Went with a friend to eat and catch up the burger I got was good but not great in comparison to some of the others I've had else were. My friends was about the same. I would have left a higher rating if it weren't for the fact that my waitress was rude and acted as if we were annoying her just by existing. I am a waitress as well and I know even if I don't want to wait on a table for what ever the reason they never know because I don't let it show. I would say one of the best burgers I've ever had. For dessert we had the carrot cake cupcake,I would definitely recommend it if you like carrot cake. Skip this place, try Five Guys or even Jakes in Delaware for better burgers at more reasonable prices: My family and I have now dined twice at Restaurant 55 since its opening late last year (2010), and both times I have been sorely disappointed. The first time I ordered the so-called "Black and Bleu" burger, which you would think would be exactly what it sounds like, a cajun-spiced blackened burger. Well, it isn't. I could barely detect the flavor of the minimal spices used in its preparation, and the burger itself was NOT blackened, it was grilled just like all of the other burgers our family ordered. The chef either has no idea what blackening is, or has been instructed not to prepare this dish in the correct way, presumably to avoid challenging the largely elderly clientele ported over from the owner's other restaurant, Cool Springs, by exposing them to too much heat. The ground beef used in the burgers is obviously and undeniably fresh, as advertised, but that's simply not going far enough. What's worse, the burger came with a nominal amount of bleu cheese (to say it was a "sprinkling" wouldn't be exaggeration), and NOTHING ELSE. No lettuce, no tomato, no nothin'. The bun was okay. A plain, bland burger with a chincy helping of mediocre cheese with a moderate helping of decent but not exceptional fries--I make better fries at home, and those at FIve Guys blow these away. Second visit a couple months later (last night), I ordered the same dish, the "Black and Bleu" burger; I'm nothing if not a glutton for punishment, and since could really go for a decent blackened burger I figured I'd give them a second chance at my business... This time I noticed on the menu that you can "build you own" burger, but since there is NO LIST OF THINGS YOU CAN BUILD IT FROM, I was forced to scan the rest of the named burger options to determine what ingredients were available to me... So this time I ordered the blackened bleu cheese burger with grilled onion, lettuce and tomato. I would have liked jalapenos, also, but since these aren't on another menu item I don't bother to ask. So what happens? Of course the burger is not blackened...again. In addition, I received mushrooms on the burger instead of onion. When I brought this to the attention of the waitress, she apologized but then asks me if I mind eating it anyway! I ALMOST NEVER send things back when I dine out, but if I bother to complain, it means I want it fixed, darn it. Don't ask me a question like that! I also bring to her attention at this point that the burger isn't blackened. So, she brings me another burger, this time with the correct toppings/extras. Is it blackened? No, of course not. At least this time (both on the 1st and 2nd burgers) there was an adequate amount of cheese. The drinks... First time I didn't order anything, but second time I decided to try their vaunted beer menu (they do have an impressive array of local brews on tap), and go for the Dogfish Head "Poppaskull", a Belgian. It came ICE COLD, certainly less than 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Anyone who knows anything about ale will tell you that you don't serve it anywhere close to that cold. So, another area where Restaurant 55's reach exceeds its grasp. I waited for it to warm up, at which point it was fine. The Kids - There's a children's menu, but it's not printed. We had to ask what was available. One child ordered the three sliders, and said they were basically tasteless (no seasoning whatsoever). Other child ordered chicken fingers and just ate the fries because there was no hot dog option (he's a confirmed hot dog man, despite my reservations on that score :). REALLY? No hot dog on the kid's menu we're not allowed to peruse visually, at a burger place? Please. The Wife - Fish taco the first time, said it was okay. She's not too critical, but if she thought it was great or even above average she would have raved. Second time ordered the avocado burger, and received basically the same burger I did with a paper-thin slice of avocado. Service - 3/5 - Attentive if somewhat inept service, from waitstaff clearly inexperienced in the type of dining experience Restaurant 55 purports to offer. Never asked if we wanted more drinks, an order bungled, inappropriate request (eat it anyway!), and a bit too talkative for my taste. Price/Menu - 1/5 - If I can build my own burger, for goodness sake tell me what ingredients are available! No printed children's menu. Could get better food for much less elsewhere. Atmosphere - 4/5 - Nice place with a cozy atmosphere, but nothing to write home about. Food - 2/5 - At a "gourmet" burger joint, I expect the food to be what it claims to be. Don't call something blackened if it isn't, and don't be so frugal with the toppings. A burger featuring avocado or bleu cheese should have a big honking slab of it. Fries just okay. Very disappointing. A nice selection of burgers and such and that is where it ends. Our order came within 10 minutes, and while our waiter told us to be careful because everything was very hot, it was not. The 7oz 55 burger was overcooked (it was ordered medium and came well done), was dry and actually crumbled when you bit into it. One slice of cheese topped it and for 50 cents extra, just would of thought it would get you more. The grilled salmon burger was anything but grilled but nicely done. It was not hot by any means, warm at best. It seemed only seasoned with the wasabi mayo that was lined on top of the salmon and with a giant amount of lettuce and some tomatoes. I asked for BBQ sauce to add some taste. The fries are handcut and overly brown...and have a residual flavor of burnt. They weren't burnt, but they tasted like they were and for some time after we left. I needed something to get the taste out, but the only dessert offerning is a selection of cupcakes and to be honest, they didn't look like they were anything to write home about or enough to pay anything over 50cents a piece for. We spent about 40 minutes in there total and left very dissatisfied. My dinner companion stated she could've gotten a better tasting burger at Friendly's or McDonalds. Shame....the whole Dover/Magnolia area needs more original restaurants instead of all the chains. Sadly, I don't think I will visiting this place again. read more

Best Burgers I have had anywhere taste wise. The burger was seasoned great and the sweet potato fries were also very good. The only thing was the wait time to get the food I felt was a little long that's why I didn't give it 5 stars. This restaurant has some really great things going for them. The beer selection is phenomenal. I chose to take the Bartender's Flight, where the bartender gave me five glasses of his choice of brews(I believe the glasses were about one-third pint in size). This is a great way to try some new beers while you're at dinner. I had the crab burger, which was great in taste. It certainly was a crab burger. Where some places might choose to make such a burger mostly filler and less crab, this appeared to be almost entirely crab with very little filler if any. I was very pleased with this burger. While I didn't have a regular burger at this restaurant, I plan to on my next visit when I return to Delaware. The fries that came with the burger were great, obviously freshly made, and plentiful. One of my party got some bbq sauce on the side, that we used to dip our fries in that night. The bbq sauce appeared to be a house specialty, and was made with root beer if memory serves me correctly. I wasn't particularly impressed with it myself, it was very sweet and didn't linger on the tongue for more than a second. It was as if it wasn't even there. The ketchup had more flavor, which was rather disappointing. But the food was overall very good. The only real complaint that I had was that the service was a bit slow. The waitress didn't really seem to pay close attention to our table, and didn't give us any sort of status update on our food. But overall, this was a great restaurant, and whenever I'm back in Delaware I plan to go by again. read more

I went to Restaurant 55 at my father's request because it is new in his area. I'd read multiple bad reviews beforehand and was leery, but I was pleasantly surprised. The men liked the beer selection, the service was fast, and the burgers were tasty. One had the Not-For-Breakfast burger with ground sage pork in the burger and it was delicious! Another had the Black and Bleu burger which got terrible reviews online, but he liked it beacuse it had just enough kick without being overly spicy. I had the Turkey Cobb burger with gorgonzola and avocado, but they allowed me to substitute beef with no problem. Our burgers were each cooked to perfection at the temperature we ordered them (medium rare) and the fries were obviously hand-cut from real potatoes and fresh with the exception that they got soggy from the burger grease that had dripped on the plate. All in all, they were gourmet style burgers with good flavor and at an expected price. For 3 entrees, 4 beers and 1 mixed drink the bill came to $50 which isn't bad in my opinion. I would definitely go back to try the turkey, salmon, tuna, crab, or other entrees in addition to the other burgers on the menu that caught my eye. As a Wilmington foodie, this is a place I would happily drive an hour to visit again! read more

Lets see where do I start. To the owner you have the possibility of being a decent place with good burgers, but your management needs to not worry about who he is going to go home with from the bar and run the restaurant. When we arrived we were informed of 15 to 20 min wait, which is ok. But then we stood there and stared at a empty table for 2 for 10 mins, after we had already stood there for 20 mins. So we ask the hostess what was wrong with that table she said they were saving it for a party of 4.Well there was no way you could have moved this table anywhere without making another table get up and move out of the way for them to move the table to fit 4 people. Then we finally get seated at this empty table, and the waitress comes and gets our drink orders and we got our drinks and then 15 min later another waitress went to find our waitress to take our orders. We got our appetizer which was not even warm, a few mins later then we got our meals after another waitress went to the kitchen to find our orders, then our waitress snatched the tray out of her hands when she was about to give us our meals.
