Sub-par customer service. I visited the store and selected an item that was sitting on top of a dust bag. The next day I returned and purchased that same item. When I completed the purchase, the staff refused to provide the dust bag that had been under the item the day before. Their explanation was that the dust bag now had a different item ticket placed inside it. This response made little sense. The dust bag originally matched the item my wife purchased and had been displayed with it. Instead of resolving the issue in a reasonable way, the staff focused only on the technicality of the ticket inside the bag and declined to provide a dust bag which goes to the item purchased. An offer was also made of the same brand dust bag but come to find out they did not have another. So the offer could not stand. For a store that sells luxury products intended to be kept and protected in dust bags, refusing to provide one over something so minor reflects poor customer service and a lack of flexibility. A simple solution would have been to provide the dust bag which matches the brand. The experience left me feeling that the focus was on rigid internal process rather than basic customer care. Would not recommend or return. Way better finds in LA. read more

I have never experienced such an unprofessional and disrespectful interaction while shopping before I came to renaissance fine consignment. I visited the store because I was genuinely interested in purchasing a luxury item, and before making such a significant purchase, I respectfully asked about the store's authentication process. Rather than receiving a clear explanation, one of the sales associates became immediately defensive. When I asked how the specific piece I was considering had been verified as authentic, I was told only that it had been authenticated by "the girl in the back." This vague response did not provide the transparency I expected. She then brought out a different item and explained that it was counterfeit, despite that fact never having been disclosed until I began asking questions. Instead of reassuring me, this only raised further concerns about the authentication process. Given the uncertainty, I politely thanked her for her time and explained that I was no longer comfortable proceeding with the purchase. Rather than respecting my decision, the interaction escalated. I was told that my friends and I needed to leave because we were "snobs" and that she did not have to tolerate our "childish bullshit." As a customer, I found this treatment completely unacceptable. Asking reasonable questions about the authenticity of a luxury item should never be met with hostility or personal insults. I left feeling embarrassed and disappointed by the lack of professionalism and customer service. Regardless of whether a purchase is made, every customer deserves to be treated with courtesy and respect. read more

I've passed by Renaissance Fine Consignment several times on my visits to State Street. There are always good-looking clothes in the window display, and I remember going in once to investigate a particularly pretty dress, only to find it was both very expensive and a size or two too small. When I walked by the place a couple weeks ago, I happened to have a fancy occasion coming up, and nothing to wear for it in my closet. I decided to go in and try my luck. Renaissance is super nice, with clothes and accessories from a huge variety of high-end labels. There were, conveniently, several racks of evening dresses, arranged by size along two walls. I started browsing with my husband and kids in tow (my five-year-old asking why we'd coming into such a boring place), then sent them away when I realized I had struck paydirt. My husband obligingly took them to McConnell's, giving me the full half hour I needed to shop. I tried on a bunch of dresses with help from the super sweet women on staff, who not only hung my massive pile in the changing room but gave me a bit of guidance when I asked. I ended up buying two dresses: a strapless black YSL and a teal V-neck Dolce & Gabbana. They weren't cheap, and who knows how old the were, but they were beautiful pieces in like-new condition, for like 80-90% off retail. I also seriously considered buying a vintage Thierry Mugler cape dress, but it was $800 and made of heavy black velvet, not quite right for a summer event. There is some chance I come to regret leaving it behind. I wore the YSL dress on a red carpet this week, and I can honestly see the quality of the silk and construction in the photos. I have another event in a couple weeks, and I plan to wear the Dolce & Gabbana. Renaissance saved me from either hours of scrolling through the Real Real or some seriously desperate last-minute shopping. I love my purchases, and I'd definitely go back to shop for another special occasion. read more

I walked into this store today with my mom as a nice pre birthday treat and from the moment I walked in I was met with a horrible welcoming. No hello, dirty looks, and silence. Great consignment store with helpful staff. The only annoyance is I was charged for a shopping bag when I spent over $500. When I said I already had a bag and didn't need one, just refund me for the bag, I was told they could not. If the store needs to charge customers for shopping bags, perhaps they should raise prices to cover that cost. read more

Gorgeous selection of clothing, shoes and accessories but some of the most horrendous customer service I've ever encountered. My daughter and I were there earlier today and the sales employees were extremely rude and condescending. Never will I ever set foot in that store again for that reason. Of course we all know that decent customer service is a remnant of the past, but for some absurd reason these girls went out of their way to try and make us feel unwelcome, as they could barely communicate with us. So incredibly unprofessional and unnecessary as well as being utterly pathetic, but no doubt par for the course. They have a beautiful selection of both vintage and current styles in handbags, clothing, jewelry and more. They are a little pricey but I guarantee you will be happy with your purchase. This place was laughably horrible LOL First of all, it's really dirty inside, almost like their employees have never once swept the floor or bothered to wipe the display cases up front. Hair on the floor, fingerprints on all mirrors... idk, just gross. For a place that "specializes in consignment" of other people's designer items, you'd think they would have some kind of cleaning routine for the store. Second issue I noticed right away was the fact that most of their clothing was insanely marked up in price. To the point where I was actually shocked. I also noticed a section up front that had fake designer items... that were also insanely priced. Is this section purposely fake? Because isn't it illegal to purposely sell these types of items? Even if not, i mean... if you're a consignment store that encourages people to bring in their own designer items, this is a *really* bad look LOL Who would want to entrust their authentic items with this store? I would literally never. The last thing I noticed while I was there was the way one of their employees was talking to another customer. When i had walked in, it was a weekday, it was totally dead, there were only me and this one other customer. This other customer had gone toward this little door in the back of the store, which I assume is their "buy counter" for consigning things. Because it was so dead and quiet in the store, I could hear their entire conversation and it was *so rude omg* The store employee said her name was "hollis" or "holland" or something like that. She was so rude to that customer, i felt really bad for her. Hollerrs (or whatever her name was) had the nerve to tell that nice lady that her items were fake and therefore couldn't be sold in their store (I was cracking up to myself because uhhhhh half this store is fake stuff). This employee went on and on, super rude to that person and eventually that person left the store without saying much. I left shortly after too. Enjoy having zero real customers, i guess lol This place is, again, really laughable. How do you expect anyone to want to consign with you if this is how you're treating people, you never clean, and you sell fake stuff? Literally horrible, bye. read more

They sold me fake Gucci earrings, a fake LV shirt and claimed all of it was real. I specifically asked the owner about these Gucci earrings because they were being sold for $400. It's now cost me another $65 to authenticate. Of course all sales are final. I wouldn't trust ANYTHING FROM THIS STORE. Scammers. It's worth checking out while on state street. I wouldn't say the staff is exceptional friendly but they are nice enough. You can find some fun vintage pieces in here. Lots of designer labels. I was surprised by just how much designer clothing and accessories they had. The front windows were engaging and well designed. I am a size 12/14 so I found clothing sizes to be limited for myself. There are many issues with this place, but let's first go through the problems I can accept... problems that wouldn't have caused me to go out of my way to leave a negative Yelp review for a small business. Dirty merchandise, disorganized racks, filthy store. The racks are packed to a point where it's not shoppable. Like I said, these are operation failures that would discourage me from going there again myself, but it is not something that truly ruined the experience and made me have a bad day. It is the interaction that I had with the owner/manager at the store named Holland that caused me to leave this review. Perhaps she just had a tough day, but it doesn't excuse the way she treated me. I simply asked her a few questions regarding the authenticity of several items, as I personally own the exact same items in different colorways and hers seemed inauthentic as major details were different than mine. Just for the record, mine were purchased new from authorized retailers. Holland went ahead and started touting her own expertise in this field and rudely dismissed my concerns as me not having as much experience as her. Her superiority complex and condescending tone in speaking with me was highly inappropriate, and makes me wonder if the fact that I'm Asian American had anything to do with it. The experience was so negative that I put down all the items I was holding and immediately walked out. After this experience, I thought about how I or anyone else can trust a store like this when they're so reluctant to even take a closer look at an item when customers question its authenticity. I do not trust anything this business sells as they sell very cheap and obvious fake merchandise like super cheap bulk t-shirts with iron-on Chanel logos. I stop in each time I'm in Santa Barbara, about 2-3 times per year and I find this store to be really hit and miss. The younger sales people are generally much friendlier than the owner and older women employees. The store is really crowded and their selection varies each time. My last experience didn't go well as I wasn't asked if I needed help so when I went to the counter, I wasn't surprised to find that there was no one to assist me. I understand that there is high end fashion but I could shop elsewhere with much better service. I don't know if I'll continue to give them my business. read more

Renaissance Fine Consignment was founded back in '97 and offers a large collection of clothing selection (particularly designer wear), hats, jewelries, handbags, and shoes. There is also a little sales section in the back where some items are at a slight discount. The place is very antique-y, with art pieces and home decor spread about. The SAs are a bit inattentive, but lets you mosey around without any bother. By the cashier, there is a rack of designer wear, but most, if not all, pieces were not at deep discounts as a consignment usually is. I did find a pair of Hermes boots that were priced at $150, which I thought was pretty decent :P If you live around the area and come here often, I'm sure if you browse enough, you might find something exquisite and lovely. Just know that the sizes are extremely limited, and it's basically luck! Be sure to check out the piece, as most of the tops seem to be stained with foundation and/or lipstick :O I know that this particular shop prides in themselves of carrying a large selection, but also one-of-a-kind pieces as well. I found Renaissance Fine Consignment and was pleasantly surprised by all of my great finds. I would consider my style to be funky, yet chic. And I was able to walk out with several super funky skirts that I can't wait to rock. My whole shopping experience was fun and pleasant. The team was extremely helpful and attentive. What more can you ask for when you're on a quick get away trip? I highly recommend and definitely will be back when I'm in Santa Barbara. read more

Extremely displeased with the customer service and overall shopping experience. I had a formal event coming up and heard this store had a great selection of formal attire, which I was excited to see but extremely disappointed by my shopping experience. I entered the store and not until what seemed to be half an hour later I was greeted and approached by the tall brunette lady wearing a tutu who was extremely RUDE! I continued my search for a formal dress and noticed everything was astronomically overpriced! A younger girl of Asian descent helped me start a room and was very helpful. I asked the younger gal about the prices being so high and she told me to look on the Real Real, I was pleased to receive the helpful tip! On the other hand the tall brunette continued to give me bizarre looks and gossip behind the counter, this made me so uncomfortable I had to leave. Almost every time I'm in the area I stop by Renaissance's to see what's new and look for some high end goodies at unbeatable prices!! The staff is always wonderful to me and who ever I drag in with me. Vicky and Holland are always welcoming, extremely attentive and accommodating. I love the selection of luxury hand bags and jewelry they have. Some items they get in go quick so you have to be fast if you see something you like. The few pieces I have bought there are well worth the investment and time spent in the store. I send people in there all time! I love this place for quality consignment goods! Let me start off by saying that I would have easily given this vintage store a 5/5 stars if it weren't for the tactless and inconsiderate manner in which the sales clerk treated my mother. We were drawn to this store just by driving past. The window displays were lavish, and well designed. Upon stepping inside, I instantly was impressed by the clothing I saw inside, and the beautiful decor. I selected several items, and went to try them on in a stately dressing room. The first thing I tried on was an incredible $250 sparkly black portrait collar Ralph Lauren skirt and jacket set. It was a perfect fit, and my mother insisted it needed to be mine. We had been out all day... eating, drinking, and shopping. My mom requested to use the store restroom. Although the sales clerk knew we intended to buy the set, she rejected my mother's urgent need, sending a handicapped costumer two doors down to use another restroom. This clerk, who told me she only works once a week, informed my crippled mother that they did not have a public restroom for her to use. Even after my mom said that she would not be able to purchase the $250 set until after she goes to the bathroom, the callous woman gave her a unsympathetic, condescending, smile and told her she MUST use the restroom two shops down. The other associate, the store owner (I assume) did not intervene. After hearing this transpire, I was furious. When my mom returned, I pleaded with my her not to buy the set. She ended up buying the set for me anyways, but the pathetic customer service I witnessed here will not soon be forgotten. Furthermore, I am getting married soon in Santa Barbara. I was considering having my mom buy her dress at this store... maybe even having my bridesmaids and aunt shop here, as well. After this interaction, I can see myself demanding they go elsewhere. For a luxury store, they sure treat their patrons like garbage. read more

I'm a resident of Santa Barbara for over 40 years and shop here for accessories and that occasional item to complete an outfit. Needless to say ; I've shopped here for years. I walked in the store today (early a.m.) and was the only person in the store. I wasn't greeted, but, that's OK since I know my way around the store. As I started to make my way around to the accessories I couldn't help but feel uneasy, as the lady in the bad 1980's plaid skirt with the green clown jacket combined with motocycle boots was following me throughout the store - all the while never asking if I needed help selecting an item or two. This uncomfortable situation continued for 15-20 minutes - which was the time needed for me to choose an item to purchase. I brought the item to the counter and was ignored until I placed the credit card on the display case. By that time, the clown outfit passed me off yo her poorly trained staff member that took my card, didn't say a word, and asked if I wanted a bag for the item after running my credit card through. I guess they wanted to ensure the credit card wasn't stolen. I won't be coming back! read more

I procrastinated until Thursday to get a dress for a holiday party on Saturday. I don't like shopping for cloth, especially shopping with two kids. Renaissance staff Holland finally ended my almost 4 hour shopping journey up and down State Street by recommending a rather colorful form fitting wrap dress. I would never pick something like that off the rack, but it actually looked pretty darn good. Wrap dress plus a vintage necklace together for under $50. Today I walked into this store and found it beautifully organized as though it was a high end boutique, unfortunately, did not get greeted as we came in. My adult son and I approached the shoe department. As I admired the shoes I noticed a lady with a little dog talking to one of the workers and she whispered to her as though she was worried that we should be "looked after". The worker said loudly " no, they are alright". I felt very uncomfortable with that comment. Were they worried since I am a woman of color? Why was there an assumption that we were NOT alright? Feeling frustrated I said to both ladies, "yes we are alright". The worker simply said "okay. ".I will never step into this stuffy and unfriendly--racist??? thrift store! I walked out and visited The Closet Trading Post-much better store. Friendly staff and not stuffy with better clothing choices. Shame on you! read more

This is one of the best consignment shops I've found since moving to the West Coast. I've only been here once but I spent over 2 hours here trying on clothes. It's a big store with a lot of quality inventory. I found several things I liked and had to narrow it down to just three dresses to fit my budget. I'm not sure if this is always the case, but when I was there they had a bunch of unusual estate vintage pieces, seemingly from the same woman who happened to be my size. I got two, high quality, hand sewn vintage 1960's dresses and a really fun black 1980's dress that had a wire armature in the skirt to make it hold a cartoonish, architectural ruffle around the bottom. I think I paid $85 for each dress which felt fair for the quality and rarity of the items. Renaissance also had a lot of contemporary designer clothing from J. Crew to Chanel, but that's not as much my thing and some of those seemed priced higher because of the desirability of the designers. The saleswoman was nice. She didn't hover but was ready to help when I asked. I really want to come back here but I'm afraid of how much time and money I will spend! read more
