I've gone to three yoga sessions at The Camp with Tracy and DJ Crisanto, and each time has been a…read moregreat experience. Tracy is an outstanding instructor. Every session introduces something new, which keeps the classes engaging and fun. I've practiced yoga for a few years, and one thing that really stands out is there is always a new stretch or pose. She creates a welcoming environment and encourages everyone to work at their own pace while still challenging themselves. I always leave class feeling better than when I arrived. If you're looking for a knowledgeable, encouraging, and engaging yoga instructor, I highly recommend checking out Tracy's classes at Explore Yoga.

Tracy is a nice person and her husband seems like a good guy, but this studio is built for a very…read morespecific type of clientele, and I am not it. To provide some baseline context: I already run a high-friction, highly disciplined physical routine. I train 6x a week (push/leg/dynamic movement/pull/leg/dynamic movement), do Zone 2 cardio 5x a week, and Zone 5 cardio 1x a week. I'm 38 and can still run a 6-minute mile. On top of that, I work three jobs. I do not have issues with "malware" hijacking my system, I have plenty of energy, and I actively seek out the hard work. (As an aside, this is a bad analogy anyway because our biological systems are not based on restrictive, narrow-scope Von Neumann architecture; they operate much closer to an analog computer system). Nevertheless, the core point is that analogy is inherently flawed because it is trying to force a problem to be something it wasn't, and then using a solution for it that fundamentally doesn't work. I recently became interested in the physical concept of emptiness and wanted to deepen my understanding of it to uncover some spiritual blind spots. I thought yoga would be a natural pivot. I was wrong. Through attempting to do yoga here, I concluded that this is no longer what I want to do. But I also realized that more thoughts and more ideas are not bad--philosophy is not bad. Being lost is just a transitive state. If you keep going, keep reflecting, anchor yourself correctly, and stay humble, you will derive a lot of meaningful wisdom from it. Yoga itself is, and always was, a giant philosophical framework long before it was adapted into the modern version with a physical side. My point is that the philosophical side absolutely has its purpose, because everything we do comes from our thoughts. Pros: --- - She did help me improve some shoulder mobility. - The studio itself is nice, well-maintained, and has a very casual, relaxing atmosphere (which is a pro for most people, even if it wasn't the intensity I was looking for). - She has years of experience with yoga and clearly carries weight and presence in her reputation. - I appreciate the "keep your ego at the door" sign on the front porch. Cons: --- - She treated me like I lacked the willingness to put in the work (my physical receipts of silent dedication are linked below). I took great offense to this, but I had to swallow it and concede multiple times. - Refused to even look at my handstand. When I asked for help analyzing my structural weaknesses, she bypassed it entirely and pivoted to teaching a headstand (which is not a mechanical prerequisite for a handstand). It was a major red flag--it felt like she either lacked the technical experience to coach it or simply assumed I wasn't physically capable of it. - She had absolutely no clue what an L-sit is, which is a massive mechanical blind spot for anyone teaching bodyweight leverage. - Our learning styles fundamentally didn't align. Even though the environment is casual, the instruction itself felt like a one-way street. There was very little room for actual mechanical dialogue, feedback, or collaboration on my specific goals--you are just expected to follow her script. - The biggest deal-breaker of all: The background music (while soft) and her overarching philosophy highlighted a fundamental mismatch. I prefer to focus in silence on how my body internally reacts to a position--this is the raw physical feedback I use to reflect on later. She focuses heavily on breath work. To me, that kind of breath work is an active, proactive/reactive process; it completely misses the true, passive "emptiness" (Yin) I was looking to experience. - I also had to navigate and verbally de-escalate interactions with her overly enthusiastic husband. - To top it off, she attempted a tone-deaf upsell for another session without realizing our session had essentially failed. If you are someone with absolutely zero physical background looking for basic stretching, or just a tourist seeking generic pain relief in a highly curated, relaxing environment, this studio will probably work for you. But if you are looking to explore true emptiness, get away from the commercial distractions, and you already operate at a high level of physical integrity, look elsewhere--or at the very least, proceed with caution. I'm not really one to write reviews, but I thought I would share my experiences at Purple Yoga (all…read morelocations) for anybody considering starting yoga, finding a new studio, or finding the right studio. Long story short: I started yoga at the end of April this year on a whim (saw one of my friends post a story on Instagram doing hot yoga) and tried out different studios in the area and landed on Purple at the beginning of mid-May, and have now taken 34 classes since then. I have a roster of favorite teachers that I highly recommend. Alex: adds fun, light banter to each class, making yoga approachable, comes to each student (when he can) to show corrections and is proactive with the class. Mike: a new teacher at Purple, an excellent teacher who does the flow with his students, repeating each step with us until we get the final flow, it's easy to see progress with his class. Jamol: energetic, nice flow with his class, makes adjustment if requested, and I always come feeling like I've learned something. Joe: the owner of the studio, of course I had to try his class. Excellent teaching skills, making adjustments, show the right postures and poses, tough class but I definitely feel improvement after I take them. Joe, if you're reading this, please I implore you to increase the number of your classes during the week (Saturday, Sunday, Friday would be nice lol) so I can take at least one (won't be able to in the future as I'll have to head to the office the days you teach in a few months). Teachers I want to try (more of) but haven't had much of a chance yet: Danny (I've only taken him once but he was excellent), Chloe, Alley, Sahara, Phoung, Danielle, and Emily. I'm sure all the teachers are wonderful though! Facilities: clean, comfortable, spacious, and parking is aplenty. Staff: Very welcoming, unpretentious, and friendly. I had a poor experience with another studio about the staff and felt very unwelcome, which sets a bad tone for the visit, so Purple has been a nice change from that. Scheduling: Their schedule is great, early morning classes before work, and classes throughout the day on Saturday and Sundays. The scheduling app is convenient and quick. (One point of feedback: I wish the app had a Google Calendar option so I can send it to myself on Google instead of just Apple.) If there's any feedback I could give, I would love it if the classes have some sort of cirriculum that state which poses/flow we're going to do so we as students can get a better comprehensive idea of what we're doing in each class. There's so many asanas out there, I would love to know what I've been covering so far. At the moment, I bought some yoga textbooks to go mark down what I've done personally but I don't necessarily know what flows we've been doing. Overall: I recommend Purple if you're looking a clean, comfortable, place to start or practice your yoga journey!

Class description and actual class did not feel quite the same. I usually always sweat moving in a hot yoga class... not one droplet - not sure if the thermostat wasnt working but it did not feel hot. The instructor was nice but felt very new. Demos were lackluster, cues empty, and lacked a flow. There were 4 of us in class and somehow i might have gotten one interaction. I left feeling maybe a stretch at best.

The movements may look simple, but you really feel every muscle working and it gives such a great full-body workout. I also love that the class is welcoming for all levels, even beginners.
