Unlike the other reviewers, I had a wonderful experience with Renewal by Andersen from Cranford, NJ. I had been thinking about replacing my windows for awhile before the initial sales person stopped by my door. I would not have agreed to an appointment to listen to the full sales pitch unless I was seriously considering the project. The sales pitch does take a long time, and if you agree to order the product, the whole process takes almost a whole afternoon. I did not mind spending the time, however, because this was a major purchase for me that will easily increase the value of my home. The salesperson, Sean, was *not* a hard-sell kind of guy, which I very much appreciated. He was courteous and patiently answered all my questions. He convinced me of the high quality of the Andersen window, by showing me a sample, pointing out the design features, and demonstrating how the window stops heat from coming through, unlike my old windows. He did not "bash" the competition; instead, he talked about the technical disadvantages of the older vinyl and aluminum frames and glass I had (i.e., expansion and contraction over time causes warping, making the window difficult to open and causing heat and cold leakage) and the advantages of the Andersen materials (a combination of a better frame design and a material that does not expand and contract over time). As a scientist, the technical advantages made sense to me and I could easily see the quality of the design, construction and materials. Yes, they do the standard psychological trick of giving you the estimate without all the discounts first, then a lower price if you order within a certain period of time, and then an even lower price if you order that same day. This is why you should *never* agree to listen to the sales pitch if you are not a serious buyer. If Sean had used a hard-sell approach with me, I might not have placed the order. But I was convinced of the quality and Sean's sincerity, so I placed the order for 12 windows and 2 sliding glass doors. The installers were just terrific! The three men were on time, courteous and professional. They were very careful to protect my home while they worked and they cleaned up after themselves when the job was finished. The lead installer explained what they were doing every step of the way. A couple minor issues came up, which the lead installer resolved right away: (1) He was originally told there was only one door, but he found out the second door was in the warehouse and he got it and installed it the next day. (2) There was an error in the original order for one of the window's grid pattern and the correction never made it to the production facility; they offered to order a replacement with a corrected grid pattern, but I decided I liked the window as is -- so no harm done. But they were absolutely willing to make it right by ordering a new window if I wanted it. The installed windows and doors are just gorgeous and I can feel the difference in my home already. No more cold drafts coming in through leaky windows! My furnace is running much less frequently than before, and I am expecting a noticeable energy savings. Just had 15 Renewal by Andersen windows installed, and my family couldn't be happier! The original team of three craftsmen (Jim, Joe, & John) arrived promptly at 8 a.m, and do to a material error at another job site, management sent over another team of three craftsmen (Shane, Andy, & Ryan) to complete our 2-day job in just ONE! John (our lead for the job) had the team performing like a well-oiled machine. They even worked around some furniture that would have been very difficult to move. Thanks guys. The only slightly negative feedback I gave John was, when I was walking around inspecting the windows as the were being installed and sealed, one of the guys was not inserting the foam nozzle completely into the gaps to ensure they were filled. But when I brought it to their attention, they immediately agreed, apologized for the oversight and went back and corrected the issue. As an experienced craftsman and engineer, I think this happened from trying to apply the foam sealant from one position on the ladder, versus getting down and moving it. Yes... I've done it before (smile)! Folks (to be completely honest)... this is a fine example of 'you get what you pay for'! Make NO doubt about it, Andersen windows are expensive! However, I have purchased replacement windows by Power Siding & Windows for another home, and while cheaper they are NO WAY as good! Even before the windows were insulated, foamed, and trimmed/cladded, there was a noticeable difference in heat coming through the windows and sound proofing. I have read many horror stories about the sales and buying process, but for us, everything went well. If you want an honest sales rep, that will (in my opinion) shoot straight... ask for Mitch Steinburg. Then, have John and his install team put the windows in. Thanks Renewal-by-Andersen! A professional installation. We can't say enough about the great job the installers did and how well the project went. The team leader Karl and his crew arrived promptly, and all of them were courteous, professional, and respectful of our home, and very friendly. They removed shoes before they put down floor coverings for any area where they would need to walk with their work boots -- and later removed everything and vacuumed before they left. Spotless. Same outside. Dima and Jarek worked diligently with Karl all day to complete our job in just one day, with the Cranford office stopping by with the remainder of the materials as the crew needed them so we could be done in one day. And then two more guys showed up who were done early from another job and the teamwork was fantastic. These guys seem to like their work! All old material was carted away, all debris removed from inside and out, and even the driveway was cleared of all small bits and pieces. It looked like they had never been there. Even at the end of a long day, Karl took the time to review every aspect of the install and window features and function. Very well done. Ours was a very big job, our windows had aged to the point of needing either to be re-glazed, repaired and painted, or replaced. It was a tough decision but we're glad we replaced. If you are considering it, give yourself some time to look at other companies and educate yourself ahead of time. When you get the full information and financing options from Renewal, you'll see what's best for you. Ask questions and learn: it's a big investment and you need to know all details. As i read the post below, i must say i agree with the sales tactic, however, this is how they operate. They want all parties to be involved and they want to get their presentation out. They do give you 5 hours of their time. I am an inpatient man but i listen and signed up with them. Thereafter i did a lot of research and found Renewals windows to be the best replacement windows on the market (JD power rating them the best replacement window company in 2015 - http://www.jdpower.com/press-releases/2015-windows-and-patio-doors-satisfaction-study ). The Fibrex material is the best out there. The project was for 18 windows in my home was a tad over 24k with the discounts. They came out after i signed up to do measurements and within 3 weeks they had their installation team out at my home. They were professional, courteous, and clean up after they were finished. We are so impressed and happy with the windows and installation. We would recommend them to everyone (with the heads up of the long sales pitch). I think if anyone gave them the chance beyond the sales pitch they could've been very happy with the ending result. Also with regards to the company name, i asked the question as well and here was the response from the rep at Renewal: "And lastly, no, our company is NOT a franchise but rather an affiliated division of the Andersen Company. The nearest other geographic offices are in Long Island, Philadelphia, Albany and Boston. Our office is the largest by volume simply because we cover all of New Jersey except for the most southern part, Staten Island, New York City, the Bronx, Orange and Rockland counties of New York." read more

This was a canned sales process where the client will be required to go through all of what they want to show which builds up to giving you a price for window replacement that was 3 times as expensive as two other credible bids. But what really bothered me were a couple of sales tactics he used that put my radar on. First, he said you know I should not do this, but I'm going to use last years pricing to put together your bid. This is really special, so I hope you appreciate a few tricks I can do to drive the price down just for me. (Really, just for me, like we are long time friends?) There were more comments like that, oh, ..and I can do this, I shouldn't but I'll do it for you today. But the real red flag was that he gave me a ridiculous high price, and then would not write it down on a form or give me any written bid. Really, after wasting 2 hours of my time you can't give a written bid? All kinds of excuses, can't do that. Well every other window company, and for that matter any other business that has come to my house to solicit or bid work has always been able to provide a written bid or proposal. The sales person also basically stated flaws in every other window on the market and said every warranty from any other supplier was inferior. In the sales world this is known as using a FUD tactic which is Fear Uncertainty and Doubt. I could smell it instantly and it further undermined my ability to trust any aspect of what he said. From start to finish, Renewal by Andersen made my window replacement easy. With such a high quality product, my only concern was the installation itself. My concerns were quickly put to rest as the three-man installation crew was efficient, courteous, worked 'clean' (left nothing behind) and did a high quality installation to match the high quality windows. From the day the salesman first visited to the completion of the installation, it was approximately 1 month. Renewal by Andersen kept me up-to-date with everything, there were no surprises. I ordered 21 windows. My home is now warmer (it's currently winter here in NJ) even though the thermostat is set at the same temperature I usually use. My home is also quieter....the Renewal windows eliminate some of the outside noise. I can't wait to see what summer is like with my air conditioning. As I mentioned earlier, the windows speak for themselves and my concern was the installation. I can't say enough about the Renewal installation crew and the quality of their work. Renewal by Andersen having their own installation crews who know the product, know what to do and then doing it the way it's supposed to be done....priceless. I'm sure any homeowner reading this review has had at least one not-so-pleasant run-in with a contractor or the quality of work left a lot to be desired. Not so with Renewal by Andersen's crew !! From my initial phone call to the Cranford, NJ office asking to see a salesman to the Tuesday afternoon as the installation crew was finished and driving away.....the entire experience was a good one. We purchased our house in 1976 and kept the terrible windows, that were installed by the builder, for several years until we realized that our house was not getting the right protection from the elements. We then decided to go with vinyl replacement windows from a relative of a relative.....wrong way to go! The windows never locked easily, or correctly, and the sashes seemed to be very cheaply made. The constant cold drafts required us to cover the windows, in winter, with plastic film, which left marks on the frames of each window. We have had other Andersen windows installed in 1988 for the living and dining rooms, plus our kitchen. Those windows are doing fine after almost 30 years. So I will admit we like Andersen windows! The representative of Renewal by Andersen, Doug Jimmink, was pleasant and very patient with our questions. I was called when the windows were ready so we could set an installation date and then called again to remind me of the appointment day and time. Greg and Adam were our installers. They arrived on time and did a beautiful job of installing our windows. Our house was left spotless after they finished. They were very pleasant men who paid attention to the job. Greg gave us a demonstration for how to open and clean the windows. My husband and I would highly recommend Greg and Adam. My only problem with the windows is that the pricing is higher than we expected. As seniors on a fixed income, with several serious medical issues, it would be nice to get a break on items that improve our home's value. read more

We had our installation yesterday, and the windows are just absolutely beautiful! Our house was built in the '30's and the windows are all original - single pane, and mostly inoperable. Last year we had "vinyl" windows installed in upstairs bedrooms. Decent enough, however, looked just a little too "cheap". For my downstairs windows, especially in the living room, we wanted a better look. We decided to try Andersen because of the reputation. We already knew the sales process (one price now, another within 30 days, etc.), which right or wrong is standard for the window industry. The windows were definitely pricier than the vinyls, but you really do get what you pay for. It was worth it for us because we want to maintain the look and feel of the original wood windows, while of course having better performance. The installation guys were terrific too - Greg & Adam. Very thorough and meticulous. We've had other home improvement upgrades, and there is nothing worse then contractors that rush through the job and are messy. This was not the case here. They were professional all the way, and took pride in their work. What good would it be to have expensive windows if not installed properly? We're looking forward to *finally* being able to enjoy our downstairs. The windows look fantastic - inside & out, and are easy to operate. I also would add that the Andersen name adds a cache, and I believe will add value to our home in away that vinyl windows just won't. read more

I don't like to post stuff like this but I feel I have no option. I had Renewable by Anderson replace three windows in my home. Salesperson Ralph was amazing guy. It's after where my problems started. I was told how the make sure your windows are sealed. After sometime I started to notice flying insects in my house. We couldn't figure it out. Now mind you we have new windows and it's has to be something else. So after spending of many hours trying to figure it out. Pest control professional said you have a huge gap in your window frame. As you can see to the pictures below. So I called Anderson. They launched and investigated the issue. It was found they didn't do the install correctly. Ok it happens, but now is where my issues really takes off. This all happened in the late summer. Do to scheduling issues I was not able to get someone here to fix it until the end of December. I received a call the other day that they need to reschedule. Now in February!!! The lovely women on the phone said it was out of their control. I asked what was out of their control. It seems they are short staffed. I told her staffing is not my concern that's your job to staff your business correctly. I asked to speak with a supervisor haven't heard back. Guess they're short supervisors also. I guess spending over 14k on windows doesn't matter to them at all. Guess the next round of windows will go to Pella. read more

From start to finish, this was a most positive experience. Barry, our initial contact and salesperson, spent a great deal of time with us, explaining the benefits of Renewal by Andersen, and answering our questions and concerns. Once we made our decision, the process was flawless. We received regular and very clear communications, and were advised every step of the way. When it came to installation, we had a weather challenge, causing us to request a delay (although the installers were willing to work in the freezing rain, if we wanted them to do so...). In order to keep us on schedule, and to help us get 20 windows installed in a timely manner, Andersen sent us a phenomenal team of workers: Shane, Jim, Joe, John, Ryan, Andrew and Harry. It was obvious that they knew their craft, because they worked in sync to get all of our old windows out, and our new windows in, in ONE day! They worked together so well as a team, and their craftsmanship was impeccable. We were amazed at the care they took to prepare the work areas, to check our existing window openings, to correct any problems, and to install the windows. The finishing was beautifully done, and they cleaned up everything meticulously. We are now thoroughly enjoying our beautiful new windows, and the benefits of a draft-free, energy efficient home! I found the whole process very professional. Yes, as others have noted in their reviews, they insisted that my wife be present as well. Being in sales myself, I'm sure that is their recipe for successful sales calls, so I agreed. The salesperson Caroline seemed well informed and pleasant, as well as being prompt for the appointment. After the presentation, I decided to purchase windows for my house. Then Joe came to measure the windows. Again, he was very nice and knowledgeable. I asked a lot of questions pertaining to installation and as to whether or not our blinds would fit with the new windows. He ordered some wood to ensure that the installers had options to ensure the blinds would fit. Then, 4 installers came on the specified day right on time. The crew chief was SLavik. Greg, Fabian, and Dima rounded out the crew. All extremely polite. They started the demo/install and less than 6 hours later all was done. They worked like a well oiled machine. They were neat, using drop clothes in all rooms. Every time they walked into the house, they put on boot covers as not to track in dirt. They vacuumed when finished, and cleaned the yard when done. The experience could not have been better! We love the windows!!! I still struggle with the price I've paid for these windows, but assume that I'm getting what I paid for. Bob D. read more

We were contemplating the replacement of our 15 year old replacement windows because of air leaks and poor fit and decided to sign up for an appointment after the Brookdale Home Show. The sales representative was respectful of our time, and we were in the planning of the appointment. We were quite accustomed to having both husband and wife present for the sales presentation so this part of the process was not problematic. We had installed new Andersen windows in our previous home and knew what we were looking for in replacement windows. We acknowledge the cost factor but since this is our lifetime home, we were prepared to make the investment and appreciated the payment plans available to us for replacing 13 windows. The installation occurred right on schedule, was completed within several hours by a 4-man team who were among the most polite and careful workmen we've ever had in our home. Shane, Joe, John and Ryan worked as a cohesive team and didn't stop until the job was finished; we have their permission to mention them by name. Every window was carefully installed, thoroughly insulated and properly trimmed out inside and out. We have no hesitation at this point in recommending them to our friends and neighbors. read more

We had 6 windows installed on 12/5/16 by the Andersen crew of Joe, Jim, and Andy, wonderful master window installers who completed this large and complicated job between 8:30 AM and 2:30 PM, well under the estimated time. They worked with great skill and efficiency on essentially two window elements for my living room and master bedroom ( 3 windows each). These included curved, 1/2 wagon wheel window toppers, one very large and one smaller. The windows turned out beautifully, and we are very pleased. The products themselves are without comparison. The crew was very mindful of leaving our home at they had found it - cleaned up, furniture that had been pushed aside moved back into place, removal of an unneeded large bedroom shade, to problematic for our own disposal. They were mannerly and well informed, shown especially by Joe during his instructions on the use of the windows at the end of the project. One would be hard-pressed to find better, more likeable workers. What we feared as a nightmare job, instead left us quite pleased and amazed. We can't understand the negative reviews regarding Andersen Windows or their sales representatives. We had every window in our home replaced with Renewal by Andersen and couldn't be more pleased. The salesmen may be a little aggressive, but aren't they all. At least they are selling a great window. These are the second replacement windows in our home (27 in all) in sixteen years. We had issues with the first replacement windows from just about the time they were installed. What really gets us is that we were told they were just as good as Andersen. NO WAY! Our Andersen Windows were installed in three separate segments because of the price, and the first ones which were installed about three years ago look just as good and work just as good as the ones just installed two weeks ago. Had we initially replaced our windows with Andersen, we would have saved ourselves a lot of money and heartache. We are extremely happy with our new Andersen Windows. I just had 21 windows in my home replaced today and everything went without a hitch. The installing team was at my house exactly at the day/time I was given and they completed what was supposed to be a 2-day job in only one day. The foreman was proactive about attending to a couple of small issues that came up and all of the installers were very personable. The prep and cleanup afterward was very impressive. The house hardly looked like anything had been done except for the beautiful windows. The team made a very stressful home improvement project much more tolerable than I could ever expect. Unlike some of the reviews I've read on Yelp, my sales experience with Barry D. was not intimidating. I was told ahead of time to allow for 90 minutes so I set aside the time. I did not feel overwhelmed about making the decision to purchase my windows through RBA. Everything that Barry and I spoke about and put on the contract was done. He even called during the installation to make sure all was going well. I would recommend the Cranford RBA team without reservation. read more

I just want to say what a great experience working with such professional people. First let me start off with Harold. He took his time to show me all the benefits of getting Renewal by Anderson windows. I was very impressed with the product. I was sold. The Renewal by Anderson team kept me informed throughout. While I can't remember the guys name who came to measure, nor the woman's name in the office, they were both helpful and informative. It was the day of installation and Shane and Jim arrived on time and ready to go. They covered the furniture and flooring. They were polite, courteous, and sought my opinion of how things were coming along throughout the day. They wanted me to be pleased with the product and their work. My experience was super from beginning to end. Kyle was here at the scheduled time and explained the entire process. I already knew much of what he told me because I had seen the television ads many times and I paid attention to both the ads and Kyle's presentation. He got me a better discount than advertised because I was replacing all of the 20 windows in the house. When the window measuring rep came he discovered an error in his written instructions and this was quickly corrected with a phone call. After the windows were all measured I received a call from Kyle who apologized for the oversight and the bill was reduced because the new instructions required less work They cleaned up everything promptly and I was impressed with the appearance of the windows, both inside and outside because they put new aluminum edging on all the outside frames. They are very impressive as people approach the house. They kept their word and I am extremely satisfied. The installers really earned the 5 star rating. Everyone knows about Renewal By Anderson. We see several TV ads every day. You don't have to send out obnoxious, belligerent salespeople ringing doorbells in the next county. We had to call the police to get your salesmen to leave. Your rep told my husband "your windows are old". My husband said, he wasn't interested, and your salesperson said "You WILL listen to me!!!" My husband raised his voice and told him to go and he refused. I came to the door and asked the man nicely to please leave and was told he didn't have to because he had a permit. He was arrogant, threatening and told me to go ahead and call the police, that he would wait for them. Why in the world in this day and age of TV, local magazines, Home Advisor and Angie's List, would you have people invading homeowners privacy uninvited anyway??? Yes, I'm thinking about getting new windows, but I will NEVER shop Renewal By Anderson because of your sales tactics. I have the assurance of the Parsippany Police Dept. that your people will not be ringing my bell again. read more

From start to finish, this was a totally professional experience. When I mad the initial appointment, the representative was very clear that we should allow 2 hours. The appointment was confirmed and our salesperson, Lisa Carr arrived on time and was very respectful of our time. All options were explained and demonstrated in a pleasant and expert manner. The next appointment was for final measurements and this gentleman (yes, he was a true gentleman) demonstrated the same respect for our home and time. Just a few days later, I received a phone call reporting that my windows would be ready in a week and the appointment was set. Workmen arrived promptly and immediately got to work installing our 15 replacement windows. Adam, Fabian & Michal were amazing! They worked so quietly and quickly, with such respect for our home and privacy that I felt as if family had come to do the work. Best of all, their craftsmanship was outstanding.
