I recently visited the shelter to meet a dog that I was interested in adopting. Her fur was full of…read moremattes and she had been there for at least a week. Not only that, but I was told she will need major dental work as her canines are very worn down. For a dog to be neglected like that is unacceptable. I was going to adopt her and rescue her from the poor living conditions and neglect by this "rescue" but was told no since I had to make the difficult decision to relinquish my cat whom I had for over 3 years because she developed serious behavioral issues and was attacking my family and my dog unprovoked on a regular basis despite doing everything that was advised by my vet and a trainer. Additionally my dog whom I adopted from PAWS three years ago has never had an accident since day one of living with my husband and I. I thought it was odd of them to claim that she wasn't potty trained but now it all makes sense given what I saw when I showed up there the other day. And if that doesn't convince you, the staff there are incredibly rude to visitors. There was an older heavy set woman who handles adoptions who was there that night and yelled at my husband and belittled him for being "too close" to the dog. It was incredibly unnecessary to speak to him in that way. STEER CLEAR OF THIS PLACE!

During my interview I explained to Cindy that I wasn't sure if I was ready but this guy caught my eye etc. He was already pending adoption so I was bummed bc I felt like he was supposed to be part of our family. Fast forward a week later and I get a call that his first applicants fell through due to their extensive travel plans, I brought him home and we all adjusted to the other and by week 3 we were in love. After finding out more about him/his history I really felt that my dog that had passed sent him. What I really appreciated about the rescue is how thorough they are in the process and they make sure it's a fit for everyone. They knew I might not be ready but gave me a chance and it worked out for everyone. I can't recommend this rescue more.

I adopted 2 domestic black cats: Leo & Midnight. They came as a pair. Midnight, is female, sits on the top of the living room chair watching out the window. Friendly, lovable, meows for me to pet her; such a stress reliever. Leo, the male, is shy. He will spend most of his time downstairs. The cats are quiet, clean, low-maintenance for the life I live. The animal control personal were very professional. The animals were shown care. I appreciated the genuine attitude the building and staff showed. If interested in a pet give a sheltered animal a chance because animals adopted from shelters typically cost less than ones purchased or even acquired for free--once you add in the cost of vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, microchip, dewormer, and other "tide bits" included in your adoption fee, you'll probably be surprised what a bargain it is to have chosen an adopted pet. Most shelters and rescue groups conduct thorough behavioral analyses of each pet to get a better ideal that they will be the right piece for your family. Schererville Animal Control did this and told me if anything happens to please bring the pets back. I can not recommend to adopt a shelter animal anymore than buying from a pet store etc. Most pets end up homeless through no fault of their own--"moving" and "landlord issues" are the top reasons people give for relinquishing their pets, please check out your local shelter. It was definitely 100% worth it for my children and I.

We're still working through the introduction to our dog, but are hopeful that they'll be great siblings. :) I know that there are many animals that come through there, and all I have heard are good things about how Schererville AC takes care of the animals and how professional they are with everyone. But, according to the mgr. named Kim she stated to me, "Please understand that we are currently in the process of moving out of our facility and are significantly understaffed. As a volunteer-run organization, we are doing our best". Which to me isn't good enough, and at what cost? Bringing in dogs from Kentucky and then selling them for $600.00-$700.00 dollars isn't helping dogs find a nice home. Stop bringing in trucks of animals in until you clean up for rescue. They have had several complaints, just look them up. Even their fosters aren't being taken care of or RESPECTED! Until they can clean up their act, there are other great animal rescues out there.
