I've been to this shop a couple times and I know they are coin dealers and have good knowledge because a store had coin in their name doesn't mean they have good experience with coins some are just silver and gold shops. I've made the trip up from Olympia a couple times for a quality coin unseen and got a great value. There's a lot of scammers out there and this place isn't one. read more

The sun is out, the weather is clear and the forecast is clear for the rest of the day. I drive 15 minutes to find out about an Indian head nickel, 16 wheat ear pennies ranging from 1918 to 1962, a quarter from 1893, a 1963 liberty bell half dollar, an Eisenhower dollar and 2 Indian head pennies. The sign on the door says closed due to weather but the door is unlocked. I open it, hoping/thinking they've realized there's no snow storm coming. I see two older individuals and even though I can't hear them they were gesturing that they were still closed. I'd say lock your doors or take down the sign and serve your customers. Really bizarre experience with this shop. Looking to spend some money on silver as a gift for my friend but I also wanted to look around and see what else they might have. Maybe I would find something more special. First, had to ring a bell to get the attendant attention, then was pretty roughly asked what I wanted. I say, "I'm looking to buy silver." She let me in the door and then I come to a counter, I asked "Oh is the shop through there?" She said, "Nope this is it. There's only two of us here so this is it what are you looking for?" I said, "OK how much are you selling silver eagles for?" She gave me the price for eagles and rounds. I said, "Well I kinda like to browse too, is the shop not open?" She repeated that there were only two of them there. I said, "Well there's only one of me but if you don't want me to come in, I guess I'll go." Weirdest experience ever. She literally would not let me into the actual shop. I don't understand how that is good for business or how a business can benefit from not allowing customers to see their inventory. Not only do I trust the staff, but they've also become part of the family. Our daughter was gifted foreign coins on her first visit to the shop. This has obviously left an impression on her and is a wonderful way to attract the younger generation. During the pandemic, the store has had limited capacity to display inventory; however, the staff/team is friendly and willing to go the extra mile to help you. They have great inventory and options. Location is in downtown Renton, conveniently near I-405, the parking is street parking only. It's got a triangular floor plan with several glass cases filled with collectible US notes and coins. They have some foreign currency also. But I went here to purchase some silver coins. They have generic rounds for sale that are spot + 1.25$ per coin. They also have some gold bullion. I came in to have a few old coins evaluated, and Steve was quick to give me MORE information then I really needed, but he is just so knowledgeable and friendly it must come naturally. Went here and checked out their shop, the lady who entertained us is really nice and she knows what she's talking about when it comes to silver and gold coins. They also have plenty of coin selection. It looked nondescript but these are honest people. My husband already had several experience dealing with them in the past that's why he suggested that we go to this place again. If you are into coin collections, this is the place for for you. Wow things sure have changed since COVID. The store is completely different from the last time I was there (pre-COVID). It used to be a nice little retail shop where you could browse their stock and have a nice conversation with friendly folks. Now, not so much. A locked door and a window and a very unfriendly lady who basically told me to sit down and wait and she would get around to me if/when she felt like it. Even though I had about $1k to spend on coins today, I just left because I didn't care for the unfriendly vibe. Not sure what caused them to change, maybe they got robbed or something. I had a real soft spot for this location because it was where I bought my first gold coin, but I seriously doubt I'll ever go back. read more

I read the Yelp reviews on coin shops in the Seattle area and decided to go with Renton Coin Shop because: The reviews on Yelp (and elsewhere) were very good). I live in Renton and like doing business locally. I am dubious about reviews of other well rated coin shops that mention radio advertising and radio personalities . . . those reviews strike me as perhaps not being from real customers. And for me, the crucial element is that Renton Coin Shop has been open since 1964. It was obvious who the owner was. He was a fine mixture of business and sense who carried a pistol in a holster on his hip. This didn't bother me because their goods (especially gold and silver) are quite valuable. The Renton Coin Shop itself, while not big, was just the right size and it was busy but (on a Monday afternoon) I didn't see anyone wait longer than 15 minutes to speak with an employee. I waited about five minutes on a very comfortable upholstered bench. I was there well over two hours and it is obvious the staff is friendly with each other, had good relationships with regular customers and were informative and courteous to new customers. The (free) on street parking worked just fine for me. Most of what I had for them was old coins. Scott is who helped me and he was quite professional and kept me well informed about how he estimated the value of my goods. I also had a little bit of gold, a 2/3 carat diamond and some old watches. While I did not shop around for the "best" deal, I was quite surprised with the amount of cash in my pocket when I went out the door. The next day I returned with a few "straggler" items and they continued to be courteous and informative and I left with a few more bucks in my pocket. All-in-all an excellent experience and I highly recommend this business. read more

I have been to Renton coin three or four times. The first time is the reason I will keep coming back. My wife had a 14k gold bracelet that was ruined. She was never going to sell it so I weighed it, looked up the value of gold and went to A different store. I have no issue with a company making money. In fact, I expect them to. However I do not want to be ripped off. After receiving the quote from the first coin place I decided to go to Renton Coin. I so glad I did. 1st they gave my daughter a coin from the store. 2nd they paid me a fair price that left room for them to make a profit. I was very happy. Absolutely love this place. Nice staff, clean store. And very ice assortment of coin and paper money. The owners are knowledgeable and kind when talking to us "less experienced" collectors. We have bought a lot of coins and supplies from here and every time they serve us with a smile. Couple things to know- They are closed Wednesdays; for appts only. Absolute terrible service. I don't know why but they had absolutely no interest what so ever in acknowledging my existence. I went in on a slow day with only one other shady looking customer (obviously casing the place) inside and it was like they didn't want to listen to what I had to offer or buy. It was like I was talking to a wall. Then the lady who was sort of helping me disappears because she didn't want to look at what I was offering and it was damn good stuff and gave me melt prices for it because it was too much trouble on such a busy day to be bothered to look up grey sheet prices. The other guy would rather read a magazine! I picked up my stuff and walked out for the last time. If you don't have slabs or gold you might as well pack it in and forget it. A friend had referred me here and told how good her experience was so I stopped here first. I was warmly greeted. I showed my pieces to Brian and Lisa and was able to ask questions about them. They educated me on what each piece was worth and why. They explained everything thoroughly and paitiently. The customer service I received was awesome! I cant begin to say enough good things about Renton Coin Shop. I have gone in twice now with a handful of questions and a puzzled face, and walk out with an education! This last time I went in with some scrap gold/silver and a small jar of old and foreign coins... not knowing a thing about the value of any of it. I came in to have a few old coins evaluated 1) Sharp, Full Liberty 1893 Indian Head Cent, 2) Full Motto 1865 U.S. Two Cent Piece - Tough to Find and a penny that was the sixe of a dime. The gentlemen that looked at them just said that I had abut 6 dollars worth of coins. will I'M a experienced coin collector for 35 years.. Why he did catch the spoon penny he missed the price on the others. The 1865 U.S. Two Cent Piece at the g-4 is $17 but mine is a AU 50 between $65 and $72. and the Full Liberty 1893 Indian Head Cent +4 full DIAMONDS. Is EF 40/45 between $19 and $23. My suggestion is too treat all your costumers as having some knowledge of what they have. and one last thing way over priced I use the red book for prices and the on the average 20% over book price. you can buy the same coins on eBay for 1/2 of there price. and if your lucky even more..... read more

Don't go there if you want to be treated with any respect. Lousy service and wouldn't even offer melt prices for coins I brought in. Wouldn't even look for a coin they thought was upstairs, which I wanted to buy. Asked about a value of a 100$ star note they said to ask the other guy. 4 clerks stood around and did nothing never came to help. Waited around for at least 20 minutes. They never helped a black guy waiting longer then me. Are they a bunch of racists or just idiots? read more

Decent coin store to go to. I feel like I'm welcome here being the oddball female coin collector. They have yet to give me a bad experience. You can easily exchange lesser coins for a better one. They offer great advice, help you value your coin collection and give great deals if they like you. I would highly recommend this location. This is a nice little coin shop nestled in down town Renton. Parking can be some what of a challenge due to the location. If you don't mind walking a little this isn't an issue. Rather impressed with this location. Like most places they mark up their products a little but it's not bad. I think it's about 10-15%.
