I heard about this place from my brother. Well it was my turn to go there and eat lunch. My brother, husband, and brother in law went 1st. They said was so good I missed out. Well I got to go and eat lunch. They open at 11:00am and there was a line maybe about 8 deep. But inside have tables where maybe can sit about 25. So go early. I ordered the lunchbox where the lunchbox consist of grill salmon and tempura. The lunchbox have 2 choices you can choose from. It was very good. Tempura was fried just right the batter was light and the grill salmon grill to perfection. It was busy and they only have 1 waitress she did a good job by taking everybody order in the whole restaurant all by herself. I would go again for lunch it's good. I been to Domo many years ago, and the last impression of the food was not good. I ordered the Oyako donburi and remembered it tasting not authentic and disappointing. Today I went again to dine in and tried their three choice combination. You can choose 2 choices for 20.95 or get 3 choices for 24.95; I decided to pig out and get 3 choices since it's only $4 more! I ordered butterfish, sashimi, and tempura. I was surprised that I could select these choices with no additional fee. Usually at other restaurants they charge you more, so I was happy that it didn't cost an arm and a leg to get this. The food came out all on one bento and I got 5 all ahi sashimi, one decent size butterfish, and 3 shrimp tempura plus 3 vegetable tempura! Everything was good, and I was really satisfied afterwards. The server/owner(?) was nice and the only server working but did a great job since the restaurant was packed at 6! She cleaned the tables quickly and served and seated the customers promptly. I give this 4 stars only because there was a little too much tempura batter for my liking and the presentation of the food could be neater. Anyway, I would definitely come back to order this three choice combination again! There were so many options to choose from that anyone would be satisfied with. This is a pretty good spot for Japanese food on the windward side. Not sure how the sushi is but the sashimi was pretty decent! read more

Came here on a weekday for lunch. Not crowded for indoor dining but many people coming in for their takeout orders. It's a cute mom and pop restaurant in a modest setting. They have nice lunch options -- the two choice set is about $22. I got the soba and the tempura for about $15. The soba was very fresh and the tempura was very light and fluffy (sign of a good local Japanese place!). My friend got the saba. It was not overly oily but still very moist. It's definitely better than the Japanese fare you can get at Windward Mall next door and has that small town kind of feeling. read more

It started off bad when I tried to call in my takeout order and the phine number comnected to some sort if machine asking for a code ??? Could not successfully get connectes to a human being to place my order by phone. Wanted to try this place for the first time. Walked in and went straight to the counter. The woman behind the counter was tallying up some checks for the dine in customers. As I approached the counter, she did not look up from what she was doing to greet me or even say anything. I stood there and watched her for a good awkward 5 minutes or more. I was starting to wonder if I was invisible and seriously contemplated walking out. Then, when she was ready to acknowledge my existence, she looked at me and said, "Yeah." Oh my goodness, I thought that was beyond rude. But I held my tongue and ordered anyway. Every time I come here I always get chicken Katsu x beef teriyaki. The waitress is always super friendly. The quality of the food is always excellent! My other favorite is the spider roll. I like the atmosphere and how quiet it is. Would recommend if you're in the Kaneohe area. read more

The shrimp tempura was one of the best I've tasted! The soba noodles were cooked to perfection and the sauces were delicious! On top of that, the service was great! Although she was the only one working, we got wonderful service with a smile. I just think some of these other Japanese restaurants are waaay overrated! It's a family-owned restaurant - friendly staff and service. The lunch combo specials are a must! Teishoku style plating - 2 entrée choices, rice, salad, tsukemono, and miso soup are all included for only $13.95! Oishi desu yo, as in "onolicious". This restaurant never fails to disappoint. You can tell the oil is fresh when you taste the chicken Katsu, tempura or any other fried items. Their steak, in my opinion, is one of the best choices! It comes out sizzling on a stone-like plate. Everyone stared when I got it hehe. For a small restaurant, they seem to use high quality ingredients and have a large variety of different dishes. As for the staff, they are very attentive. My glass has never been empty; they always refill your cup. During the day, there is only one waitress. They have two waitresses during dinner on the weekends. For a small staff, they do the work of probably 3 or 4 waitresses. You are never just sitting at the table. They bring out the tsukemonos miso soup and salad to keep your mouth busy while you wait for your food. I personally love their salad dressing. It's homemade apparently! Overall, I would come here again and again. They never fail to disappoint. And it seems to show how popular it's getting since they have people waiting outside to get seated. Oh! Domo is my favorite restaurant to go to whenever I am craving some Japanese food. Our family are regulars here since my Aunty & Uncle frequent it on a weekly basis, so of course we like to tag-a-long whenever we are in the area, or just want to take a drive from Kunia all the way to Kaneohe to satisfy my tastebuds. You can't go wrong with the many options when it comes to creating a Teishoku plate to your liking. I'm a creature of habit that gets a 3-choice teishoku with tonkatsu, shrimp tempura & sashimi. The tonkatsu and shrimp tempura are always cooked to perfection & the quality/amount of sashimi is a steal of a deal considering the price you pay for a satisfying meal. It is a small restaurant, so be aware that it can get crowded real quick. Also, the service here is good and patrons should be mindful that there is ONE person cooking all the food, who also happens to be the owner. I know it's easier to complain about a long wait but people need to be mindful that they are cooking meals for customers both in the restaurant & those doing take out orders, which it always seems like they have a lot of big phone orders. If you're worried about a potential long wait, bring in a bottle of wine or a 6-pack of beers since they are BYOB and chilllllllll out & relax. read more

Growing up in Kaneohe, everyone knows, there isn't much variety. You got the mall, some restaurants outside, oh my favorite... Zippy's. You get the idea. After a friend raved about this place, I just had to give it a shot. Went around 7:30, and it was completely EMPTY. I believe it has a lot to do with its location. It's located directly across from Zippy's, in a very small, and I mean very small, shopping center, right next to wholesale unlimited. Just a warning: It's located right next to a nail place, and the nail salon leaves their door open, so sometimes Domo can have that really gross nail odor. Now the food. I ordered the tonkatsu. They gave A LOT, or at least in my opinion. It also came with miso soup, served beforehand. The tonkatsu was breaded very nicely, and the meat was very tender. The only thing that I didn't like was the sauce. It was just different so to say. It was a lot darker than your normal dark red katsu sauce, this one looked almost black. It was very tangy. I just wanted to add some sugar, but that would of probably been pretty disgusting. They also have sushi on their menu, but not a lot of variety. But I definately want to try the chirashi, looks so good. Second round is needed! read more

Went here by accident......looking for Kikuya. Remember seeing a review on cheap eats about a good Japanese food restaurant in Kaneohe. This place is clean and the food is tasty and fresh. You have to wait a while for your food (my 5 year old was bouncing off the walls waiting) as a result of everything being made to order. I had the tonkatsu/sashimi, the misses had the udon/Unagi, and the oldest child had butterfish/sashimi. While the portions look small, it fills you up. For some unknown reason, the tonkatsu tasted awesome the next day (usually leftover tonkatsu taste like cardboard). Definitely will come back here again. Need to support small, quality mom and pop establishments like this! read more

Domo, which is a Japanese restaurant is open for lunch from 11am-2pm M-F and dinner 5-9pm 7 days a week. There place maybe very small but with big flavorful food and nice service. They serve Bento lunches for under $16 ( more for dinner) which includes, salad, rice & a nice Tofu miso soup, oodles of Udon noodles bowls from $9-$15 crispy 6 piece Tempura ($16.95), tasty Donburi bowls under $22, good Sushi as well as ala carte menus like our favorite soft shell crab. They are not cheap & don't expect your own waitress but the food are good portions and worth it. You order your food with the nice Japanese lady at the cashier, find a comfortable spot, and they'll bring you tour food. They don't serve alcohol, but like most small restaurants in Kaneohe, you can BYOB. Clean & homey, and plenty of free parking in their lot. Really good Japanese restaurant in Kaneohe. I was a little skeptical but I've eaten here a few times and have enjoyed the food. The teishoku's are reliability good - my husband gets the saba teishoku which gives you three big pieces of saba, a salad, rice, and miso soup. My mother in law got the spicy tuna with nato on top don which is pretty good - lots of fish on top of good rice. I got nigiri - maguro, hamachi, salmon, and tobiko. I was not expecting much but I was really pleasantly surprised by the fresh quality of the fish. The hamachi and salmon were especially buttery and fatty. The maguro and tobiko were just ok. The atmosphere is a bit lacking as the fluorescent lights make you want to kill yourself, but, overall, I think this restaurant is a good value. read more

The food here is great. It's a small mom & pop so sometimes the kitchen can be a bit slow if it's busy. Lately, without dine in patrons, it seems to be quite fast. I once ordered something but when I got there the lady got my noodles wrong (she even told me she didn't get my order even though I had called like 5 ins ago from the Safeway parking lot), no big problem for me but it was funny because she tried to convince me that the wrong noodles "taste better anyway". Thought we would try a new Japanese restaurant in Kaneohe, so went here. It wasn't very crowded, only one other couple at 6:30pm. A Korean women came out and tried to explain something on the menu. It was very hard to understand her. We ordered miso soup and rice and udon for the children, which they ate. One daughter said shes had better (guess who?). Hubby and I ordered the spicy tuna roll and salmon sashimi. The sashimi was about two inches thick (I'm exaggerating) with some remnants of skin. The sushi was typical. I was going to rate a two but rated a three because maybe we just ordered wrong. It looks like the box sets are better but it's back to our favorite, Kenko-Ya next time. read more

Found ourselves in Kaneohe looking for a t-shirt - shorts - and slippers casual, and no-raucous-Seattle fans quiet place for dinner. This small restaurant is tucked away in a little shopping plaza on the Kahuhipa Street side of Windward Mall. Clean and tidy. Our food took a little long to get to us. Understandable as the cook-owner mans the kitchen by himself. There were just 2 other couples besides the 3 of us. But a phone order was filled while we were there so he can get quite busy quite fast. Had the 3-choice combo dinner for $20.95. Broiled salmon, assorted tempura, and sashimi. The fair sized piece of salmon was overcooked and under-seasoned. Also, the wife's teriyaki steak was well-done; not the medium-rare she ordered. Maybe both were left on the grill a bit too long while the cook was attending to the more demanding tempura. Tempura good with a flavorful batter. Assortment included 3 shrimp, 2 green beans, and a slice each of eggplant and kabocha. Tentsuyu too light for my taste. In Japan (Shinagawa), my wife and I experienced a hoidy-toidy tempura restaurant that didn't even serve a sauce with its tempura. The tempura was meant to be enjoyed with nothing more than a dash of sea salt if anything at all. Maybe that was the intent of Domo, but the batter wasn't THAT tasty. Nor was there any sea salt at hand. Sashimi was ahi and fresh, but sinewy. Properly cut across the lines of sinew, the 6 bite-sized pieces were no problem at all.
