Poor customer service. Bought a relatively cheap felt hat for $175. Or at least they act like $175 is super cheap. The hat was white and it arrived with a stain on the top and the white was as if it had been sprayed painted and I couldn't touch it without the white getting all over everything. Some transfer has been known to happen but this way crazy. The day it was received I sent a picture clearly showing the larger stained in the tip where the hat was discolored. Almost like a clear oil stain. Their response was literally well there is nothing we can do. Not hey we are sorry we can help get you a replacement. Not hey don't worry you can return the hat for zero shipping and we can t get a new hat ordered. Nope. For the price you can literally buy a hat if this quality online for 1/4 or less of price. Given their attitude, lack of service and poor price to quality I ended up just buying a hat with a competitor and I couldn't be happier. read more

Not a hat person but been wanting a good western hat for some times. Staffs were friendly -- answering my noob questions, took time helping me found the right fit (i am one of those in-between sized so put on at least a dozen just to find one fits comfortably), trying out different styles and custom-fited my 1st ever cowboy hat. Even my son (the fashion critic in my family) complimented the look and quality, and plans to visit the store to find something for himself. I had a budget in mind but the hat was less than i anticipated for the quality am looking for. Totally will go back again for my next cowboy hat and recommend to others. read more

I was in need of a great quality hat, I've always purchased those one/size fedoras etc. But they never quite fit me correctly. I was in Texas during Christmas and I desperately wanted a ten-gallon hat, so we went to the Resistol Factory Outlet Store in Garland. Not only does Resistol make thousands of cowboy hats, they also have boots and rodeo wear. If you don't like cowboy hats, they have thousands of every other type of hat you could ever possibly imagine, all made Texas! How cool is that? After much decision making, I bought two very nice cowboy hats on sale for $20 each! I have a black "4x Sierra" and a black with pink trim "Midnight". They are beautiful. The hats come with a giant Resistol hatbox that depicts graphic rodeo scenes. Resistol also has a large collection of exquisite cowboy boots ranging from $400 to $1,200. You may ask yourself, who would spend $1,200 on cowboy boots? If you saw these boots in person, you would understand. They are just gorgeous and magical. The ladies in at the front counter were unable/unwilling to help me because they were busy gossiping about someone who just got married. Or maybe she just went to rehab. Come to think of it, I think she got married and then went to rehab. The main lady was talking on the phone and with her coworker, so it was difficult to follow, even after 10 minutes of standing at the counter. Anyway, there is no one there to help you, especially if you are obviously a Yankee and believe me, they can tell a mile off. If you happen to be one of the many actual cowboy people that frequent Resistol, it is doubtful they will help you but they may actually acknowledge your presence, especially if you are anglo. However, there were very nice men in the back that steam cleaned my hats. So two less stars for crappy retail service but adding one star for the hat cleaner men. Resistol has been making hats in Texas since 1927 and has been in Garland since 1938.They are the inventors of the "Kitten Finish" hat making process. Only bad thing is there's so much to choose. I went in looking for 1 hat, walked out with 2 and had to stop myself from getting more. Staff is super helpful and they'll shape/ reshape and clean your hats for a tiny fee. My challenge is not going back for more. Everything from wool to 100x beaver at superb prices. read more

Memories of riding up here on my Schwinn Stingray wam my thoughts after the drive through Garland. The outlet as well as the sprawling factory out back show no signs of change in the last 50 years. Entering the front door, I notice the inside hasn't changed either. Cowboy hats in the back, behind fedoras and accessories on the left and right respectively. The amazing selection is sure to have what you're looking for in both style and size, and if not they have plenty in the back they can bring out. Some of the hats are straight off the production floor, and some are unsold ship-backs from their retailer network. You can tell the difference, by noting the stamp on the inner band, like "Fred's House of Hats" or "Roscoe's Western Shop" on the ship-backs. In my opinion the ship-backs are often higher quality as the factory seconds are more likely to go straight to the outlet. Fedoras seem to always be 30% off one and 50% off two. Cowboy straws and felts are two for one on very rare occasions that don't seem to coincide with seasonal shifts. Regardless, you will not find better deals. Service is unmatched. Whether stretching, shaping, stiffening, or cleaning, they do it at the time of purchase for free. A small fee occurs after that, however I've gotten free service on older hats by arriving when they're not busy. As well as the Resistol brand, they also own Stetson and Dobbs. I read the responses to my negative review and they are all from cousins and people who work there or I am the only one who ever had a problem with some cocky guy from the factory, who told me the problem I reported was my fault and he never even saw it. Go figure. read more

They certainly carry a lot of hats. Straw, felt, wool and beaver, to name a few. While the prices are less than at a store like Cavender's Boot City, the hats are not displayed as nicely. For price comparison, a George Strait Resistol straw hat retails for $84. At the outlet, it's $69. However, Cavender's recently had a sale -25% off of palm and straw hats (bringing it down to $63), thus making it less expensive to buy the hats at the retail store. If you're looking for a cheap work hat or something to knock around, then you should be able to find it here (I saw some George Strait Resistol straw hats that were discolored because they stacked other hats on top and the leather band stained the hat - these were going for $35). They have some Resistol sun hat styles that I have never seen at a regular store. I bought a cute Stetson straw crushable hat for $12.99. The store is arranged by hat type, material and size, but it's still a lot to go through - be prepared to spend close to an hour sifting through stacks of hats. My personal feeling is that if a hat is over $60, I'd rather buy it at the retail store where I am confident I can return it if it is defective. read more

Visited the Resistol Outlet store while visiting from California. All the associates were kind from start to finish. Bought a nice straw hat and they formed the brim and crown to my liking, Bullrider crease. I wish I had time to stay longer! read more
