I have been trying to find an Italian restaurant that's closer to my area and lucky for me, I found Renato's! It's hard to come across an Italian restaurant in the little Saigon but Renato's definitely did not disappoint. I ordered takeout and the food was as if I was dining in. The portions were large and price was reasonable. I love Italian restaurants and my favorite part is the bread that comes with your meal. I've said this before and I will always say that I am a carbs girl! The bread was nicely toasted with a slight crunch and light butter. I could talk about the bread forever but that's not as important as the rest of the meal. I ordered the calamari, rigatoni renato and fettuccine Alfredo. As if the bread wasn't good enough, Renato's appetizers were just as amazing that I almost forgot to save some for my boyfriend. The calamari with marinara sauce and a squeeze of lemon was chefs kiss! If you ever go please do yourself a favor and order the calamari! I am a huge fan of rigatoni so it was only right that I tried the rigatoni Renato. The creamy sauce, the mushrooms, the chicken and cherry tomatoes! This meal did not disappoint. Get a little bit of everything in your fork and it was a burst of flavor. This by far is my favorite rigatoni! As for the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken, you can never go wrong with this option. I've been craving Chicken Picatta into my 2nd trimester and I was so excited this place had the dish! Recommend, recommend, recommend..... As we were looking for a place that was open Christmas Eve, I thought "maybe". I've driven by quite a few times and was 1) surprised by the location near Little Saigon and 2) unimpressed by the strip mall that it is located in. Boy, am I glad I gave it a chance. When we first showed up with a party of 6, the owner went out of his way to set us up with a table. We were lucky enough to catch it at a lull, so the wait was not too long. If we had gotten there 5 minutes later, we would have had to wait. It was that busy, which was a good sign. The started us with some damn good garlic bread and we perused the menu while sipping on a glass of wine. My Chianti was very good and the price (at $7) was more than reasonable. The table ordered Chicken piccata (mine and very good), the farfalle aurora w pink sauce (a nice flavor and was devoured by the daughter), the cheese ravioli w vodka pink sauce, a pizza with ham and black olives, and fettuccine alfredo. Everybody was pleased by their choices and they unanimously approved of the restaurant. We were too full to eat dessert. The service was excellent and, though they did mess up (briefly) by forgetting to bring my son's pizza, they were attentive and accommodating. They even filled our wine glasses up for gratis when they realized they had messed up. They didn't have to do this, but it certainly was appreciated. I've been coming here since about 2006. I moved away from the area back in 2012 but still manage to make my way over there at least once a year.Been here a total of about a dozen times. First the prices are very reasonable for what you actually get. I've had their pizza, pasta, and seafood pasta dishes. All the seafood pasta dishes are amazing. I especially recommend the angel hair with shrimp dish and also the one that comes with shrimp and scallop. But seriously, everything is tasty and very authentic here. Great place to take a date too. Since we have a kid and can't make it out for Valentine's Day I decided to do takeout and cover valentines dinner that way. Pretty far from where we live now but totally worth the 30 min drive. Last time we went in was for a birthday and my gal got a free champagne split, our server was so nice. I love this place and hope they stay open another 37 years. It's crazy this super good, hole in the wall, tucked away in the middle of little Saigon, place exists and has for so long. Once you go in and try the food I think you'll get why. Keep up the great work Renato's! My only beef is that the head chef Donato is so friendly and comes out and checks on his guests but for some reason always seems to skip my table! What the hell man! I ordered mine to go. Their spaghetti is alright, a 7/10, but they need to work on the packaging because their aluminum bowl and paper bag were a big mess. The guy who gave me the food just slid the bowl into the bag sideways and folded it into a square. Didn't tell me that the bowl was sideways or not to hold it from the top. By the time I walked out to my car, it was already spilling everywhere. The containers were not secured, leaking out into the bag and ripping it. I had to park and eat in my car instead of enjoying it at home :-( read more

Prior to the current pandemic, I've previously visited Renato's many times and their food continues to draw me in. The amount that they serve at a reasonable price is incredible, and the taste of each dish is always well-seasoned. Back when I first came by to this restaurant, there were quite a lot of customers waiting for their to-go's, and the line wasn't that long with 4 or 5 parties ahead of me. However, with their excellent customer services, the foods were brought out as swiftly as it can be, and I was even served with free cannolis as a way of apologizing for the wait. Call me biased, but my first impression definitely left a positive mark at Renato's. For any suggestions, I recommend eating their tortellini con pesto, it's one of my favorite dishes as well as their fried mozzarella which has such a great cheese pull. Because of how delicious their foods are, I definitely look forward to buying more dishes to try out here. read more

We had a company luncheon and I had called and made reservations 2 weeks prior and confirmed the day prior. When we arrived the tables were not set for our party of 12 but they did set them pretty quickly. We did have to wait approx 10 minutes before they waited on us but when they did get to us they took our drink order and our food order, which was a plus because we were all hungry. Now for the food...it was delish! I had the Lasagna which was very tasty and another co worker had the Steak plate and he said it was very good! We also ordered the antipasto salad which was full of meat and also very good. They brought two different type of dressing - ranch and vinaigrette and I must say the Ranch was definitely one of the best I have had! This is a small, family owned and run business, that has excellent food and service. We came in on a Sunday evening. There was a large party in the main room, so we decided to sit in the cozy outdoor patio area. Our server, Juan Carlos, told us about the wine selection, and gave recommendations and descriptions of favorite entrees. My husband ordered his go-to at an Italian restaurant, lasagna. He thought it was "pretty good". I ordered the linguine pescadore. It had just the right amount of perfectly cooked and seasoned calamari, clams, mussels, shrimp, and a scallop. I can't say I love the food here. I ordered the meat ravioli with meat. Upon seeing it land on the table from the server's hand first impression was bad. It looked like gooey paste. It did not like saucey and fresh. Before I even taste anything I sliced a piece of ravioli to inspect the ground meat inside and it looks undercooked. I managed to eat a quarter of my dish because I was hungry but because it was not good I couldn't forced myself to finish it. I didn't even want the leftover as lunch. The taste was bland, stale and overall boring. My sister ordered something with pasta and mushroom and hers was equally disappointing. The service is decent here and the ambience is nice but from the food we tasted today we are not coming back- just not up to our standard for Italian food unfortunately. They could go lower on the price for the quality of food. My dish was $13 and came with a side of soup. It could easily be charged $9-$10 due to the quality it was made with. Honestly, the meal I had here was very unmemorable. The linguine with calamari was probably the best dish of the night. I'd skip out on the salads. I also had tiramisu, but I thought it tasted very watery...I wouldn't recommend it. Service was great though! If you're craving Italian, go here instead of Olive Garden or any other "Italian" chain restaurants. However, I still think Mama D's in Newport Beach is a lot better. I wanted to order a pizza for my kids; I asked if they can make it half plain cheese and other half all the toppings on their Mediterrane pizza, and they said NO. How difficult is it to just put the toppings on HALF of the pizza, I said I'll pay the more expensive price! I have 3 kids to feed and they expect me to buy 3 pizzas or something? Ridiculous. Pasta is one of my favorite dishes to fatten up on due to the load of carbs and fat. In all seriousness, I enjoy a good pasta dish. I've had Renato's a few times in my life and finally decided to get some when craving pasta. I ordered the Fettucine Ai Funghi and added on some sliced Italian sausage. The pasta is richer than Iron Man and Bill Gates. I can only imagine how many calories this one dish has but I'm all for it. It's not overly heavy which I enjoy. The portions here are always huge. I eat a lot and the times I've had pasta from here, there is always leftovers. First thing I noticed was how freshly made it was. The food was piping hot and if I held the container in one hand I'd probably get burned. You can tell visually that the pasta is made at the restaurant and isn't from a box. The noodles aren't all even and perfect which allows the sauce to cling onto the noodles better. The texture of the noodles was okay. I prefer noodles with more silkiness and bite. The sauce was a basic cream sauce, executed well. One thing I've noticed was that there is always so much extra sauce that the noodles are submerged in. I've also had the Linguine Pescatore. This is a linguine pasta with a variety of seafood in a light tomato sauce. If you're a seafood fan, you'll enjoy all the fresh seafood they top this dish with. Quality is there but the only thing I wish was that the sauce had more flavor. The seafood is the star but I want the sauce to enhance instead of hide behind the seafood. Again, the portion is large and can feed a couple people easily. Currently they are open for takeout. I called in and it was ready in the quoted time. They take orders and fulfill phone orders through their little pickup window which is literally a window of the restaurant. Definitely a great place to try if you love Italian food!!! read more

Renatos has been a family staple for over 25 years so it's about time for a review. My mom gates pizza, BUT she loves Renatos pizza! It is literally the only place she'll eat pizza from. I always get the chicken Alfredo. It may be basic but it's a classic for a reason. The sauce is just so perfect and it's not just the alfredo, the marinara and pink sauce are great as well! I always have a hard time ordering here because I just want some of everything. Even the garlic bread is delicious! The calamari was a tad over cooked this time but it could've been since it was ordered to go and I didn't get to the food until after I got home instead of fresh like usual at the restaurant. Even during a pandemic, Renatos still has loyal customers as I saw 5 people pick up orders as I was waiting for mine as well. This little mom and pop show is such a jewel. Friends came from out of town and were craving pasta. Had this place bookmarked for a while and thought it was the perfect opportunity to try it. I've never been to Italy or had authentic Italian food so I have nothing substantial to compare it to, but I really enjoyed my meal. I got the linguine and scallops. My friends got the chicken penne and linguine with clams. They both were v satisfied with their dishes. Super affordable too, I think the total came out to $50 pre-tip. Our waiter was so kind and thoughtful. Garlic bread comes complimentary for the table, but after taking my friend's order and noticing his allergies to butter, cheese, etc., our waiter asked if we also wanted a basket of plain bread on the side and even brought out some oil and balsamic vinegar. We thought this was such a nice gesture and definitely made our dining experience more welcoming. The service was great he kept coming to our table and refilling our waters before we even thought to ask for more. My friend who got the linguine and clams is superrrr picky and to hear him say good things about a meal is extremely rare unless maybe for a place with $$$$.. Decided to eat Italian food on a whim with my family, but this place was actually really good. We came here on a pretty busy Friday night- the inside is pretty small, but there's outdoor patio seating in the front. The inside is compact and cozy, but it's not too stuffy or cramped. We ordered the some pasta dishes and the bruschetta for an appetizer. Each dish also comes with a choice of soup or salad + complementary garlic bread. Relatively large portions, even for the side salad/soup. The food itself is very tasty and authentic. My boyfriend ordered a spaghetti that came with a savory tomato sauce and shrimp- I liked that a lot but I also really enjoyed my Rigatoni Renato. Knocking down a star because the wait to take order was super long and service wasn't so great when we first arrived. The portion is just right, the chicken is tender and juicy, sauce is creamy, and the sun dried tomatoes and mushrooms completes this dish perfectly. Decent pasta place, I was thinking more of a 3.5 than 4 but I rounded up. I wish that I could've enjoyed the food more since the service was so amazing but it wasn't as good as I thought it would be. The garlic bread they gave in the beginning was well toasted but lacked in some flavor. The calamari fritti was delicious! It was perfectly crispy and the marinara sauce it came with had a pinch of spice in it so it was perfect. The carbonara was a bit more on the dry side and tasted alright. The rigatoni renato was pretty good, I think the sauce was really good. The only downside was that it was watery - I don't think they fully drained the pasta prior to mixing it with the sauce which made it super watery/soupy. The fettuccine ai funghi was alright too, just a typical creamy fettuccine with mushroom, again, a bit watery. Overall, the service was perfect, they kept checking in on us and they were always so nice and polite. I think there's a lot of potential to be better but overall it was a good experience. read more
