One thing I will mention is the garbage cans were overflowing and garbage bags were on the ground which was disappointing and my only complaint. It's a great place to bring lunch and eat under the gazebo by the lake. Lovely!

Decent amount of benches and there is a nice table under a gazebo type situation.. perfect for enjoying a lunch in the park. The best part are the trees!! I had no idea that there were many different trees planted in the park--with the added value of being able to read what kind of tree you were lucky enough to come across. I find that so dope and a great unexpected lesson in science for my LO. She found it quite interesting. And the best kept secret.. there is a butterfly park in the back of the park with seems to be a cool trail.. I was just too chicken to go since it was about dusk and no one else accompanied us. There is also a cute butterfly garden adorned with colorful stones, benches, and paintings. Not much has changed since I came here as a little kid- there are still long walkways in which kids can learn how to ride their bikes, big trees to charade around, and park benches to rest on. The whole area is peaceful and full of charm. Safe. No trouble makers here! The paved rose labyrinth is lovely to wander through and even if one area is busy, there's always another path to enjoy. It's accessible for children and even strollers with a little care. Check out the surrounding grounds for interesting evergreen cultivars like the Pinus wallichiana 'Zebrina' Himalayan Pine. If you have children, look for the sensitive plant near the stone hardscape...they'll love gently touching one leaf to see it close up. Just be kind to it since it takes time to reopen and continue photosynthesizing/let other kids experience it.

Thomas Edison Park has its own parking lot (which has a lot of potholes), but if you're here to use one of the 16 tennis courts, parking in one of the MCC lots and walking through the chain-link fence gate is quicker. From dawn to dusk on weekdays, the gate leading to Rartian Center is open, which allows office employees to take walks in the park during lunchtime. The baseball, softball, and soccer fields are popular with locals on the weekends, as evidenced by the contents of nearby trash cans. The asphalt walkways are popular with the cheeky Canadian geese, who seem to enjoy deliberately defecating where people walk rather than on the grass. Metal benches and bleachers are strewn throughout the park, along with some wooden picnic tables by the parking lot. Interestingly, this park is the only one in Middlesex County designated as a "Model Airplane Field". Since the wide, open, unobstructed fields here lend themselves to being very windy, this park is also a good place to fly kites.

The kid's playground looks good and they even got a zipline for them, so I'm sure kids really enjoy it because it looks like fun. We rode the paths (2x around) for about a 3.5 mile distance. In the more wooded sections we saw a family of deer from no more than 15 feet away, they watched us as we watched them crossing the path. People all had their dogs on leashes and everyone was polite/friendly. A nice scenic place to ride/walk if you want to get out of your neighborhood these days.

For those who are older, the park has two paved paths that are maybe .25 miles and uphill. The paths are surrounded by mature deciduous trees. One path leads to the side edge of the park which is closed to cars but can be exited by foot. The other path leads to the baseball diamond. If you take a side path instead of following it up, you will get to the basketball court. The park looks small from the front but it just keeps going back and back and back and up. It was an absolute joy to be able to walk sure-footed on a paved path with my Service Dog yet still be amongst the trees.

Bring your own water! This park doesn't have any water spigots, drinking fountains, or flush toilets. There's a port-a-potty at one end of the parking lot. The parking lot is big and free. (The whole park is free). Usually this park doesn't have many people or dogs. The road it's on doesn't get much traffic either, making Welsh Park relaxing and quiet.

They have an adjacent parking that's small compared to its counterparts and most of the visitors end up parking on the roads. I take my son here for the weekly soccer class conducted by Sport Squirts. There are also other sports like kids baseball that happen regularly. The park has a good proximity to Main Street Metuchen and in a calm neighborhood. The grass level I feel could be maintained better as it's not uniform most of the times.
