I love this place! This is my favorite restaurant in all of Delaware. My boyfriend and I eat here at least once a month because the food is so amazing here. The service is always excellent no matter who our waiter or waitress is because they're always very attentive and are always checking to see if we need anything. The ambiance is also always very nice here and if you're looking for a quiet place to eat I highly recommend eating here because you will not be disappointed. My favorite things on the menu are the fried chicken and the turkey bacon wrap. The fried chicken is definitely the best I've ever eaten! If you're looking for great Coleslaw then you should definitely try the one they have here because it's really great too. I don't know what others do, but when I want something specific, I try to find any "hole in the wall" restaurant that might sell decent food; a diner. I have been looking forward to a breakfast sandwich, but have yet to get one. So today, I was perusing the internet and came across this place. It has 3.5 stars, which I knew meant it wasn't great, but after a moment I decided to bite the bullet, and try this plave. The foo I ordered was corned beef hash, breakfast sandwich, and hot cocoa. The food that I got was old and cold. The corned beef was almost burnt to a crisp, the sandwich was disassembled and everything was cold and nasty, their hash browns / country potatoes, are like semi-chunky mashed potatoes, but they are dry and nasty. When I got the food it a cold, and now the food is cold and tasted bad. I was truly upset about this meal, especially since I was looking for a diner. If anyone has any recommendations for diners that deliver to Magnolia, DE that would be nice to know. My family are in Delaware visiting my Aunt. I've eaten here in the past and the food has always been very good. But tonight we stopped in for dinner. Worst decision. I had spaghetti, my garlic bread was burnt almost couldn't eat it. The hamburger in the sauce was mushy, I didn't get the salad that was supposed to come with it. My daughter got chicken fingers. They were so hard that she had to rip them apart and pull the chicken out to eat it. The waitress never came back to check on us, and was not that friendly. She never asked if we needed refills, but could clearly see our drinks were getting very low. Very disappointed in the food, and the service. And what made it worse, the owner was the one doing the cooking!!!! Will never come back to this place again read more

This morning I took my brother to breakfast here and was introduced to a friendly, clean atmosphere with exuberant waitresses. We ordered coffee which was a robust, good tasting brew. Service was fast, food prompt as well as delicious with my brother ordering a sausage gravy special and I the Eggs Benedict which came with a healthy, thick slice of Canadian bacon and golden brown homefries. I recommend this place highly. When you can leave a restaurant, breathe in some crisp, cool air and say "wow, what a nice meal " chances are that a return visit will be in order! read more

I think I got about twice as many eggs as I should have. They were done, not runny, but not brown at all. The scrapple was done perfectly but hot as lava...be careful. The Magnolia is apparently the only place to eat when visiting Magnolia, DE, but that isn't so bad. I echo the comments of Alex Z that the food here is very good. Granted, I have only eaten here for breakfast so I've never tried any of their offerings other than the breakfast fare, but in that department I've had everything from your typical swiss cheese omelet to things a little more odd for a New Jersey boy like me such as scrapple. My most recent experience at the Magnolia consisted of the crab meat omelet special and it was absolutely loaded with meat. It was delicious. I know from looking at the Magnolia's menu that they have your regular full diner offerings. At some point in time I am going to have to try one of their post-breakfast offerings. Alex Z is raving about their Manhattan Clam Chowder in his review, so I guess I will have to give that a shot. I guess the gist of this review is that if you happen to be driving near Magnolia and need to stop and get something to eat, do not hesitate to check this place out. You'll learn what the locals already know that people who live in the middle of this little suburb of Dover, DE do know how to cook. read more

Our lunch experience was nice. I had the fajita wrap which didn't really have a lot of flavor. My wife had the burger club, and she felt the same way. Cute restaurant, beloved of locals. But they are a victim of their food service (Sis, something.) The steak was so pre-treated with papain solution (meat tenderizer derived from papayas) that it arrived with "some au jus" but ended up treading water (and sinking) in a bath of clear, tasteless fluid. This is the result of damage to the meat by taking subpar meat cuts and tenderizing them to the point that the cells break down and exude liquid. It also means the steak doesn't grill, it boils in its own juices. The steak probably comes in frozen slabs from the food service and this is what it does. The baked sweet potato was delicious. Salad was ordinary. The dessert look good but come from that Sis-place. The "lemon meringue" their most popular dessert was really a triumph of food service meddling and cheapening to the point of disaster. The crust was not crust: it was a pile of inedible sawdust. The lemon filling was modified food starch and lemon flavoring and sticky and gooey. The meringue was not a baked meringue with peaks--it was a gelatine and pasteurized egg white puff on top with coloring to look like browned meringue. Not even close. Skip the lemon meringue. The broiled flounder was beautiful. Some food is good here. The fault goes to their food service, who tries to cheapen their ingredients and recipes to the point of absurdity. read more

This is a cute little restaurant in the heart of the cute little town of Magnolia, Delaware. In rural southern Delaware, restaurants (that are still open) can be notoriously difficult to come by, so the fact that this place is open and serves food already puts it up into a highly desireable category, in my book. However, the food here is actually pretty good. And, to my astonishment, this restaurant served the BEST MANHATTAN CLAM CHOWDER I have ever eaten in my life. And I consider myself somewhat a connoisseur of Manhattan clam chowder--this was just perfect, with big, fresh clams, and quite spicey. The rest of the food was pretty good too, although not in the same category as the clam chowder. The prices are unbeatable--cup of soup plus a sandwich with two fried soft-shelled crabs, for under $8? Pretty hard to believe. And pretty yummy. The service was very good too. The only things I could recommend them to improve upon were the cole slaw and fries. The cole slaw was fresh, but it was sweet and creamy whereas I prefer mine light (but I guess that's just a matter of taste), and the fries were a bit greasy. And the parking lot can be a bit tight to navigate in when it is full. But those are comparatively minor complaints. I'd certainly come back here. read more

Since I live so close to this diner I was super excited to have a local restaurant to eat when we don't want to travel far but have someone cook for us :) The atmosphere is quaint and small which gives you a personal feel when you walk in. The food (breakfast lunch and dinner) is below the quality I would have expected it to be. Wait staff appear friendly but slightly slow on the drink refills. The prices of the meals are a little high in price compared to the lackluster plating and food that comes out which was a big shocker to me. One would expect to see a small town diner to have cheap meals but extremely good food -- in this case it's opposite. I don't mind going for breakfast as their food is tasty. Dinner and Lunch are sub-par. As others have stated, there seems to be a following of seniors to the place. read more

As locals that eat breakfast here on average 3-4 times a month, needless to say its a favorite of ours. The food at breakfast is nothing extraordinary, but the atmosphere and down home friendliness of the staff is second to none. For a good home cooked breakfast, served by really nice and very attentive waitstaff, all at a very reasonable price, you simply can't beat the Magnolia Restaurant. We've only had lunch there once and it was fine, but again - nothing special. We've never had dinner there, but they've been advertising a 12 oz. prime rib special for year at $13.99. One note - the top of this review says it isn't wheelchair accessible. That's wrong. There is a ramp for wheel chairs at the State St. entrance. read more
