The crew worked sun up to sun down (this was a new construction home on an acre lot, total landscaping needed), but always left the site clean once they left for they day, including blowing the dust out of the street and driveways. Thankfully I got a second opinion and found Greg. He advised the issue was with our main water pressure valve, not our sprinkler system. He said a plumber can fix it. Once the plumber replaced the valve, our system worked fine! Except for one head that Greg came back and fixed for us at a great price. It is refreshing to know they are still honest people out there. Greg is the real deal!

Our sprinkler box went out and Greg came to the house to verify and identify what unit we'd need to order/replace it - giving us a price of $250. He also said that we'd need a new outlet and had a guy who could install it. When Greg returned with the box, he didn't account for the number of zones correctly resulting in a final price of $450. The electrician he referred charged $125 to install the new outlet. 1 week later, the system went down. I was able to confirm that it wasn't the box that was the issue, the outlet didn't work. We also had 1 sprinkler head that was broken. Greg came back out to check the system and fix the 1 sprinkler head. He identified a 2nd head that needed to be fixed. He wanted to charge me $250! He ended up charging me $200 after I expressed concerns that this is the second time he's charged me a lot more than he said it would be. The electrician admitted to installing it incorrectly and corrected it AND charged me an additional $60. Also, I don't think I should have paid because I paid him $125 to install it and he did it wrong. In the end I paid $185 to install an outlet. I sent Greg and the electrician a text message on Wednesday after they left expressing all these concerns and neither of them responded. I said that supporting local businesses was important to me and that I wanted to be able to refer them but didn't feel that they were honest with me.... still they didn't respond. All in all, I ended up paying a lot more money than what they quoted and what I would have paid if I went with a more well known business. Disappointing.

He mapped the utility lines, put together a detailed site map, watering schedule, and came out and installed a four zone sprinkler system over the course of a couple days, leaving behind little if any mess. My system was smaller, so he worked with me to install a spigot-based battery-powered system rather than a full-on wired system that would have had to connect to my main water line and been much more expensive. I contacted Matt Clayman about revamping my front and back yard. We had some irrigation problems…read morelast year and coupled with last year's drought we had lost most of our front and back lawn. Matt put together an outstanding plan to minimize the grass in the front, construct magnificent stone masonry garden beds in the front populated with lovely greenery and native plants. He also got rid of the home made stone path in our side yard to our fence door and put in a spectacular walking path surrounded by a wide bed of river rock. In the back yard, his team constructed another masonry garden bed which was perfectly level with our back porch and even has very wide stepping stones built in. In addition to all of this the Clayman Outdoors team re-sodded our complete front yard and the most negatively effected areas in our back yard. This was installed only after tweaking our irrigation system so that we wouldn't have further issues going forward. The crown jewel of the project has to be the driveway extension. It exceeded our greatest expectations. The driveway now has a good 3 foot extension on masoned stone. This extends from the cul-de-sac to our front door. It really serves both a practical as well as an esthetic function. Before our two cars were somewhat cramped in the driveway and we would have to walk in the grass to enter the home or bring in groceries. That is no longer the case! The cherry on top of this whole project was the installation of accent lighting. Our entire front yard is now lit with charming bed and path lights. We also have uplifting on our two trees in the front yard as well as the house. My wife constantly says she feels like we are coming home to a resort. If you go to craigslist you'll find numerous bobcat/skidsteer services available. They charge from $425 to $550 per day. For road base the cost varies based on driving distance. In my case the cost is about $25/ton. It's about 1.5 tons per yard of material. For these services you'll have to be very specific and supervise the work. But, in the end it is a time based service and you get what you pay for. For my job I agreed to pay Mitch significantly more than the above amounts, easily 2x the labor costs. Why would I do that? Well, I did not want to manage the job. I was looking for someone that knew what they were doing that I could trust to do the work right. I wanted the work done once. I did not want to be in a position of having to call someone else out in the near future to rework the work. Based on the reviews and his other business that does retaining walls I figured it was a safe bet to go with Mitch. I had two parts to my agreement with Mitch. Individually, these were well compensated. After the first part I pointed out deficiencies to Mitch as he asked for the first payment. He assured me he would be back out to get these remedied. After that meeting he said some things that made me suspect of the second part of the work not being done right. I asked for either assurance (guarantee) or slight delay (wait for rain to ensure placement accurate). Mitch's reaction was insightful of his true character, he became argumentative about outstanding work and refused to own his future work. He was being completely inflexible. He agreed to meet to review and discuss. That agreement only lasted until his first check cleared. Then he turned into a ghost. No text message replies and calls blocked straight to voice mail. In the end I'm lucky. I only ended up overpaying for half the job which he never finished completely. If I had allowed him to work, as he insisted, on the second part of the job that part would have ended up a complete waste of money as it is obvious his planned solution was wrong and I would have had to have the work completely redone.

It took over a month and three more phone calls to finally make it happen. The reason for my call was a concern for a few sprinkler heads that looked damaged and did not perform well. I received an invoice with a completely different pricing from what that lady explained prior to the visit. Worst part however was not an invoice but the fact that I still saw the same heads misbehaving the way they did before the visit, and on top of it my controller was all messed up. So I called and asked what does "replace 1 valve" means if the system did not work any different and what am I to do with my controller. The answer I received is something out of the Guinness book of record. "You controller was probably shortened by a lightning, and if you question your bill you are not a good fit for us, I will take $45 , pay it and please call someone else". Taken a back I kept my calm and asked about that lightning "What lightning? I cam home about 45 min after your tech left and there was no rain?" The response was about the same "It happens and lightning hit controllers (mine is inside the garage), but you must give my money". At this point feeling like a complete idiot I politely told the lady that I do not need $45 off, I am perfectly capable of paying my bills but I would like to know what am I paying for and what am I to do with my controller, so may I speak to a technician who did the job. Rather abrupt 'no" was all I got followed by another request to pay. I finally felt like someone who is taken for a ride, so I said that I will not be paying until I speak to a tech. "OK" and beep-beep-beep. Damn, I can understand that during summer peak sprinkler companies can get a bit difficult but this was a completely another level. So - stay away guys.
