Although I can't comment on the quality of care, as I have only visited there twice-(once alone and…read moreagain with my husband and son), we were so impressed with what we saw there, including meeting the owner, who actually lives on site. It is so beautiful and high-quality in what it offers in terms of restaurant options, beautiful gardens, lovely rooms with high ceilings, impeccable furnishings, and cleanliness. And the people are so attentive and kind that I'm assuming the care is excellent. Tiffany was kind enough to give us two full tours, and the second time sent me off with a sweet bottle of wine. In appearance and ambience, it compares to a five star hotel, which provides live music, art classes and a small library, to boot! If it does ever happen that one of us needs extended care, this place would be our top choice.

My wife lives in the second-floor Haven - advanced Alzheimer's - community. We have yet to meet a staff member who is not competent and courteous and caring. My wife has reached the point where she has become wheelchair bound. The staff quickly assembled the chair I bought for her. There were difficulties in doing so, but they persisted instead of letting responsibility fall back on me. I greatly appreciate what they did. I am not the least bit mechanically inclined; I have trouble setting my watch. More importantly, they trained her in wheelchair use and safety, always patient, encouraging, and friendly. In my own case, I was recently informed that a room will become available in early April that will be substantially less expensive than the one I now occupy, and I will move into it then. My point is that the Kensington realizes how expensive memory care and assisted living can be and strives to ease the financial burden on its residents whenever the opportunity presents itself. I am also compelled to mention the first-class medical monitoring and care that followed my return to the Kensington after two weeks in the hospital recovering from colon cancer surgery. The Kensington's quality is self-evident. I regularly meet new residents whose families had originally placed them in a different local facility and then later decided to move them here. If you have a loved one who needs residential care, I cannot strongly enough recommend the Kensington. Gary Hartzell

There is 24/7 nursing support and all staff on site, whether direct care or not, are all trained in dementia care. The environment is clean, attractive and comfortable. There are 4 floors and are arranged by residents' needs and cognitive level. My mom seems very content to be amongst her peers, chit chatting, doing activities, going on outings and dining together. I'm so grateful for Silverado and all the staff. It has turned out to be the perfect place for my mom. She is safe, engaged, fits right in amongst her peers and has the support of staff who understand what she is going through. I'm actually not sure what we would have done had it not been for Silverado, and being right here, so close to home.

When I realized I could no longer…read moresafely care for my mom at home, I started a deep dive into researching memory care communities. I am so grateful my search led me to Silverado Beach Cities. I felt seen and supported the moment I walked in. The two main reasons that I chose Silverado for my mom are 1) the staff and 2) the Nexus program, which is geared toward high-functioning residents. In addition to providing excellent care for my mom, the Nexus staff also makes time to support me. Everything about the decision to move my mom was difficult, but the one thing I never doubt is that she is getting the best possible care and support. A massive shout-out to Peter, Campbell, Jessica, Eli, Clara, Lourdes, Teresa, Nancy, Noc, Jazmin, Ana, Lana, Laurie, Elizabeth, Doreen, Jean, and all of the staff. And, of course, Honey, the resident bulldog.

In fact, she told me to call back on a Thursday, when there would be someone who could discuss with me the possibility of utilizing a special discount subsidy that could be applied, depending on my loved one's financial resources. However, when I appeared earlier this year, 2024, I was met with two upper-level directors who actually suggested that perhaps when I called last year, that I actually called a nearby apartment building named "Harbor Terrace" instead. I realized right away that I was being given the brush-off. The fact of the matter of is that these smiling ladies had no intention of assisting me with housing, be it assisted or independent living. At the end of the conversation before I left, the director went to her office and came back with a cute cookie lollipop and thanked me for visiting after telling me that most residents there have family members assisting them with their monthly rent expense. She was telling me something I already knew from years ago while checking into assisted and independent living arrangements in core Los Angeles. Overall, I am rating Harbor Terrace Assisted and Independent Living three (3) stars, and that's generous - - because I like the setup, know the neighborhood , and I know of people who live there because I see them in the neighborhood and talk with them. Without a doubt, I was given the brush-off when I appeared because I am a person of color.. and it was obvious that there was no desire to attract me or my loved as residents at Harbor Terrace. Unfortunate for them.
