Favorite place to come everytime I visit santa Barbara to see family. Selection is beautifully curated and I never leave without finding some elegant item to add to my wardrobe. High quality clothing and designers. Prices have gone up a bit since I started shopping here but isn't that true of everywhere. I believe they recently changed ownership so there is a bit of a shift in the overall style - seems a bit more modern but that could just be the day I was there as their stock is always changing. Waaaay overpriced. I found 4 jackets that I was interested in base on style, all of them from chains such as J Crew--then I looked at the price tags--$50-$60 for a used J Crew jacket?? I just purchased a brand new one for $40 so I would never pay $60 for a used one, that's just silly! I also found a nice peacoat--it was $200. If I wanted to spend that much, I would buy new. And not all the clothes are designer, yes there are designer pieces but they are mixed in with Banana Republic and the like, but the prices reflect all designer pieces. They were also selling an incomplete kimono for $200 which was in poor condition and was missing the obi--not worth even half that in that condition (well worn and missing pieces). This is one of the best consignment stores I have seen. They have a great selection of brands and price their merchandise well. Their designer handbag selection is usually good but brands such as Louis Vuitton or Gucci can sell quickly. I spoke with the manager who explained that they have an appraiser to verify that all items are authentic and priced accordingly. This can be challenging as there are huge price differences between different lines in a brand, such as the difference between J. Crew and J. Crew Factory or Emporio Armani or Armani Exchange. In addition the staff is very friendly and helpful but never overbearing. read more

Wow! Love this shop. I am a huge consignment shopper and especially for vintage. This is a big shop with loads of great items to buy. The saleswoman, Vicki, who helped me was great. Very sweet. Bought a beautiful shawl and some great Dolce &Gabbana boots as a birthday present for myself. Everything was already a good deal but I also received 20% off of the marked price. I recently bought a pair of Loro Piana brand new boots that are absolutely a "steal". Payed $250 and they retail for $2350. You can definitely find great stuff if you are there at the right time. The reason I took a star off is because of the old fashion feeling of the store and the fact that is so crowded with clothes. I personally don't like to dig through a bunch of stuff to find something. I'm not a huge fan of resale overall but sometimes is fun to go in and find something brand new for a very reasonable price. People working there are great and the owner is very sweet. I think if parking was better I would go in more. By far the best consignment store in town. Recommended. read more

Every time we visit Santa Barbara, I love going in Renaissance! It's a very inviting store, and the staff makes you feel welcome whether you're just browsing or doing serious shopping! This spot is really hit-or-miss for me. They have a lot of fantastic clothing, and the majority is higher-end and in fantastic condition. However, the pricing system is odd to me. I have found second hand clothing from Anthropologie for more than it would cost brand new at Anthro and I have also found great deals. Maybe a little more research should be done, but if shopping there definitely Google items or brands before purchasing because they might not be a good deal. This could just be me, but when I have gone in their staff are usually more attentive to regular customers who they recognize or older women who appear like they might spend more money, and I get a less relaxed vibe. Maybe they shouldn't judge pocketbooks by age. Again, great selection. read more

I passed on a beautiful pair of Chanel shoes and regretted it when I got home, thousands of miles away on the east coast. I emailed the shop and asked about the shoes. I had a similar experience as Yolance C. I am a long time resident of Santa Barbara and went to the shop to look for a dress for an upcoming Gala. There were a dozen customers in the store. The store employee behind the cash register did not greet me, but did get out from behind the counter and followed closely wherever I went pretending to straighten up the racks. I did not observe her doing to any of the customers. I am Asian, the other customers were white. This was a very disappointing experience, and I will never shop here again, and will inform my friends and acquaintances of my experience. As my experience does not appear to be an isolated one, I suggest the owner do some serious customer service training with her employees before she loses more customers. read more

The salesperson was friendly, helpful, and she dashed all over the shop looking for and showing me jackets, per my general description, until... She held up one and I think my heart fluttered. Do not shop at this consignment store!!!! I purchased a purse that looked vintage. The clerk did not know anything about the purse. Once home, under better light I was able to read the label on the inside of the purse; Urban Experience....new....not old. I looked up the purse on the web and found it for sale at multiple sites for HALF THE PRICE of what I had just paid for it in consignment!!!! I tried calling the store using the phone number listed on my receipt and on the web....the phone line was BUSY every single time I called. I wrote two emails asking for help. Heard not a word. After ten days, I called the Renaissance Consignment store in Sacramento, CA. The staff answered right away and the manager of that store was appalled and told me they would make this right. I then did hear from Santa Barbara and the clerk who sold me the purse also reiterated that they would either refund the entire purse or what I was asking...was for only a refund on the difference in price. I was told that I would hear from their bookkeeper the next day. Two days later, nothing. When I called the Santa Barbara store again, I was told that the owner said that if I liked the purse when I bought it, then they didn't owe me anything! So fellow consignment shoppers, bring your phones and if something is pricey do your own research right there on the premises. Normally I love consignment stores and this has never happened to me before. Renaissance Fine Consignment does not respect their customers and could care less if you are happy with your purchase. read more

This store is packed with surprises! It starts with the delightful staff, who are so sweet and helpful without being overbearing. Even if you have no other reason, you should go in to meet them and look around for a future purchase. I found much more than I came looking for as they have so many different styles and brands. I did find two exquisite designer dresses for an upcoming summer wedding in addition to some casual tops. I have to say that the owner and staff are also so much fun to visit with and are so willing to share their design information and talents. As we were just visiting Santa Barbara, it was a lucky find for us and is located on State Street near some great restaurants. We will always go back there when we visit Santa Barbara. read more

This is my favorite consignment shop! I shop resale wherever I travel. This shop has a beautiful seating area where you can shop, your friends can sit and drink wine and comment on your look as you try on clothes. My friends take the train and meet me to shop here. They tried to sell a very expensive purse for almost nothing (they sent my invoice list to the wrong address and never bothered to follow up what must have been bounced back to them.) I had to threaten a lawsuit to get it back. It was either fraud or they have no idea the value of items. When I went to pick up my things, buttons were missing from a YSL suit. I buy almost all my clothing at consignment shops, and, as moderate to high end shops go, this is one of the best. The sizes are mostly on the smaller end, and I am a true 10. That is, however, the usual issue with good clothing in the 21st century. There is no pressure to buy and the staff knows the merchandise, even on weekends. read more

Great to stop in every few weeks or so as the inventory is always changing...but have a hearty breakfast first because there is SO much to look at, try on, and look again! High end designers (they must get the Montecito consignors!) as well as JCrew, Anthropologie, and boutique brands too.
