I waited over a week to write this review because I wanted time to think clearly after the emotions have worn off. I called ahead to confirm they had availability for a regular manicure and went in April 4th at 5:30pm. I was told to sit at the only free (not clean) station with a chair that had the rotating fan blowing directly into my face (the base of the fan was 2 feet away from my chair). I said I only wanted a regular manicure (not gel or acrylic) and it was like bam, she knew she would be getting a smaller tip because it's a cheaper service. Wow. She rushed through the entire polish job and waited until AFTER base, two coats, and top coat to bring me a fan.... a weak little dollar store toy fan because apparently no one uses regular polish anymore so all the polish and fans (basically anything that's not gel) is from 7 years ago or something. The biggest SCAMMY activity is that when I went to pay, she said the service was $25. I asked her if it was for the basic manicure with no tip yet. She said yes. I showed her the website with the price being $20 and she said that it was to "make up for the rising cost of rent". I once again pointed out that in real time, the salon owned website said $20. She said she couldn't do anything because the owner wasn't there. Honestly, I should file something with the bank because I want them to investigate with my time stamped screen shots of their website prices after they charged me an itemized price for a service that is not what they advertise. As for the QUALITY of their work? LOOK AT THE BUBBLES. Their nail technician looked at the bubbles in my nails and thought "yup, that looks right". The dents are on me because I was trying to get my card (since I brought $25 cash for the service and tip, but that was for their fake online $20 price) and the girl watched me struggle with my wallet after I explained to her why I only had cash and wasn't ready to use my wet nails to get my card out of my cardholder. Cool, enjoy the extra $5 you made on that transaction at the cost of behaving like charlatans and thieves. read more

Edit: they gave me a refund so at least there's that.. Only giving 2 stars because the first two times I went I had a good experience. However, this last time will make it so I never go back. They were 50 minutes late for my appointment with no apology. Just a thanks for waiting one of our techs had an emergency. Which wouldn't have made a difference seeing as they had me and two other people waiting. I went with my mom and they started her right away but had me sitting in cold water for 50 mins. The woman who did my mom's pedicure finished my moms then started mine. Neither of us got a massage. We were in such a rush to leave after since they were so behind I barely looked at my toes. But looking today they look AWFUL. It hasn't even been 24 hours. read more

BEWARE!!! Do not be fooled by this salon! There are a lot of nail salons in San Mateo and they are honest, but I was totally misled and deceived by this salon.I originally came in and asked for a gel pedicure, which I was quoted at $55. The staff then offered me a "pedicure with massage" for $50 instead. It sounded like a better deal, but it was a total bait-and-switch. I told the technician I only wanted plain red or blue polish and asked to see the color book. She pulled out a completely different book and just kept saying, "Don't worry, I take care of you."When it was time to pay, my bill was suddenly $70. They never disclosed their add-on fees upfront. It turns out the $50 package didn't include any nail polish at all, so they tacked on a hidden $15 regular polish fee at the register. They also charged me $5 to remove my old gel without ever mentioning the cost beforehand.A reputable salon should always be honest, straightforward, and disclose fees before doing the work. I won't be coming back. There are a lot of nail salons downtown that are more honest! If you must go, ask for the exact price upfront, and if they make any recommendations, ask if there is an extra fee. I hope they will be more honest with you! read more

I continued to ask nicely for her to fix the tips since they were not how I wanted, but she seemed to be irritated when I asked for adjustments. Either way, the quality was not worth the large price. Really upset since these are my birthday nails and I even showed a sample picture beforehand. On the bright side, my pedicure turned out well. Update: 1+ year later of being a loyal consistent customer. I used to love this place but after over a year of coming to this place consistently and working with the same nail tech for over a year i've decided that today was my last day. My last 3 visits felt like my service was rushed but today was Very Bad. 1. Today was the 2nd time my nail tech didn't attach the massager inside the water for my pedicure. I had to remind her again to put it inside. Is it an extra charge? if not then why are you not attaching it? 2. I get the same service every single time for over a year and i don't understand how she forgot to put wax and massage my feet today(she apologized and said she forgot). Even-though I reminded her at the end she seems like she was rushing and like she doesn't care so I told her it's ok, I rather pay and leave. 3. Conversations between the techs are so LOUD. I work all week and come here for relaxation: i couldn't relax because their talking to each other like their in their home laughing and talking loud and forgetting I'm a guest. I-was the only guest there and they all see me all the time but that shouldn't matter. 4.The Shop is not the cleanest. 5. Paying with Zelle and not getting an itemized receipt at the end of service is not professional. Please get a proper card payment machine for your business establishment so we can see the itemized price of what we are paying for. 6. Having your headphones on and Watching a tv show while doing my nails is not professional. Although she didn't give me a massage or wax on my feet I was still charged the same as I usually do. How? Tiffany is on vacation and I believe that's their manager, I wonder if that's the reason why everyone was different? Word of Advice: Never get so comfortable with a customer that you start doing whatever you want...the customer is still paying your for the service. Disappointed. I did a walk in and like many people mentioned it gets so busy and it's a long wait to get helped. That being said the staff is SUPER apologetic. It's hard to decide what rating to give because the quality is there but there's balance with wait time. I'm going to try to make a reservation next time to see how it goes! I had to soak off my gel, acrylic nails and they charged me an additional $10 for buffing my nails. What a rip off! The pedicures were nice and came with a 15 minute massage but they did a poor job exfoliating my feet, which were really bad from wearing sandals. I won't return. read more

The women here are fantastic! I called beforehand to ask if they had time for a walk-in. They said they did so I stopped by. I've been going to the same nail shop for years now (in the sunset) but the quality at that salon has gone downhill. I've been looking for a new shop and I couldn't be happier that I found this place. The woman who did my nails took her time (which I was more than fine with to get results that look neat and precise). One of my natural nails broke so I had to get an acrylic tip put on. The woman doing my nails said she didn't feel confident enough to make it perfect so she asked for help from a coworker which I really appreciated. This is the best manicure I've ever gotten! The polish was placed extremely close to the cuticle and evenly. She was extremely detail-oriented and didn't let me leave until every single aspect of my manicure was perfect. Cannot recommend this place enough! Paid $45 for previous gel polish removal and application of new gel polish (not including tip). read more

A waste of my time, I could have went somewhere else. They should have been honest. During the time I was there 2 ladies showed up for their appointments, they had to wait as well. I went to this location because it was near my son's school and had extra time. Bad move. I should have recognized the red flag when I went in and no one would answer my question on how much a fill is until after they sat me down at a station. They wanted $55 for just a fill with solid color/no design. $55!!! That's $15 more than my normal salon charges ($31 with tip). - Their tactic of getting me at a station first worked and I stayed. Kathy who did my nails was very nice and thorough. She skipped at least three steps my normal salon does but figured everyone is different. The nails looked fine when I left. The very next day my thumb nail polish chipped! This has never happened to me before and have been much harder on my hands. - The salon itself is not the best. When I walked in it wreaked of smoke and remained the whole time. Idk if there was a backdoor open and someone kept smoking nearby but it hung in the air. The decor would be cute if it was kept up but it wasn't and made it look bad. It would be better just to take down. There is a random 'floating' sink you wash your hands in afterwards which is fine had the lady who was not working kept her BARE FEET rested up on it almost the whole time I was there. Disgusting. - To sum up, Kathy was very nice but I will not return to that salon due to quality, price and bare feet where there shouldn't be! read more

The shape was horrible! I pointed out several times that it was rounded on the edges and my nails are coffin shaped and square 3.
