A wealthy friend introduced me to Rescue about 5 years ago. I've gone every couple of months for every service they offer except massage. It's best described as an urban spa, which means exactly that. Do not expect a series of rooms to chill in the dark before and after the service. The space is dressed in white and is quietly and appropriately busy. Generally, it delivers what it promises to deliver. For those coming from the West Coast and all of its water-centric Asian spas and onsens, you will find none of it here. It's taken me years to find a Korean spa nearby and I drive 45 min to get to it. For facials, I really like Monica. Like Danuta (the owner) and Nives (the make-up and brow tech), Monica is originally from Eastern Europe. She does a very, very good job. I have my first appt with Danuta in March (she is usually booked months in advance) and have high expectations for the results. For waxing, I like Tirzah. I've had waxes with every person on staff I think. Recently, I've noticed that when I get a Brazilian, I actually have to ask them to do anything "in the back." What's happening here? Isn't that what differentiates a regular bikini wax from a Brazilian wax? I really don't want to have to *ask* for it. Like, ever. I've had my eyebrows shaped (not waxed; I break out) by Nives and Erica. Nives has a fabulous sense of style and her make up application is worth paying for, just to learn what's what. I came in a couple of times for brows, and she did an amazing job, commanding my brows to grow in and reshape themselves. 6 months later, Erica essentially destroyed what Nives had done. I will not go back to Erica. For nails, the only tech I like is Anna Maria. She's really good. My only gripe is that the benches are not comfortable to sit on, but I think they've just remodeled that space. Going for a pedicure in February, so we'll see. read more

I've had the pleasure of going to Rescue for waxing and a facial, and I can't speak highly enough of the staff! The service is excellent; the front desk staff is friendly and welcoming, the coffee bar maven is attentive and thoughtful, and my esthetician Ashley was helpful, thorough, and neighborly. She answered all my million questions about the products she was using on my skin, and provided individualized recommendations to address my specific concerns. To add to my day of pampering, she encouraged me to relax in the sauna and steam shower while I was there, and no one even made me leave! I turned a one hour facial into a half a day of relaxation at Rescue, and was met with nothing but smiles from the staff as I lounged in my robe while reading Vanity Fair. I've also seen Ashley for designer eye brows, and lemme tell you, I never thought my thin, wispy brows could do what she did! Ashley not only whipped them into model-status shape, but even told me how I could achieve the same look at home. Now, of course they are no where near as amazing as when she does them, but I can divide my photos into "Pre-Brow" and "Post-Brow" and the difference is unreal! I can't recommend Ashley enough for waxing and facials, but if you only have time for one treatment, let this girl at your brows. Her recent write-up in the Philly voice was well-deserved! A goal for my upcoming wedding is to have clear skin. I have been dealing with acne for years - and even though I see a dermatologist, eat well, cleanse daily, wash my pillowcases and towels regularly, disinfect my phone and makeup brushes, and don't touch my face, the acne never really goes away. I was wary about going just anywhere for a facial because I didn't want someone who wasn't trained properly playing around with my skin. After doing some research about area salons, I finally bit the bullet and made an appointment at Rescue. My first appointment with Joanna went well and she asked me a lot of good questions (how sensitive is your skin, what is your current regimen, etc). The lotions and creams that she used felt great. She didn't pressure me into buying the products, but at the end of the day, I did end up purchasing them because I really wanted to make the commitment to getting clearer skin. I'm about 3 months in now and my skin is doing great. I'm rarely getting pimples at this point and it has a nice glow. I've been going every month, alternating between a full facial and their zoom and groom option (for the record, Joanna did tell me that I didn't have to come back that regularly if I wanted to save money, but as I said earlier, I really wanted to commit to this). Yes, it's expensive, but I'm finally seeing the results I've always wanted! And I was surprised at how relaxed I felt after each visit...it's kind of like a massage. I'm officially hooked. I will definitely be continuing this regimen until my wedding and possibly even continuing it after. read more

March 2013 For my birthday, my sister got me a gift certificate to Rescue Spa, for a total Bliss sampler package. That's what you get for being the most amazing big sister! It was a relaxing day, but not-so-great to go back again. Also, one will be paying through the nose, for mini-massage, mini classic facial, and classic mani/ pedi. It was $175 for the total Bliss sampler package ( I think now its $180.) Linda = MIRACLE WORKER! I've never had great skin. It's sensitive, break-out prone, and has certainly never had that dewy glisten...until now, that is. With my wedding coming up in June, I made my first appointment last month and had my second facial today. The difference after just two treatments is remarkable. She has unclogged a bunch of blackheads and sloughed away a lot of dead skin. Like many others have mentioned, the P50 lotion she recommended is a great product and worth the hefty price tag. For our 1 year anniversary my girlfriend scheduled me a classic facial at Rescue. It was my first facial anywhere, but something tells me that Rescue is at the top of it's game. We were greeted as soon as we exited the elevator and escorted to the lounge area. We were offered water or tea (I had the cucumber water. Yum!) We sat down and looked around and waited for my appointment. I was taken in pretty soon and my gf waited in the lounge area for me. I'm really bad with names. I believe Rachel was the person who did my facial? I hope that's right. She was wonderful. She assessed my face, I put on the robe and then she went right to work. The conversation was good and she told me a lot about my face and what it needs. It was very informative. My face also felt AMAZING afterwards. I felt like I was glowing and I had a huge confidence boost for the rest of the day. I didn't feel like any products were being pushed on me, which I appreciated. She did recommend one product that I bought that day (Lotion P50) and I'm excited to look into her other recommendations. I had a perfect experience here. I can't wait until Winter so I can get another one! (They recommend quarterly facials for my skin type.) I also got my eyebrows done while I was there and tinted. They look perfect! They really do look like I have naturally perfect eyebrows. They don't look overdone at all. I also have very fair brows and it is amazing what a difference it makes having them a little darker. So yes, this was my first spa experience, but I'm thrilled I had it at Rescue and I can't wait to go back. My girlfriend also gets an A+ from me for picking this place. I came to rescue based on all of the yelp reviews- it's a few weeks before my wedding and I wanted to make sure I was going to a place that wasn't just anecdotally good...but true, yelp, good. My facial with Aneta was absolutely amazing. She was incredible. This was my first facial and what an experience- I honestly think I liked it as much as a massage. She was very informative and assuring- I was totally confident she knew what she was doing. And although I totally got suckered into purchasing the products (which I'm loving btw) and the upgraded facial with bio-lift (hey, it's my wedding...), I really didn't feel like she was pushy at all. Just truly telling me what I need to do to have fabulous skin. And she knows what she's talking about...my face is glowing and I literally think I was on some sort of high afterward, gabbing to my fiance (who was probably less than interested) about how incredible my experience was. As far as the salon itself, rescue is doing it right. You pay for what you're getting. But what you're getting is meticulous and uber-friendly customer service, a clean, relaxing atmosphere and other guests/customers that are respectful and courteous. The staff is genuine and seems really knowledgeable...there's a reason this place books up fast. I recently went to Rescue as a treat to myself for my birthday based on recommendations from friends and positive reviews on Yelp. I booked an appointment for the Spoil Me package. The ambiance and decor of the spa were very posh and set the tone for my facial and massage. Both my masseuse and esthetician were friendly and did a great job and the rooms were dimly lit and quiet. Rescue gets 4 stars for their services; the front desk however is a totally different story! When I was all finished I went checkout at the front desk and was paying with 2 Amex gift cards. They told me that they don't accept gift cards, although the woman on the phone when I booked the appointment told me that they did AND even went as far as to take down the two CC numbers from the gift cards!! It was clearly a misunderstanding with whomever took the call when I booked my appointments but the part that really pissed me off was the attitude I was given by the girls at the front desk!! They were unapologetic and bitchy and did nothing to try and rectify the situation even though the mistake was on their part! This totally soured not only my first spa experience by also soured MY BIRTHDAY!! When women go to a spa they want to feel pampered and taken care of and not feel like snooty people are looking down their nose at you. And I would think that at an upscale spa such as Rescue that they would at least offer some solution other than simply saying NO and doing nothing to try and make up for the misunderstanding. I'm really upset that my experience wasn't as stellar as I expected, and it's a shame because Rescue is a beautiful spa with great services but my checkout experience left a really sour taste in my mouth. read more

Another disappointed Bay Area girl. What is wrong with this spa? I only see one person for massages and they are based in SF, my experiences with massage have always been pretty negative except with my masseuse. So when I travel for work or play I usually just book a facial and a back facial or a body polish. I booked a full facial and a back facial with Rescue the day before, since this icky, humid weather is ruining my skin. They said they would be unable to do them at the same time but could do them the same day. Fair enough, I really only enjoy spas for their other amenities like steam rooms, relaxation lounges, hot tubs etc. And I figured I could use such amenities during the break. I arrived early, as one dose for a spa day, and was escorted into the waiting room where everyone else was in their robes and told to wait there for my esthetician. I figured surely someone else would come to show me the ladies lounge where I could change and leave my bag. Nope, after a few minutes I realized this wasn't going to happen so I went back to the front desk and asked where to find my locker. They explained facial clients DON'T GET LOCKERS?? What?? I requested one anyways and was led by another woman into the locker room where she looked around helplessly before declaring they were all full and I could just leave my bag in the facial room.... Not only that but she took my water back? How much more rude can you be? This was not only awkward but embarrassing and felt like a really big scene in front of all the other women. I was mortified but went back to the waiting room to wait... My facial was actually pretty great, I enjoyed her and she walked me through the services and made sure I was ok with extractions etc. And offered samples to take home and treat a particularly bad blemish. I was led back to the waiting room and realized I had 90 minutes!!!! before my next appointment. I was expected to do what? Stare at the wall with my purse, in my street clothes? I hadn't washed my hair and had no makeup in hopes of getting to do myself up in the locker room before heading back downtown. I was livid, but politely explained to the front desk that I had no interest in my second service if I couldn't access the amenities. The girl looked mortified that I'd been denied a locker but the managers only attempt at atonement was to give me one now? Like making a larger scene would make me feel better? If I'd known I'd get treated like an actual guest if I booked a massage I would have, and I would have payed more for the facials than most of their packages, so why I was snubbed I do not know. They really need to re-examibne their no amenities policy for facial clients and at least OFFER a locker. And don't book so many clients that you have no lockers for them! That's overbooking and in poor taste! I paid for my first treatment, didn't receive my samples, because why bother at this point, and tipped my esthetician before taking off. I decided to go back to Rescue and give it another try after my less than perfect trip the first time. I got the spoil me package again, which is a harmony massage and a facial. I have to say these two services are unbelievable, and they have converted me into a Rescue lover. The front desk staff may not always be over-the-top friendly, but the services are divine and thats what you go to the spa for anyway. LOVE Rescue! I have one thing to say about Rescue Spa... MOHAMAD. I used to go to 3 different salons to get my hair cut/colored, another to get keratin and another for quick/regular blow outs. I will no longer go anywhere but Rescue Spa. I have never in my life had a better haircut, color, keratin treatment or blow out/styling in my entire life. My hair is healthier shinier and even people who see me everyday have noticed a difference. My hair is growing and thicker over the last 3 months than it has been in 3 years. The salon is gorgeous and relaxing. The customer service from the minute you come in to the front desk to the customer service during my treatments from Mohamad is worth every single penny. I arrived at Rescue due to a gift certificate from my agency for getting my Masters. Very sweet. I proceeded to sit on said gift certificate for 10 months because I'm very weird about people touching me... but then i got over it. I booked a standard facial with Chrissy this past Monday, which also happened to be my 30th birthday. I arrived at the spa, which happens to be in the same building as my dentist, unsure of what to expect. When the elevator doors opened, I was feeling pretty good about things. Check in was awkward- there were 2 people who were helping guests who were taking quite a bit of time. I quite literally hung out for about 10 minutes before a woman asked to take my coat, and while she did so, the people behind me jumped ahead of me to check in. Clearly I needed to be in a spa. I was annoyed... and I needed to RELAX! Fastforward a bit to my meeting Chrissy, a very layed back and approachable woman who seemed to be about my age. Instantly, I knew I had made a smart move. She told me how great the woman who owns the salon is... and about some of the skin issues she's managed to overcome through using some of the processes at the salon. I've been blessed with some adult-onset acne myself, so her recomendations really gave me hope, and she treated me to some birthday samples of some more expensive processes to allow me to see how well/quickly they work. Long story short- in 1 hour, i left Rescue having purchased my favorite of all of the products ($40 for a 4 month supply... surprisingly affordable given the pitfalls available out there) and i hadn't a care in the world. My skin was red and needed some time to calm down, but that didn't even stop me from enjoying the balance of my day walking around and enjoying the nice weather. Fastforward again to today- 3 days later... my skin has calmed down and cleaned up considerably. All of the tiny blackheads i had in my nose/chin/forehead are subsiding, and Chrissy gave me a ton of samples that I can use to maintain this level of clarity until I got see her again around the end of May. Rescue is perfect in every way. It starts with the receptionists, they are nothing but sweet and accommodating on the phone and even better in person. I have never had any appointment mix ups, and if I have to call to reschedule they are never annoyed by it (and I reschedule A LOT). They immediately offer you something to drink, will take your coat - the receptionists truly embody Rescue's full service business model. I have sampled almost every service Rescue has to offer, and I have never had a bad facial, massage, mani/pedi, wax, etc. Every aesthetician has been experienced, professional and performed their services in such a way that my time with them was a relaxing escape. But the true star of rescue is Maria. Maria is the in house make-up artist and eyebrow genius. Basically, she is my hero/savior. After a tragic brow mishap, Maria has guided me through growing out my brows into the perfect shape, and has made sure it has been a smooth transition. Instead of looking like a crazy person throughout this process, Maria has shaped and maintained my brows to keep me looking normal while they are growing out. I could go on and on about her for paragraphs; but to sum it up she was named the go-to-gal for brows by Vogue--so I am pretty sure that says anything and everything I could have said. Overall, I love Rescue. Just make sure you call ahead to make an appointment, and check in on foursquare to get 10% off your services. p.s. Ahhhh this place is amazing! My husband and I wanted to visit a spa for facial/massages to celebrate our 1 year wedding anniversary. After doing some research, I found Rescue spa (which caught my eye, because it has been awarded "best of philly"). We both had a great experience - we were greeted immediately, facilities were clean, and the staff was so friendly! (Asking if we needed more water, even the spa technician got me a new robe after seeing a very small stain on part of the robe, which I didn't see). We were GLOWING after our facials and massages (granted, I don't get facials that often, but I would love to go every month if I could after this experience). Only minor, very minor complaint I had... The waiting room is in clear sight of the elevators where people enter/leave the spa... (Maybe put a curtain there?) the mail man came and looked over while we were all sitting in our robes, and it got a tad noisy because the lobby was right there (and granted, it is a smaller sized spa). This spa's award in InStyle magazine for "best brows" is well-deserved. Though the $40 "designer" brow treatment is pricy, it is well worth it. I left with dramatically improved brows that I continue to get compliments on! The space is small, but incredibly chic and modern- it really is a sanctuary away from the city. They have a cool "water bar" with a variety of refreshing flavored waters and all of the staff are really helpful and gracious. The brow specialist took her time and was very skilled in making the treatment as precise and painless as possible. If you have problem brows or just need a good reshaping, go to Rescue. I am forever indebted to my mother-in-law for giving me a gift certificate to go here when I moved to Philadelphia. I wouldn't have normally splurged on such a place but once I got a facial from Tirzah I was hooked and worked it into my budget to go here every 2-3 months. Over the past year she helped me change my skin. I'm sad that I just moved cities so can't continue to go to her but I'll keep using the p50 and hope to find someone like her in my new city. I also now realize what a bargain the facial was considering it incorporated deep-cleaning, microdermabrasion, and relaxing elements like massage too. I went to Rescue Spa for the first time a couple months ago to get my first Brazilian wax ever. I was super nervous and my friend practically had to drag me there. The thought of laying spread eagle while a stranger ripped out my hair was horrifying, but man oh man am I glad I went!! Seriously ladies, this wax is life changing. I was hair free for nearly 5 weeks - I will never go back to shaving!! Today was my second visit for another Brazilian with Connie this time. Wow. Connie is amazing!!!! She is incredibly kind and makes you feel comfortable in what could be a very awkward situation. She was insanely fast - I was done in under 15 minutes (the first time I went it took 25 min). She was thorough and it really didn't hurt much at all - significantly less than my first wax. I can't say enough good things about Connie and this service. With beach time approaching, I thought that a little touch up 'down there' might be in order. I called just two days before my departure and had a very narrow window for when I could make it to the Rittenhouse area. They were able to fit me in without any fuss. The space is nice; perhaps a little overdone for my tastes, but I only sat and waited for about five minutes before being ushered into another room. The woman who waxed was quite nice. We had a steady stream of conversation that didn't feel entirely forced or awkward and I was in and out of there in about 20 minutes. The woman who rang me up was also happy to answer my questions about the line of perfumes they have and encouraged me to take a sample ... but let me smell almost all of them before I made my decision without seeming impatient at all. I came here a few months ago for an aromatherapy massage, and it was one of the best massages I ever received! My only complaint is about the waiting area. I found it kind of strange to be sitting off the lobby area in my bathrobe and slippers. It would be nice to have a secluded waiting room, but the massage totally made up for it. I went to get a 90min Deep Tissue massage and was very satisfied with it. My overall experience with spas and massage therapist in general has been negative. I'm an athlete and need my body fixed and not pampered. I got what I asked for at Rescue Spa. Thank goodness!!! The place is beautiful and spacious. It offers Steam Room, Sauna and Showers in their spacious Locker Room. Big plus! It reminds me of one of the great spas in Vegas (Ceasars Hotel or The Hotel), minus the swimming and dipping pools. No one takes more care and precision in doing my eyebrows than Erica. From the minute i met her, she was easy to get along with and i felt like she was my friend! Since i've moved out of philly (so sad), i make appointments at every Philly visit that i can. I recently went back for their current special: eyebrows + classic facial for $100. I dont trust anyone else to give me a facial except the people at Rescue. And though its annoying for people to push products on you, I truly believed that they were looking out for my best interest when recommeding a toner (that really changed my life!) and cleanser. I wish I could steal Erica away and bring to her to wherever I live! But then again, it makes my visits to Philly extra special. The minute you walk into the spa, you feel relaxed, all your worries go away and its difficult to remember why you were aggravated before you walked in there. I'm Italian-American. I have lots of leg hair and armpit hair, and it's dark and black and not sexy at all. Solution? Waxing. Where? RESCUE! I've been going here for about 4 years, and can only say that it is phenomenal. The service is professional and courteous, the atmosphere relaxing, and I just love it. But here's the secret--Go to Samantha Lowe. She's one of the estheticians at RESCUE, and she is absolutely, hands-down, the best. Not only is she super personable and easy to chat with, but she is uber-meticulous. I mean, she literally whips out the magnifying glass thing and plucks hairs off my legs that the wax didn't get. FAN-TAS-TIC This is not the cheapest spa in Philly, but it is absolutely worth every penny. Just remember--ask for Sam!! read more

Going to Rescue was the best idea my friend ever had! Not only was it one of the most relaxing and best days ever, the staff were a big reason why it was so great! For a pre-wedding day treat my bridesmaid got us the Weekend Escape package, which included a classic rescue facial, harmony essence massage, and a classic manicure and pedicure. My massage was done by Andrew. He was very professional and communicated very well about presser or areas that need some extra work. The massage ended with a foot scrub with a hot towel. Can I say AMAZING! Andrew ruled and the next day I felt like a new woman! My facial was done by Shannon. She explained everything she was doing and why she was doing it. She was very nice and knowledgeable. My face is still glowing and its been like 4 days since I was in! I am amazed how great I look. haha. I already booked a facial with Shannon a week before my wedding! I really appreciate her taking the time to let me know how to get my skin in better shape. You rule! Thanks soo much! Lets not forget about the bangin mani & pedi I got by Anna Maria! Normally after a few days my nails have already chipped! Nope! Not this time!
