Great little shop near the Market in downtown Charleston. The customer service is good, friendly and welcoming gals working here! My husband loves fudge, so he loves to try some everywhere we travel and they have fun stores like this one. Great selection, we went for a dark chocolate half slice and a chocolate raspberry half slice. They were very well packed in a cute box with a wooden knife by the nice girl who helped us. During our roadtrip to Charleston we found out there was a Kilwins and had to stop! We ended up here both days we were in town. The first day a double scoop of Dulce De Leche in a waffle cup. The young lady working with the ice cream was really friendly and helpful with places to visit. The second day it was a bit more crowded but no where near the lines in Wilmington. Stumbled on this place while strolling through the French Quarter. One taste of their Georgia Peach ice cream and I know every flavor would delightful because they use real cream ingredients. The ice cream was premium priced but loaded with fake colors which always seem to come with other ingredients I don't want to eat. Kim wins also sells a variety of chocolates and things like candy apples; $9 for a candy apple isn't "highway robbery", it's grand theft auto. Such a great sweets place! We all had different flavor ice creams that were creamy and delicious. My husband's waffle cone did not fall apart like some other cones and ice cream went down to the end of the cone. The service was quick and friendly. Sooooo I have to admit that during my previous experiences, I've left feeling like Kilwin's is good, but a little over rated. This was my first visit to this location and it was great! Kilwin's is one of the best places to indulge in sweets. There are an array items for the chocolate and nut lovers! Personally, I'm simply an ice cream kind of girl, but Kilwin's is much more than that. There are chocolate covered apples, fudge, toffee, brittle and more! They even have great hot chocolate. On this occasion, the kind employee asked what flavor I usually order and I told her "butter pecan." She suggested the New Orleans Pecan Praline and said it was "way better" than butter pecan so I gave it a shot. I was so glad I took her up on her suggestion. It was perfect. Good spot in market street right across from the market. It's a bit over priced but it's due to then making the products there. You'll find fudge made in just about every flavor you can think of. Caramel apples are now in season here and that seems to be the hot item! My favorite item but it's a tad on the pricey side is the chocolate covered Oreos at $2.95 a piece PLUS tax! So yes over $3.00 when you are said and done. While I'll say it's pricey it's delicious enough to where I'll pay for it. It sure would be nice if they'd ran specials once in a while holidays would be great! You can smell the chocolate from about 1/4 mile away it's welcoming a great place to just enjoy your sweets and also enjoy a great cone of ice cream! Trying to avoid ice cream chains I saw somebody walking with a cup of this goodness and the rest is history. Seriously though, when you're visiting any place I always recommend to taste local over chains because you get in on what more of the locals have grown up on. Now this is a little candy shop where you get to watch them make a few sweets with really old machines but they also had a huge ice cream selection. Which when we came in it seemed like everybody was there for their ice cream, which is always a good sign. The scoops were pretty big, now I can eat ice cream literally every single day and I ended up only going with one scoop, thankfully my eyes weren't bigger than my stomach because 2 scoops was massive. What I really loved here, especially being here for the first time is they allow customers to sample the flavors until you find the perfect flavor, even with a long line they made every customer was satisfied. We love Kilwins. It's our go to place in any city they have a store. However in Charleston we gave our fudge and chocolates back because there were gnats in the food case and then roaches! During the day and especially after dinner we find ourselves at Kilwin's, a Charleston institution since a year after I was born: 1947. They have lasted so long because they have the best selection of candy, chocolate, ice cream and other treats your mother warned you about eating...especially eating more than a little. Well, you are now adults, many of you with young children and grandchildren so you have permission, no...more of a duty to expose those youngster to the delights of sugar and cocoa. Wonderful caramel apples, a ton of different fudges, many traditional southern chocolate with caramel and with pecan nuts, like turtles and caramel (are you picking up a trend here?) coated popcorn and crisp brittle are regularly displayed in their glass counter cases. Really wanted to try Jeni's while I was in Charleston but never got the chance to. Stopped by this Kilwin's with a group of girls instead since it was near our hotel. I had tried Kilwin's for the first time when I was on Hilton Head Island, and it had been amazing. The staff at this Kilwin's were very nice. I sampled the s'more flavor and the strawberry chunk flavor and both were really good. The staff at the Hilton Head Kilwin's had told us we could choose two flavors for a single scoop size (they'd do half size scoops of each), so we asked if we were able to do that here too, but unfortunately they said we'd have to order two scoops to get two flavors. I ended up going with the strawberry chunk in a regular cone and it was really good (creamy, chunks of strawberry that weren't hard and icy like ice cream with fruit chunks usually is), but would've been a nice combo with the s'more ice cream. The only other flavor I remember someone in our group getting was the toasted coconut flavor, which she absolutely loved. read more

This has been one of my favorite places to go to for desserts for a great number of years from the ice cream to chocolates to many other choices. Kilwin's is great after a nice meal at a restaurant and a walk for dessert. This place knows how to bring a smile to my face as just the smells alone are worth the visit as you are overwhelmed with goodness as soon as you walk in. They are super consistent in the quality of their offerings and they always seem to be good. Surprisingly it was cheaper than Ben & Jerry's and the ice cream was amazing! I got the praline & pecan ice cream in a waffle cone which was freshly made and served nice and warm. The single scoop with a waffle cone was $4.50 and enough to satisfy a big guy like myself. My wfie went with the children's size :) She also bought some fudge.
