I would like to express what an amazing stay I had and commend the entire staff for their professionalism. Everyone was courteous and attentive throughout my visit. Natalie at Reservations was especially outstanding--friendly, outgoing, extremely knowledgeable, and very understanding. Her helpful attitude made the experience even more enjoyable. I was also very impressed with how clean the rooms were. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, and I had one of the best nights of sleep I've had in a long time. I truly have nothing but positive things to say about my stay. The management team also deserves recognition, particularly Assistant Manager Anzio Rezende, who went well beyond the scope of their role to ensure I was properly assisted. Everything. The good experience stopped the moment check-in was complete. You walk a mile to get to your Room, so good luck if you brought more than 2 bags. The rooms are cramped, and the fixtures, finishes and furniture in the rooms and the common spaces (corridors, lobby, "lounge", stairs, elevators) are all dated & worn. I noted more Code Violations (Fire & Life Safety) than I could count. Fire Doors propped open (all of them...), corridor ceilings 6" lower than even the most lax Codes would allow, handrails and guardrails noncompliant, it should be shut-down and renovated. And, the bathroom had holes in the walls and bathtub. I had brought a bottle of Champagne for my wife and I to share (not that there was anything left to celebrate in the run-down place...), so I walked all the way back to the "Lounge" (itself a joke), and asked the Bartender for two glasses. He smiled, and handed me two little plastic cups. I could see the actual glasses behind him. I reminded him that I had asked for "Glasses", and he smiled and pushed the plastic cups at me. "Here", he said. "These are not Glasses, they are Cups..." I responded. "That's what you get." He said. "No, this is not appropriate." I responded. He shrugged and turned his back to me. Largely disappointed and will never be returning to the Kenilworth. This hotel has better reviews than most near the Newark airport but I'm not sure how. First, they advertise free parking. They in fact, do not offer free parking for the park and ride to the airport. The front desk employee said that the park and ride package is an option when booking on the website. I brought up the website to him to show that that was indeed not true. When he was proven wrong, he had no apologies. This was not an option when booking and would have led me to book elsewhere. They also charged me for an extra night of parking and I had to visit the front desk to request a refund for their incorrect charge. Furthermore, the free shuttle to the airport does not run 24/7. I did not see it running at all the days we were there. Instead, the hotel orders you a Lyft or Uber to the airport and back. This is not an issue unless you are traveling with a child needing a car seat or booster. Lyft and Uber do not offer car seat options in the Newark area. Therefore we had to lug our car seat around with us for our entire vacation, which was incredibly inconvenient and annoying. This wouldn't have been necessary if using a shuttle bus. Again, had this information been presented on their website, I could have booked elsewhere to prevent this issue. To make matters worse, the first Lyft they ordered for us showed up and was not large enough for our party, so we had to wait for another. When returning from the airport, they couldn't find a Lyft large enough for 4 people and luggage, so we were sent back in 2 rides. Another inconvenience when traveling with children. The hotel lobby itself was nice. However, the bottom floor where our room was needed attention. There were random leaks and puddles in the hallways and in our bathroom. Stayed there two nights for wedding first thing the safe did not work. I asked somebody about it and they said they'll send somebody they did it. The side door did not work to get in the hotel. You have to walk all the way around to the front to get back in try to take a bath. The stopper didn't work. The door looked like it was waterlogged then with breakfast, they said bacon was available no bacon in two days. I talked to somebody at the front desk. They assured me everything was gonna be fixed. Edit to add: The night manager I spoke to last night amended the issue for me. I still have not had a response from the GM. The booking issue was resolved to my satisfaction. Hotel Kenilworth seems to be a remodeled Motel 6 or the like. The walls are so thin that I barely got 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep between the late night guests in the halls and the early morning door opening guests. There was hair on the bathroom sink when I first arrived. Cleanliness was good otherwise, aside from some trash in the hallways. The room, itself, is in the basement and you can smell that fact. The pillows are more like throw pillows than actual pillows for sleep. Despite that, the beds are pretty comfortable. The aesthetics are very nice and you are given a warm cookie upon arrival with infused water available in the lobby, as well. As other reviews have stated, you do have to swipe your card and undue amount of times despite giving the card at booking. The front desk staff is fairly dismissive and brusque. I messaged the hotel immediately after making the reservation about a booking issue and never received a response. As it was a family emergency, I booked the same day of my arrival. I brought the issue to the front desk staff's attention upon check in and was told to call the third party service and talk to the manager in the morning (this was at 6pm). I called the third party service the next morning; they contacted the hotel and were dismissed by the manager to whom they spoke (not sure of the person's name). After calling the third party and being told this account, I went to the front desk, as suggested, to speak to the manager. She was not available at 1030am, so the front desk person (who was also present when I checked in the day before and suggested this course of action) took a message with my contact information to give to the general manager, Lauren (sp?), upon her return. No response as of 9pm that night so I spoke to the front desk staff, again. This time I relayed the issue to the night manager who told me to call the third party service. I informed him I had and they had spoken to a manager. He replied that they had not spoken to him (rather brusquely). I told him they had spoken to a manager that morning according to the employee's account of the situation. He then said it must have been the general manager, Lauren, and said he would contact her to check the status. Whether or not the issue can be resolved, I feel it important that the manager respond to direct requests for contact. I am hopeful I will hear from her tomorrow. From the outside, it looked unassuming to me. Inside is beautifully charming with nice staff. The hotel feels like a weird mix of classy and okayness and I don't know what it is. Maybe part of It is just the general area. Location is convenient to the airport. Area of hotel seems nice itself even though the hilly location on the side is juxtaposed in a manner that make it a bit hard to find. It is a suburban location that can be tricky to get around without paying the toll roads galore around. The tolls make me have a squishy feeling in an already dense area. The general region seems like a mix of nice suburban life and working class. Hotel is great for park and fly as I would've had to pay about the same parking as doing park and fly since I was away long enough. Probably a hotel I would not choose due to price on my Own but it is reasonable for the area and what the offer. Great TV options and classy bathroom accessories. Fridge and microwave and love seat in my room- I did not expect that. Tried the fitness center. No sanitizing wipes available. Most guests here definitely don't come for this but I pushed myself to use this to be a bit active. They have these universal weight dumbbells that works well within this hotel setting. read more

The hotel was cute, cozy, clean, & very quiet. The bed was comfortable & they provided a good variety of pillows. The room had a fridge and a microwave. The front desk receptionist was very kind & helpful. They had free cookies at the front desk. They had soap, shampoo, conditioner, & lotion in the bathroom. And there was a large closet, an iron, & an ironing board. There was a big supermarket right across the street with a Starbucks inside. I slept in too late for the free breakfast, which ended at 10am, so I was able to quickly walk down to the grocery store & buy something for myself. When I arrived late at night in Newark, the airport shuttle wasn't running, so they called me a Lyft car to take me from the airport to the hotel & paid for it. The next day the shuttle was running & the driver was very helpful in getting me to the train station & buying my ticket to head into NYC. The only downside for the hotel was that the view from my room was just an ugly parking lot. But since I was only there to sleep, eat, & shower, the lack of view didn't bother me at all. I had the curtains closed anyway. I'd definitely recommend this hotel for anyone wanting somewhere to stay close to the Newark airport. read more

Decided to stay here for one night. We have early morning flights at Newark Airport and we just did not want to have to get up so early to travel to the airport. We checked in and parked our vehicle in the park and fly section of their parking lot. It odds super convenient and not too expensive. It feels good to be able to settle in and take a shower and get some rest before or early morning flight. The hotel is super clean and quiet. The rooms are very spacious and the bed is super comfortable. It is located right off the highway. The staff was very nice and helpful. My mom booked this room due to its close location for a morning meeting. The park at your own risk signs weren't assuring. It felt like the intro to Bates Motel. Once you make your way to your room the hallways are dark and gloomy. Poorly lit. She was hungry as she had a long drive and was told upon arrival that the restaurant featured on their website had been closed since COVID. False advertising. If it was mentioned on the website she would have stopped for food on the way instead of trying to drive around at 8 PM to find something that was open. When it was finally time to take it down for the night she noticed the bathroom sink was dirty, with a stopped up drain. The towels were ratty and dingy. The looks of the towels made her do a double check in the shower (major bates motel vibes). To top it off when it was time to lay down, she noticed a stray visitor on the pillow. Little more than a nice motel, but good for what it is. The Kenilworth is a fairly well-reviewed hotel in northern/central NJ. It's ridiculously close to the Garden State Parkway, which makes it convenient. The overall layout is that of a motel, but a nice one - it's fairly obvious that some effort went into remolding this place recently, which goes a long way. It definitely looks a lot better than the outside would have you believe. That said, little things were kinda annoying. My keys didn't work the first time around, there was no room service, and the maid service kept knocking on my door before check-out to subtly get me out. The television/cable didn't work quite right until I took some steps to fix the issue (they're not properly set up to handle the cable box, it seems). The WiFi is basically nonexistent, I ended up using my phone as a mobile hot spot the entire time. The beds are comfortable enough, though I admittedly had trouble sleeping in them for some reason. If you find yourself in the area, this isn't a bad choice - it just isn't nearly the premium place you might think given the price point/marketing. read more

Just closed on my house Friday August 26th After 25 years I now have to hand over the keys to the new buyers, My wallet with license and all credit cards went lost sadly during the final cleanup. Please, please, please stay away. THEY THREW ME AND MY TWO CHIDREN OUT ON THE STREET AND TRAUMATIZED MY KIDS. I was unable to stay the entire time I paid for because they threw me out. I am considering taking it to courts. I was supposed to stay for three nights. The staff harassed me and mistreated me in the most obnoxious way, and when I tried to complain to the manager, the staff made up a story that did not happen and accused me of verbally assaulting them and calling them names (which I DID NOT). The manager treated me like dirt and believed everything that staff said and nothing that I said. When I said that I will go over their head to the CEO and Board, they told me to leave. And when I didn't leave, THEY CALLED THE POLICE. The police officers would not stop apologizing to me but said there is nothing they can do because it is a private property and a civil matter I have to deal with in courts. THE POLICE SAID THE HOTEL DOES THIS ALL THE TIME. They literally asked me to write a bad review and said they would never stay there. They get away with anything and everything, with absolutely zero accountability. I wouldn't even feel physically safe here because of their abusive, lying staff and management. This hotel is beautiful! The beds are super comfy, the room I stayed in was bright, decorated very pretty, and wonderfully functional in the bathroom and bed area. They have food to purchase, which is very good. The staff is extremely helpful and kind. To top it off, it is very conveniently located. I live close by in a four flight walk up and just had knee surgery. This hotel has been a blessing for my recovery! Very pleased with my stay! read more

I'll start with the pro's .. I've lived in this area for years and I remember when this hotel had their brand reopening. I always wanted to stay here it looked you know cute and cozy. Due to Covid my family and I can't travel the way we want to so we've been doing quick get aways in our area. Now for the " pros " .. you will be near Route 22 where there are so many options for food and things to do shopping etc, you can get the train to NYC , they offer FREE SHUTTLE transportation to and from the airport If you call and schedule in advance. Honestly I'm disappointed in this motel . And I will never stay here again , and I won't recommend it to anyone either. The feng shui is off , the nicest part of the hotel is the lobby. So it kind of tricks you. I remember driving up the hill to get to the parking lot I was thinking this shit feels haunted lol it's super secluded and away from everything and everyone. I found a deal online for like $70 I called to see if I could buy directly through the hotel some one with a heavy spanish accent told me I'll ask my manager and call you back we can only go as low as $99. Anyway as expected she never did return the call I booked anyway for the low . And that's exactly what I got LOW quality. I could have stayed in NY for a few dollars more and a true 4 star experience. Check in was pretty uneventful the young lady took our temperatures , and told us where the room was. Our room was a few feet away from the lobby area which was not ideal however due to Covid it wasn't horrible because the lobby is empty now. Walking into the room it was pitch black and we couldn't find the light switch. Once the lights was on I was like this is ugly I don't like it. Of course my partner tried to console me and I was so disappointed. The room was a motel. The furniture was chipped , there was a HUGE spider crawling by the bed above the wall I told my boyfriend let's go we're leaving he said ok if we see another one we'll leave. I was on edge all night. We didn't see another one. The couch in the room looked used and abused I refused to sit on it. Overall the hotel is fairly decent. The rooms are pretty small however the bathrooms are really nice. Extremely good water pressure and very hot for comfort. The room was very clean and the beds were pretty comfortable with clean bedding. The room was equipped with a kuerig with complimentary coffee and creamer. The room was also equipped with a fair sized refrigerator. My only gripe about my stay was. E loss of power around 6am. The power outage lasted for approximate a hour ands half. When I went up stairs they did however offer complimentary breakfast which consisted of Honey Nut Cheerios, fiber one bars, and some pills Greek yogurt. The room was $80 so I was expecting much however the power outage with the little bit of rain that was experienced was inconvenient. Great friendly people, recently updated rooms, and a nice hotel bar. There's even free parking The Kenilworth satisfied a lot of the qualities I look for in a hotel. The building looks like it was built in the 70s, but the amenities are modern. Decor is a charming mid-century modern kind of feel. The rooms are clean and updated. My room had a fridge, microwave and tv. TV had a lot of channels so it was perfect for lounging about. The bar experience was the standout. The people were accommodating to our channel change request (my coworker wanted to watch hockey). They even helped us find a great diner! Only thing I can knock is the lack of an elevator, which could be a problem for extended stays. I'd be back if I'm in the area. read more

This motor inn is right off the GSP Exit 138. I paid $185 a night for two nights after a storm knocked out our power. It was convenient, but maybe a little pricey for the overall experience. My first floor room was quiet, and immaculately clean, especially the bathroom. However, the shower valve was not operating properly. There's an in-room safe, but the battery was dead. The TV, Comcast cable on a 42" LG, was set up well for good picture quality. Ask for the wifi password when you check in. Most importantly, the king bed was very comfortable, the pillows were OK, and the towels were soft. The heat/AC worked properly and was quiet. Easy ingress and egress without having to walk through the lobby. There's a restaurant in the hotel that I didn't even see. Drive a few blocks into town for breakfast at Bagels 4-U, and lunch at Massimo Deli. There's a few good restaurants in the area for dinner. read more

The long dimly lit halls in the hotel feel very unsafe at night and I'm a 6' 200lb man...I would not let my wife or daughters stay here. It feels like and old motel that was converted. Don't waste your time staying here. You can find FAR BETTER accommodations in Linden, Cranford, or Clark. First when you walk in there is what appears to be some type of event space, music blasting and disruptive. The lobby was packed with people. The rooms are tiny, dingy with a layer of dust, and outdated. We could barely move in the room with the pullout bed out and there was minimal space between the king bed and the dressers leaving very small space to walk. This room was clearly designed for one bed, not a king and a pullout sofa. It was impossible to keep a comfortable temperature- it was either too hot or too hold. We had to switch between AC heat and nothing. The bathrooms were poorly equipped. The water did not get hot. We all took cold showers. Not enough towels and wash cloths we provided for the number of people staying. Also no linens are kept for the pullout bed. Front office staff became defensive and offered poor accommodations when dissatisfaction for the room was given. Our family required a king bed and they had no other rooms. The room was so crammed and small we were unable to use all of the features we paid for- including the refrigerator!!! The refrigerator was located in a cabinet- the cabinet door opened in the opposite direction as the refrigerator door so we could not use it. The doors collided. Abria at the front desk also refused to let our delivery driver up to the room stated it was policy yet was unable to provide the written policy. The delivery driver stayed "I just delivered there last week and I was allowed up to the room" Then because we asked for the policy we were placed on the "do not rent list" You could not pay me to rent a room from there anymore!!!! Avoid this place if you are looking for any type of quiet and peaceful stay with staff that want to be helpful and accommodating. If the general manager were smart he would fix the problems instead of making excuses. Customer beware!!!!! Worst hotel ever! Would not allow an extra two hours for late check out. They would not waive a late check out fee. I've stayed all over the world and have requested a late check out because I am attending a conference and can't come back in the middle of it to check out. The GM is rude and would not accommodate. There is no way you are cleaning every room by Noon. That's ridiculous. I don't think a 2pm request is unreasonable. I stay where the staff is friendly and accommodating. So I had to visit New Jersey unfortunately for a passing in my family. This was a quick visit and I mostly wanted a clean place to lay my head at night to get some rest , here are my thoughts on the Kenilworth. First off , do not let the pictures fool you, this is not a luxury hotel. This is in my opinion more of a motel experience. Upon arrival in Newark , it was a short drive on the parkway about 15 minutes or so , this part I liked. There's a Starbucks in a grocery store within walking distance, another positive. The motel itself is nothing special to look at as you drive up it does have ample free parking. As I checked in , the woman at the counter seemed very disinterested in helping me out. No smile , no welcome, very very cold. She explained that since I'm checking in at 1 pm instead of 3 they would put me in a room facing the freeway and it had noise. I was like um. Ok. I had no choice but thanks for selling it I get to my room and it does look exactly like the pictures. It's small but looks nice. Well, there's more than meets the eye. Since I flew a red eye flight by this time I was exhausted and decided to take a power nap as I pulled down the blanket I noticed dirty stains and little black hairs all over the bed. The comforter looked like it had a dead bug on it ewwwww How can you not put clean sheets on a bed? I called and they changed my room to another room with less dirty but still dirty sheets lol. Then I watched them send in the cleaning lady and pretty much scold her on what to look for in dirty sheets lol poor lady I felt bad for her. The "fresh" sheets were still kind of stained but at this point I just didn't care anymore at least they just came out of the dryer. Everyone smokes around the entrances of the motel so the smoke gets into the laundry room so my towels smelled like smoke. The sun rises into the window of the room and there are no black out curtains lol at 6 am if you facing the window you get woken up and blinded by the sun. As I checked out I received another cold person who seemed to be depressed. Overall , it was a pretty room that wasn't very clean and depressing atmosphere but I did get some sleep and it was close to airport. So if you need a place close to the airport and you can get a room cheap just make sure you look at the sheets before laying down and be ok with the smell of smoke It's better than a motel 6 but just slightly. read more

The Kenilworth was the perfect location for my out of town guests to stay overnight before attending my wedding at the Clubhouse at the Galloping Hill Clubhouse which was in close proximity. They were totally impressed with their room accommodations. The entire staff was courteous and accommodating during our weekend stay. Laurence Lucien the General Manager, was the best with taking care of my after party gathering which took place directly after my wedding. Jo Jo was the bartender in the Trellis Lounge for that evening. She was very personable and fun. We totally enjoyed her energy!! This was my second stay at this hotel due to a nearby wedding. This last stay has completely turned me off from this business. Very rude front desk and staff. Many rules and fees that seem to be a little much. I get policy, but when it is a large party like a wedding block (who would not be booking with them if it wasn't for the event) it seemed to be a little too much. They were not very accomadating to a large formal event such as a wedding like I've seen or experienced at other hotel/venues. Rates were high for what the experience was. Hallways smelled musty and seemed dark and depressing. Cameras everywhere. I get security, but this seemed to be excessive. And the "park at your own risk" all over the parking lots were just the icing on the cake. If I were a bride/groom I would shop around before booking here. They have a club right beside check in. The music was so loud that you can feel it. The door between the rooms wouldnt close tight and even when it was sorta close people were walking in & out & leaving too for open. Had to shout to check in. Now if you want to party- that seems be be the happening place. But if you want to peacefully check in and go to you room after a very long day. Avoid this place on Satyrday nights. All advertising in their site is inaccurate! No complementary breakfast no sanitation in or out of the rooms behind bed and furniture was never cleaned under tv gross coffee water container mildew &chunks of mild air conditioning unit filter was black with filth moldings over doorways etc black dust first room given had black curly short hairs on wall of bathroom especially in this pandemic of COVID-19 killing and effecting so many lives they advertise how sanitary they have made it for safety of their guests n staff.
