I was really pleased with our stay. I think others giving one star review based on a stain in the tub is being a bit extreme. For me, the room was in mostly good shape, clean, spacious, HVAC worked well. Shower had good pressure and temperature. Toilet could have had a stronger flush, and the bathroom sink drained slowly, in need of a snaking. That aside, it stayed quiet at night, and staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast offerings were probably above average, and we enjoyed the 24 hour coffee pods and ice pops for the kids as well (the latter is not an all day offering but rather was 4-8pm daily). Fitness center is small but clean as well. Good location and price for having pretty much a full kitchen included (minus an oven). Unfortunately I forgot to take pics of the room, but it is in a good location as well, minutes from Colonial Williamsburg. read more

I can't say for sure that this is the worst Mariott property in VA, but it's surely in the running. When we arrived, the bedsheet was torn, the toilet didn't flush and the light fixture was filled with dead bugs. Requests to get one of the soap dispensers in the bath repaired ( it was on the floor when we arrived) were ignored. Property feels old and poorly maintained. No easy flat access from parking lot into hotel. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. read more

I love all things Marriott but this Residence Inn is a hot mess! I will never, ever, I mean ever... stay here again. This experience has been awful. I am on business travel and was expecting a nice and pleasant stay but this hotel needs to close and go through some significant renovations. First, when you walk into the hotel and inside your room, it has the most awful mildew smell. It's sickening. There are stains in the bathtub that staff claim they can't clean. Rooms are dusty, and I found a cockroach underneath the sink. Disgusting! Light switches didn't work, dresser drawers in bedroom and closet door were broken and the shower gel dispenser fell off the wall. I love Marriott, but this hotel is as though nobody cares. Front desk staff was nice, but this room was so gross. See the attached picture collage. 1) Blood stains on the bed comforter 2) They haven't cleaned the vents...ever! 3) The shelf was falling off the bathroom wall. Easy fix for them - but again, it's as though nobody cares. 4) Moldy shower. Recaulking would take a half hour. Again - nobody seems to care. 5) The rack for soap and shampoo in the shower was riddled with rust. We wouldn't go near it! How is this not noticed or replaced??? There were no other decent rooms available in the area, so we had to stay. When I reached out to Marriott, they didn't seem to care either. They basically said "sorry, here's a few points" that wouldn't be enough to even stay one night in that garbage property. So disappointed... read more

Generally speaking we had a good experience here, with a few hiccups. Spent 6 nights at this place as we hit up Williamsburg for spring break. Got a 2 bedroom suite for the family. The location of the hotel was definitely a big plus. It is situated near lots of restaurants, the nearby outlet as well as a short drive from the interstate as well as downtown colonial Williamsburg. It's also only a 15 min drive from Busch Gardens. The room was pretty clean. The carpets weren't gross, the beds were very comfortable and the showers had great water pressure. Climate controls in the room were working great and the couch was comfortable. The kitchen was also clean as well. The only blips were the fact housekeeping was a bit of a mess. They discontinued service midway during our stay due to 'unforeseen circumstances' (likely related to staffing shortages). The other issue was how breakfast was fairly bad/inconsistent. On our first day we had the expected eggs with some protein (ham/bacon) as well as toast, cereals etc. Then for the next 6 days we got all sorts of processed crap (Jimmy Dean's breakfast sandwiches, packaged bagel sandwiches etc). Some days they didn't have things like white bread toast etc. It was generally a poor experience and the food got really good really fast. Aside from that which I nixed a star for, everything else was fine. The staff was helpful and friendly and I still like the fact all of the above elements (room cleanliness, comfort, bathrooms, beds etc) were all solid. My parents and I stayed in one of the suite here for two nights. While the place appeared to be clean, their staff was good, and they had ample snacks for guests, it is NOT quiet. They allow pets, which is fine, but they mix pet rooms with non-pet rooms, which lead to many barking dogs during our stay; we were woken up multiple times. Additionally, they use a strong air freshener in the halls and it smells like a dryer sheet in the worst way possible. read more

I would give one star however the staff did attempt to rectify the issue. Looks can be deceiving but look a little closer... under the fitted sheets the mattress was stained, debris and hair. Roach hotel This room seemed clean and new at first glance but then we found a roach hanging out in the kitchen garbage disposal. Then found a dead one stuck in the time display on the oven which when opened was definitely not cleaned with crusty burnt black goop on the bottom. After eating and leaving two cups on the counter, coming back to kitchen we found two baby roaches investigating the area. At this point it was time to get out of there and while I was figuring it out, yet another baby roach came out from the dishwasher to investigate. After letting the front desk know what was going on she didn't even act concerned or surprised. No sorry or anything. This is the last time I'll be staying in Williamsburg, VA at the Residence Inn. It had only been 3 hours during the day and we've already found 5 roaches. That's unacceptable to me, and downright disgusting. We were in a two bedroom suite and requested another room on another floor. They didn't have another 2 bedroom suite, but only offered to give us a smaller room at the military rate again. What about offering to add some reward points or something else for my troubles? We did spend 15-20 mins of our time and products to disinfect the high traffic areas in the room. We politely declined and found another Marriott Hotel in the area to stay for the weekend. In this day and time travelers are much more concious of what is acceptable in a hotel room, and cleanliness and bug free are one of them I expect when staying at a Marriott. read more

I always love when I can get into a Residence Inn, and was excited to stay here. But when we got to our room...which was a mile away at least...I noticed window air conditioners. "This place must be old" I think to myself. After we went to bed I thought crickets were hosting a convention in our bedroom. Finally located the noise in a locked closet that was the original air conditioner. I turned the thermostat off, and the window air on. Quiet, but didn't really keep our unit cool enough. It's a warm fall in case you didn't know. While outside we look around, and we're the ONLY unit with window units. How did we get so lucky? Yes, I'm a smart aleck. I mentioned this to the front desk when checking out and they said "I'll report that" and not "I'll give you extra points or a discount." That would have made me happy happy. Also the fire alarm went off at 230 in the morning. Brief but still it brought me right up out of my bed. I called downstairs and it took a while for them to answer but they said it was a malfunction. I only mention this because I see it's happened here before from other reviews. You need to get that fixed. NOW. Other than that, this is a really nice place to stay and they do a bang up job on the free breakfast. If you get the unit with window air, just go back that mile to the front desk and tell them I said to move you to another unit. read more

Don't stay here it's that simple. I'm a traveling nurse and currently in Williamsburg, VA where my company booked my room with this hotel April through the end of June. I was given a room with a shower chair only no regular tub or shower. Upon my first night I made front desk aware when available I'd prefer a regular shower/tub. The staff pointed out this was on me because I ordered a handicap shower chair. Mind you this is not a tub with handicap rails this is simply a chair no tub and a shower head one utilizes as a hose. As a nurse this is understood and I'm grateful for this sort of setup when caring for handicapped patients. However, I'm on my feet all day and would like to soak my legs in a tub. There isn't much room service or cleaning that takes place so upon my asking I was told by front desk lady I'm on the schedule for once per week on Sunday's. Sunday's if my day off of course. There hasn't been towels dropped, off, toilet paper dropped off and the AC didn't work for two nights. I've been very laid back about all because I get life. However, my room key has needed re done by the front desk not only every day but sometimes twice in one day. I was told I could change my room today to get a regular shower instead of the chair. It was made clear for me to return to the hotel to at 2PM to change my room. Upon my returning at 2pm I was told no changing available it may or may not happen tomorrow. Upon my verbalizing my disappointment the general manager came to the desk within seconds advising me that the staff has gone above and beyond for me. This was appalling as I've not asked for anything but towels, room to be cleaned twice per week and toilet paper. Oh and to have a regular shower. The general manager Mr. Willingham verbalized to me that his staff has gone above and beyond by having to change out my room key so often. This was absurd and unbelievable to me. Does Mr. Willingham think I'm choosing to stand in the lobby awaiting for someone to show up and change out my room key? Do not stay here it's the worst place I've ever stayed. The general manager sucks! It's not worth it! When one travels one typically simply wants to relax and not deal with so many small burdens. When one is at home one can shower as they choose, use clean towels and clean their home accordingly this is a big deal here. This morning there was no coffee and when the lady from the kitchen came out and myself and others were standing in a line to get a cup the lady verbalized "Hey don't you all go drinking up all of my coffee." ?? Great location a 7 minute drive from downtown Williamsburg and 20 minutes from Yorktown. The staff was really friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean, comfortable, and specious with a large bed, pull-out couch, and kitchen. They are dog-friendly as well and located right next to a park. The pool is a good size and it is right next to a complex with restaurants and shopping. This is perfect for families or those traveling with dogs. Overall, great value for your money! read more

We are Marriott owners and stay in only Marriott brands when traveling unless there are none in the areas we are staying. I would have given it 5 stars but the first room we were in I went to take a shower and the only thing that came out was HOT water and COLD water nothing in between I called the front desk and they were sending someone to fix it. While eating breakfast they fixed it and I was able to take a shower. Then on Sunday we moved to a different room one that had two bedrooms. On Monday morning I went to take a shower got in the water was fine then about after a min. the water went instantly HOT I screamed my wife asked wha happened I told her I had just got burned by the hot water, I readjusted the water and was washing my hair and the water went HOT again using cold water usually is not pleasant but after that HOT shower the cold felt good it was scorching hot I don't know how they get away with the temperature that comes out of the shower. When we were checking out I told the front desk lady what had happened as we were getting ready to leave a man came in asked us how our stay was and I explained everything to him he told the lady to take the night off our bill. I thanked him and he gave us his business card. Our bill came in and we were charged for the room I tried to contact him twice and got no response back I wrote Marriott but have heard from them yet. read more

Of you have a dog to bring, I really recommend it because is incredibly dog friendly place with even treats for them at the counter. They give you a lot of freebies like good snacks all p.m! BEWARE! I made a reservation in March for a 90 stay as a medical travel professional. I was quoted a rate for the entire stay, received the confirmation for that rate to work at a local hospital. Three weeks in they sent me a 2 line email, they were raising the rates by 40%, feel free to move out in 2 days! Several calls and emails to the sales manager, Marriott, Marriott Bonvoy and so far the answer is, TOUGH! Making a reservation with a guaranteed rate means NOTHING! Shame on Residence Inn, shame on Marriott for treating elite guests this way. The traveling medical community was welcomed when they couldn't fill their rooms during COVID but now that tours are coming through, your money is no good. read more

I love Marriott hotels, especially the Residence Inns because of the spacious room/LR combo. The staff here was VERY friendly from check in - to breakfast - to checkout. The room was clean and nicely decorated. The only thing about my room is on the couch it had a lot of hair stands. Maybe the housekeeper should do a quick vacuum over the couches after each check outs. My hubby had hair all over his sweater. If I wasn't with him & he came home from his work travel with hair on him, it would be TROUBLE!! So to avoid any troubles in happy homes, they should vacuum the couches. Breakfast that consisted of pancakes, sausage, scrabble eggs, oatmeal, Danishes and waffles wasn't good. Some of the items was cold even though there was a burner underneath. It's a hit and miss at these free breakfast. The Only Marriott that I had good breakfast was in DC. The hotel is very convenient to restaurants, shops and the outlet. read more

By far the worst place to stay. The Regional Manager, Connor, is entirely clueless, and you can tell he does not care about his job. The first encounter with him was when he decided to interview us while we were trying to have our breakfast. Right next to us! Do not book it when they have a bus full of high school students who will run up and down the halls in the middle of the Night. They fill the breakfast with no one eating. When I asked Connor, the "regional manager," if he was going to do something with everyone in the breakfast area and he looked at me like I had three heads. I would not stay here again. This property is not aging well. The rooms are in need of renovation and deep cleaning. Our toilet was not working properly and instead of just moving us to a new room, they just kept sending someone with a plunger. We just gave up and starting using the lobby bathroom. Ridiculous. The water in the shower was lukewarm at best and the last morning of our trip was absolutely cold. Nice. When Housekeeping actually came, the service was spotty at best. I know for a fact they didn't clean the toilet (due to the aforementioned issues, it was obvious). The breakfast area is not sized appropriately for the amount of guests the hotel services. Not enough food and very dirty. As others have mentioned, there are a lot of dogs at this hotel. You will hear them barking at all hours of the night and day. No avoiding that. The majority of the staff were friendly. But here's the thing. You can be friendly and still be incompetent and uninterested in your job. Housekeeping only made the beds and didn't replenish toilettes or towels. The sofa was left as is - the pillows all over the place. We had to call the front desk every day to get what we need. The tub has a drainage problem - water drains super slow. I wanted to say something nice but unfortunately can't think of anything. read more

I can't stay at the Marriott because my beautiful Golden Retriever, Skye, weighs more than your 60-pound maximum but is beloved by all who meet him here at the Hilton Garden Inn. What an absurd method you have of vetting a guest! My dog is gracious and kind, admired and welcomed by everyone he passes. (Entire families group around him to take pictures! This morning he met a tiny dog and immediately lay down on the floor so as not to intimidate his new friend.) Oddly, you DO allow a guest to bring two dogs, each weighing 60-lbs. My individual dog, then, weighs less than those two, combined. So you've done me a favor: never visit a Marriott. read more

We've stayed at this hotel several times through the years and this is the first time we were not happy with our stay. The personnel were friendly but the person working the desk did not seem to understand what a walk-in shower is versus a tub. So the first room did not have the walk-in shower so she offered a second room which was the exact same layout. The window was left open, the bathroom needs a deep cleaning and there were ants in the kitchen and bathroom. We were even on the second floor. There were also several lights out in the parking lot. Despite very pleasant staff who tried to make our stay comfortable, the quality of the hotel was sub par. Trash in room from previous guests, stained sofa and carpet, dirty tubs, and water damage and cracked ceilings all a part of the stay. I guess we should have been grateful because a guest who traveled with us said that her fold out sofa was urine soaked. We had read some mixed reviews, but the Residence Inn was the highest rated pet-friendly option we could find in the area. We were pleasantly surprised - the staff was super friendly, our room was very big and clean, and the free breakfast was great. The only thing that felt a little off - and it's hard to put my finger on what made the difference, but I got the feeling while pets are allowed, they're only kind of tolerated as opposed to welcomed. I always felt like I was doing something I wasn't supposed to by some of the looks I got from the housekeeping staff (as opposed to other hotels that have gone out of the way to acknowledge your pet). Gross. Turned down the bed a few minutes after checkin at 11 o'clock at night and it was FULL of what looked like dog hair all along the side of the sheets. Called the front desk and told them and asked for the bed to be made up and they said they'd send sheets up for me to make the bed. NOT what I'd expect for a $200 stay! Seriously? And there was no bedding for the fold out couch, which we needed, so that had to be brought up. And we had 2 adults and 2 children and they were kind enough to only provide 3 sets of towels, but by the time we noticed they had already been up to our room twice so we just shared towels. No idea what the rest of the hotel is like--all I can think about right now is whether the rest of the room is clean or if my daughter is sleeping in someone else's dirty sheets... We stayed here for 31 nights. The room was large and it was relatively clean. We did have ants in the kitchen and bathroom so we had to call the maintenance man several times for extermination. We also had problems with the TV reception. The television picture would become distorted throughput the day. I should point out the maintenance man was friendly and he was very helpful. Likewise, the front desk staff was also friendly and responsive. This hotel is located in the center of Williamsburg and is close to restaurants, a park, and a jogging path. This hotel also serves dinner on Monday and Tuesday nights, and I enjoyed that feature. In addition they have a good breakfast. They also provide other amenities such as a basketball court and swimming pool. So it is obvious the staff makes an excellent effort to provide entertainment for their guests. I do recommend this hotel for anyone playing to stay in Williamsburg. This is also excellent hotel for long-term stays. read more

Strange when I want to steal decorating ideas from a hotel room. But that's how chic I feel like the upgrade at the Residence Inn was. Two walls in the room were painted a bold color, and while I'm no interior designer and can't begin to describe how modern and clean everything was, I can assure you it almost felt like a boutique hotel and not a Marriott chain. Stepping outside of my room, I was slapped back to reality. Tiny hallways. Fighting for space with large unruly pets. No real lobby, in my eyes. And the ceiling was so low. Just stayed here for the weekend with our 3 daughters and puppy! We were in town for a soccer tournament. Had a 1 bedroom (2 queens) suite with large living room (L shaped pull out) and full kitchen. Full hot breakfast is included... Eggs, sausage, French toast, Belgium waffles etc... FREE. Stayed for $99/night - clean, great location on Richmond Rd - staff was amazing! We have stayed here on more than one occasion we are Marriott Platinum Elite customers which obviously does not mean a whole lot anymore. We asked for a room near the door and not wanting a handicap room as we are not handicap bit do travel with a service dog, we were placed in one. It was not comfortable for us and it was filthy. The first time we stayed here we had issues with them not changing the bedding after the last customer as we checked out on a Friday and checked back in on Monday and the mascara that I had gotten on the comforter was still there. And there was others in the room after us because we had to wait for the room to be ready. So not the cleanest! We returned here because that is where my husbands work prefers us to stay. Our room is nasty and getting towels, tissue etc is terrible! Here are a few pics of our room when we walked in the door. If this is a 4 star I really hate to see anything less! If you are going to stay here you may want to inspect your room first! The tv and internet are terrible too! It is in a good location and great place for walking your pet. Ok the fire alarm came on and we just went outside for a good 20 minutes in the cold at 1:41 am. I know this is no fault to the hotel staff but you would at least expect someone out there checking on people and handing out a blanket or two and letting people know what was going on. Then when it was time to go back in, a nice guest in his jammies was telling people it was ok, no one from the staff even came out to inform everyone. While they don't have an indoor pool, they pointed out that we could use the Marriott indoor pool next door. They offered a very good breakfast, and also had an evening light snack offered most days, although not anything special.. The room was very good, nice bed, and clean. This hotel was very well located, near historic Williamsburg, with very easy access to other local businesses and restaurants. It was very clean and well kept. No issues with our room at all.
