Overall this is a solid restaurant... My husband and I visited this restaurant I believe a year or two ago we came one night for dinner and everything was delicious I'm not a big soul food person so every now and again I'll go out with my husband for a soul food dinner. Even though our first visit here was about 2 years ago we did visit this past Saturday with two other couples to celebrate our husbands for husband appreciation day which is the third Saturday in April always. We had reservations for Saturday at noon and we arrived right on time and our space was already set for us. Our waitress/bartender Alize took care of us... very personable ...very sweet... customer service was a 10 out of 10. I will make mention ahead of time I did order cornbread later on and I never got it :( Omg! I did call but no answer so I figured I would just go ahead and charge it to the game but I was definitely looking forward to trying the cornbread with my grits. The ambience inside is definitely welcoming the music is not blasting definitely a comfortable volume. The parking can be an issue but we didn't have one. Parking was available on the street and it was only a short walk for us to get to the restaurant. Our meals out of the six of us present I believe at least half of us ordered the catfish one person ordered the turkey chops and that was basically the gist of our meals. I don't think anybody ordered any straight up breakfast food but I will say everybody was in agreeance that this meal and dining experience was amazing! We will definitely be back soon and we definitely recommend you trying out this restaurant. My meal in particular I had the grilled catfish and created my grits with honey jalapeno and butter and oh my goodness everything was good from beginning to end. Our drinks were top-notch as well! The bartender even made up a drink for one of the wives at the table. She didn't know what she wanted but wanted to be surprised and she was pleasantly surprised she ordered another one. I have to say the josh puppies, were probally the best ones I've ever had! I've ordered Renee's take out before and doordash. However eating it as soon as it was prepared was a totally different experience. My yams were sweet but no too sweet, and if you like spice, definitely get the cabbage! I was surprised tues- Thursday kids eat free with a full priced entree so my little one was able to eat free! The service was nice, and attentive. When visiting from out of town, I always look for local businesses to try to patronize not a large chain. Looking at the decor, menu and location I decided to give this place a try. Initially we wanted to go Friday night with live music it just didn't work out Sunday brunch we were the first customers there we were greeted at the door by a pleasant server. The menu was pretty extensive we went with breakfast options. I got the Chuckatuck mainly because it's where my family lived in 1900. My husband got the breakfast burger. He didn't read it and did not realize how massive this thing was three pancakes two eggs and a burger. He had a deconstruct it. The pancakes were absolutely delicious, they were fluffy with a nice light flavor a hit of vanilla or something and warm syrup. I chose sausage it was the basic breakfast sausage. His burger was really big. We had to take some home. Luckily, there was a cooler already in the car. The food came out in pieces, which was a little annoying. My husband was halfway finish his food when mine arrived. Nicely decorated place a large space for family, friends, group or events . All in all, it was a good experience. Would I go back again? What's this restaurant/lounge lacked in taste on certain items, definitely made up in customer service and hospitality by the owners. I can literally see myself coming back here on a Friday or Saturdaynight enjoying music, fun times and laughter. I ordered Shrimp and grits (like I always do). The grits were good, but I wish there was a roux or sauce ...My daughter had a kids waffle which was DELICIOUS!! I ate a quarter of hers because I couldn't help myself. EJ ordered the catfish dinner which was very good. He claims the hush puppies were amazing( he ate them all so I couldn't try them). The fish was battered but cooked to perfection. The First time that we visited was on Easter Monday, and we did not know they were closed on Mondays. We tried it again on Saturday. We just missed a big crowd. The festival was going on, so we went at the right time, around 3 pm. I ordered the turkey chops, yams, and mac and cheese. The sides are in these little cups. I ordered a drink, and it was 12.00 served in a little plastic cup and not a glass. The water was served in a plastic cup first. So silly of me to think the mixed drink would be in a cup the same size as the water. The appetizer was a little pricey, and the egg rolls were $19.00, which were Philly steak egg rolls. They increased in price on the menu. I could see where it was marked out and the price hike. No big deal. However, the food did not come out hot. The gravy was canned gravy and very dark. I know when gravy is made from scratch and when it's not. The mac and cheese was average, nothing spectacular. The yams were canned yams and not fresh sweet potatoes. They charged extra for the gravy. The fried turkey chop was dry and not juicy. They brought me both to try, which was nice of the owner. The corn bread my friend ordered was extra. A nice thing would be to serve it complimentary, like the good old days of Roger Brown's when the father was running it, but then the son took over, and you got nothing but a huge bill. Next, my colleague ordered the spicy pork chop with a honey glaze. She said it was too spicy for her and she was going to go home and rinse it off. I like spicy, and I wish I had her sauce on my turkey chop because mine was dry as a bone. She ordered two sides as well. I believe yams and cabbage or something. Ok, so if you come to Renee's, please pay with cash. I got a service charge of almost 5.00 on my bill. I did not like that, so that put a damper on the 18% tip. None of the tables had been wiped off. The girl came and wiped the table, and it was wet while we sat. That was not cool. The guy came over with a dry napkin and wiped it off at first. smh Overall, the ball was huge, which I did not sit at, and the place was spacious. I have both positives and negatives for this spot I love the storefront it is a beautiful addition to Main Street and I've been wanting to try here for quite some time. My coworker realized it was taco Tuesday so we decided to call and check the details. The lady on the phone seemed a little bit distracted, but tried to help us, she did rub us a little wrong when we were going to try to order the tacos instead of just saying nicely, we're not set up to take orders over the phone she was like well if you're not paying I can't take it and it kind of came off a bit rude even when we said that we were going to walk over her demeanor was not set to making the customer happy she did inform us that the tacos don't take long at all so my friend headed over It took sooo long she had to extend her break to pick up out orders which were just two orders of beef tacos and when we received them they did not look like hard to assemble tacos all of the topping were on the side other than lettuce and cheese But after we got over the less than great customer experience we tried the tacos They were really yummy and had a good flavor I liked the pico de gallo a lot next time im definitely planning on trying some desserts those sound amazing and my coworker said they were humongous Definitely looking to give Renee's a second chance to impress me lol. Ok, so we visited after church because our friends had a great experience the week before. The owners are very nice, food good but this day, the service was just bad. 1. We were a party of five with two tickets. The waitress took 3 drink orders and not the other 2. 2. The waitress then took the food orders for 2 but not the other 3. 3. We never received parts of our order, i.e. Mac-n-cheese yet we also reminded waitress we were missing it. 4. Eggs were ordered over medium but received well done. 5. Received 4 Diet Cokes and 1 Coke Zero in 8-10 ounce glasses with mostly ice. Requested refills on two occasions by separate members of party, never received them. 6. Upon paying, we never got to see the bill before paying because it was on her iPad. She stated, "I will print after you pay". Well, upon looking, we had a 20% service charge not disclosed and we tipped as well because we had no idea they had a service charge of 20%. This was not good service at all. It's unfortunate but not a unrecoverable because maybe it was just a bad day for the waitress or she was new but she never asked if we needed refills, how was the food, she was asked for the missing Mac-n-cheese and for refills twice and never brought them. The Service Charge not being disclosed and not seeing a check before paying are two things that need changed from a business management perspective and training of wait staff can fix the other items. My friend and I visited on a Thursday for lunch. She ordered the whiting dinner and I ordered the patty melt. Food took a while to come out even though we were the only ones in the restaurant. My food actually came out 20 minutes after hers. The waitress stated that since I wanted my burger well done, it takes 15 minutes to cook the burger. I then get my burger on a brioche bun. The menu states sour dough bread. I tell the waitress that I ordered the patty melt. She stated that it is the patty melt. I always try to find a spot in Suffolk to have a meal. I'm glad I picked Rennee's! Parking was easy to find and just a short skip to the restaurant. As soon as we walked in, you could tell it was a vibe. Nice music playing, tv with the game on and people enjoying each others company. I love to see locals enjoy places and each other. Gives a family type of environment. We ordered wings and fries with string beans and shrimp w/fries and collards. Portion size was good (I took home leftovers). The spicy old bay wings were good and so were the collards. I didn't eat a lot of my fries because the other sides were so good. My waitress was Karla and she was so nice..she kept checking on us while we were there. Also met TJ!! He sat down and chatted with us for a good little bit. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! What a beautiful Sunday spending time with my family. The weather was very nice (75 degrees). My husband suggested brunch. After checking out reviews, we decided to go to Plaid Turnip but there was an 1.5 hour wait so our plan B was Renee's restaurant and lounge. We arrived at Renee's and waited 5 minutes at the door before we were even greeted and instructed to seat ourselves. We should've turned around then but our bellies told us otherwise. BIG MISTAKE! It took the waitress 15 minutes to come over. We placed our food and drink order, received our drinks 15 minutes later, and then the true wait game began. 40 minutes later, my husband asked, "how much longer!" The waitress replied, "it shouldn't be that much longer. There was a large party in the back." After 20 more minutes (it's now been an hour)...still NO FOOD, so we decided to cash out on our drinks and leave (the manager didn't charge my husband for the drinks). We should've been notified prior to being serviced that the kitchen staff was behind and that would have been our option to stay. One and done! My family and I will NEVER visit this place again!
