We are Marriott rewards members and typically to not have any problems with any of their hotels. However, this specific Residence Inn room had a MUSHROOM growing in between the carpet and baseboard by the door to the bathroom!! It was literally at least 3 inches tall. I don't understand how housekeeping had not seen this and removed it yet. Totally grossed out and appalled! The only plus was the front desk associate removed the $100 pet fee because of the incident. read more

This hotel is okay, pretty typical for a Residence Inn. The neighborhood is not great, but I never thought it was as bad as folks make it out to be (I've stayed in this hotel 5 times, each for five nights). One morning I was standing out by the car waiting for my co-worker to come out. While waiting, I watched the maintenance guy spend at least fifteen minutes hosing off the parking lot (washing away the desert dust, I imagine). After this visit, I got the email asking me to complete a survey, so I did. In the "other comment" section, I shared my belief that a city in the middle of the desert should not waste water by hosing off the parking lot. Get a broom, or even a leaf blower. Much to my surprise, I received an email from the front desk supervisor of the hotel assuring me that "Phoenix has enough water for at least 100 years!" and included a link to a City of Phoenix propaganda website backing that up. It was so ridiculously wrong that I couldn't believe she sent it to me. I didn't bother sending a reply, but I haven't been back since then, and won't go back again. read more

This is not the nicest residence inn I've ever stayed at. It was clean and relatively comfortable, just less than I had been expecting. The mattress slanted down at the head of the bed so that was odd. The pans provided are not non stick. They aren't good quality. Don't make scrambled eggs - too Hard to clean the pan after. Laundry on site was useful but it's $2 per wash and per dry. The gym left a lot to be desired. It's just two treadmills, elliptical, bike and some free weights. Swimming pool area was decent. I was expecting a happy hour of beer and snacks in the lobby like at previous residence inns I've been at. They didn't have that at this hotel except mon-wed. We stayed thurs-mon and there weren't any social gatherings on those days. The area this hotel is In is not good. I would not walk around at nighttime. It was shabby. Saw the police with someone pulled over almost every day of the 5 we spent here. Would choose a nicer area closer to parks or malls next time. read more

As the other reviews have said, this is a pretty decent hotel. When I first saw my room I was very impressed. I don't remember picking this room, but somehow I ended up with the penthouse suite with fireplace. Pretty nice room. The room could comfortably sleep two couples, or a larger family. One bed was located upstairs, and the other was a fold out bed downstairs(there was also a couch bed). However, the longer I was here(3 nights) I noticed more and more things that were odd. First the fold out bed didn't actually fold back in, this was annoying for me because it's right next to the desk, and limits space for the chair and completely blocks access to the bathroom. The bed didn't fold back in because it couldn't..it was just broken. The brackets were completely broken off, and it looks like the hotel did a poor fix on it and replaced parts of the frame with particle board (which has been destroyed as of now). The light switches were either crooked or tighten so much that they were bending in on themselves, not really a big deal, but just odd as it seems like it's that way because of pure laziness. Also, some lights had burned out, and instead of being replaced with a regular bulb it was replaced with a heat lamp bulb.. Other notable points.. -Shelf in bathroom was falling off - Door did not deadbolt properly - TV selection was pretty poor O also, the internet actually isn't bad. Marriott actually offers some of the better internet at hotels, however, the actual access points didn't offer a strong signal. This hotel needs to have their provider come out and do a new site survey, as I was constantly losing access to the wifi no matter where I was at or what device I was on. Basic internet is free and slow(no Netflix/Youtube..etc), but there is a paid option($4.95 per day) that offers speeds around 3-4Mbps pretty much constantly. Still struggles playing Netflix/Youtube, but it's will as least work a bit better. read more

I recently stay at this Residence Inn from Monday 10/29-10/31. I traveled about 80 to 90% of the month therefore I stay in a lot of hotels. Monday night After driving nine hours I hurriedly grabbed all of my suitcases with my computers everything out of my car rush to my room unpacked my bags ..after leaving my room to go to dinner I realize the hallway reeked of dog urine. I notified the hotel staff of this Bernice and Matthew were very nice and offered to switch my room however after driving all day I was in no condition to repack everything and switch rooms. In short having to change a room because the hallway reeks of dog piss to the point, I had to put a towel at the bottom of the door to keep the dog pee smell out, and now my shoes now smell like dog urine in my view is unacceptable . Ultimately that's the reason why I ended up writing this review. This hotel should be a lot more conscious of the gross dog smells even though I understand they allow pets; also shame on those horrible guest to allow their dog to pee inside the hotel and being very inconsiderate of other guests. read more

I have stayed in my fair share of Marriott properties and this has been by far my worst experience. Two issues: 1. When you clean the room, do not forget to check the pullout bed. It was dirty with a dirty clothes from the previous person who stood there. 2. How do you run out of waffle batter an hour into your continental breakfast? If we were standing in line for the other items; eggs, sausage, potatoes, we would have never ate something. The service staff was helpful and attentive though. Location is convenient with multiple eating establishments in the area, is centrally located with easy access to the freeway. read more

I spent the better part of a year in this location and the staff couldn't be nicer to deal with. They have complimentary breakfast daily and then Monday through Wednesday they have dinner available as well with you choice of beer, wine, or soda. The rooms are standard residence Inn rooms and are fantastic for extended duration stay with the kitchen. All rooms come with a pull out sofa bed and there are even two story suite for families. The only downside is the area. I never felt unsafe at the hotel and they employ security guards at night, but this is located in a less affluent part of the city. I wouldn't let that stop you as this location is great if you are here on business or as I routinely saw, teams of kids for various tournaments from all over. It's right off the freeway so you can easily get to places all over the Phoenix area quickly, but their rooms are situated far enough back that you don't hear traffic. My one recommendation if you want a quieter night is to get a room away from the fire pit and pool if you want to get to bed early. They generally shut it down around ten, but if you need to go to sleep earlier, farther from it is better. Just as a comparative aspect four is the highest I would rate a hotel like this as I reserve fives for exceptional hotels such as the Ritz Carlton or similar brands. read more

my grandpa died and so we decided to attend the memorial in phoenix. upon arriving we were greeted by an angry little man who, overall, was mediocre and grouchy. the layout of the hotel is confusing and in each hallway a different unpleasant smell exists. so bad, we thought the building was on fire. my brother fell down a flight of stairs trying to avoid the nauseating scent. mid step he was taken out and twisted his ankle. the rooms themselves are outdated and lack basic amenities like a blanket for the pull out bed. the mattress on the pull bed was flat, lumpy, and stained. it seemed that whenever the ac turned on a decaying smell filled the room. we huddled into the bedroom for refuge. but there were no bugs that we saw. so if you are willing to sacrifice your spine, this hotel is a great fit for you. don't even get me started on the breakfast staff. the manager in the blue shirt was kind but the big one was not. she was not very pleasant and seemed she was on the verge of quitting. the waffle maker was old and singular despite the consistently long line. i am giving it two stars tho bc those waffles were pretty good and they had unlimited whipped cream. read more

I'm pissed because of the way we were treated when calling to discuss three different activities on my bank account from this hotel. The woman who works nights and early mornings was very very rude when we called on two different occasions about it. She kept cutting us off while talking and was condescending in her tone. The multiple account activity through this hotel chain to my bank account was not explained or mentioned at check in. When we arrived at the room it was not clean. There was cereal on the floor upstairs. The rooms are old and do not look how it was represented on the website. On top of that, its also in a sketchy area. Based on the reviews I read, I decided to give this place a try but I should've gotten a hotel near the Peoria Sports Complex or Westgate by the Cardinals Stadium. Im a simple person who is easy going and respectful of others even strangers. In no way did either of us deserve the treatment given by the woman at the front desk. I am so disappointed in the customer service from this woman and will never stay here again or recommend this place to anyone else. Lesson learned.... I should've stuck with La Quinta Inn's suites. I was scheduled to stay at this hotel for a month and one week into my stay I could not stand it and moved to a different hotel. Location is a little bit rough, dinner is only provided 3 nights a week (most residence inns provide 4 nights), THEY DO NOT HAVE HIGH SPEED INTERNET (MISLEADING ADVERTISING), workout facility is lacking proper equipment, I had many problems with my key card accessing doors, and it is quite noisy due to interstate 17 in front of the hotel. read more

I am really surprised that Marriott has not phased out these old style Residence Inns. This hotel is probably one of the original Residence Inns when Marriott started building them back in the late 80's. With that said, the concept still works. It is a hotel room with a kitchen etc... The good of this hotel is that the staff was friendly and the room was clean. That is about where it stops. The hallways were filthy. The TV doesn't even have High Definition and the channels weren't programed right on my TV so I had to scroll through a lot of snow channel's to find what I wanted to watch. My rate was very good so overall I was satisfied. But, if I had been paying rack rate I would have been pretty ticked off. read more

i must admit that i am pretty picky when it comes to hotels. this radisson inn is a pretty good place to stay. it's not stellar, but there are many pluses about it. the pluses are the size of the room, the kitchen in your room with all that you need, they'll go shopping for you and do your dishes, the continental breakfast is more than just danishes and coffee, they have an excercise room and a pool and a spa, it is located right by the freeway so you can just get on and go, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. the girl at the front desk was very professional and pleasant. the price is the biggest plus -- we got a great deal with our AAA discount! the minuses are subjective, but for me they were the location again (it's on this crazy frontage road, so you have to learn how to get to it and navigate yourself from it if you want to go north, since it only runs south and the neighborhood isn't great, but not unsafe), the towels in the room are scratchy and smelly like bleach (although everything is very clean), there are no bathrobes (i love hotel robes!), and the room we had did not have updated appliances (like the refrigerator and stove-top, although they worked fine). i would highly recommend this hotel for families, since it's the right price and size with everything you need away from home. it's not romantic or exceptional otherwise, but very functional. we'll surely stay at residence inns again. and the biggest plus of all -- free wifi! read more

I'm a Marriott Rewards Silver Elite Member and have always enjoyed my stays at any Marriott hotels. That is until I stayed here. This hotel is located in an area of town which is a little sketchy but I figured I'd try it since they offered free breakfast daily and the rates were good. I was unsure what to expect when I arrived since it's tucked back off the main freeway. The carpeting in the room could be upgraded since it looks a bit outdated but the room looked nice especially the kitchenette. I was there for a total of three hours when I was enjoying my time just watching tv when I felt something crawling on my arm, it was an ant. I jumped up from my bed and noticed another ant in the nightstand. When I went to wash my hands I noticed a trail of ants coming from a crack in the bathroom. I immediately called the front office and explained the situation. The girl seemed like I was bothering her. I grabbed my stuff and went to the front office where the two desk clerks were talking to a customer who was checking in. Neither of them tried to excuse themselves from the conversation to assist me and I had to wait until the guy was done chatting. After five minutes one of the girls asked how she could help me. When I explained I was the one who called about the ants in my room, she said oh did you want to switch rooms. I said no and that I was leaving and wanted my money back. The girl explained she would have to have her manager call me tomorrow because she couldn't help me since she was just a front desk clerk. Well today is now day 6 in which this so called manager has not called me. So much for customer service! Don't waste your time or money on this place and head up the road to the Courtyard where they actually appreciate your business! read more

I loved this place. It was very nice inside and the rooms were clean and it had a kitchen! The room was like a little apartment. They had a very nice pool and basketball court. One thing I didn't like was the breakfast. The coffee was really bad and they had dry muffins and average hot food. The basketball court is a little dangerous though. There's a sign that is jagged and if you ran into it you would get hurt. I speak from experience. A member of my family sliced open their leg while playing basketball and hitting the sign. Hopefully they took care of that after what happened.I did like how the hotel was pet friendly and the staff was nice. read more

We love generation one Marriott Residence Inns. This one was just as nice as others we have stayed at. The breakfast was a bit odd today. Which is why it gets only four stars. They served dry turkey sausage. There is a reason that there is never more than one brand of turkey breakfast meats in stores, very few want to eat it. This Marriott also had a dry sausage cut into circles. That sausage looked fat free like the dry turkey sausage. They they had fat free browned scrambled eggs and an entire pan of scrambled egg whites. Serving what some consider a healthier breakfast is not what should happen in a hotel. Especially since the fat free myth has been debunked. This gen one hotel would get five stars from me if the breakfast was better. read more

We live in Phoenix, but needed a place to stay for a few days while our house was being repaired. This was perfect in terms of location, amenities (full kitchen, spacious room, pool, etc), BUT the bed was not comfortable. At our age (undisclosed), comfort of bed trumps everything else. I'd prefer to give the hotel a 2.5, but I don't know that it quite deserves a 3. I stayed here with my family for a couple of night this past weekend. The first thing we noticed was that the hallway had a peculiar odor about it (one of us remarked that it "smells like convention hall donuts" - others thought it smelled like cigarettes). The rooms are clean and comfortable and it's a totally acceptable hotel. My biggest complaint was that the internet access was abhorrent. The front desk reset their routers twice and it didn't seem to make any difference (I'm quite tech savvy - so it's not a case of user error - the speed was just terrible). It made it difficult to use the internet for much of anything and took us 10 minutes just to check in for our flights (a process that should have taken less than 2). The family chose this hotel based on a stay here years ago and a bit of nostalgia about that experience, but we certainly won't be staying here again when there are other hotels for the same price with better amenities. read more

My experience at this hotel was less than one would expect from a Marriott property. The physical property itself was not the issue, it was the front desk registration manager. I had registered for a rate that was meant for family members of employees. My son is a "furloughed " employee of Marriott due to the COVID pandemic. Though the manager was able to verify my son's employment status at check-in by calling his Marriott property, she would not extend the family rate because I didn't have a current form as my son has not been at work since March. My complaint has nothing to do with the difference in the nightly rate as I chose to stay there anyway, it's the principal. Though I did contact Marriott Bonvoy regarding this experience, they were as uncaring and as the registration manager. Marriott is certainly not a company that is concerned with their customers or the benefits they can offer their employees, especially during these difficult times. read more

Our family was more that satisfied at our stay in this wonderful hotel. The customer service is exceptional. The hotel is really nice inside rooms and out, clean and it great condition. There is a playground, pool, basketball court, and fire pit. The breakfast (held daily) is delicious as well as the dinners that are held Monday through Wednesday. I give the meals 5 stars too. Everything tastes gourmet. We were extremely pleased by the "gentlemen" named Winner who deliveres the highest quality of customer service we have ever encountered. He is professional, helpful, friendly, hard working, and he goes above and beyond for the guests. He is a college student and I told him that he will go very far in life with his great personality and hard work ethic. The hotel is extremely lucky to have him as their employee. Lots of care taken with the lawns. Pool is small and very clean. Although it is located by the hwy, I never heard road noise. Full kitchen. I slept on the hideabed and it was sufficient. Last night on the full bed; it was great. The room was clean and tidy; a bit dated. The location is awesome: easy to jump on the hwys to get anywhere we wanted to go. Full breakfast every day; plenty to get the day going. We even had dinner one night. The food is not gourmet; it is adequate. The staff: marvelous. Everything at this hotel was WONDERFUL!! We arrived in Phoenix earlier than check in time. When we called them they had the suites ready for us so we could check in early. The suites were very nice and clean. The kitchens were stocked with everything you need. We stayed for five nights and anytime we needed anything, they were there within a few minutes to accommodate us. The staff at the front desk and the cleaning people were very friendly and did everything possible to make our stay comfortable. The breakfasts were delicious and there was a large variety of food. It is right next to Interstate 17, so the hotel is in a convenient area too. I can't say enough good things about this hotel and the staff. Not even close to Marriott standards. When I first checked in I was pleasantly surprised with the well equipped kitchen and my overall impression of the hotel (ignoring that fact that when they did paint touch ups on the teal colored wall in the room, the 2 colors didn't match which gave it a ghetto looking paint job). The next day was a complete joke. After the first night I decided that I was going to stay until I moved but wasn't sure exactly what day that was going to be yet, I told the front desk this about 11:00am, and that I would call them after funds were transferred to my business account, then I left to go work. I called a little while later because there was a delay of the funds transfer because of the lunch hour and the front desk girl said that was fine. I called back around 2:00pm to tell them I would just come back and give them cash for the difference that wasn't in my work account. I was told I had until 2:15, which I knew was impossible due to my location and I told her that. So I called back at 2:15 to tell them I was en route. She said my time was up and she threatened me with calling the pound to pick up my 2 service dogs that were with me. Excuse me....what did you say???? Those service dogs are to protect my life, I am on my way, have you lost all rational thinking?? She said her manager is very strict and I needed to pack my stuff when I got back, even though I had the cash. What??? Keep in mind, I paid for my first night, check in time for that hotel is 3:00pm and I just decided that morning to stay. Had I took my things when I left, I guess I would have been fine because I would have been considered a new guest. So when I get back the lady walks me over so I can pack up still telling me my money can't be accepted. She said her manager has been burned in the past for being nice. But I am standing here at approximately 2:45 with all the money they need and he won't accept it. Where is the logic in this? Obviously I am not trying to burn anybody and how is this being nice? This man never once showed his face, talked to me, or even said hello. What kind of manager hides behind his staff and asks them to do all his ridiculous dirty work? So I start to pack. I also start looking on my phone internet for a new hotel. Being that it is summer in Phoenix, I am 51, and have 2 dogs, I can't hardly jump in the car and head anywhere without a plan. After 20 minutes, a knock on the door, I am told to hurry. Bite me, whatever. 5 minutes later a call from this same rude woman asking me if she needed to call the police for this. YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. SERIOUSLY. I should have let her call, so somebody else could hear how absurd all of this is. She threatened to charge me for a half day too. It just keeps getting better. Also, the incidentals deposit....when I booked this room I talked with an online chat person asking if a deposit was required. Yes, okay fine. I asked her that if I decided to stay, would my deposit just carry over to the next day and I just pay for the room. She said she would check. After several minutes she came back saying it would just carry over, providing I didn't use it. However, they told me at the front desk when I decided to stay that I had to pay one each day, they would continue to stack up and be refunded to me later. WHAT???? Absurd. If my deposit was carrying over like it should, there was enough money in my account to cover another night stay to begin with. What hotel charges and stacks up deposits daily? I have never heard of such a thing. The surrounding area of this hotel is ghetto, and concerning. My room was in the back near the property work sheds and dumpster. Fine, I can live with that, but while walking my dogs in the grass area, I can see behind that shed and upon looking closer because I didn't understand the garbage on the ground, it was obvious to me that a homeless person had been camping out there at some point. The landscapers must be blind. Whatever. They also claim to have free WiFi..... ignore that because unless you are standing in the lobby, it does not work. Bottom line.....the fact that The Marriott even claims this property literally amazes me. At first view, it seems great, but beyond that, it is sorely lacking. And that manager needs to quit hiding in the back and brush up on his personal skills. I wouldn't stay there again if they invited me and I would not recommend it to anybody. I am disputing all charges with my bank because in my opinion, they deserve nothing from me. Nothing except this spot on review. PSA: DO NOT STAY at the Residence Inn Marriott off of the I-17 freeway in Phoenix, AZ!! It's not worth it! They are rude, unprofessional, and lie so they don't have to refund money back!! The supervisor/ lead manager NICK VALENSUELA didn't take the time to hear any of the customers' concerns. He didn't show any empathy or sincerity. They have horrific customer service from staff and management. The manager will hang up on you if he gets caught in a lie or doesn't want to answer questions that would cause a full refund. He also has a lying staff. KATHY PETERS was very snotty and came across as being prejudice. She was the night manager we dealt with. She was combative on the phone and was confident that nothing would be done to her despite her attitude and demeanor. She cut me off on every sentence and got loud on the phone for no reason. They did not give a warning call to say keep it down or that were too loud. We don't have a volume meter in the room to gauge. She came up with all excuses and then threatened to call the police. There was no loud music at ALL! We were just laughing and eating. They already knew a surprise party was happening when we paid for the room. First it was noise, then there were too many people per security guard SERGIO (less than 20) mind you on a 2 bedroom suite and there are no parties. I advice they were notified about the party when we paid. She then says well it is after midnight. So I then ask was there a curfew listed on agreement. She says it doesnt mstter, we have to go. Then it turns out to be some other excuse when we are cleaning up and leaving. The Residence Inn Marriott off the I-17 is a disgrace! Don't waste your money here at all! When you are the customer and want to file a complaint due to treatment, they hang up on you! I tried to call back and the lady said the manger hung uo because of harrassment. That would mean I would have to call back several times or threatening. I called one time and asked for the proof of the so called "trashed room". Instead he wants to say go to corporate anf hung up. Where is that found in the customer service etiquette handbook? They lied and said the room was trashed even though we cleaned it thoroughly before we were rudely kicked out so we could get our money back! We were not even there 2 hours before this untrained worker KATHY PETERS called and threatened us as if we were hostile!! I'm tired of people trying to label me as aggressive just because I am BLACK and upset. I am a customer just like anyone else and I deserve to be treated as such!! Because I want a refund for not even staying there a full night, JULIE (current day manager) is threatening to call police because we are asking for "so-called photos" of the room once we were forced to vacate. They know they have shady business and don't want to confess to it. We had a laptop stolen out of this hotel and the management has confirmed that the only person who entered our room while we were gone was the maid. They have not taken any responsibility for this theft, and have in fact lied to us about previous thefts. They do not have cameras in hallways and maids regularly leave doors wide open while cleaning rooms. They gave us one night "free" (worth about $127) which is nothing compared to a brand new lap top worth over $1,000. After searching for a meeting room big enough to host a baby shower and was available on a Sunday afternoon (most hotels in this area were booked every Sunday for church!) we found this place. A week or two before the shower we received an email telling us the original sales person we were dealing with no longer worked there and was then given someone else that would be handling everything. When we emailed this new person it took her forever to respond. So with a week before the shower I go to the hotel to just double check that everything was still ok and that our event was still scheduled. Upon arriving the front desk staff grabbed the General Assistant Manager, I did not catch his name, all I caught was him being very annoyed that I was there checking on everything. I explained that the person setting everything up was concerned that we hadn't heard from the new person and the event was in 6 days. He assured me that whatever was booked before the lady left was still on the schedule and there were no worries. I said great thank you and asked to see the room to get an idea of how we were gonna set up and to see the size of it. Again he was annoyed that I was there asking. The day of the event we show up a little early to start setting up and go to check in to the meeting room and the staff was not aware at all that we were coming! She pulled the event book out and our sheet was not in there even though I had been reassured that we were still scheduled just 6 days before! I was very upset and very disappointed that after I was reassured, by the annoyed assistant manager, that we were still scheduled, we show up and nothing is set up or even expected! The staff that was working that afternoon were however very helpful and wonderful in quickly getting the room set up and running for us!! And that is the only good thing I can say about this hotel. The staff was amazing at helping us get set up and also if we needed anything else they got right on top of our request and took care of it! Very disappointed in management especially with how he acted when I came to check on our reservation and then lied about it being still on the books! I have worked in hospitality before and this is completely unacceptable behavior for customer service!! read more

Poor Service by staff at Front Desk at both night and morning. Avoid whenever possible.

If i could i would give 0 stars. There were cockroaches in the room. The place is over run by children. In the evening an employee brings her children to the pool and as she straightens the chairs she yells at her kids in the pool all 3 nights. The food is bland all of the meat is boiled even the sausage food does not look like photo in review below. Twice they served this bean gravy much much and boiled Canadian bacon and boiled sausage patty. The chairs in the bbq area are covered in bird poop. The first night there was a family reunion in the room above stomping until 1030. read more
