I've been dying to try for quite some time and it finally happened. Upon entering I was stuck by the ambiance and bar. The entire restaurant was a vibe. All dark and intimate. My sister and I started with shots and oyster Rockefellers. They were so dang good and fulfilling actually. It was my bday so I chose the walk of shame cocktail, and by the end of dinner I can see why the limit is 2. It was a good tipsy. Lol. My sister went with the margarita and I liked the hint of spice it had. For dinner I went with the scallops and the butternut squash risotto was perfection. Great experience last night! The space was very comfortable, fancy but not pretentious. We started with a charcuterie board which was absolutely loaded and the bone barrow app which was a nice twist on the usual route restaurants go with this item - you cannot go wrong with meat butter! Upon arrival I had my temperature checked by the hostess. I had a reservation but it was pretty empty (7pm on a Tuesday) so the hostess let me pick wherever I wanted, including the large booth all to myself! I ordered the Earl Street Sour and it was better than I could even imagine. The egg white on top was so soft and pillowy and lasted until my very last drop. I was torn between the dumplings or the burger and the waitress told me that the maple jam on the burger made it over the top! I went with her suggestion & it did not disappoint. I've never had to slurp a burger while eating it before, but this one was so juicy that it was essential. Not pictured are brussel sprouts that I took to go. They were absolutely amazing! My husband and I were back in town for a wedding and were recommended to eat here so we stopped in for happy hour. Everything was so good that we decided to stay for dinner. We were easily seated at the bar and had some of the bartenders choice cocktails which was a margarita today. To go with our drinks, we ordered some oysters, the smoked beef tartar, and wings. Everything was spectacular, we especially loved how the smoked tartar was served it really added to the atmosphere of the place. Since our appetizers were so good, we decided to order the scallops to split for dinner. They were perfectly seared and the pumpkin risotto was the highlight of the night. Repeal 33- Savannah, GA- 4.5 Stars Continuing my journey north up the Eastern Seaboard, I stopped in the oldest city within the confines of the state of Georgia, the seaport of Savannah. As charming as this 'burb is, I had a job to do and time was a' tickin'. Glancing at my random name generator, I punched in my current location and was met with the words, Repeal 33, blinking innocuously at me. After a bit of research by my trusty SoCal editor, I found out that Repeal 33 is part of a local restaurant group headed by the "creative team behind Prohibition...Offering delectable Southern-based cuisine brought to you by Jim McCourt and acclaimed chef Greg Garrison". The team behind this group was obviously onto a theme as not only was this named after the Amendment that legalized Prohibition, but it was elegantly decorated in a speakeasy style. I found the whole place as alluring as the heart of the city in which it sits. I was shown a table, handed a menu and left to my own devices for a bit until Antoinette came over and introduced herself as my waitress for the evening. Antoinette knew the menu forward and backward, ticked off the specials like she came up with the menu herself and was otherwise professional, engaging and just downright outstanding. I requested a 912 cocktail ahead of my 8 oz. Angus burger (medium-rare), along with the Grouper catch of the day upon a bed of succotash and fingerling potatoes. Informing me to ask her if I needed anything else, Antoinette eloquently departed to drop my drink order off at the bar on her way to the kitchen. Comprising rye whiskey, orgeat, lemon, orange, peach bitters and Peach Red Bull, one would think the 912 cocktail would be a smidgen on the sweet side. However, upon one sip, I found that not to be the taste. This cocktail was mixed and layered by a true master at their profession with the Rye commanding your attention. Well done, Barkeep! Taking my time enjoying this delectable "potent potable", I finished just as Antoinette reappeared with the order. Picking up the burger, I took one bite and knew we had a winner in the back. The Angus burger was grilled to a perfect medium-rare, the fingerling potatoes were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside incredibly tasty and the accompanying aioli sauce was some of the finest I have yet to devour. It was clean, mild and in no way infringed on the wondrous flavor exuding from the fingerlings. The Grouper catch of the day was as good as it sounds. The fish was done to perfect flakiness and the bed of succotash and fingerling potatoes were set with care atop a truly ambrosian offering of a beurre blanc sauce with mild oyster flavorings. Seriously, this meal was outstanding. I will keep an eye on the head chef here, Greg Garrison. I think this human has a full and lustrous career in the culinary arts ahead of him and I, for one, can't wait to taste it! This spot served me the absolute best margarita I have ever had. Hands down. The SPF margarita came with tequila, passion fruit, lime, agave and spicy tincture. The drink blew me away-- sweet but not overly sweet. A strong amount of heat, but not too much that I had to push it away. I ordered two. And I never order two of anything. The bar staff couldn't have been friendlier and the ambiance was warm and cozy, even with our large group and a lot of people gathered around the bar area. I took a large party (7 people) and apparently they have problems in Savannah with large parties not showing up, so I couldn't reserve it on OpenTable; instead I had to call and they asked for a credit card and they charged a small amount to it. No big deal but just be prepared. They're not the only place in town that does this. The food was wonderful. Between us we had the rib-eye, the shrimp and grits, and the scallops. All were excellent. We also had the octopus appetizer -- it was small, but octopus is expensive -- it was prepared quite well. Everyone enjoyed the food and the server was excellent too. But my favorite part of the meal was the word salad I got when I tried to order a Manhattan. I don't like to order expensive liquor in one of those but I don't like the cheap stuff either, so I always ask for Bulleit. They don't carry it. EVERYONE has Bulleit, from the really good bars to the crummy one near my home. EVERYONE. The word salad came (after I pressed her) when she tried to explain that they have some grudge against the Bulleit family (which I'd NEVER heard about) and they're basically not WOKE enough so they want to cancel Bulleit. Good luck with that... So if you go, make SURE you order some Bulleit and press the server for an explanation. Other than that, the meal was great. And I'm not going to try to "cancel" them (fat chance) by leaving a low rating. But I am removing a star because I couldn't get an ubiquitous bourbon in an otherwise excellent bar. read more

The main reason we came here is that in their images they serve Smokey bourbons. Only to find out they don't, but the ugly way. Meaning I asked if they served it, the waitress said no but she wanted to doublecheck. Then she said yes, and came back with the drink non-smoked. Told her to redo the drink, gave me a regular bourbon non smoked. The table seats are from a cheap pizzeria place. You cannot just sit and wait without that chair hurting after some time. I started off with the cocktail watch yourself savanna while on the sweet side it is deliciously balanced with citrus and if you like passion fruit get this drink. It almost tastes like peaches and cream - so tasty. Our waiter Rhett was absolutely lovely, knowledgeable and engaging. He really made our dinner experience go to the next level with suggestions and great energy. We began with marinated mushrooms & they were delicious. We also had crispy brussel sprouts which were the best we had ever eaten. We then enjoyed the spinach encrusted ribeye with a stuffed potato and it was fabulous and especially the homemade sauce! Wanted celebrate my graduation from SCAD, so reserved a table for my family and I. I think it's the best meal I've had in Georgia ! 5 stars is pretty high I know, but we went to Repeal 33 looking for a good happy hour and that is the experience we're rating. We went early so the bar was not crowded and was comfortable and welcoming. We had full attention of both bartenders who were friendly and conversational and the other staff members were attentive as well. Savannah has some serious culinary choices and each time I go here there are new places vouching to be the next talk of the town. While Prohibition has been open for a while and I don't here much about it, I think this place is one of the best options for quality cocktails and food. Here are my ratings based on different criteria: Quality of food: Excellent. For food I got the two of their best sellers: deviled eggs and charred wings. The deviled eggs were perfection albeit the chicken skin that they come with. The skin doesn't have any taste and just tastes a bit strange with the smooth taste of deviled eggs. The charred wings were as best as they can get. They had Memphis dry rub, sweet vinegar, gorgonzola ranch, and carrot-chili emulsion. They were so smokey and so good. For drink I tried the Colleen Bawn that had Rye, chartreuse, benedictine, egg, and nutmeg. It tasted like egg nog and was super good. Decor: very cool. There are bottles of what looks like bourbon all over the place. The bar area must have some of the biggest collection of liquors I have seen. The whole place feels like a mix of modern and old with bricks right by exposed plumbing pipes. It is usually dimly lit to add to the cool ambiance. Cleanliness: good. The bathroom and the tables were kept clean. Service: great. The waitress did a great job explaining all the options and help pick the food and drinks. Price: a bit high. The deviled eggs and wings were about $10 each and the cocktails can be a bit pricey here. The Prohibition is a great choice for food and drinks and must be on your list of places to checkout while in Savannah. read more

I can honestly say that everything from atmosphere, food and service was top! I don't say this a lot about places I have been to. My sister and I headed to Savannah and made reservations on OpenTable. I had seen this place on Yelp before but ran out of time with my last visits. This time, I wasn't going to miss out. So, here we go. We had reservations at 1930, but got lost and were going to be late. When I called, I explained to the hostess that I had no idea where exactly they were located and she was able to precisely give me the easiest directions on foot. We made it 10 minutes late, but either way were seated right away. Oh, and the nice thing too, was that my phone died and she took my phone to the front to set it on the charger. When we sat down, we were served water immediately and given our menus. The first thing I saw was their Roasted Bone Marrow. Not a lot of restaurants have this on their menu, and since my sister has never had it and I LOVE it, this was a no brain order. Along with that, we decided on the marinated olives. The bone marrow was served with house made pumpkin bread, which was to DIE for, a miso citrus glaze, and preserved lemon gremolata. If I could, I would have licked the bone clean. The bread was also super moist and packed with flavor. One of my favorite starters yet. The marinated olives were a perfect pair with the bone marrow. For our Mains, my sister opted for the Seared Jumbo Scallops that was accompanied with butternut squash risotto, crispy prosciutto, lemon arugula salad, topped with a sherry reduction. The scallops were cooked perfectly. I didn't want to order the same thing, so I went with the 12 oz Ribeye. It was cooked to the temperature that I asked for. It had a lot of flavor with the spinach crust and grilled Brussel sprouts. Let's just say that the both of us ate everything. So would I come back? A-so-lute-ly!!! Loved our dinner at Repeal 33! I went on a bachelorette trip with a total of 8 girls. I was surprised that some places in Savannah don't offer reservations but repeal 33 does. The interior is really cute -- it does remind me of a speakeasy. We shared the crispy brussels sprouts at the table -- delicious. Some of the girls shared oysters which they raved were amazing. I absolutely LOVED my shrimp and grits. One girl had the steak (ribeye) said the flavor was amazing. Another had the burger and crushed it. It's your bog standard American fare. I've had a million times, you've had it a million times. That said, Repeal 33 had a pretty strong showing. The bone marrow app was easily the biggest hit of the night. The marrow was topped by shredded beef cheek, but I'm not even sure that was entirely necessary. The marrow itself was MASSIVE and rich and full of mouth-lasting flavor. The wings weren't fried, but they did fall off the bone, big win. Whipped ricotta toast was another crowd pleaser. The burger was ample, it was saucy, and it worked. They did a great job amping up their shrimp and grits. The sauce it was topped with was thick, so it blended with the grits Instead of making them runny. The grits themselves had great coarse texture, something that most places don't do right when they use grits that are ground too finely. Beers were great - I just wish they did a better job listing their draft beers instead of needing to rely on their servers to rattle them off to you. read more
