After going to 3 other bike shops, I found the one I was looking for: the one with a good salesperson who is also a mechanic, who patiently walked me through all the options: road bike vs. hybrid; v-brakes vs. disc brakes, step-through vs. cross bar and more. They specialize in the recreational bicyclist, which was exactly what I needed. He was extremely knowledgeable about every facet of each bicycle type, and was patient with all my questions. He gave me no pressure to buy, stayed nearby for questions as I did a test ride, and allowed me to come to my own decisions. I surprised myself (and him) by buying a bike that was completely different than what I originally asked for (this one was a step-through, flat handlebars, v-brakes, size medium). The bottom line for me was that the model I road-tested fit me well, I was satisfied that I was getting a good quality for the price, and it had an ease of steering I hadn't found in any other models. But it didn't hurt that I wasn't pressured, and that he listened and responded to every question, even though he originally thought he wasn't going to make a sale off of me. Then came the accoutrements, which he also guided me through: Water bottle holder? Kickstand? Mirror? He even helped me figure out how to load my bike in the car, and was patient as I requested multiple tries at removing the wheel (I'm not mechanically inclined, live alone, and was going to have to be proficient at this by the time I went home). All of it was relaxed, personable, knowledgeable -- and did I say patient??? It was the epitome of customer-focused service. Needless to say, I was pleased. This is the type of place you want to go when you need anything bike related. First everyone is super friendly and helpful. I am a total newb to bike stuff and the person servicing my bike was super helpful by slowing down the bike tuning and walking me through each step. He never made me feel dumb for asking stupid questions. I also bought the wrong gear for my bike and they traded it out for free with no receipt without me asking. They were really genuine people looking to help customers explore their love of cycling. The store looks to be well stocked too. They had plenty of different bikes, clothing, gear, and parts, including the hard to find kickrcore. Love this place and would recommend it to anyone from newb to novice. read more

I brought in my Best Friends bike, because I tried to adjust the gear selector and sadly had it so close and then I over adjusted it and it went into the spokes. Not only do they live up to the reviews, but I couldn't believe how quick they got the bike done and the price was very economical. I will come back for all my future bike needs. Heck it is cheaper to come here than to do the work myself. I even picked up a very nice helmet for my riding use and plan to come back and get a bike rack. My neighbors recommended them. I used to go to Fifty West (still great!) when I lived in NKY. When I moved to West Chester I learned about this place. It's a hidden gem. A few years ago, I bought my husband a bike from here, and received excellent customer service. My husband has them tune up his bike each Spring. I have always found everyone to be extremely helpful, and knowledgeable. We just went back this week to buy a bike for myself, and Jake gave us great customer service. He was very patient, especially since I wasn't really sure what I wanted, and very knowledgeable as well. I'd give a 5, but really have not used a shop like this before. It is likely deserving of 5 stars though. I purchased a bicycle from an auction, it had a significantly warped front rim. I knew it could either be straightened out or replaced (worse case). So I took it to a repair shop on the way home. I had first gone to a more "well known" shop and when they quoted me a time and price, I thanked them and walked out. (That establishment said it would be at least 2 weeks and possibly $40-60) I searched bicycle repairs on Yelp hoping a local, privately owned shop would pop up. West Chester Cyclery caught my attention for it's reviews and proximity to my home. They took my repair right away, said give them a couple of days and quoted me $20-$40 based on the repair/replace scenario. I picked my bike up 2 days later with a $20 repair. I was very happy. I dealt with three different employees and all were helpful, fielded questions well and overall displayed great customer service. read more

My mom's birthday is coming up and she informed us that all she wanted was a new bicycle. We went to West Chester Cyclery on my Dad's recommendation and ended up finding exactly what we needed within minutes. The guy that helped us was friendly and knowledgeable but I didn't get his name...he easily found us a few bikes that would fit the need of a "50ish, female short, leisure rider. The only requirement my mom had given us was that the bike needed to be "pretty." We ended up selecting a Raleigh Venture ($259, the other bikes we looked at were between $360-$420) in a pretty light blue color that the employee was able to make very short before we even left the store so that it could be immediately ridden by my mom. Solid, owner-operated bike shop with good mechanic skills that can cover a wide range of needs. I've had them do everthing from complete wheel rebuilds for our racing tandem, front suspension repair for my Cannondale (which the now defunct Wright Brothers' shop had screwed up), and general tune ups. Nice selection of reasonably priced road, mountain and cruiser bikes. I'd always go to see JB at West Chester Cyclery versus the Montgomery Cyclery shop down the road (which took nearly a month to rebuild a failed wheel on a new bike they had sold us). read more
