Overall, it's a great place to stay. It's right by a lot of stores so you can get groceries easily, just walk across the street. I'm not sure why parking is $10. It seems like a weird surcharge in a place where parking is not hard to come by. The room was clean and bigger than my first college apartment. There is a breakfast in the mornings that seemed like it would meet a lot of dietary requirements or restrictions. I just got coffee, but it was a bummer that it ran out pretty quickly and was not refilled often both days. I did ask for a quiet room and unfortunately was put in the last room on the first floor next to one of the doorways going out the side of the building. Every time the door slammed shut, it reverberated through the head of the bed, which I assume shared the wall the door was on. The first night it wasn't so bad but the second night was 4 July so there was a lot of people going in and out very late. It wasn't worth changing the room as it was most noticeable the last night of my stay, but keep it in mind when you are booking a room to ask for one that isn't on the very end near the door if that is bothersome to you. Late checkin early morning around 3am and was greeted by Issac. Very happy friendly night clerk. Greeted w a smile and was very polite and made us feel welcomed. Needed that after a long 5 hour drive from Bay Area. He got us checked quickly without issues so we can get our needed rest. He was also very helpful; I brought back luggage rack back down and Issac met me as soon as I came out of elevator and told me he can put it away for me . That's service! Extra points for Issac. Checked in 3/22. Traveling with kids and a dog ($125 dollar dog fee!) . We did not receive the room we booked and was told we made an error by not calling ahead to request the room on our reservation. We took the room and later that night when I was locking up to go to bed I find out the front door deadbolt doesn't work. I called the front desk to request help and after I explained that the deadbolt didn't work the front desk person repeatedly asked, "what do you need?" In a very cold rude manner. Walked up to the front and 2 ladies told me to wake up my family and move rooms or leave the hotel. Wait? Didn't you tell us you couldn't move us rooms earlier when we requested it when we arrived? Another amazing stay with Michele at the front desk! I love being here. I think this is my 4th stay. They really take care of you here. I feel like they care about me. The rooms are impeccably clean and welcoming. My dog loves it, too. It has a safe circle of sidewalk around the hotel with plenty of dog bags and trash cans to keep the place clean. I actually got here early so I went driving around. This is not your grandpa's Bakersfield. I think it is so nice in this area! There's all the fun stores like Target but new. There is new housing. Nice walking paths. I went to Menchie's Yogurt and everyone inside that worked there and outside enjoying their yogurt were super nice. I've always found Marriott hotels to be reliable, clean and well maintained. This particular hotel was no exception. I had a one bedroom suite for the stay, and it was fine. I thought the furnishings were somewhat simple, but certainly ok. Breakfast is free and it's pretty much your typical hotel breakfast offerings. Again nothing special, but certainly appropriate for the stay. There is plenty of free parking. This hotel is in a quieter area well way from all the traffic and noise, which I thought was a plus. read more

We had such a pleasant stay here and it far surpassed our expectations! We were driving through and stayed for one night. The room is extremely spacious and clean. We also slept phenomenally as the room was quiet and peaceful. Our standout was the morning. They have complementary coffee and breakfast from 6-9am. The coffee bar was amazing! Probably one of the better coffee bars we've had at a Marriott filled with hot coffee, cold brew, different milks, and even different sweetners. The breakfast selection was also great! Seemed well beyond the typical breakfast options. For having little to no expectations, just needing somewhere to sleep, to having an excellent stay, this place was great! read more

New and modern upgraded building. Excellent customer service at front desk. They are very organized, resourceful, and welcoming. Honestly, I think this Residence Inn have the best breakfast bar setup compared to any other Residence Inn locations between the San Francisco Bay Area and Las Vegas if you're traveling to/from these areas. You get more than just eggs and sausage sandwiches in the morning. Food is fully stocked and very clean in up-keeping. Great management. They pay attention to details. The room I got on 5th floor near a corner was perfect. I redeemed it with rewards points. Full suite with the kitchen, good size refrigerator, dishwasher, oven/stovetop, microwave, and more. Updated kitchen with bar countertop and bar chairs. Nice! Very comfortable and spacious. Closet was spacious and so was the bathroom area and hallway going towards the bathroom. Everything was fully stocked. Livingroom sofa was extremely nice and comfortable. Make yourself at home. Everything was super clean as if I was the first guest using the appliances. Most importantly, the perfect night sleep because it was very quiet due to the location here. Bed was extremely comfortable too. Walkable and convenient to get onto busy streets. Retail stores, gas stations & restaurants are within easy distance. I do plan to be back during my next trips. I used to stay at other Marriott hotel locations in Bakersfield, which weren't always the best, so this place totally met and exceeded my expectations. Hotel is nice, however, the overnight front desk staff Patricia was less than welcoming. During check in, her demeanor wasn't as welcoming as the 2 other guests checking in prior to me as if she was judging my appearance after a 6 hr drive. My family and I get to our room and notice that it was not what I had prepaid for, but after a 6 hour drive we were all too tired and made the room work and just assumed they had overbooked as hotels do. At this point, I tried to contact the front desk to let them know about the discrepancy and ask to be refunded the difference since we didn't mind the room. I attempted to contact front desk, but the room phone wouldn't connect. Then went down to the front desk, stood around for 5-10 minutes and no one was there. No note was present indicating when staff would return or how to notify them you were at the desk. As it was getting late and I was getting more tired, I just decided to deal with it in the morning. My next attempt comes in the morning and I see Patricia again at the desk. I let her know the situation and just inquired about being refunded the difference. Immediately, she develops a rude attitude and casts blame on me for her mistake and why I didn't let them know right away. She was also initially insistent that was the correct room I had booked, until I said I could show her the e-mailed receipt. I informed her of my prior attempts to contact front desk overnight, but she kept on insisting she was present at the front desk all night. Security camera footage would prove that I had came down to the desk and she was not present. My whole interaction with her, she was unapologetic and argumentative to everything I said. Fortunately, the manager in the morning was available and showed more courtesy in addressing the issue. Overall, I wasn't even upset about the room mistake, but upset about the response from Patricia making me feel as if I had made the error and calling me a liar. I probably wouldn't return to this location due to the negative perception she's left, which is unfortunate because the other staff were great. read more

We stayed at the Residence Inn for 3 nights for the Jehovah's Witnesses convention in late June and this was our second stay in the last few years. The staff was attentive, friendly and helpful. At one point, I accidentally left my car door open and a staff member called me and let me know what happened and they had closed the door for me. I told them that I was really tired but would come down to lock the door but they said they would go ahead and go back out and lock the door for me. The facility is top notch and when I come to Bakersfield it's the hotel I prefer to stay in. I really enjoyed my time at this hotel. read more

Thai place was the worse , I had a business meeting to go to on Saturday may 17 and I took my whole family, my check in was at 3:00 pm I showed up at 2:45 pm the front desk manager Monique told me that my room was going to be another 30 minutes so we waited , mimed you I have a 8 month old son. Finally she told me my room was ready by that time it was 3:40 , got my keys , waited on the elevator one of the elevator's was broke. Went to the 4th floor room 412 and the lady where still cleaning the room and they told me in Spanish " Monique did not tell us to get the room ready till like 10 minutes ago we are sorry" so by the time I got my room it was 4:00 pm. Next day went down to get complementary breakfast with the family which it was t Horrible then as we where finishing up and walking back to our room we see the biggest cockroach ever. Will definitely stay here again- the shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom is the best that's I've ever been provided in a hotel! And I'm a hair color girly so I appreciate a good conditioning product. Room was wonderful- my only complaint is that the AC doesn't vent into the bedroom so you have to keep the bedroom door open, and the AC would also turn off and reset at night so I have to get up 3-4x to turn it back on. On one of the hottest days of the year the air-conditioning in my room stopped working. I spent the night in 85° temperatures and climbing. The hotel was full so they couldn't transfer me. The odd thing was that every single dollar I paid to spend the night in that sauna was good, yet not every amenity in my room functioned, including the most important one. When I asked for some kind of renumeration for the night of misery I suffered in their hotel, they just laughed. I asked twice. They laughed twice. Our work group stayed at the Residence Inn when we were in Bakersfield on business, but we will do so no longer. We found the customer service and hospitality to be subpar. read more

I feel like I'm being generous giving them 3 stars, considering some of the conditions of this hotel. There are two Residence Inn locations in Bakersfield and this is definitely the better one, considering the two. It's remodeled, but they both still have some funky smells. I was in Bakersfield for work for 4 days. I chose this hotel since I haven't had much luck with any other hotels in this city. I stayed in a one bedroom suite and the room was large with a kitchen and seating area next to a bedroom. Unfortunately, it didn't seem to be entirely clean. The kitchen area was seemingly clean but when I was putting some food in the refrigerator, the kitchen towels smelled moldy. In the bedroom, there's no air ventilating so it was extremely hot at night. The AC was working fine in the kitchen area, so I had to keep the door open in order to get any air. This wasn't the most comfortable and I was waking up all throughout the night. As many other patrons mentioned, I did not have any hot water for 2 days. On the 3rd day I had to be up really early, and that's when I actually had a hot shower. This is the second time I stayed here and it's only because there are not many options in Bakersfield and the location is central. read more

Warning-there is no hot water at this hotel. This is the third review with this complaint and the front desk clerk, Dasha, said "it happens." She and her manager, Melissa, seem to also find this funny. Here is my story... I called the front desk and I spoke with Dasha to inform her that I did not have hot water for my shower. Dasha told me that she would call maintenance and I should just run the hot water for ten minutes. She said they have this issue sometimes and it would warm up. I let the water run for another ten minutes, but no luck. I called Dasha back in order to tell her and ask what maintenance said. She hadn't called maintenance. She told me to keep it running and she was going to call maintenance. She said she'd call back in five minutes. She didn't. I called her back in ten minutes and she blew me off. She said, "they are working on it" and she hung up on me! At this point, I am in a towel undressed and cold for 30 minutes. I am also late for work. I called back and I asked to speak with her manager. She would not put her manager on the phone. She was busy. I told her that I would wait. Her manager is here, and I needed to speak with her. This went back and forth for a while and finally, Melissa, the manager, got on the phone. I told Melissa that I had been blown off and hung up on. Melissa defended Dasha and felt her behavior was appropriate. I am a Marriott Gold Elite, and this fact didn't even change Melissa's perspective. Melissa told me that the issue is fixed now anyway, and I have hot water. I hung up the phone and went back to the running shower. It was still frigid. I called the front desk and I asked Dasha to speak with Melissa. Melissa wouldn't come to the phone. So, I took a frigid, fast shower. My toes were blue. After I realized this hotel is being run by nasty, cruel people, I packed my bags. I was hosting a dinner that night and I didn't feel comfortable leaving my bags in the room unattended. How bad is it that a "residence inn", a place that should feel like a second home to business travelers such as myself, felt unsafe?! I paid for the night because I wasn't about to get into it again with nasty Dasha and nastier Melissa. I drove home that night and paid nearly $300 for a room. To make matters worse, this property is located on a concrete alley. There are constant, homeless drug addicts wondering through there. I attached pictures. The fence has been cut open so these walking dead can walk into the hotel parking lot and break into your car. They have not fixed this opening. Pictures attached. The room was also dirty during this time of Covid. There are more pictures attached. I didn't have soap and I had to hunt down the cleaning lady for bars of soap. All in all, despite being a Marriott Gold Elite, I will be staying at the Hyatt down the street. This place was an absolute nightmare, an expensive nightmare! Had family staying in town for my wedding on 10/23. As a gift to them I booked and paid for all of their rooms as I get a military/government discount. One hour prior to check in and minutes prior to me having to show up for pictures I am informed that my rate would not be honored. If I would have been told this months ago when I booked (did the same thing for a family reunion in July) in person I would have figured something else out. Hell of I would have been a week in advance I would have been able to make other arrangements. Needless to say I have all of my confirmations and actually went in the day before to give credit card information to the hotel so I wouldn't have to go back. It took much arguing on my part to get them to "reduce" the rate to $70 more than I agreed to. On top of that they were charging a new $10 fee for parking in a parking lot that only guests will ever use. This is all very unfortunate because I travel to Bakersfield often for work and when I do I usually book 3-5 other people for this hotel because it is in a great location. I am done with this location in Bakersfield and will definitely NEVER be staying there again due to their bait and switch tactics. We also had a guest staying there on a corporate rate. When they checked out they were told it wasn't honored. The management team at this establishment is GARBAGE. read more

I'm a gold elite member and was booking on points, but hoping for my upgrade to a 1br suite as we have a toddler we need to put down before ourselves. Called the hotel as only studio suites were showing on the Bonvoy app. Was told to go ahead and book and it was no problem, they would upgrade me at check in. I booked, drove the 10 minutes to the hotel, and was told immediately at check in that they couldn't possibly upgrade me, because they didn't have any inventory left for that type of room. But, they told me multiple times that if I wanted to pay cash, they had that exact room available, no problem. Just no upgrade to it from points, because THE SAME EXACT ROOM wasn't available for that, and there was nothing they could do. I literally called the other Residence Inn in Bakersfield and went through the same question and booking from the app, and he confirmed my upgrade over the phone and we drove over there. Management here is either too skeevy trying to get a commission on a cash room, or too inept to do something their sister property had no problem doing. Either way, avoid. read more

This property is well maintained, clean room, rooms come with a kitchen, located in a safe area, plenty of parking, breakfast is , and friendly staff. Overall a pleasant and comfortable experience. I stayed here for work reasons and I often stay at hotels. I used to stay at other locations not by Marriott and they were decent. The Marriott I stayed at was better overall. The rooms are more like studio apartments complete with a couch, kitchenette with dishes to cook meals , and walk-in shower. The morning breakfast is much better too. It has the typical bagels and waffles but this morning was English muffins sandwiches and spinach quiche with cheese. It was very tasty and made my stay much more pleasurable. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I was always greeted coming and going. I highly recommend the Marriott. I plan on booking her for my future stays as I travel. read more

Disappointing! Stayed 7 days in an adjoining room that was given to me (516). On day 2, my room smelled like someone was smoking in my room so I called down to office to confirm it was a non-smoking facility which clerk confirmed and stated she would call me back and never did. I tried to seal the adjoining room cavity the best I could to reduce the smell. 2 days later I removed my items I tried to seal and immediately smelled cigarettes again and got on floor and confirmed smell was coming from room 518. Recommend you avoid rooms 516 & 518 on your travels. Management seems to be indifferent about the whole situation. HBO Channel is FS1. This hotel used to be my best option in this area, which will now be reevaluated and look for better options since I am a frequent traveler to this area. read more

This hotel far exceeded our expectations. We stayed here one night as a stopover on a road trip. The hotel is very clean and spacious. Love all the shelves, drawers, and hooks in the room. We had everything we needed in the kitchen. Very large bathroom area. The room was quiet, other than the loud HVAC (but pretty typical of most hotels). We stayed on the top floor. There's not a lot in the area right around the hotel, which is probably why it felt so quiet. Staff were helpful and the breakfast was good. The place felt very safe also. Overall, it was a huge difference from the other Bakersfield hotels we have stayed in. The location is a little inconvenient, as it is a few miles from the freeway, but well worth the few extra minutes. We will definitely stay here again. read more

Omg they triple charged me, I called they said it's normal and since the charges were "pending" they'd drop in 3 days. Well 5 days later 2 of the 3 charges went through. They literally ended up charging me double. I called and get this they couldn't locate my reservation, the manager ended up finding me by my CC number. She said they misspelled my name ( even though they had my id and CC in their hands ). She apologized and promised to reverse the charges. The room was well put together. The staff was very friendly and the overall quality of the hotel is nice and clean. The shower water pressure was abysmal and it takes about 5 minutes to get hot. I went to this hotel that has been open a month. Very nice staff and nice rooms. I went to take a shower in the morning and the flow was literally a few drips of cold water. Think of a plant water can with half of the holes blocked up and the other half of the holes halfway blocked. Was not even enough for my wife to wash her hair and remove the shampoo. We had to finish in the sink. New hotel you would think this stuff would of been checked before opening. read more
