line, get there before opening time and wait outside. There's a little concrete planter you can sit on. The office is ground level in the big bank building across from District Court on Virginia/Court St. Most lot parking is 30 minutes only so opt for street/metered parking. Bring your quarters; 15 minutes per quarter. Don't bring in drinks or food. Don't cop an attitude, and you will be treated well. Get a number, input your info on the touch pad, and sit down. Quietly. Violators will be called out. No public restrooms so arrive (and stay) dehydrated. Bring a book to occupy yourself. Be smart (unlike me) and don't go to the IRS right before tax season

To fully understand and appreciate just how really really difficult it is for those of us who are forced to use RTC Access are disabled and / or Senior. That means the vast majority of us are on very limited and fixed incomes way way way way below what these RTC Commissioners, executives and managers' incomes. All RTC Commissioners, executives, managers, and employees at RTC should be required to ride RTC and RTC Access once a month. All RTC Commissioners, executives and managers at RTC should be required to drive for RTC and RTC Access once a month. Instead these prima-donna RTC Commissioners, executives and managers at RTC work in ivory towers. Instead, these self-important RTC Commissioners, executives and managers at RTC are completely insulated away from those they are paid with public tax dollars to serve and assist.

Truth be told, for most things it's a lot easier, but apparently registering a boat with a motor of any kind requires nearly an act of Congress. Earlier this year I bought two plastic layout boats that had mounts for an electric trolling motor. I could use the boat with or without that motor, but of course the plan is to motorize them at some point. For that reason, I had to pull these plastic floating rectangles you slide into down to NDOW for an "inspection", which was nothing more than them looking at the boats, which I assume was to make sure they're actually boats, match numbers on a certificate of origin and taking a photo for the record. Prior to doing this I went to NDOW with all my paperwork to find out what I needed to do to get these registered. I laid it all out on the table and showed the woman what I had and was told I needed to bring them for an inspection along with the certificate of origin the seller provided me and we could get it all done. The reason for three stars is because after following those instructions I was told my paperwork wasn't sufficient. See because the paperwork was in the name of the seller, they would not accept that I owned the boats. Even though I had every piece of paper provided by the manufacturer and the title to the very trailer they sat on, it wasn't enough to prove I was the rightful owner. So after all of that, I had to track down the prior owner, bring him a bill of sale form (which they provided), get him to sign it, and then return to NDOW to complete the process. Because these plastic floating rectangles will have a motor on them they needed to be officially inspected, titled, and registered, and this process took me as long as it's gonna take to register the trailer! So if you have a kayak and you want to put a motor on it for any reason, you'll need all that and more. Kinda ridiculous.
