I had a bad experience at a nail salon in California with dip so I was against it. Here at this salon they gained my confidence back and reassured my nails would become healthy again. 5 stars!!! I started going here about a year and a half ago. They were really good and really affordable so I kept going. Something has happened in the last 4 months or so where they've gone down hill. They keep screwing up about every other time I go in there. It's like either they don't hear what you say or don't care. The french gel manicure I wanted got totally screwed up with white tips uneven and spots of the white on the pink part. This last time I told her I didn't want her to cut them I wanted them long and I prefer rounded tips. Next thing I know they're short and square after I spent WEEKS growing my nails out after the last bad experience. I'm done. read more

So I have been coming to this place pretty randomly over the past year or so (maybe about 5 visits). It's right down the street from my home, so it's super convenient. Initially, I was pleased with the place; it's super clean and modern compared to other nail shops in the area. But after my first few encounters, things went down hill. The customer service and attention to detail here could really use some serious work. The place is pretty open to walk-ins, but I've been turned away twice, which is ridiculous. And, I've had to have my GEL nails fixed three times (3 out of the 5 visits). Most recently, I went in to get a nail fixed on a Sunday after getting my gel nails done on a Friday; it was clear that the gel polish was not applied properly and there was no attention to detail (just sloppy work). I walked in and stated the issue and pretty soon one of the techs (believe her name is Kate) comes over with an attitude asking to see my hand. She came over like she was super annoyed with me and THEY are the ones who did not apply the gel properly (Alex is the one who did my nails initially). She does not ask how I'm doing or anything, then proceeds to scrap off the section that came off of my nail (usually the entire nail is fixed) and reapply the gel just to that section. Smh. Later I'm at home and notice that the gel polish is all bubbly and lifting up, within like 2 hours of getting it re-done (paid 40$ for that pitiful gel fill-in BTW). Lastly, I can never remember who does my nails normally, so when a new person ends up doing them, they always ask, "doesn't ____ usually do your nails?"---I've always found this question annoying, why does that even matter. They are super sloppy with the gel polish and very rude and unprofessional at times. I will not be returning. (gave two stars for my two pleasant visits, the cleanliness, and the decor). read more

this review is for pedicure ONLY. *note cash tips only* I called on a Saturday NEEDING a pedicure something fierce. Called in and made a reservation at 1:30 in the afternoon. Simple parking behind the building. I was greeted by a friendly gentleman who asked me to pick my color, before I could even choose I was met by (Jackie... I think) and offered hot tea or water then escorted through the manicure (front part of the business) through a smaller hall way and into a larger room with about 7 pedicure stations. Let me just say "wow." First off the manicure area was very bright and although small, seemed well spaced. Separating the two area (I'm assuming to avoid transfer of smells) there were two rooms on either side of the hall way, a private room on one side (assuming for waxing) and on the other there was a small room with two pedicure chairs and a t.v. (I'm guessing for couples who come in or someone who just wants some privacy.) Once in the pedicure area I noticed the pedicure chairs were the really nice ones, beautiful basins for foot soaking and adjustable massage chairs. Just like out front, the area was small but well spaced and decorated, nice "sky murals" on the walls, and an over all cheery/ relaxed area. Personally I noticed and appreciated the lack of T.Vs in the room (no one watches the t.v, anyways) and the music was soft enough that I was able to put in headphones and truly relax. The pedicure its self (just the simple pedicure) was nice she asked if there was anything she needed to know (a bonus if you've ever had your toes treated with acid) and asked if I needed anything, she then set about to doing her thing and occasionally asking if everything was "ok." She NEVER tried to push sales or anything on me, but when she noticed how relaxed I was during the leg massage she asked if I knew about the "upgrade" which provided more than the one minute massage (standard one minute for a pedicure). I actually took her up on the upgrade and was treated to what smelled like a mint exfoliation, a peach sugar scrub, lotion massage and overall just pampering. The whole thing was just over an hour, and I plan to make this a bi-weekly trip. Polish was ON POINT and at almost 2 weeks later, still no chipping (keep in mind i wear open toed shoes daily, I bike and paddle-board). read more

I hate to give a less than stellar review because this place is new, clean and the staff was so pleasant. Unfortunately, the lady doing my pedicure have me the equivalent of a deep paper cut on my toe when doing my $32 pedicure. Ouch! It really stung. Other than that, it was fine. Because the pace only opened 4 months ago, the massage chairs have not stopped functioning like in many salons. $32 for a basic pedicure was fair enough. This morning I stopped by the nail salon just to see what services they offered. Once I got there the staff was so friendly that I scheduled an appointment for my lunch break. I when I went back for my appointment again everyone was welcoming. I picked out my color, which was hard because they have so many to choose from. Then I was quickly seated to be serviced by Jenny. She was very friendly and gentle the entire time. I felt so comfortable with her that I even decided to get my eyebrows waxed at the last minute. The price was average for the area but the service and quality was well worth it! I will certainly be visiting again! read more

I used to LOVE this place. I've been going since it first opened. Some of their nail techs are awful (a few of the younger techs are very sloppy), but they have a couple of real gems, especially Joanna. Joanna, you are truly the best! However, whenever I go recently, whether it's the weekend or a week day, I get turned away. This is a walk-in style place, so they should staff appropriately in order to accommodate walk-ins. A 15 or even 30 minute wait is fine, but two or three hours?! That's a management problem. It's now happened enough that I've decided to write this review. Also, sometimes my manis start to wear off within a day or two, which is frustrating. I don't know if it's the quality of their base and/or top coats. The other nail salon up the street, Nail Spa, may not have the pretty decor or a huge color selection, but I can always get in, even when they're packed, and my manis last for a week and sometimes even longer. I wish Relaxed would take a page from their play book! I hope management sees this review and makes some changes. read more

I should have really taken heed to the bad reviews I read (or at the very least made my appointment with Holly whom other reviewers seem to rave about). My tech Cindy was very disappointing. I came in for a gel fill only because this place was convenient to where I lived and I was unable to get to my normal nail place. As soon as I sat down she rushed though my nails. There weren't a lot of people there and they only take appointments at the moment so I was confused. When she got to left hand it began to burn.. at first it was a tingling sensation and then it was a full on burning sensation in my index finger which then spread to all my fingers. I kept telling her that something wasn't right and my fingers were burning and she COMPLETELY disregarded what I was saying. She kept saying "no you're fine... I didn't file it too low"...ummm clearly you did do something because I didn't feel this prior to my visit. I have been getting gel manicures for over 6 months and have NEVER experienced this. Cindy's complete disregard and insensitivity was unacceptable and I will NEVER return here even though it's convenient . read more

On a weekday there was no wait. $65 for pedi + gel mani. Lan did a perfect job. The pedi area is more dimmer thus more relaxing than the typical overlit space normally found in salons. The shop was quite good when it opened; I think they put their best technicians there so the reputation would be established. Now they seem to have pulled the stars and left the trainees. Although still clean and with excellent music piped in, the service has declined badly. And yesterday was the worst! I had a mani-pedi. My toe was cut, the nails not trimmed properly. The polish did not stay on my hands for 24 hours because the manicurist gave a cursory swipe of my nails to remove cream but didn't get it all. I asked her to do it again and she said she got it all. She did not. After the manicure I sat at her station while she ATE and checked her phone. I expect that from the place across the street but not here. I went here for underarm waxing and I didn't like it. They use chocolate wax. The lady that did my waxing is like in a hurry that she didnt remove all the small hair. She's not good in plucking too. I was disappointed for $18. read more

Not really impressive. I stopped in for a much needed pedicure. Everyone was nice and they got me right in, however I was out the door about 20-25 minutes later. I thought I was paying for a bit more time in the chair and was looking forward to some relaxation, but she was very quick. Evidently there wasn't a top coat applied because after hours (and I mean multiple hours) in sandals, I put on some closed toed shoes and the polish was ruined. Wanted to love this place because my tech was nice, but it's been a day and TWO of my gel nails have peeled off/chipped. That is highly disappointing and not worth the money I paid. I made a 5 pm appointment on a Friday afternoon. Arrived right on time and was invited to sit down to wait. When I asked why I was waiting when it was time for my appointment, I was told it would only be a few minutes. I waited 10 minutes or so, then discovered that they were taking people who had arrived before me but did NOT have appointments. At that point, I left. I had the best experience at Relaxed Nail and spa. I got a flawless gel manicure from Lora and Holly gave me the most stunning eyelash extensions for my wedding. She was incredibly precise and they feel like my own eyelashes - no heaviness or excess. The procedure takes a long time (2+ hours) and worth every second. As a person who is accustomed to $35 mani/pedi combo, I was sticker shocked at the price of the gel manicure ($35). However, from what I have heard, you can't get anything much less expensive here in DC. The manicure was well done, the environment pleasing and sanitary. I went in Saturday for a gel mani and normal pedi + eyebrow and lip wax. Nail tech and waxer was Jenny. Three nails completely chipped off the mani by Wednesday and now it's Thursday and my pedi is chipped. I was told the gel would last 2 weeks by the nail tech. Waxing was just ok. Eyebrows a little too thin. Unfortunately, this was not worth the $83 charged. The quality has gone down over time. I've been probably 5 times in total since it opened. The first two visits were 4/5 stars. It's too bad. read more

I have frequented this nail salon about once a month since its opening. The technicians are very sweet and most speak excellent english. They are always good to fix a smudge and take their time doing a flawless polish. The space is clean!!! Very clean, new and shiny. The pedicure chairs are also very comfortable and clean too. The price is not cheap, but who is cheap in Chevy Chase! They will discount your services if you pay with cash. The only down side is their scheduling. On several occasions, i have called days in advance to make an appointment for a busy Saturday, only to arrive and find they did not write my appointment in the book, causing me to have to wait or cancel entirely. This is really frustrating and their customer service makes no accommodation for their mistakes. Wish the management could get their act together on scheduling! read more

I visited Relaxed Nails & Spa for the first time yesterday and was very happy with my experience. They have a full-time receptionist who greets you at the door and handles payment, which I thought was very professional and unusual compared to other, similar nail places. The salon is small but very well-appointed. Everything had its place and even though it was full of staff and patrons, it didn't feel crowded. The front room is for manicures and was very well-lit and fresh smelling. They had nice music on -- a mix of instrumentals and Rat Pack jazz like Frank Sinatra. A quick glimpse at the back room showed a low-lit, relaxing space for pedicures. I was very impressed with the incredibly large selection of polish colors -- probably the most I've ever seen! They had one large wall panel full of polishes *just* for gel alone. In addition, each wall had shelves stacked full of color-coded and numbered regular nail colors. My manicurist was Kim, who was very professional and friendly. She was respectfully quiet, giving me time to relax. The price for a gel manicure was $35, which I think is average for this area. All in all, I was very happy with this experience and look forward to my next visit. read more

I was so excited when this place opened. It looks great, they have amazing massage chairs, great decor, and its super convenient. I first rushed in for a polish change which they expeditiously accommodated. It lasted about 5 days. Then my mom and I went in for mani-pedis and I couldn't have been more disappointed. Not only did the lady doing my pedi NOT scrub my calluses off, but she was indignant when i called her out about it. And then the "foot massage" was really just her touching/poking at my feet a couple times. When she announced she was done, and I responded with surprise at how bad the pedi was (lest I forget to mention my cuticles were still a mess), her colleague who was working on my mom said, "Oh each person does their style of massage". Oh really? I expected much better professionalism and a certain level of standards. My mani only lasted a day and a half before chipping badly. My mother said it was one of the worst experiences in a nail salon ever and her nails got chipped after about 30 hours too. read more
