We visited this restaurant for the first time. When walking downstairs to get into the restaurant, you get the smell of being in a basement. We sat at the bar. The pistachio lamb chops were exquisite, I highly recommend them. We asked the server if we could have a specific pasta with a dish and she said it was fine no problem. Then the dish came out incorrect, she seemed quite annoyed that we weren't willing to just eat it the way it was. When we got our entrée, it was an incredible Bolognese. The food is definitely a five star. The bar is sticky due to the humidity in the basement and they need to refinish it, but in the meanwhile, your skin literally was sticking to the bar. If they fix the finish on the bar, ripped up the rug and put some kind of major humidification system in the place would be a 10 out of 10. read more

Really enjoyed every aspect of my meal here - the soup was delicious, the chicken Parmesan was cooked perfectly, the pasta was very fresh, and the chocolate cake was amazing. The marinara sauce wasn't my favorite - a bit acidic, and there was a lot of it - but the other aspects of the meal balanced it out well. If you want to feel like you're in the North End of Boston or Federal Hill in Providence without the drive, this is the place to go. I have been here twice in the last two weeks for my birthday celebrations. I went a few weeks ago and I enjoyed my meal and the ambiance, so I returned again last night. Our waitress, Tricia was wonderful both nights!!! The first time I ordered the Veal Piccata with Bucatini and to start we ordered the Arancini's which were both excellent. My mom ordered the lamb chops which were also beyond excellent. The Pork tenderloin and Eggplant Parm were great as well. This last visit I ordered the Filet medium rare, perfectly cooked with the mashed potatoes. We ordered the Chefs board to start as well which was also excellent. Also ordered was the ribeye special and the Cod Al Forno, and the Eggplant/Chicken Parm. I will return!!! Friendly staff and owner . Food was great. The signature lamb chop appetizer is worth the wait. All the different types of pasta ordered at our table of 3 were great. On a 1/2 full night the chef owner came out to talk to us. Bartender said goodbye as we left even though we did not sit at the bar. Wow. Wow. Wow. AMAZING! First time going here and I have to say I am shocked that a place like this is in Milford. The atmosphere so quaint and cozy. Small place but you are not on top of each other. Did have to wait a little for our food to come out but the wait was 100% worth the wait. We started with the grilled Caesar and the lamb lollipops. Both were amazing and something I would order as a a main. The Caesar had a flavor like no other due to it being grilled. The lamb was cooked and seasoned perfectly! Our mains were the chicken parm and the chicken piccata. Both chicken dishes were cooked perfectly and so flavorful. Each main comes with either a soup or a salad. We also had the mushroom soup and the haddock chowder. Both were good but the haddock chowder was more flavorful. Ended the night with the lava cake and again amazing. Overall there was nothing bad. The staff was amazing even with the long wait our waitress Brianna checked in on us regularly and made sure that we had everything we needed. Classic tomato sauce with the rigatoni. Pappardelle w/ meat sauce. Rib eye w/ carmelized onions and bone marrow butter. Risotto. Rich butternut squash. Good salads and clean refreshing potato soup broth w/ green onions. Beautiful tender calamari w/ peppers, sweet and spicy. Escargot angel hair subtle flavors. Chocolate on chocolate dessert. Going to start with how amazing their Grilled Octopus is. Please try it, even for someone new, this is what it should taste like. I have had this dish many times over the years since I came back to the US and it did not taste as wonderful. On top of trying their octopus special, I also had their eggplant parmigiana (possibly a little on the salty side so extra cheese is not recommended), and martinis tonight. i did completely forgot to grab a photograph of both. Do not arrive without reservations! We arrived, a party of four. After waiting about 4-minutes, the host approached us in an agitated manner and asked if he could help us. I said yes, we would like to have dinner. "Do you have reservations?!" No. "I am sorry. we have nothing available " He was quite agitated. He said this loud enough for patrons within sight to hear and turn to look at us. We left feeling quite embarrassed and unwelcome. I take some responsibility for having not made reservation "on a Friday night" but do not believe we should have been treated rudely. We went there tonight for my husband's birthday, and I can honestly say I have not had a better experience in recent memory. From our server Jess who was busy all night but not too busy to answer our questions about the chef and his history, all while delivering excellent service. The food was so delicious, from the shrimp scampi appetizer to our delicious entrees. When they say everything is handcrafted and homemade they mean it. Even the Italian dressing on my salad had a taste that could only come from scratch and not a bottle. My husband had a wonderful Espresso gelato type dessert and Jess made sure there was a birthday candle-nice touch! My daughter and I enjoyed an amazing Espresso martini as our dessert. Suffice it to say that while other favorite places of ours occasionally have fallen short, 89 Restaurant will be our go to from now on. Can't wait to go back - well done! read more

Every pasta dish is incredible, and we look forward to the calamari appetizer every time. I love how the desserts change regularly, and the wine menu is not overwhelming. The atmosphere is great as well. Hidden away in the basement, the wooden beams and lighting create a cozy atmosphere. The staff and patrons are always happy and enjoying themselves. It was a special occasion and Trattoria 89 Centrale was our destination. We heard that the cook who worked for them bought the restaurant. The last time we were there the new owner was the cook and a deliverer of vittles the likes I never consumed. The friggin' vegetables. I never had a vegetable medley delightfully prepared to such a heavenly standard. It was semi crunchy and didn't compromise the meal. To a more contemporary event. With reservations and some friends we went there and had to wait to be seated. I was jones'n for those string bean popping veggies, Boston leaf lettuce drizzled imported oils from the east. In the words of my forefathers and four mothers "YUMMY!" What was supposed to go down, wouldn't. During all this a crazed woman was scurrying about without a clue. That was the last time. We decided to take a chance to go to restaurant 89 for our 4th wedding anniversary dinner celebration and so glad we did because our experience was perfect from start to finish! I called for reservations several hour prior and they were able to fit us in no problem. The restaurant is below street level and was very cozy and inviting with its stone walls and granite pillars. Our waitress Lauren was absolutely delightful, upbeat, and fun while answering all questions and guiding us to the best food choices. We started off with a stellar drinks, a smoked old fashioned for hubs and a peach martini for me. Then fresh baked bread and olive oil, with roasted garlic (yum). The Arancini Florentine (creamy inside and crispy outside). For the entrees we got the steak frites with smoked bone marrow butter and the filet 89, a perfectly cooked, peppercorn crusted filet stuffed with onion and Gorgonzola cheese and wrapped in bacon. The roasted pepper bisque was probably the best thing I have ever eaten in my life, and I usually don't like roasted red peppers. We had to get back to our 2 year old so we took desserts to go and those were great too! This place is quite the gem and we will be back. Visited trattoria 89 for the first time in about 2 years and was not wowed by the food quality which was a big disappointment (for their price point). The service was excellent but the meal did not match as it once was a favorite destination. We had the Chicken parm, piccata and Carbonara. The two chicken meals were good but nothing special. The carbonara was on the dry side and sadly left behind. Will give them another shot at some point but not for a while. read more

Moved to Milford a few months ago and was advised to check out Trattoria 89 by one of my patients - glad I did! It's set in the lower level of one of the buildings downtown so very cozy atmosphere. Service from Tricia was A+! Started with the apple and gorgonzola salad that was delicious. My dining companions both got soup or salad with their entrees as well. Entrees were really good! Steak frites, bolognese, and the chicken parm. All of us had leftovers to take home. Desserts sounded great but we were full! We needed a new restaurant so we went to yelp and found this place . We thought t was closed but it was actually downstairs ! I called and the host actually went outside and got us. We walked down the stairs and it was quite an impression. It has 8 foot pink granite columns from the Milford quarry a century ago. We had calamari and it was fried and delicious. I had chicken parm it was perfect a lot of parm and not a little of linguini but I love a lot of pasta. My husband got shrimp scampi and the big shrimps were not over cooked !
