Jetro is like the Costco version of restaurant. Here, restaurant owners can buy loads of food supplies to prepare food for customers. It's a huge warehouse and you probably can find mostly essentials. The membership is free to get, but leave them to restaurant owners since they and their employees have to be cooking up hours and hours, which will end up food products being used by a lot. They may want your information about your business to prove that you're a restaurant owner. Maybe this place is not just for them but for also other non-restaurant businesses that mostly need those type of supplies. If you don't feel that Costco or other similar places don't give you enough to maintain your business, then this is a good place to go to since quantity or even quality amount is much higher here. read more

This Covid 19 environment is quite unprecedented. I empathize with the Yelp staff laid off and the businesses struggling. One of the side effects of the restaurant downturn hits up and down the supply chain. One of the type of businesses are wholesalers like Restaurant Depot who supply restaurants with bulk food and supplies. Access to Restaurant Depot is usually a membership from a restaurant or catering business with proof of a business license. Due to the economic downturn, they opened up to the general public for a limited time, so we took a day to go grocery shopping at Restaurant Depot (aka Jetros) on High Street! Upon arrival, it seemed many others got the memo and we waited for 45 minutes before we got in. Social distancing was in full effect! Upon entry, we got our day pass and started shopping! To the right is the freezer area with produce, frozen foods, meat and seafood. To fully enjoy this area, one must seriously have a few layers of clothes on! So don't forget to dress like it's winter! After taking my goat carcass photo (see photo), we entered the warm warehouse and shopped for things like sour cream and pancake mix that based on our estimation of the bulk sizes, we will never have to buy again - unless we open a restaurant. Which we are not. We were shopping only for our family of 5! For regular folk like us only getting access for a limited time, it's overwhelming to see the bulk steaks, bulk halal, bulk French fries, bulk onion rings, bulk...you get the idea. But it is a foodie's paradise to see the products a business would buy to serve their customers. We recommend Yelpers to check it out before they close to the public once again. It will happen. So take it as an experience that will keep your refrigerator full while also giving appreciation to all the restaurants and food businesses currently trying to survive. I surely hope Jetro's will still be in business a year from now. I'm giving them 3 stars, with 1 Star off each for cleanliness in the parking lot and inside. This depot is very unorganized and it stays unorganized with the same setting for weeks. None of the meat is never on the shelves it's always on the floor wrapped up in the pallet. All the items that are on the shelves the sale price never match the item. They are always out of stock on many thing every week all the time. read more

During the COVID pandemic, Restaurant Depot is allowing the public to come in and shop on a Day Pass, which you need to get when you come through the entrance if you don't already have a membership card. All you need to do is show the front attendant your ID to give you a day pass. The selection here is fairly wide and of course comes in a large bulk typically being that these items are generally sold for businesses, but they do sell some items by the unit. If it's your first time going here, be sure to bring a jacket and maybe long pants because the refrigerator/freezer section to the right can be brutally cold if you're not used to that kind of temperature. In comparison to Costco, I'm not sure if I can compare the quality, but the pricing on some things like some of the meats, pasta, condiments, etc. is priced pretty similarly. However, a lot of the meat portions here are of course in larger amounts. For some items like the spare ribs, if you purchase an least 35lbs or more, the rate per pound drops. The noodles in bulk for pho, ramen, and other egg noodles were so huge. If I had to feed a family of like 10, I think I'd be set shopping here. If you have a larger event that requires cooking or supplying refreshments for a good amount of people, this is definitely a place to check out. Otherwise, I might suggest sticking to Costco. I came here on a Friday evening, and luckily there weren't too many people. The first time I went here, it was pretty packed, so I'm glad I didn't have to deal with the mess of the parking lot and people trying to get by each other. The workers on their lifts are always zooming and honking at you to get by on the aisles, so it can get overwhelming. Also, they have alcohol here, but as I've heard, unless you have an alcohol license, you may not purchase. read more

Restaurant Depot/Jetro has always been a membership only wholesale for restaurant business owners. But due to Covid19, they have opened up their doors to the general public. So for me, since I didn't have a membership, I had to give them my driver's license to copy and the front desk handed me a temporary one time membership when I walked through the front door. How can I describe walking around this warehouse? The first word to come to mind is OVERWHELMING. This place is huge. Navigating the aisles with the countless amount of goods and products was too much for a regular shopper like myself. I totally get it for businesses, because it's a one stop shop for mass portions of everything possible. Long story short I just ended up buying a 3lb Columbus Sopressata. Card errors all of the time once getting through a ridiculously long line that they often don't care to try and fix, leaving you empty handed! Today I and my friend went to restaurant depot and looked for the purée. Normally the manager will help us but he wasn't here today. We were struggle with asking people here since they had no ideas about it. No blaming on anyone here because they tried to look for us but no luck. However, my friend asked one of worker who seemed walking to the walking fridge. He told us to wait outside, but the wait was long so we thought he won't be back. We decided to go check out, and guess what??! He carried the purée and looked for us. We were so lucky to find the stuffs we need, and thanks to the "Gorelle" helped us. Basically this spot is a Costco for restaurant people. Safeway is for personal size things, Costco is the next step by buying bulk for the family but this place is like stocking up for months or technically for the week for Restaurant owners. I have been coming here for YEARS and I love it. I'm all about looking for the sales and seeing what's new. My family and I come about once or twice a week, every week. We end up with two carts sky high and weighing approximately 1k-1,500 pounds total. You think I am joking but I usually load 15-20 (50lb) potatoes. So....yeah. Trust me it's not easy owning restaurants but it's the life you end up leading because price is everything. You want to find the places with the best deals because the prices vary week by week for produce and meats and ect. Any ways, there are certain peak times not to come because the lines can be slow and LONG. Also since the carts are long and go up, they take up so much room so don't be surprised on a busy day and trying to find the shortest line, you won't. Find one and stay put. Also customer service can vary. Some of them are super nice and others are just plain rude and bitchy. I know the hours are long and early but show customers some respect. I've called and they literally hung up 4x in a row. It wasn't even closing time yet. Also although they have loaders, you usually have to hunt them down to help you. This place is an immensely convenient wholesale outlet intended for people in the food industry (such as caterers, restaurateurs and retail store owners) who hold a valid resale permit and can't/don't want to pay the high prices of having products delivered by Sysco, USFoods, Chef Warehouse and the likes. As such, it is obviously not open to the general public. It's not a club and there is no membership. If you don't have a valid California resale license you can't buy there as resellers don't get charged sales tax on any resold product. The end consumer pays the sales tax which the reseller subsequently reports and pays to the Board of Equalization. Costco on the other hand is retailer, not a wholesaler, and therefore open to the public. The products sold at Jetro Restaurant Depot are mostly mainstream brands, identical to the ones you can buy at retail stores, only in larger quantities or larger unit sizes. They also offer less expensive/generic brands for some products. This is a place where people in the food industry shop for products they know and need. The customer service is excellent if you know what you're looking for. If you don't, and require hand-holding to shop for your business you'll need to go elsewhere or get online with a wholesale delivery company that can hook you up with a sales representative. And the "latinos hanging around at the exit" (as another reviewer casually remarked) happen to be the cashier supervisors who support and monitor the cashier's and make sure no customer just walks out with a cart full of unpaid product - same as they have at Best Buy, Office Depot, Costco etc. I'm merely a regular business customer of Jetro Restaurant Depot and have no affiliation with the business otherwise. read more

Probably the worst shopping experience I've ever had. Many small businesses are dependent on this place for supplies, personally I dread having to do my weekly trip here. Their registers are seriously outdated and almost every customer requires a manager to come remedy a problem. They never have enough registers open and it is common to wait in a line that is literally hundreds of feet long going down the entire length of the warehouse. Because they are unwilling to update their systems and hire enough staff, the customers must suffer to shop here. I am looking into using Costco Business Center as much as possible in the future to avoid this place at all costs. read more

This is a great place to do your shopping if you own a restaurant or food service establishment. They carry a wide range of canned items, deli meats, cheeses, pork/chicken/beef/lamb/seafood (frozen only at this location). I pick up everything I need here for the cafe as long as its stocked. They do have stocking issues with their produce on Mondays. I wake up extra early in the morning on Monday's to get the freshest produce for my sandwiches, but sometimes I can't get sprouts or spinach. What gives? I'd think you'd have fresh veggies stocked for restaurateurs on Monday morning! Sunday lines are extremely long so I suggest mid-day visits for shopping or early morning. read more

Used to like it. Last time I went I found the line stretched through more than the entire length of the store (1 hour +). Also had my vehicle window broken by a thief that stole a worthless old bag; this cost me over $1,000 to repair even with junkyard glass. The security guard gave me the license plate number of the criminals that they saw commit the crime, but the guards did not intervene. RD/Jetro refused to take any responsibility. Ain't no problems with this RD location. As is their trademark, there's a lot of food for very low prices. Bring a friend who's used to shopping at Costco here and watch them weep for how much more serious the Depot is. This is industrial bulk shopping at its finest, so be prepared for the smallest packagings of items you want to be #10 cans of beans, 50lb bags of flour, and 10lb+ packages of meat. YEAH! Let's roll. You DO need a business or non-profit license to be able to shop here, and that's a hard rule -- so make friends with your industry friends or borrow their card! Also, they're not the nicest, but compared to the Boston Restaurant Depot locations, the staff in Oakland are extremely friendly and competent. That said, it's not Nordstrom so get the hell out of the way when a forklift is following you and don't expect any customer service outside of maybe gesturing in the general direction of an item. read more

Okay, I don't understand why some people would even bother to yelp this place if they weren't even allowed to go in. For real like, would you bad review a local bar if you weren't allowed in for being underage? Or a cannabis club if you weren't a legitimate patient? I doubt it. Anyway, restaurant depot is okay. They seem to stock items based on demand, so a lot of times some of the niche items that I like to sell get cut from their inventory, which makes a lot of business sense, but this has happened to me so many times that I'd really appreciate some consistency with their inventory. The overall quality of their products I would say are sub-par when compared to Safeway, but it only makes sense since this store is meant for restaurants, so stocking lower quality goods is a good way of keeping costs low for its commercial customers. I come here a lot and there really aren't many B&M alternatives to Restaurant Depot around the area, so where else can us restaurant owners really go? I bought 3 boxes of spicy chicken like 6 weeks ago. Chicken was so extremely salty And we can't eat it. I put lemon and vinegar bit it still not edible. It was like salted fish. I think we bought recall chicken. I misplaced the receipt and threw boxes away because of storage spaces. I called and spoke with one woman with nasty, rude and mean attitude. This is the new Jetro from Jack London, opened a couple of months ago, it's a great place to get stuff for parties and all. Wholesale license is needed of course otherwise you will be stopped at front door. I like their seafood, fresh clams and oysters and I like their fruits and veggies.....I don't particularly like the fact that they will not sell cigarettes unless you have a tobacco license. I can buy at Costco for same price so I don't see where the problem lies...........They have tons of dry and frozen, plus it is new so what else can be better.......... read more
