I called Flat Rate to help me move my furniture from a studio to a storage room, and my clothes all other items into an apartment in another neighborhood. They showed up during their window, and got my stuff PACKED (super neatly and efficiently!) and out the door incredibly fast. I'm going to copy and paste the same review I left to keep this objective. For reference, I have reached out to Customer Support 3 separate times and just reached out a 4th time before leaving a review here: I am very disappointed and displeased with how the move has gone. The move team was set up to arrive between 9 and 10 AM. I was told to reserve my service elevator from 12-3 by the sales representative. The move team completed the loading of the truck by 10:30. Instead of waiting 1.5 hours for access to the service elevator, the move team decided to go complete another job with my stuff in the truck. The move team told me they would be done quickly and would arrive at my destination BY the move in window of 12-3. This was implied to mean by 12. When I called them at 12, I was told they would not get to me until 1:30-2. I begrudgingly accepted this. At 1:30 I spoke to them and was told they would arrive by 2:30. I spoke to sales representative again who put me in contact with dispatch. Dispatch then told me the movers would arrive between 3-3:30. This was outside the original reserved window and I had to request an extension with my building which thankfully they accommodated. At 3:30 I spoke with dispatch who said they would arrive at 4. The sales representative then told me that my items would be in my apartment before 5 pm. I called customer service and nobody picked up. I left a message explaining the ladder. The movers arrived around 4:20 and we're complete with my move in by 4:30. It took them less than 10 minutes to bring up all my items that I had to wait 4+ hours for. This service was completely unacceptable and there were solutions available to dispatch, sales, and the movers themselves to make sure that my move was completed. The only reason the movers are 2 stars is because my items were in tact and taken care of, the movers were kind and apologetic. Once again, I am thoroughly displeased with this service and disappointed with the care delivered to me as a paying client. A true shame. read more

I'm starting off this review by saying I NEVER write reviews, so this one really warranted it. My move was in late June, and went horrendously. The aftermath has matched. And for context, I was moving a small vans worth, and 13 blocks, that was it. My move cost roughly $400, which was originally quoted at about $750+, but FlatRate brought it down after I got a competitive quote. I mention this because I feel this is part of the reason they are no longer responding to me (more on that later). On the day of the move in question, two movers showed up in a black, unbranded van, and I was unsure if everything would fit. Leading up to the move, I had been in contact with FlatRate, telling them both my schedule, and the schedule of my new building as they have a service elevator with a porter that closes at 5, and do not allow moving in the regular elevator. My move window was 2-2:30pm. The movers arrived at 2:30, but then spent half an hour setting up and then breaking down boxes they didn't need (I could see all this from my window as I faced the street). Everything took a while to load, but it was in transit and unloading that problems ensued. They arrived at my new building after 5, so the porter was gone and the service elevator was unusable. The two movers started using the regular elevator, which prompted complaints from residents which then in turn resulted in both the front doorman and super being called to the lobby to tell the movers they couldn't use the regular elevator (which I had also told them). The building team was able to get the porter for the service elevator back, but I had to pay the porter out of pocket for his time. I've sent photos of everything I'm about to say to FlatRate (and they confirmed they saw them before ghosting me), but they snapped the base of my bookshelf (which had been in my family for 40+ years), BROKE a key on my piano keyboard (which is a problem because I'm a musician and the cost of replacing said key is expensive), and put heavy things on top of our Midea U Plus Shaped conditioner, which caused the body of it to snap. Other pieces of furniture had dings, but those were the big three. It took the better part of two weeks to get an appeal offer from FlatRate, which was $100. I had literally WATCHED the movers drop my keyboard as they were unloading the van (and had sent a photo of that as well). I appealed their offer, and two weeks later it went up to $300, which was not enough to fix everything, but at that point it wasn't worth my time trying to fight for it. They said checks would be sent within 21-28 business days. It has been 39 business days since I received an email with an offer to write me a check for $300. 4 voicemails, 3 messages with the front desk, and 5 emails have gone unanswered inquiring where said check was. I've been told twice that I would be called back only to hear nothing. FlatRate, your move. read more

We've used Flat Rate three times now and we will def use them again as needed. Our coordinator, Ming, was fantastic - a timely communicator and she facilitated the form needed by our landlord. When we had a last second complication (not related to Flat Rate) they changed our move by a day without any issue. In short, FlatRate was the most seamless and stress free part of my entire moving process. If it wasn't for the fact that they are reliable and reassuring, I fear I may have truly lost it in all the chaos! This was my first time hiring movers. My family and I have always moved everything on our own but now that I was moving alone, I knew I needed professional help. After much research and numerous quotes from various companies, I knew in my gut that FlatRate was the best option, both in value and overall vibes. The customer service is truly amazing. Communication with both my consultant and dispatch was always fast and clear which I deeply appreciated. Our closing date kept getting delayed week after week because of the seller and I was feeling anxious about needing to reschedule so often but it was never an issue. There is no deposit for scheduling and I wasn't charged until 3 business days before the start of the move so canceling was simple if I needed to. Rescheduling was also free of charge as long as it was done 2 days before the move. Moving day process went smoother than I could have hoped. We had 2 pick up stops so it was a lot overall. The weather was rainy as well. However, the movers were always very friendly and efficient. In terms of service they were careful with everything and disassembled/reassembled big furniture and wrapped them well for the move. Overall, wonderful experience! read more

I really want to give negative 5 stars. I've been a loyal customer contracting flatrate Movers services several times over the years (twice in 2006, 2010, 2018, 2020 and most recently Aug 2025). I will never use them again. The moving crew assigned to me had no integrity. They took 12.5 hours to move a small one bedroom. I had a few odd shaped item that were unboxed and per the moving coordinator, the Movers would pack them for me. Whelp coincidently 90% of the items they were responsible for packing have gone missing. (Space heater, fan/air purifier, boxing gloves, wall hook etc). The crew lied about a broken glass shelf. I feel violated as I tipped these people generously, it was hot so we fed them and ensured they remained hydrated by providing cold beverages. We higher moving companies to help minimize and already stress inducing event not to have you add another layer of anxiety by sending a move crew with no integrity and work ethic who dissappear several times, break, steal or misplace your belongings. Customer Service and Claims is a joke. After weeks of no returned calls or emails I get a terse email stating my claim is closed and a $250 check will be processed. What a joke. It will require more than triple the funds to replace my items and what about my wasted time and awful experience? You all have insurance for this DO BETTER! Flatrate Movers should be ashamed of themselves. I will never use them again nor recommend them to friends and family. read more

The movers arrived on time- great- but arrived without any wardrobe boxes. The inventory list had 8 boxes included for the move, and day of, I was told the closets couldn't be moved. I complained and halfway through the day, 6 boxes arrived so clothes were jammed in and made it to the destination. All our dinner plates and some bowls were broken, but I'll take blame for bad packing and move on from that. The biggest issue came the day after the move. I found one of our vintage pieces damaged- movers broke a leg off and tried to hide it with glue and tape. We only discovered the damage while trying to move the piece in a room, it tipped over. It now stays level w a stack of coasters. I filed a claim, and after 21 days, said claim was closed and would get $100, which isn't even 2% of the cost of the item. I'll note, I also listed this as one of the 3 valuable items in my inventory list. I'm appealing the claim decision. The way the damage was hidden and how the claim was handled is offensive and makes me regret using Flat Rate. read more

I have mixed experience with this company, I started using it when in west coast, it is very professional and quick. Once moved to the east coast, the quality is very different. The last time I used, Bernard, I think he is the quoter, making wired noise and very insulting. On the day of moving, one of the mover is very fluent in English and making excuse to ask for more money. The moving broke some of my furniture, and at the end, that guy ask for tips, from he has grandma need to be taking care of and sth about roommate. He asked for the tips in the public area and loud. After much pain and suffering sleepless nights and days full of tears I appealed the claim and they only sent me a refund for the tv and part of the VIOLATED CONTRACT and get this they ASKED ME TO TAKE DOWN MY REVIEW. My experience of being violated by these crooks must stay in order to deter others from being ripped off like me. I am filing a complaint with the better business bureau and I have contacted the consumer affairs reporters at the local news stations. I spoke with two lawyers who advised me that the request/ demand to take down my reviews is extremely unethical, and that I cannot be compelled to take anything down, which is why I am letting FLAT RATE MOVING and the world know that I won't be intimidated. The guys who moved me in and out (two moves, stuff in storage in between) were very helpful and careful. But I was charged an extra $662 in error -- after about 10 emails and phone calls I got them to acknowledge the mistake and promise a refund (in writing!) but 2 weeks later it still has not appeared. There is also a stroller that never turned up and no one will respond to my requests for help. Moral: don't expect help if anything goes wrong and don't trust their promises! read more

The movers will damage and steal your things due to incompetence and they company does nothing about it. BEWARE!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! THEY ONLY SENT ENOUGH MOVERS TO DO HALF THE JOB, AND THEY DAMAGED MY FURNITURE!! They only sent two movers for a four person job, and they were two hours late; so they only had time to move everything into the basement of my new bldg, and I HAD TO MOVE EVERYTHING FROM THE BASEMENT OF MY BUILDING INTO MY NEW APT MYSELF WITH MY SUPER AND A FRIEND!! We broke our backs finishing the move ourselves! With only the two movers, it took five hours just load the contents of my one bedroom apartment onto the truck, and then they left my belongings unattended on the truck all day, which I didn't realize until later. I asked for a full refund for an incomplete job that cost me a ton more money, work, stress, and physical labor and they said they'd give me 20% back after only doing half the job!!! Military PPM Move: terrible experience with FlatRate. The movers were great! No issues with my stuff. The issue was with the admin. I started the process in SEP2023 and told them I was moving for a military move and would need weight tickets. The representative I was working said she would pass this information to the crew who was packing my stuff in TX. When my things arrived in WA in OCT, I asked the unloading crew if they had the weight tickets. They did not. I reached out to the same representative and asked if the crew who moved my things in San Antonio had the weight tickets. It was discovered that the crew was never instructed to get weight tickets for this move. I also later learned since this was a military move, I should've been directed to the military department to ensure I got weight tickets. I had to call the company multiple times to get some sort of solution, and only two people I happened to talk to helped make the process smooth. I also had to work through the proper military department to help me get reimbursed for this move. Luckily, in MAR24 I was finally reimbursed the ~$7300 it cost for this move. However, I would've been compensated more if I had the weight tickets, and I would not have had to wait 5 months to get reimbursed. Move #4502520. read more

I am incredibly disheartened with how this company is treating their customers. They literally ghosted me. Got me to sign a contract and have literally provided no communication afterwards. Nobody from customer service will pick up my calls and the sales person 'assigned' to my move won't even respond to my emails. I honestly can't even fathom how they've been operating as a company for so long. I will be reporting them to the better business bureau and filing a complaint with the NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection. Hopefully these people will get what they deserve for making people's lives stressful. If there was a zero star option I would have given it. They delivered all of the numbered boxes but as we were opening them we had someone else's box, we immediately sent it back and they could not find our missing box. We opened a claim and we had also paid for insurance. the denied the claim since we signed the BOL saying we got all boxes. We appealed the claim, they then gave us a fraction of the value that was in the missing box. It took months to get it resolved, they ignored me and in the end we lots over 1K worth of valuables, not sure why they had me purchase insurance... Will never use them again. read more
