The service was super friendly and they spoke great English. Our server was super helpful and sweet. Good food comes out and freshly prepared within about 10-15 minutes of ordering. To share with the table, we ordered the Gebackener Camembert. This consisted of fresh deep-fried breaded Camembert cheese accompanied by fresh parsley, jellied cranberries, pumpnickel bread, and butter. This was delicious as the outside was breaded just right and the inside was luscious with soft, gooey cheese. The jellied cranberries and pumpernickel bread accompanied the pungent cheese very well. This only came with one slice of bread, but our server brought out additional bread (not pumpernickel, but even better!). For my plate, I ordered Ochsenbrust which consisted of brisket of beef, with beetroot, and boiled potatoes. This was a hearty meal with a decent amount of tender brisket covered in a creamy horseradish sauce. However the boiled potatoes might have been my favorite part of this meal. I have never had boiled potatoes cooked that well with that amount of flavor. I really enjoyed this meal as it was unique and like nothing I'd had before. Overall, I enjoyed my first authentic German meal here! The ambiance was perfect as it was both inviting and casual. Service was very pleasant and helpful. The food was great, it was just a lot. They do not skimp on portions here! I liked both the starter and entree I ordered as everything was seasoned well with great, unique flavors. We got across the river to the Latäng District with no traffic at all - this must be what it's like when people are happy to use public transport options. The restaurant is covered in wallpaper of old photographs from the founding proprietress, Paula Kleinmann. Oma means "Grandma". The original photos are back with her family when the business was sold in 2023 to the Wolf and Küther-Jankovic families, who still operate it. Grandma Kleinmann passed away in 2009 at the age of 95, but her recipes live on here. The menu is simple - it's all schnitzel. We ordered a regular veal schnitzel with mushroom sauce and a Viennese pork schnitzel with "curry ketchup" so that we could better understand the difference. As far as we can tell, the meat for the Viennese pork schnitzel is sliced thinner and the batter doesn't fall off when you cut it. The meat for the regular schnitzel is thicker as its its batter, so pieces tend to crumble off when you cut it. Both were excellent, so it's just a matter of preference. Our son preferred the regular schnitzel and I preferred the Viennese one. I'm only sad that we had to leave leftovers on the table, but we really couldn't eat another bite. We like that they made non-alcoholic drinks. Our son had the blackcurrent spritzer and I had the rhubarb one. We also ordered a dessert of strawberry ice cream which was embedded with frozen strawberries. The cheese schnitzels were exactly as you could imagine, crispy crunchy on the outside with a golden crusty and ooey gooey stretchy cheese on the inside, paired with either sauce it was fantastic. Jaegar sauce was packed with mushrooms in a brown gravy and the Balkan were fresh chopped onions, a flavorful red sauce and a white sauce with fresh herbs. Amazing amazing.
