Totally unexpected ambiance with several American flags proudly flying surrounded by religious scriptures and positive quotes, providing a happy feeling with the scent of coffee making my nostrils twitch. The owner was a jaggernaut of conversation and gave a brief overview of the pastry laid out on the counter next to the fresh baked empanadas in the warmer display. The stainless steel expresso machine was eyeballing me and of course I can never resist a good cup of coffee. Purchased a Lavazza dark creamy blended Colada. The dining room resembled a quaint Euro style living room. Took a small seat under an American Flag and was served my Colada by the owner. It was presented in a mini black porcelain cup with the word "espresso" multi stamped in white lettering, straddling a matching saucer. Sipped my tasty strong Colada while my eyes gazed at the mass signages and memorabilia causing a slight visual overload. The gender assigned clean bathroom had wrap around raised foil design molding against the burgandy and burnt orange walls providing a strong Euro decor. Oddly there was an office chair in the bathroom stall confusing the flow of the intended theme. Interesting choice of name for the unique café. I have eaten at Rejoice Café a few times and has always been tasty food and great service. The owner has always waited on us and this time a lady also assisted; perhaps his wife?, I've met his wife before from her position back in the kitchen, and cannot remember if this lady is his wife. The service felt personal and was attentive. I have always ordered one the daily specials, rather than from the regular menu, and today I ordered the chicken lunch special. The food was served to us within minutes. The chicken dish was flavorful and tasty. This Café is another restaurant located in a strip mall, but don't let that throw you off, the feel inside is a cozy type ambiance and I feel the pride the owner puts into his business. This is a hidden gem. It was my first time visiting but when I walked in, it was like I've been there before. The owners are so welcoming and took their time to explain their menu. I ended up changing my order last minute and they accommodated me with no issues and gave me a glass of juice while I wait. The ambience was clean, nice & calming. I went in for breakfast and walked out with an omelette and two empanadas. The Cuban and the Mexican and they were amazing. They were fully filled and I told them I didn't plan on eating it now but later and they gave me instructions on the best way to reheat it. I followed their instructions and it was amazing. What an absolute gem of a find (thanks to Yelp). We were looking for something a little unique and savory and/or sweet, not quite the traditional bakery but not a traditional restaurant (can you say lots of indecision in the group? ) Voila - Yelp led us to Rejoice Cafe. Despite walking in about ten minutes before closing, the owners (an absolutely adorable couple) allowed us to sit and eat in (a must for us actually as we were either my 80-some year old mom) which allowed us to sample three of their MANY varieties of handcrafted empanadas and (sadly just) one of their MANY homemade soups (carrot ginger honey). Mean-spirited Unfriendedly. I brought in my Maltese Service dog & we spilled her water dish. I offered to clean it up but owner got frantic & told me to leave. I wanted to order an empenada & coffee, asked if i could take it to go. He replied "I dont like you here, i will not serve you just leave!" I did but came back in a few minutes to apologize for what happened. He said "Just get out!". I was getting into my car, & he came out following me saying "God bless you" What a terrible witness & cruel testament to hospitality, kindness & friendship. An absolute gem of a place, not only for the wonderful owners (I challenge you to find more friendly people), but for some incredibly tasty and diverse food choices. One example that is very obvious is the empanadas. I think there were at least 20 varieties and in our group of five we tried 10 of them and there was not a loser in the bunch. My daughter got the American Breakfast, I had the Philadelphia and Sweet Corn. We also tried the Argentine and some others and we loved them all, both in the café and later heated up. My hubby got the salmon on toast and it was huge and delicious. Someone else got a regular scrambled eggs and toast breakfast and said it was perfect. My father got the quiche and said it was outstanding, but I want to talk to you about soup. I love soup, no matter the weather and I'm constantly frustrated at the lack of variety available, not to mention the quality when it is available. There were 12 different types of soup. TWELVE! There were four that looked great to me and Ozzi (the owner) suggested the chorizo with chickpeas and lentils and it was so delicious. The coffees and teas were great, and of course we had to try two pieces of the cake which were delicious. Lastly, I was so touched when they brought out an alfajor for my husband who was celebrating his birthday and who grew up in Argentina, it was such a lovely gesture. It is such a blessing to see a couple who love the Lord and want to honor him with everything they do thrive in this way. In short: This food can only be explained as high end homemade cuisines I've had this spot bookmarked for a while but I had no idea what I was getting into. My assumption: a cozy little cafe serving up decent food... reality : high quality delicious cuisine in a cozy environment . The shop is small, about 8 tables max. It has a very homey feel, almost as you are eating in a friend's dining room. It is owned by a retired couple. The wife does most of the cooking, and the husband Ozzie makes the empanadas/soups and serves guests. Captain Ozzie ( he used to be a sailor) is very friendly and can explain how each item on the menu is prepared. His wife studied the art of French cooking which is apparent in all of her dishes. The price of the food is pennies compared to the amazing flavor profiles on each dish. We ordered 3 of his delicious guilt-free empanadas. He doesn't fry them and is sure to drain the grease from the beef . I'm gonna go out in a limb and say they are the best baked empanadas in Broward. I ordered some to-go for my dad to try. Captain Ozzie was thoughtful and wrote re-heating instructions on the container for my dad! Everything was amazing . I love the pride they have in their cooking and how personable they are with their guests. They made us feel like family ... and they fed us like our family would as well. A little hidden on the plaza that is located at. It is not on the main side, but around the corner. Small quant dining area that looks like it has been outfitted with residential furniture rather than that "restaurant" feel furniture. It is very small. It only has a few tables. As soon as we sat, the owner brought us a menu with the day's dishes and explained that everything is cooked by his wife from scratch. We got a couple of empanadas. I loved my Argentinian meat one! I also ordered the Shepherds pie, came with a salad. Both were delicious. The salad had fresh fruit and candied nuts. Next time Im ordering the full salad. But the star of the show were certainly the deserts! I ordered their Rejoice cake, which is a take on a delicious Argentinian desert called Balcarce. Rejoice's version of is less heavy but just as delicious. Feels fresher. We also got mini alfajores and a chocolate ball that Is heaven on your mouth. The owner came by often to check on us. We learned later of his adventures from Argentina to Pennsylvania to Florida. He has only been open a little more than a year and a half and has had the good fortune to be on Yelp Top 50 list for 2 years in a row plus he was listed in a local newspaper article about top US restaurants. Of course, he honored our discount with check in. The restaurant is small and charmingly decorated. It's bright and airy inside. Parking is in the shopping center lot out front. There is a printed menu but there are also daily specials which he will recite to you. They had a number of soups. And course don't miss browsing in their bakery cases. I got a beef empanada. Added a cup of lentil soup (they had quite a few soups of the days available when we came). The soup was filling. The flaky pastry of the empanada was perfect. For dessert I ordered two madeleines. They look like cookies, but are small light spongy cakes. They were absolutely delicious! I could see just coming here for tea/coffee one afternoon and just having some of these, as well. My husband ordered one of their daily lunch specials. It was pappardelle pasta topped with a bolognese sauce. It came with a small cup of grated cheese.He said it was very good. We saw that they had passion fruit (maracuja) mousse in the case. It's my husbands favorite fruit and "flavor" ... so he had to get this. Working our way Broward's Top 50 and stopped here for lunch. A warm and inviting eatery with a most gracious host(owner) who invited us to sit at any open table. This spot has been on my radar for a few weeks. Who doesn't love empanadas? Especially Argentinian ones. This place fully lives up the hype and excellent reviews. The owners are some of the nicest folks I have ever met. I ordered: American breakfast empanadas - These were great. A lot of traditional breakfast flavor. Scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, hashbrowns and cheese. My only complaint is I wish it had less potato and more egg but it is still a great empanada. 4/5. Argentina empanada - Some of the best empanadas ever. Beef, onions, bell peppers. Packed with flavor and definitely better than any competitors in the area. 5/5 Philadelphia - This was like a Philly cheesesteaks empanada. A very cool and different idea. 5/5 Mexican - Ground beef, taco seasoning, beans and jalapeño. So good but obviously has a spicy kick. 5/5 They also have two vegetarian option empanadas. The Boca juniors (Mozzarella cheese an onion) and the Mateo (spinach Parmesan cheese and nutmeg). These are both delicious as well. 4/5 each. All of the empanadas I tried are outstanding. They're all baked and not fried. The ground beef options have excess fat drained out so you don't feel guilty about eating them. The couple make the empanadas fresh each day. Prices for them seem to range between 3-3.50. Definitely worth it. I also tried their spinach quiche and their latte. Both were great and nice portion for both. They also take the time to mark each empanada with the corresponding initials from their menu to avoid confusion for large orders. They've really taken the time to avoid any inconvenience or confusion for their customers. This will definitely be my go-to spot for empanadas. I look forward to trying more of their menu options. So me and my friends stumbled upon this "GEM" on our way to key west. Let me tell you, this is one of the reviews I was really looking forward to write for the place. Its hidden in a plaza but its a MUST TRY!!! Its owned by the sweetest and most hospitable couple I've ever came across. They freshly cook everything and the taste is AMAZING!!!!! Place is cozy and super warm. They treat you like family and very attentive to all their customers from beginning to the moment you leave the café. We tried their empanadas n OMG I've never had a better one! They have a wide variety and you cannot go wrong with any of them. My wife found Rejoice Cafe on Yelp and we decided to go for lunch. Rejoice has a small, intimate, setting. The couple that runs it, Ossie & Cris, pride themselves in offering home cooked meals and pastries, and great personal service. It is a charming place, one that can easily become a little hidden gem visited by regulars. As we sat in our table, we witnessed very friendly interaction between customers in different tables. One table had a customer that appeared to be working while enjoying his coffee. Again, Rejoice Cafe felt very cozy and welcoming. They offer a nice selection of empanadas, sandwiches, soups, salads and desserts. We started with a couple of empanadas that were as pretty as they were delicious. The edge of the empanadas had no only the name if the café imprinted on them, but also two letters that corresponds to the items on the menu. It makes identifying which empanada you are grabbing very easy. Next, I had the beef stew, and my wife had a Shepherds Pie and a salad. Then, for dessert I had the Guava Pie, and my wife had the Great Rejoice Cake. Everything was great, specially the Great Rejoicing Cake. As a first time visitor I had plenty of inquires ;) You can tell they love what they do & take pride & care in what they make/sell. The cafe serves breakfast and lunch. They have about a dozen different empanadas, various pastry treats and daily lunch specials. I wanted to try a variety of items from their menu so I selected an individual quick Lorraine, four different empanada flavors/fillings & two different sweet treats. As I was taking my goodies to go, Ossie was kind enough to provide heating instructions for the quiche and empanadas. Delightful customer service. Everything was fresh & well made. Below is a list of the sweet and savory treats in order of my preference.
