He returned our calls right away, has showed up reliably for a few months, and always gets a good job done quickly. This seems like a bare minimum but it's been hard to find in this town. A few months ago I called Black & Gold Lawn Service to have him take a look at my lawn because I had some weird weeds popping up and I had no idea what to do. The owner said that he would send his guys out to take a look and give me an estimate. Instead of actually treating or providing me with an estimate for weed removal, his crew ended up mowing my lawn which is not what I had asked for. Several weeks later I get a knock on my door on a Sunday morning. The owner was coming by to collect his $30 to mow my lawn. He had "lost my phone number." A) I never asked to have my lawn mowed. B) I live on a .13 acre lot with most of it xeriscaped, so probably about .03-.04 acres of grass. $30 seems pretty high considering the size of the lot. read more

These guys are awesome!! I called them yesterday to do a last minute job at the house I'm moving out of. They returned my call immediately and said they could do it first thing in the morning. They were on time! Actually 15 mins early. He gave me a quote that was way less than I expected and also agreed to take a bunch of junk to the dump for me. I figured this would add a lot to bill but he only charged me the dump fee! The dude was honest and straight forward. He looked at me like a fool when I said I didnt want the leaves cleared out but didn't say anything rude. I could tell he really wanted to clear those leaves out and he seemed relieved when I agreed with him to just get the whole job done! I love that he cared and he even seemed excited when he was done. He asked me to give him a call once I saw it and let him know what I thought. I wish I would've known about these dudes for the past year that I was living there! read more

Well, hats of to John and his crew. Just like the other reviews said. Quick, courteous. John asked me two or three times to check things out during the big cleanup job (we had a lot of deferred lawn work), then followed up on my requests. Did a nice job being careful around our special plantings, many of which were sort of lost among the weeds. We only had a little bit of damage in that department - not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. Did I mention excellent price? Excellent price. Didn't try to do a hard sell on regular maintenance either. I proposed a biweekly schedule and he said probably just once a month would do the trick. read more

Started out great but ended swiftly and abruptly, due to miscommunication! Had them scheduled to come out for lawn care and left the money in a designated place as always and waitress most of the day for them to show up! They never came. My wife and I happened to be off that day and pulled the money from the place where we always leave it because it was late and I had to leave. And btw it's 2017 and they only do cash and checks! I offered for him to create at least a PayPal or setup a account to where I could use surepay or Zelle or some type of free money transfer through banks, but just refuse to get with the times! Texted him the next day and he calls me and goes on a rant how the money wasn't there when they came last Thursday and didn't cut the yard but I told them to come the following Thursday and before I could even try find clarity to the situation he just cut me off and proceeded to complain how he has to drive to pflugerville (but claims to serve the austin area) and he lives in Georgetown! (I know because he wanted money sent via mail and gave me his address) He then proceeded to fire himself and showed how much he doesn't care if he has customers or not! Was going to recommend him to other friends and fam but he's a jerk! And he just randomly shows up to the yard to cut even after it's been discussed when he's supposed to come! It all boils down to how he just blew a gasket for no reason and fired himself! Don't recommend this guy or his company to anyone! They cut moderately good but the customer service, ingenuity, and communication are not his strong suit! He'll leave you high and dry like he did us because he doesn't want to figure out problems when they occur! But not to worry there are a lot of other great companies out there that do make it easy for you to pay them and communicate well so there aren't any mix ups! Don't even deserve 1 star!!! read more

John Truitt and his team are great and I highly recommend them. They do professional work, quickly and at a great price. What is great about Black & Gold Lawn Service is that they can do any type of lawn work needed. We had two horrendously overgrown flowerbeds (more accurately "weedbeds") and overgrown bushes and trees. John and his team showed up, cleaned it all up, mulched the area and our yard looks completely transformed. John and his crew are wonderful!! We have used John and his service a few times now and we are ALWAYS happy with the result. We have a small yard so we only call john when a service is needed rather than a weekly service, which is perfect for us. The prices are extremely reasonable and we will use John and crew again. The only issue we have had is one of his crew mistakenly kinked our AC electrical with the edger which had to be fixed, but John quickly made it right! Also they don't accept online payment or credit cards which would really push this review to 5 stars. read more

I was leaving town, and needed a bit of tree work and the basic lawn service. These guys came promptly and did a great job. I give one star because I never like a company with a moving price tag. They amended the first quote after the tree trim, then called me a few days after the lawn service claiming the quote was only for the tree work. Very inconsiderate Black & Gold Lawn service employee gassing up at a Walmart in Manor. Many people waiting in line and he could've done 2 things; pulled up just a little more so another car could gas at the pump behind him or he could have paid attention to when the pump shut off instead of spending his time chatting with the gas man filling the large tanks. Made 1st appointment for landscaping service with John for Wednesday (today) at 8:00 am. 8:00 am came and went. So did 8:15, then 8:30, then 9:00, etc. John and Black & Gold were a total no show. Texted John at 9:30 to compliment him on his respect for someone's time and his keen business sense in failing to keep a FIRST appointment with what would have been a very loyal and reliable brand new client. Also mentioned that I would be following up on Yelp with a review to let others know of their no-show, no-call, lack of respect for someone's time. Boy, oh boy...the minute I texted that I planned to leave a negative Yelp review, did the phone start to ring! Sorry John....too bad, too sad. You see, there's this thing out there that I know you haven't heard of....it's called a calendar and business owners that actually want PAYING, good clients use them to show up when they are supposed to. So let it be a lesson....this is AUSTIN, not the swampy, backwoods of Louisiana where it must be acceptable to run a business and not show up for appointments, and then not even call to let someone know you can't make it. In this city, people are professionals and expect business owners to act professionally and call when they are unable to make a set appointment out of respect for a client's time, i.e., so their client's won't be late for work, due to waiting on a loser who no showed/no called on a FIRST introductory appointment with a client! After struggling with other services, I gave these guys a try, and I am very happy with them. The most important thing to me is that they return phone calls and show up to mow when they say they will. There are cheaper services out there (see my other lawn service review), but because of their reliability and the fact that they don't seem to mind me waiting a couple months between mows, the extra $5-$10 is worth it. As for the mowing itself, they do a great job. With a pretty big crew, they get the job done very quickly, leaving behind a nice, clean lawn. read more
