Republic is a classic in terms of ice cream flavor. Good quality and delicious. I've tried a few flavors: coffee, cappuccino chip, and butter pecan. Most recently I tested out the combo of butter pecan and coffee, which was excellent. Butter pecan alone can sometimes be too sweet for me. I also love the handmade, fresh waffle cones. Always a special treat! In my opinion, a waffle cone with butter pecan (and maybe a second flavor of ice cream) is as good as it gets at Republic; best enjoyed while walking to the beach. The service has always been friendly in my experience. Even though there is sometimes a wait, I don't mind and feel that whoever is behind the counter devotes their undivided attention to the customer being served. This is Sullivan's Island, after all, try to relax, soak in the vibes, take a photo in front of the mural and enjoy the time. One downside is that this ice cream shop is pricey! We routinely spend close to $10 per person and usually don't order anything too fancy. We'll upgrade to a waffle cone and that's about it. read more

The perfect sweet treat on Sullivans Island! I'm an ice cream lover, and Republic did not disappoint. Wish I could give them an extra star because they are extremely allergy friendly, especially in regards to gluten. Each flavor is gluten free, and they even have gluten free waffle cones! Overall the ice cream was delicious! We ended up with 3 shakes, 1 root beer float, and one single scoop. It was good stuff. Spendy for sure, but what isn't anymore! This place was so good, we came here twice in 3 days! It has the delightfully familiar ambiance of an ice cream shop in a beach town- small but cozy, right on the street of other restaurants you can walk here from. The service workers were polite and always ready to provide you with your scoops or shakes! First, I got the cookies and cream with a waffle cone, and next I got the mint chocolate chip. Both were so good, I couldn't pick a favorite! The waffle cone in particular was soooo good! Better than any waffle cone I've ever had. It was not too crunchy and not too soft- just right! My only complaint was the lack of seating here. There were only a couple chairs inside, one picnic table outside, and two small tables outside. If you come with more than one or two other people, expect to stand around outside and eat, because there likely won't be any seats available. Our absolute favorite ice cream place in the Charleston area. When we come to Isle of Palms, we head to the beach, and after walking for miles, we head to Republic on Sullivans Island for a cup of butter pecan and double chocolate chip.
