Renu is a great place. I personally like it a lot. If I am in the area, I will go here. It is very friendly. The front staff is a little awkward though. And the waiting area sucks. They need to update that a lot. But, you usually are not waiting that long if you arrive on time. Here are the services I have had: Waxing - If you need waxing done, go here. BUT, warning, not all the waxers are good here. Some will wax you super fast, not really check it over, and let you leave. Not good. HOWEVER, some are amazing and will take time and talk to you and make sure they get every single hair. Spray tan - I had this done and not a huge fan. The lady who did this wasn't great. She was new and ended up getting fired from doing this I think. (Not positive, but I bet she did.) I know what of the people who does the spray tans now is the same lady who does waxes and she's great at waxing, so I'm almost positive she will be great at doing spray tans. Will get one soon and will report back. Those are really the only services I have had. The place is very outdated though. This is mainly the place to just go waxing. (At least for me.) Other than that, I like Renu. I will definitely try out there other services. read more

Prior to my wedding I was researching spas to treat myself to multiple services to relax and refresh just before the big day. I live in the city and was looking outside of Chicago for an even more relaxing atmosphere. I ended up picking this spa based on some of the reviews and their advertisement for their "Bridal Care" on their website. For the amount of money and time spent at the salon, I was disappointed with the overall experience. When I walked in, the receptionist seemed confused with the services I had booked, and the waiting room just seemed busy, with flustered staff and an underwhelming/cluttery waiting area. Without trying to sound like a Bridezilla, I just didn't get that "we'll take care of you, you relax, it's almost your big day" type of special feeling that a Bride-to-be is looking for. Instead I felt like I was being shuffled around the spa in a somewhat inattentive manner. I understand that varying services are provided by different estheticians in different rooms, but nothing about it really seemed intimate. The services themselves (wrap, massage, facial) were of good quality but my disappointment lies in the overall experience. If you are going to drop hundreds of dollars to pamper yourself before your wedding, you really want it to feel special, which this experience lacked. read more

Came here for my birthday and it was magical. My mother and I got the package that includes the manicure, pedicure, hot stone massage, and facial. I left feeling like a new born baby. Soft, happy, and glowing. The facial included a hand and foot massage. Spectacular. I've never felt so pampered. The manicure and pedicure was done using a quick drying paint to prevent smudging during our other treatments AND it lasted longer than any I've had before. No chipping? I was thrilled! Excellent and friendly service, I'd recommend this place to anyone who is celebrating a special occasion or in need of some self care. So I decided to send my wife on a day spa here for her birthday. I gave her directions and told her to arrive at the address without telling her where she was going. I called and made a body rehab package appointment. She has never been there, neither have I, and said she had the best 3 hours ever. She also really enjoyed the fabulous care and attention Izabela gave her. So I am writing this thanking the employees for the exquisite customer service and amazing spa combination. The spa is located in a remodeled home, which makes you feel like you're in your own home. The owner is Polish, I think, and she LOVES dogs (so much so that she personally cooks for them). The staff I believe is mostly polish/russian/etc. They all are extremely nice and well trained in their craft. I use this spa for waxing, and I couldn't be happier with the results. I think I might have a higher tolerance for pain, but I generally don't have any problem. My sister who is a big wuss, doesn't either though. If you need a wax I'd tell you to go here, I don't trust anyone else with my brows and bikini other than them. read more

Pros - a good massage (how you can go wrong with that?), friendly therapists, peaceful massage room environment. Cons - because this day spa is primarily focused on manicures and pedicures, the moment you enter, you are blasted with the very strong smell of nail polish and remover. Even in the "waiting area" there was clutter and additional mani/pedi equipment. Was disappointed at the crowded reception. No place to really relax before a massage. Other fine spas I regularly attend offer hot herbal tea, foot soak, heated shoulder drapes, etc. in a calm, peaceful and relaxed waiting area. What an absolutely wonderful first impression for Renu. I'm in town visiting from New Orleans and the dreary Chicago weather today plus a 6 am flight had me worn down, almost to the point of feeling like I had a head cold coming. I decided to give Renu a shot especially because they had a $5 off coupon for massages. Luckily, their masseur Tom was available for a 90 minute hot stone massage. They give you the choice of four different essential oil scents you can use with your massage and a clear explanation to the benefits of each one. The spa is a little hard to find since it's tucked away. They have a complete men's waxing menu and two technicians that do male waxing. I had an appointment with Celina. I filled out the information sheet and was immediately taken by Celina to the waxing room. She explained everything and was very welcoming. During the waxing we talked about vacationing which keeps your mind off the procedure. She kept all parts of your body covered except the area she was working on. The exterior of Renu's building is quaint and cozy, but when I entered the lobby felt a little crowded and cluttered with what seemed to be overflow spa equipment (a massage chair, a pedicure chair, etc). I came in for a facial and the esthetician was quick to try to sell me on an upgrade to organic products (which would have cost me $20 or $25 more). I declined, and we proceeded with the facial. When it came time to apply my mask, the esthetician said, "I'm going to use an organic mask, okay?" I foolishly assumed that she was getting my go ahead to use a product other than the line we had previously discussed - not an unspoken request to do a partial upgrade that would increase the cost of my total services - but I was wrong. The final bill came out to higher than what I had signed up for. That said, I didn't let it bother me too much. I typically try to tip generously, but instead I used the extra gratuity money to pay the uptick in spa charges. Renu is close and convenient on my commute home from work, but their service practices aren't consistent with the types of places that I like to give my business to and spend my money. I am, in all regards, a spa whore. I have been to spas the world over, and have gone back to specific destinations just for the spa. ReNu is my favorite local spa. I will go for weeks without a manicure because I don't trust other places. Renu is just so damn clean! Everything is disposable, from the foot file and brush to the pedicure tub liner. They even toss the pedi tools in front of you after they are done. Their products are fantabulous, and a lot of their scrubs and oils are made in-house. I have super sensitive skin, and I've never had a reaction to a facial or body treatment here. The whole place just smells yummy, everyone is friendly and it doesn't have that white-walled sterile spa feel. The staff remember you and always address you by name. One big plus, the owner insists that all her employees speak English, even to each other, so that no customer ever feel uncomfortable. My husband is an immigrant, I get it and have no problem with others speaking their own language. But I've been to places where the staff speaks to each other in their native language and never talk to the client. It's really hard to relax in an atmosphere like that ... I digress. She has worked with me on my poor back and is really knowledgable and SO DAMN strong...for all of you who think you need a deep tissue by a dude(me at one point) Agnus is better! I have been going here for mani & pedis for about 10 yrs. It is not what it used to be. I has been in decline for the last few years. I keep saying I'm not going here anymore but habit and convenience get the best of me. Much turn over in help, although instruments are nicely sanitized and new files for every client, the place is a mess. Clutter everywhere, yuck...not soothing at all. Manicurists are rushed and not accomidating. Last manicure I did not get a massage because the manicurist told me the lotion woud ruin the shine of the polish...what??? I'm done!! Had a terrifying experience at this spa. Went in for a standard facial and walked out with burns covering the lower half of my face. Pictures would be too gruesome to share. It's been 24 hours and I am still in significant pain. Please be careful and consider using a doctor's office for facials. I am hoping not to have scarring from this nightmare. I don't use any fancy or medical products regularly so there is no reason any quality product should have caused this kind of scabbing and burns. Sadly, the high-strung owner cared more about threatening to call her lawyer instead of having a frank conversation about not using this product to protect future consumers. I have gone to Renu Day Spa about 4 times for massages and each time has been a great experience!! I live in the city but drive to Renu in Deerfield because they are just that good. The staff is amazing! I have been getting massages for more than 15 years and Kinga is the absolute BEST!!!! She is amazing at what she does and is incredibly pleasant and friendly!She discusses your problem areas afterwards and gives suggestions. I look forward to every visit. DO NOT EVER GO THERE!!! I tried to book a spa day. The appointments I wanted were 5 hours of services. When I called on Wednesday night I asked for Mon or Fri. They said they would have to get back to me. No problem I understood. They called me back the next day and RYAN left me a message (it was 9:11 am on Thursday) telling me times and could I please call back by 5:30 on Saturday to confirm the appointments. I then got a text from them at 4:51 Thursday saying I now need to call by 7pm Thursday with my credit card number or they would take it that I didn't want my appt. How did it go from needing to confirm by Saturday at 5:30 to the same day Thursday by 7 in less than 7 hours? I called at 6:40 when I got out of work. I didn't want them to cancel!! I asked if I could call them Friday with my credit card number since I wouldn't be home til after 7. I wanted to look at my calendar and verify I had no conflict since I hadn't been home and just found out at 6:40 what time my appointments on Monday were for. The nice woman said that she would leave a note that I had called and would be calling back with my CC number. I then get a call again from RYAN now leaving me a message at 9:50 am Thursday stating if I didn't call them back within an hour that they were going to cancel my appt. WHAT?!? I called in at 10:30am and asked RYAN why he left me a message on Thursday saying I had til Saturday at 5:30 to confirm and now you are threatening to cancel the appointments if I don't call back in an hour?!? He then precedes to tell me he never left me a message saying that. I tell I have the message with the date/time stamp and he still lied saying he never left a message. That infuriated me. He was lying about a message. What is that?!? Really?!? I have the message I started to play it for him and he handed the phone to someone else. She seemed to be nice and listened to the situation. She seemed to understand that he didn't handle any of it correctly. The owner ANNA then called me back. She preceded to yell at me and not let me say one word. She didn't care how one employee(RYAN) and his lie started this whole situation. How do you give so many different times by which I need to confirm? She didn't care nor listen to anything about how things were handled. As she continue to yell (I'm still not able to say anything) she tells me she is canceling my appointments! WHAT?!?So she is going to punish her therapist by canceling a 5 hour appt?!? ANNA wants to stand by the side of an employee(RYAN) who lied but has no problem canceling appts of clients who did nothing but merely try to book a relaxing day. I called THEM to make the appt and then returned their message the same day. What about my actions prompted all this doubt if I wanted my appt? They never gave me the chance to call them back on Friday. He called me at 9:50 I was at work. I called back at 10:30 which was the first chance I got on Friday. I was calling to give my credit card but first asked him why he left a message early threatening to cancel my appt. I wonder how the the therapist feels that she went from having her share of $350 plus gratuity (at least $70) of appts to maybe 1 or 2 appts on a MONDAY the least busy day at any salon or spa. So BEWARE do not support this business. The owner ANNA doesn't care about how the customers are treated or how her business is running!!! read more
