I'm going to start by saying that our waiter was wonderful. Despite my mom's hard of hearing and replying back, he did a wonderful job at making her feel comfortable. As funny as it may seem, my mom's gestures must be universal as he understood when she was wanting a to go box too. So I've been here a few times and always enjoyed the atmosphere, but today was exceptionally loud. The gentleman that sat just to the table next to ours was a loud and animated individual. Being that my mom's wears hearing aids she had a hard time hearing over his talking. Other than that individual, the rest of the customers weren't as loud and could have made for a calmer lunch. Now as for the important part. The food was tasty and the pasta was perfectly cooked. My mom enjoyed her dish as well and don't forget the cheese bread. We were pleasantly surprised by Renato's. The places kind of feels like a hole in the wall, walking up I wasn't sure what to expect. We visited Renato's on Saturday's for a late lunch. The restaurant was fairly quiet with maybe a few patrons inside. The patio had lawn chairs and bolted down tables. Not really a place I would've chosen but once we received the food and took a bite i didn't care about the chairs. The cheese pizza was so tasty, the mozzarella cheese pull looked like a commercial cheese pull. I don't usually care for cheese pizza but I loved it. We also tried the fried mozzarella sticks on a second visit, and those were just as good. It feels like they make their own fresh mozzarella. A friend of ours tried their chicken parmesan and devoured the whole plate. All in all, the food would definitely get me to come back. Also, they do allow dogs in the patio. This was a plus because we got to have lunch with our pup. We will definitely be back to try other things on their menu. read more

A quick dinner at Renato's is what we wanted... but when we were there we find three birthday celebrations. A big group sat by the mural and it looks like they are having a feast. Allright then, we will sing along as cake and candles became centerpieces. Juan Carlos served us and we go back a long time. He took our order for thin spaghetti with marinara for the lovely missus and I'll have the Chicken Parmigiano with penne pasta in a marinara sauce. But, the special on the board tonight is white Clam Chowder soup.. I gotta have that to start with. A thick creamy well filled bowl of yummy goodness. The plates came with a basket of cheese / garlic toasted slices of white Italian bread. The marinara at Renato's is thin and covers the pasta but you can definitely taste the Vine ripened tomatoes and the remnants of the fragrant basil leaves. The flattened and battered white breast chicken with a slice of Mozzarella was a delight. Our quick dining was very pleasant and seeing the waitstaff going back and forth was marvelously entertaining. It was even better than the videolog of a far away land. We had good service and leftover was readied. A to go order of the thick and creamy Fettucini Alfredo was also ready. So happy with my experience from last night!!! My friend and I came around 8:00 PM on a Sunday. We sat immediately and were served waters upon request (I love my hot water with lemon!). The dining area was cozy, decorated with a bright ocean mural supported by soft ambient music covers playing on a small TV. The complimentary bread came out quickly, and so did our food. My friend ordered a farfalle dish with chicken and spinach (custom additions) and I got spaghetti with spicy marinara sauce and shrimp. Both dishes were excellent! The noodles were tender and warm, and the ingredients tasted hearty and fresh (e.g., cooked garlic slices, white meat chicken, and peeled shrimp). I was so impressed by the firm chew of the shrimp in my pasta and the freshly grated cheese in the shakers on the table. The waiter, Israel, was kind, prompt, and accommodating the entire night. I even had leftovers to take home, which another staff kindly boxed up for me! You can tell that the restaurant only uses clean, high quality ingredients, and that the workers really care about the quality of their service and food. Thank you to everyone for being so kind, even at the closing hour. My only wish is that they offered a wider selection of drinks and desserts. What's also fascinating is that I wasn't the only Vietnamese party on the day I went, so it should tell you something about this place. The place has an outdoor dinning area. Reservations is highly recommended for parties of 3 or more. Menu offers variety from appetizers, pasta, chicken and seafood and salad and pizza. Check out the daily specials that posted by the cashier. Soup of the day changes everyday according to the cashier. Portions are huge and complement for the pricing. Offer complimentary homemade garlic bread (olive oil and vinegar are offer through request only) Sodas are fountain. Pizzas are set and toppings can't be substituted unless you create your own pizza.Order the usual of calamari friti and Linguini alla Pescatore (seafoood with pasta) while friends order traditional spaghetti N meatballs and lasagna. Truly a hidden gem in Westminster! A small family owned restaurant that serves incredible Italian food. My favorites were the Tuscan pizza add burrata and balsamic vinegar and the Farfalle aurora (pink sauce) with shrimp. Those were amazing!! The truffle pasta was good but those two were the stars of the show. I'd like to try the Rigatoni Renato next time as I imagine that is probably their specialty. Wow! I cannot believe this place exists in it's current environment! An awesome Italian food restaurant smack dab in the heart of Little Saigon? This hidden gem, is in a rather unassuming plaza off Brookhurst/McFadden, next to a CVS and Saigon City. I stopped by Renato's for lunch today, and had a great experience. Really cannot believe I've never eaten here before. Juan Carlos cheerfully welcomed me into the restaurant while I grabbed a menu to look over what to order. I opted for the Spaghetti and Meatballs, and a drink. The house bread is complimentary with entree. Food is made to order here - about 15 to 20 minutes from time that I ordered. While I was waiting (I opted to dine in) - countless customers walked in and out - and it seemed like they were regulars. It's always a good sign when you hear the friendly conversations between regular patrons and the staff - indicates that it's more of a neighborhood restaurant (and has that warm, wonderful atmosphere) rather than someplace you go to eat once in a blue moon. The Spaghetti and Meatballs was delicious. The pasta was al dente and there was a good ratio of pasta, sauce and meat. The homemade meatballs were larger than your typical meatballs - and each bite was rich and full of flavor. The house garlic bread - served with the spaghetti was wonderful, and soaked up the sauce for more flavor. Service is top notch. Juan Carlos checked in on me several times during my visit, offering refills on my soda or if I wanted more bread (I kindly refused since I had more than enough food). I did ask him about whether the restaurant would serve "Cioppino" again - since I had noticed photos of it on Yelp. He mentioned it's a special dish that is served on the weekends during the colder months - so I'm definitely looking forward to coming back to try that, since it's my favorite Italian/Seafood dish. Parking is easy - it's part of the massive lot shared by CVS and Saigon City, but there are also reserved spots for Renato's patrons upfront. An appropriate rating is 2.5 stars. Pros- generous portions, reasonably priced, friendly hostess Cons- marsala sauce was undercooked. It had a heavy alcohol taste and was difficult to eat. Stuffed mushrooms were ok though the choice of sauce was interesting. It was like a cream of chicken flavor, when I'd expect a marinara pairing. Caprese salad was unavailable. Napkins and utensils were not provided, so we had to ask our hotel which does not offer food service after lunch. It was a disappointing experience after reading the rave reviews by recent customers and driving 40 minutes round trip to procure dinner. Though, I've long moved away from my childhood home in Westminster, thought I would give Renato's a try again on my way from a massage down Bolsa. If you are looking for the classic family owned American-Italian food restaurant without going further down to HB then this is the place. The linguini clams was in a red sauce and tasty! Complimentary bread wasn't overpowered by garlic and the side order of salad was generous. Good sized pizza, the dough was crispy on the bottom. However the toppings all slid off the top at the beginning. It takes the kitchen a while to make each pizza. Was excited to try the bread basket, but it seemed like every table except ours was getting some. They make it fresh, so there's only so much they can give out at a time.
