I had a great experience snowshoeing at the Northstar Cross Country Center!…read more I purchased a pass for $71 (steep, but cheaper than skiing so whatever!) and road the gondola up to the center. It was easy to get there from the village and there is clear signage directing guests to the center. Plus, the gondola is scenic and fun! The staff were super friendly and helpful. They reviewed the trail map with me and gave me route recommendations based on the trail conditions following a week of heavy snow. The center is equipped with hot water and clean restrooms. I especially appreciated the Caboose Warming Hut along my route - it was such a treat enjoying a warm beverage in a snowy meadow as I took a break from snowshoeing. There were plenty of scenic trails to explore and I enjoyed the views of the lake about 3.5 miles from the center. I brought my own snowshoes and trekking poles, but they have rental gear if needed. This was a fun way to spend the day while my friends went skiing. Definitely beats waiting in the village. ;)

I have held a season pass to Northstar Ski Resort for six consecutive years; however, an experience…read moreat the resort left me feeling utterly frustrated. The conditions here seem to deteriorate with each passing year. First, the resort's mobile app is extremely unreliable. The app often indicates that certain trails have just been groomed by snowcats, yet when I actually go to ski them, I discover that several runs clearly haven't seen a groomer in days. This dissemination of false information is not only misleading but also jeopardizes skier safety and severely detracts from the overall guest experience. Furthermore, last month, the Comstock lift experienced frequent operational failures, attributable to staff handling, which clearly demonstrates an urgent need for professional staff training. Second, the management here appears to be extremely lax. During the early morning hours a time when operational efficiency should be at its absolute peak, staff members were observed sitting around chatting in plain sight, completely neglecting their duties. This lackadaisical attitude projects an image of extreme unprofessionalism to the public. Worse still, a male employee working at the ski lifts displayed a rude and highly aggressive attitude. This abysmal level of customer service is absolutely unacceptable, particularly at a ski resort that is supposed to prioritize the "guest experience" above all else. In summary, this was a deeply disappointing experience. Management must take full responsibility for the current situation and immediately implement measures to effectively enhance staff training and supervision. I hope the next ski season brings with it a completely renewed experience.

If you're not into skiing and just want to enjoy some fall hiking and quiet hot tubs, I recommend booking in mid October. However, the gondola and most restaurants and shops are closed. We booked and three bed and three bath and really enjoyed the space. There is also a fully stocked kitchen, full size refrigerator and freezer, a washer and dryer, and plenty of common space. We could have stayed for a month and all been very comfortable. The only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is that the service was somewhat lacking. This could have been due to the off season, but we had an odd experience where cleaning staff entered our room accidentally, realized it was not an empty room, and left. However, they left our door wide open. We were gone for the day, so we don't know how long everything was open and if anyone else entered the room. Despite the issue with our room, we would happily stay here again. The cost for what you get makes it very worthwhile.

We liked our room, and most of the staff we interacted with were friendly and welcoming. The main downside was the checkout process. We checked out on Tuesday, June 23rd, and Lizzy at the front desk was extremely rude, which left a disappointing final impression after an otherwise enjoyable stay. The gym also felt outdated and could use some upgrades. Overall, we enjoyed the stay and would consider returning, but I hope management addresses the customer service issue at checkout and updates the fitness area.

Service Terrible check-in…read moreConfusing to navigate; lack of signs, lights, (properly annotated) directories. Customer support for the property was condescending & was generally unhelpful over the phone until we asked to speak to a supervisor. It's a ghost town (for better or for worse) outside of peak business hours, so try to arrive early! The building numbers & street addresses also need to be reconciled as it currently points to a storage unit vs the entrance. Room (condo) Incredibly spacious condo for multiple couples and/or families. Plenty of desk space to work, counter space to cook, & table space to share meals. The balcony is an amazing lounging space; great for people watching or listening to the rain. Unexpectedly comfortable couches-- great for napping or sitting. Very cozy space with lots of tasteful stock furnishings, fireplace, & paintings. Generally peaceful & quiet unless the upstairs guests have kids running around. Good cleaning standards. Kitchen Full kitchen with modern stainless steel kitchen aide & cuisine art appliances, plus all the tools & dinner ware you might need. The dishwashing is hit-or-miss & is all by-hand since the topside washer buttons are blocked by the island. Otherwise it's a great kitchen. Very comfortable bar seats for eating at the island. Bed Large canopy bed with a king mattress. The mattress is overdue for a refresh/flip & the pillows weren't dense enough, but the linens were clean & soft. A humidifier is included & can be found in the closet. Bath bathrooms are equipped with a few pre stocked bath products, but bring your own as it's incredibly dry up here. Very well-maintained combination shower-tubs; No visible rust or pink mold. Single spray pattern shower head, no hose or frills. Tubs are deep enough for a long soak in salts & a bath bomb, available at the village market. The tiles have a great texture & aesthetic. The backsplashes are eye catching. Good size towels without much wear & tear. Strong water pressure throughout. Standard professional series (2-ply) toilet paper. TV Multiple flat screen smart TVs with well-placed mounts. Screen share/Casting is supported & streaming apps are available. Wi-Fi Blazing fast & stable; streaming, conference calls & uploads had great quality of service . 870 mbps down & 25 mbps up on average. Cell reception was also consistently strong throughout the unit. Food Absolutely nothing outside of the low-effort restaurants in the village & a small market. There's quite a selection of overpriced groceries, with an assortment of allergen friendly meals. Unfortunately, all the frozen foods purchased from multiple isles were badly freezer burned, so I highly recommend packing your own groceries. The business hours are very inconvenient here: Thursday - Monday, 8am-8pm Amazing property for a self-contained staycation, but the "vacation village" angle is lacking a property/community manager to make the experience as consistent & hassle free as possible. It can be quite frustrating for a first-timer but once you settle in, it's a pleasantly secluded stay. comfort quality convenience 3.5/5 Video walkthrough: https://www.instagram.com/reel/CtX8U3-MRbS/?igshid=YzcxN2Q2NzY0OA==

The World According to Noelle Allergic Girl's Guide to Life…read more My husband and I stayed at the Ritz Carlton Destination Club at Lake Tahoe. This location is about 20 minutes away from downtown Truckee and 30 minutes from Lake Tahoe. There is a separate members entrance away from the main hotel. Upon arrival we met our valet Daniel. He took our bags and met us up at our room. Marcella provided excellent customer service upon check in and was very helpful, welcoming and informative. There are three choices for members to select- two bedrooms, three bedrooms and four bedrooms which all include a kitchen with Viking appliances (Fridge, Dishwasher, Microwave), a dining room, living room, washer and dryer, and each bedroom has their own desk area and master suite bath room with heated floors. Each of the bathrooms are stocked with Bvlgari soaps and shampoos. They also have a gym with state of the art equipment, bottled water in the fridge and headphones. If you are booked for spa appointments do note that the club residences are quite a hike and on the opposite end of the property in relation to the spa which is located in the hotel. If you have allergies (like I do) feel free to request a feather free room. The housekeeping staff was amazing- attentive without being intrusive. My husband and I enjoyed our stay at this Ritz Carlton Destination Property. There are two types of memberships for the Ritz Carlton properties: 1. Portfolio Membership 2. Home Club Membership Out of the two the Portfolio Membership provides greater travel ability to enjoy the different properties. The Home Club Membership is a good option for those who have a favorite place that they like to vacation to yearly. The beds didn't have a down alternative which made sleeping uncomfortable but I was assured they would be ordering a down alternative for those with down feather allergies. What would have made this a five star experience would have been the lack of rudeness my husband and I experienced from Nancy in the concierge office. This Ritz Carlton Destination Club is perfect for those who love to ski and be outdoors. This property is almost two years old and is just lovely.

Should read 4.5 stars but I'm rounding up!…read more We had the most amazing ski vacation at the Ritz Carlton. We spent 4 nights here and did not leave the property except to ski 3 whole days. Here's my notes: ***Seriously ski-in ski-out: The hotel is located on a ski run, so we literally traded our shoes for our boots at the mountain concierge and then grabbed our skis/poles from the concierge outside and started skiing down the mountain to our desired lift. No need to hop on a slow gondola or walk a distance to get to the snow. ***Some fun hotel perks: The hotel does a smores thing at 4:30 pm every day and we thought it was a very nice event. They gave everyone a plate with a graham cracker and piece of chocolate, then your choice of marshmallow (they had strawberry and regular). They also gave us a cup of hot chocolate with a little liquor if you were so inclined. They also had Kids events and we had our little guy paint a pinecone. He had a great time with the very nice guy running it and who knew painting a pinecone could be so fun? ***The restaurants: While we had high hopes for going out to Truckee to check out some cool restaurants, we were so tired from skiing at the end of each day, we never made it out. We loved the food at the Lobby Bar (I think it's called the Living Room) and their new taco restaurant which is called Montesa. Both are expensive (for example, get ready to pay $11-13 for a taco) but we really liked the food at both places. We also ate at Manzanita which is the high end restaurant and the service was amazing plus our little guy LOVED their kids buffet. We on the other hand thought the food was just okay and I don't think we would do this again. So why 4.5 stars and not 5 stars? ***Communication could be improved. We asked directions to the Smores event and a staff member told us it was at the Backyard restaurant and it's not there. In addition, because we pushed out our trip by a day due to the weather, we lost the room upgrade we had secured. It was not the Ritz Carton's fault that we lost this, but there were a couple places where we told the Ritz what was happening with us and they could have told us that they could not guarantee our upgrade. ***Service times at the Lobby Bar restaurant were extremely slow. There was one night where we waited for our food for at least an hour and a half. We will be back!

We booked a family stay at the Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe for myself, my wife, and our six-year-old…read moreson. A few days before our trip, our son was diagnosed and tested positive for RSV. I called and asked for a reservation modification given the circumstances, and I was completely open to alternative solutions: a date modification, Marriott Bonvoy points to rebook on our own, a refund, or anything reasonable. We just wanted some flexibility. What followed was the usual runaround. We called the Ritz-Carlton directly, they told us they couldn't help because we booked through American Express. So we called Amex, whose concierge team was empathetic and professional. They reached out to the Ritz-Carlton on our behalf. After waiting 24 hours and following up, we were told that Ritz-Carlton management responded via email and declined to allow modifications to the reservation and still expect us at the property unless we pay a $750 cancellation fee. We presented a positive diagnosis of a contagious virus, were willing to accept any reasonable accommodation; a date change, points, anything, and the answer was no. This raises a serious concern beyond our personal frustration. If the Ritz-Carlton would rather a family show up carrying a contagious virus than accommodate a date change, what does that say about their commitment to the health and safety of their guests and staff? How many other sick guests have they pressured to check in rather than lose a night's revenue? What about employees who may face the same inflexibility when they're ill? For a brand that markets itself as the gold standard of hospitality, this experience seems like the opposite.

I have to put 1 star because I wasn't able to experience anything…read more Today I just put down my phone regarding to this reservation the 6th times. One village has been always been a place we wanted to try out, however they never made themselves available. We made this reservation more than a month ahead of time. Unfortunately I found out immediately I can not make it on that weekend and I was trying to cancel the reservation. Without luck trying everything on the website and apps, I called in. I was kicked between Hyatt Globalist hotline, One village office, Hyatt vacation club a few times. One time, I waited on line for more than an hour ending up being approved for a cancellation free of charge. I got an email address, I was informed that I need to send in my info and they will take care of the cancellation. Guess what? Two days later I got the response that there was no evidence or proof that they agreed that they will cancel it for me. Good point! How do I get evidence from customer calls? Does anyone record while they are calling with customer service? Ok, I called Hyatt again, they must have recorded it. I went through two levels of escalation, and got feedbacks that they will review the record. I am still waiting. There are 15 days till the reservation and I will see what more I need to do. Above is the whole situation, here's the take-away: - Horrible customer services. Instead of thinking for and trying to resolve problems for the guests, the only thing they did is to kick the balls around. No one is willing to take any extra miles to help. On the contrary, everyone was trying to escape from interacting. For at least three times in the call, I got transferred abruptly without even being notified. - One village place residences has very inflexible booking process. If you are not sure you are going, be careful. You will loose it all, once you click the button, and they don't care. - No leadership. It's obvious that Hyatt Vacation Club do not have a central decision making process. So everyone can make some decision and also no one can make it. That's why guests got kicked back and forth. Have you experienced being transferred 4 times on one customer service call? Each time is a full explanation, each time people just kicked balls. Now with this attitude, I have deep doubt that they will provide good hospitality and services on site as the whole team's mindset is not on how to care for guests. So my advice is, please avoid this place. Updated April 9th. Above was the comment I made previously and I got contacted by HVC customer service. Eventually they sent an email explaining how time sharing works and it's too late so they can not do anything. Here's the point I replied: - First of all it was too late because they kept kicking customer around for 6 times, 2 weeks without actually trying to take actions. - Secondly, it was apparent that Hyatt customer service promised that the reservation will be cancelled without penalty. The Hyatt customer service representative reprents Hyatt. If this is a mistake or misinformation. I am wondering why in all the later communication no one talked about to make up the mistakes that your representative made. And even more, Hyatt asked customer to provide evidence of communications ? - At last, what I am complaining about, is not just the fact that the cancellation can not be done, is the fact through this whole process, how messy and unorganized Hyatt's customer service communication was. I could feel in this whole process, the goal of every customer service was not to address customer's concerns but to pick up and hang off the phone without a trouble made to themselves.

We stayed at the "one village place residences" from Saturday - Wednesday right after Thanksgiving…read more Super cute resort with quite a few things to do. We really enjoyed our stay here and definitely will be back. Some things I enjoyed specifically about our room: Each room has its only heating and cooling system so you can control each area. The master baths bathtub is like the biggest tub I've ever seen. I loved how many lights I could dim. Both couches were pull out couches which made 4 sleeping areas if needed. The private parking right next to our elevator. The gondola lifts access right inside our lobby. The washer and dryer. Little bit of everything to make our stay comfortable such as extra towels, laundry soap plenty of extra bedding and toilet paper. My personal complaints: The bedding and pillows at our room were pretty cheap quality. Blankets and sheets were super stiff and uncomfortable pillows super flat. Didn't sleep well or fall asleep well. The bath tub and shower didn't work in the spare room. On Saturday night (I assume weekends the machines running right outside our balcony ran super late and pretty early. Typically I like some white noise but I can see how that would be very disturbing to others.) The hot tub on our site is completely shut down. There was an obnoxious amount of little tables everywhere I just ended up trying to pile everything in an area to make walking room Lastly there isn't any really good coffee at the entire resort I tried every spot including the coffee that was provided in our room. Overall great experience. Beautiful buildings. Friendly staff everywhere.
