We stopped in here for a drink on a particularly busy Saturday night in downtown Pittsburgh. Multiple events let out around the same time and everywhere was buzzing. Our group has had positive experiences visiting this hotel bar when the hotel was still The Renaissance, so we decided to check it out. We were surprised to see that the hotel had rebranded as The Atterbury since we last stopped in. The two bar tenders were busy making drinks when we arrived and actively avoided making eye contact with anyone who was waiting to be served. We stood there for a good 5-10 minutes before one of them acknowledged us and told us he'd be with us shortly. I don't mind waiting for service, but at least say hello. The beer list and prices were decent for a hotel bar. There's plenty of room to sit in the beautiful hotel foyer of the bar area is crowded. It's too bad that the cold reception at the bar overshadowed what would have otherwise been a fun nightcap. read more

DO NOT STAY- June 2026 Major Renovation taking place. We were not told of this when booking. We checked in and went to nap only to be woken up by emergency announcements that an evacuation was taking place and Do Not Use Elevator. As seniors we attempted to hurry out of our room and walk down NINE fights of stairs. Stairwells were filthy with dirt and dust from construction and some lighting was out. We finally reached the lobby only to find business as usual. Front desk said we should have been told when we checked in. The employee that checked us in was right there and we called her. It. She said she didn't think they were still doing the emergency drill. It was unreal. I showed them my filthy hands walking down 9 flights of dusty stairs and they offered me hand sanitizer. Not much of apologies at all. No notices on elevators, no phone message alerting us to drill nor a preannouncement that this was inky a drill. Every day this worsened. Lobby was a mess where you encountered many workman, the noise was beyond loud. Scaffolding surrounding the entrance. One day we came down and the bar we had enjoyed the evening before was gone. We were told there were no workout facilities in the building due to construction. Our room with a view was - well you were unable to see out the window because of the filth. Instead of welcoming us to the Marriott Renaissance, they greeted us with scowls and didn't offer us water or even check for an upgrade when we were promised one when we made the reservation. This is not a four-star hotel! It is like a 2.5 star At best, the rooms are totally lackluster and dingy and dirty and beaten up - and all of the staff that we interacted with were completely unfriendly and untrained. What a disappointment! This hotel has the potential to be beautiful - with its great architecture in place, but everything is dirty, shabby, and no one is even trying to be nice or helpful!! I paid a hefty amount for my weekend stay and was extremely disappointed in the condition of the room. I opted for the corner suite as we were in town celebrating a birthday. The room was grungy and visibly poorly maintained. Valet staff were excellent; quick, friendly and helpful. The restaurant is beyond mediocre with chain restaurant options. The common areas are stunning! The view from my room was top tier but as I previously stated the condition of the room gave motel vibes. After visiting for the first time four years ago, we decided to give the Renaissance another shot by staying for a couple of nights during the holidays. The staff was welcoming and the hotel lobby was nicely decorated with a Christmas tree and other festive decor for Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. Our room was spacious and had a partial view of the river and PNC Park, which was fun to wake up to every morning. I liked the room but felt the hotel is really showing its age. While there have been some updates, they've been cosmetic. The bed was really uncomfortable, so I was unable to get a good night's rest. And the bathroom is quite outdated, with wallpaper peeling off in certain parts. This time around, the BonVoy lounge was open. Breakfast was eggs and bacon, along with fresh fruit, yogurts, and pastries. Simple but no complaints. The hotel has valet parking but if you're there on a weekend, the garage across the street has a flat rate of $8 (no in-and-out privileges). As far as location goes, this is a great place to stay! read more

Wow wow wow! We stayed overnight in downtown Pittsburgh and chose the Renaissance because of the idea of having a river view. It was absolutely beautiful now that the sister bridges are completed. We found ourselves walking over to the windows multiple times to look at the views outside of the bridges and ballparks. Check in was very easy and the woman at the front desk was welcoming. The hotel is beautiful and is in an amazing location located downtown Pittsburgh with view of the baseball stadium and lots of food options within walking distance. We parked across the street in the parking structure to avoid the steep $41 nightly valet cost. I am a diamond member so upon arrival I did not revive a room upgrade as expected but I did receive coupons for breakfast for both all 3 nights of my stay. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast unfortunately was very underwhelming. The Renaissance Pittsburgh is a lovely property, which I would return to in future travels. Rooms: + They are spacious. This is the opposite of New York City sized properties. In a standard room, I felt like I had more than enough space to spread out. Service: + Everyone I came in contact with was helpful. For example, in the morning, the Elite club lounge was not open at the promised time. I went downstairs to the front desk to ask if they had any more information, and they immediately comped a breakfast at the restaurant. For Platinum + elites, the club lounge provides heavy appetizers for dinner that would likely be sufficient for dinner if you stretch it. The location is really good, but the hotel is not very nice. Our room didn't seem clean. There were stains on the furniture and the shower curtain. There was a tile missing in the shower and the toilet paper holder kept falling off. The paint was flaking off of the door to our room. The whole hotel needs a major update. read more

For us the location was perfect. We were coming in for a shirt quick visit and got tickets to the Pirates game. Location was amazing, right across from PNC Park! Valet parking at hotel was $50, we parked in the parking garage right across the street over night for $18. Super convenient. Hotel will allow you to pull up and unload but it wasn't necessary as we packed light. Beautiful hotel with lots of history. Loved our room though the door lock was very tricky. Lounge was not available which was a bit disappointing especially for platinum members. Good thing our time was limited. All and all I would definitely give it another try. read more

We have stayed at this hotel briefly for several nights and here is the review in detail details: Rooms: not very spacious, interesting colors with industrial feel decorations, not in a bad way, just a little difficult to feel completely relaxing due to the color theme. Room service was very good. Bathroom was spacious. Amenities are good. They have a good size gym. A good number of conference rooms on the second floor. Food and drinks: they only have one restaurant on site and with limited opening hours. Quality of food was good though. They have one bar on site. The bar opens for a much longer time than the restaurant, however, given its location there is no shortage of restaurants and bars within walking distance. Services: this is one of the areas I was the least pleased with at this hotel. From the day we check in to the hotel and through our stay, the staff that worked in the bar, the services were just not good. During our check-in, both my husband and I felt there was a little attitude during our check-in process, not sure if the attitude was towards to us or the lady was having a bad day. And for the three times I visit the bar. None of the bartenders offered me a food menu nor told me I was able to order food at the bar, nor even come to the table for any service while I was sitting at the table . The only reason I found out I can order food from restaurant at the bar was by walking to the restaurant and the wait staff in the front told me about it. My experience was basically if you are not placed yourself right by the bar there is no service for drinks or food. Which is definitely something this hotel management need to work on. The location of this hotel it's very convenient . Walkable to town center, restaurants, bars, bridges to across to the otherside of the water, to the stadium, museum, and many more. There are many activities nearby, including, but not limited to museums, sports and concert at the stadium , boat ride, community events in town center area, Theatre plays or movies, at many more. As a high-level Marriott elite member . I did not feel like I was appreciated by staying here . Stayed at the Renaissance during the quarantine period as the hotel was getting back to normal. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous, there are these double cascading staircases in the lobby that kind of remind you of a grand entrance of a Disney Princess movie. Staff is super nice too. We got placed into a handicap room and so the room was substantially bigger and the views were gorgeous - the bathroom had a giant window to see all three of the iconic yellow bridges. However, I do feel like the hotel is a bit old. The shower system was a little bit janky - you had to constantly adjust the temperature because the water temperature is dependent on who else also uses the shower. Also the room is really dark, they only have two lamps so at night it gets super dark. Overall, its a great hotel but the water temperature problem as well as the darkness of the room irked me a little bit. read more

Luxurious stay with a great view. The Renaissance Pittsburgh is located on the north side of downtown with a great view of the river. Fairly close to lots of dining and a few bars, the location works well to explore downtown or see the city. Parking is expensive (and street parking is limited) but there are parking garages fairly close. The lobby is fairly spacious, with a small check-in desk. Very friendly staff, and efficient - got room key quickly and into room on time. Got a river facing corner room, and tons of windows (took forever to open and close the curtains). Rooms are very spacious, with plenty of seating. Nice size TV, very comfortable bed. However, power outlets can be hard to find (and I cut myself on the furniture trying to get to outlets) which is not great. Definitely worth a stay, but does need to fix any potential safety issues and increase availability of outlets to convenient places. read more

I was in a wedding being held at the hotel - Saturday morning we had to start getting ready at 8 but my friend and I booked a room together for that night. When we arrived we let them know we were in the wedding and asked if there was early check in available since once 2pm hit there was no way we'd have time to check in until after dinner. They were able to give us the last queen room and let us check in right then which was awesome! The room it's self was fine - clean and had a great view. This is a wonderful place for a wedding! The event coordinator was great and the stair case is prefect for the ceremony. The bridal suite was amazing and had the prefect balcony! Would definitely recommend this hotel!! read more

An upper level out for terrace would put this hotel over the top (as far as I know there are only outdoor patios/terraces for a few of the most expensive suites), and the hotel restaurant (Braddock's Rebellion) was good, not great. That said, it is a great spot with potential, and if your a "foodie" you have several great options within a couple blocks. There is inexpensive garage parking right across the street, which helps save some $ over valet fees. Check-in was quick and staff is excellent. read more

Nice boutique hotel close to PNC Park. Renaissance was a breath of fresh air After a horrific hotel stay in Niagara Falls, and also a mid-level hotel stay a day earlier out in the PGH suburbs. To boot, the Renaissance pipes in a really nice smell, so it was a doubly breath of fresh air! Funky decor, artwork, and a nice high-ceilinged lobby area gives this hotel a cool vibe. There was a cosplay convention happening nearby, and lots of players were staying in the hotel, and that was fun. Cool clientele. We loved our room, everything was clean, comfortable, and there were more cool art and boutique touches in the room. I got a local craft beer at the bar, and we wound down our night with some board games in the lobby, and it was a perfect way for us to refresh on our last night in Pittsburgh for the long car drive home. The good: - location, close to all the famous restaurants in town on Sixth Avenue - beautiful lobby (plus Starbucks open in the mornings) - fast and roomy elevators The not so good: - the bed was not comfortable. I am not sure if I am in the minority here? My partner and I had a queen-sized room, and neither of us slept well here. When we woke up, we both talked about having a sore back - the walls are thin, you can hear people walking by your room in the hallway - the room is not very clean. The mattress has bed bug covers, so no bed bug problem here. However, my friend and I spotted several tiny insects crawling on the lamp, trash can, and bathroom window. It didn't bother us that much, so we stuck to our room. But I expected higher cleaning standards from the brand - there is no swimming pool? Why not? - the bathroom toiletries seem to be lacking. There were only shampoo, conditioner, makeup remover wipe, and bar soap. I honestly expected more from the brand! Like mouthwash perhaps? Or Q tips? The Renaissance is actually ranked fairly high in the Marriott chain in the city. However, I might check out another hotel the next time I am in town. read more

Great, beautiful room. The bed was very comfortable. The service was okay. The breakfast buffet was almost empty half an hour before closing and no one came to fill it up. Luckily the associate at the front desk apologized about it and gave us coupons to eat at the restaurant on the first floor. Another problem was the bathtub and the sink - they were completely clogged and we had to wait a while until it drained. We found Renaissance via Kayak and it came highly recommended - and they were right! Very nice and high end hotel in downtown Pittsburgh. It was pretty much right across the street from the river which means if you have room facing that direction you have a pretty good view. Polite door men here as they open the door for you every time and greet you as well and of course they offer to grab your luggage when you arrive. The lobby area is nice with a decent seating area as well as cafe/restaurant which had a great breakfast. The rooms were very nice and modern as well. Spacious and clean. Definitely a repeat visit if I am back in the area. read more

Had a wonderful stay here to celebrate a special anniversary and to attend Light Up Night. The front desk staff, especially Tanesha, were extremely friendly. They upgraded our room and provided a complementary breakfast because of our anniversary. They even surprised us with cupcakes and a bottle of Prosecco to celebrate.
