Everything was so good, my partner and I had the dynamite and poke. The service was amazing, the owner was so kind and told us what the best options were. Highly recommend if you're in the area. Idk why this place has 3 stars. It's definitely 5 star worthy!

I will always come back to this spot just to say hi to the owner. Very sweet lady and the sushi is so great. Very generous portions and very fresh. Favorite spot in all of island.

I've been going here since I was in HS but it's so far from where I live now so I love when I get the chance to eat here. I always get the dynamite maki which is also their most popular item. It is basically a tempura roll with spicy ahi loaded on top. The portion is huge, I can never finish it and it only costs about $14 which is a steal. It's not the best sushi you will ever eat but it is delicious and the quality is always consistent. It always hits the spot. They also have a location in Manoa so definitely check it out if you're in either of these areas!

The lady on the phone (made a phone order for pick up) decided to "upgrade" my order because a couple of my rolls were "on sale". Ended up with a $30 bag of rubbish. Rice has no taste, filling tasted old and nori was like rubber.

The rolls are huge and I read all the complaints on how they're not rolled tight but that doesn't matter at all because they're stuffed with tons of toppings. I'm a big fan of the spicy uncle Jason roll and my wife got the dynamite roll so I was happy to see they're still on the menu. The staff is so nice and kid friendly. They brought out some bowls when they saw my son picking at my plate. I like that there isn't a shortage of parking in the shopping center and it seems like a family owned business so that's another reason I prefer to support them over another sushi chain. My youngest sons don't eat sushi so they fixed them up some tasty soba ramen with all three fixings. I'll definitely bring my family back when I'm on this side of Kailua.

The hype is real and so are the Aunty's that make the ono sushi, they're so down to earth and friendly! Miso soup is on the house, and dynamite spicy ahi maki is our new fav obsession. Had the dynamite ahi, crunchy donburi, calamari rings, and a few other dishes, and everything was delicious and super fresh. The ahi had the perfect amount of spice, the donburi was satisfyingly crunchy, and the calamari was light and crispy. The staff were incredibly kind and attentive, which made the whole experience even better. Definitely a place I'd be happy to return to! read more

I went here sometime last month and I want to go back! The sushi was good so I'm not sure why the three stars. It was pretty busy when I went in so I think they have a lot of regulars. Aunty who took my order was really nice too. It took a while to get my order but considering that they are making to order and there was a few people before me it wasn't bad at all! walked in on a rainy day, had no expectations, & left wanting to go back! split 3 rolls amongst 3 ppl & it was perfect. we tried uncle jason's, brandon's maki & the spicy salmon nigiri- sooo good!! also the aunty offered us miso soup on the house. piping hot & the perfect cozy addition to our meal. would highly recommend for taste & service! read more

I used to go to Waipuna's sporadically for years, but it was a hit or miss depending on who was working. However, when I decided to pay them a visit again, the first thing I noticed was how clean and well-kept it was. It looked like a totally new shop! That's when I asked if it was under a new management, because although the changes weren't drastic, it was 100% noticeable...IN A GOOD WAY. Even more impressive is how delicious their sushi is. While I liked it in the past, I LOVE it now! The fish is always fresh and the hand-rolled sushi is way larger than before. I now go there once or twice a week and the food is consistently great. The service is equally phenomenal! Everyone I spoke to, talked about how much more we enjoy it now. **On a side note, I recently found out that it is now under a new ownership which accounts for the amazing changes. If you didn't have a good experience a while back, I encourage you to give Waipuna's a try again. I honestly feel you won't be disappointed. As someone who eats sushi all the time, I highly recommend Waipuna's. read more

A small family-run eat-in/take-out sushi-ya, nothing fancy but truly outstanding quality and personal, really friendly service. We had the poke chirashi, regular chirashi and special spider roll with salmon skin. All were excellent, and the fish fresh and flavourful. Very reasonable prices. Honestly, although much less fancy, we enjoyed our meal at Waipuna much more than dining at Kizuna. Highly recommend. read more

I wanted to like them so much. They are really nice people but For the$17 I paid, I excepted a lot more than what I got. First the amount felt very small. They were out of Ponzu dressing so I ordered the garlic seasoning which was very bland, almost no other seasoning just garlic which didn't even taste like fresh garlic. Maybe they have better seasonings/sauces but for me it was not worth the drive. read more

I visited today to check out what they had, and I believe there's a new owner. The food has noticeably improved--portions are generous, and you can tell there's more care put into each dish. Their rolls were amazing! They also rearranged the tables, making the interior feel much more spacious. I'll definitely be back to try more of their rolls and food items. read more

I will always support and rate Waipuna's a 5 star. When we're too lazy to cook and in the mood for some sushi, Waipuna's is our go to. I promise, in comparison to these recent reviews, the rolls are pretty good quality. We place our order to gobefore we head down and it's ready within the next 10 - 15 minutes. Aunties are all nice and have never given us attitude. If you want something different, 10/10 recommend their waipuna crunchy dynamite - just hits the spot! It's a deep fried roll with spicy ahi on top. Maybe $12 total and you get plenty! read more

This was our first time ordering from here. We had wanted to dine in at Round Table Pizza on Black Friday, but they were already closed. In fact a lot of places were closed. But with only ten minutes to closing the really sweet lady working the register still allowed us to order whatever we wanted off their menu! Within twenty minutes, they had us all ready to go. We ordered a loooot of food. Lol! Two fried calamari, several rolls, sashimi, and more... It came out to about $20/head. And that's because my kids Can Eat. I just wanted to make sure I told everyone how amazing the service here was, and how yummy our food was. The calamari is my favorite on island now. We will totally be back! This sushi restaurant had some of the best food I've ever had, the sushi tasted fresh and good quality. The proportions were huge and filling, and the prices are amazing for the size of the sushi and the quality of it. The ambiance was super homey and you felt comfortable and happy in the restaurant itself, and it felt like super welcoming. The owner was super sweet and accommodating, she felt like my actually grandma with being so sweet and nice. Overall this was one of the best sushi restaurants I've been to in my life and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who comes to Hawaii who wants to enjoy some amazing food. read more
